The best way to quickly travel in minecraft is with another portal hub however it can be difficult to set one up correctly but no worries because in this video i’m going to cover all the info you need to link portals and build an amazing nether transportation hub in Minecraft and we’re starting right now also only a very small percentage of people who watch my videos are actually subscribed so if you like what you see feel free to press the subscribe button and turn notifications on so you never miss an upload in the future before Going into how to make the nether hub itself i’m going to show you how to link portals and why you would need to link portals and the first thing is the way that nether travel actually works is that when you travel one block in the nether it’s the equivalent of traveling Eight blocks in the overworld and the reason why is that the nether is actually eight times smaller than the overworld so let’s say we built a portal here that is at zero zero and then we built a portal ten blocks away once we’re in the nether and we go into that So that’s at ten z or x in the nether and then we go out it would be at 80 x or z in here because again we’d be traveling eight times farther distance in the overworld and basically using that math we can know exactly where to Put a portal so let’s say that we put our portal right here at maybe one one just because it’s easy to do and we’ll have that be one of the pieces of obsidian on the bottom being one of the numbers there that’s kind of how you Know where your portal is so it can either be one one or one two it doesn’t really matter so we’ll build a portal here just like this and basically because we know that one block in the nether is eight blocks in the overworld ideally this portal should be at about These coordinates in the nether and then we’ll take a look at that because of course one divided by eight is about zero or one so ideally this portal should be around one one or zero zero in the nether as well and it is and basically if we dig over this way just Maybe a little ways so we get about eight blocks away from the portal and i can show you exactly how this works so this portal ended up going at negative 1 0 which is just about what i expected if we go this way the x coordinate is Going to go up so this is at negative 1. let’s make this go to 10 over here so it’ll go all the way up to 10 here that’s that tens right here so we’ll build a portal right here again just about 10 blocks away in the nether and You would think it’d only be 10 blocks away in the overworld except for the fact that every distance we go in the nether it is eight times that in the overworld so using that math this portal should be at about 80 on the x and then 8 on the z because the y coordinate doesn’t actually matter at all because the height isn’t calculated at all it has nothing to do with where the portal will go so you can have your nether portals anywhere in the nether and anywhere in the overworld in terms of y Level and that does not affect where they appear in the other dimension so let’s try that out this should be it again about 88 and it isn’t why is that well that’s because we need to link the portal so basically how this works is that if there is a portal in the Overworld that’s already generated that is somewhat near where your destination port will be and by somewhat near i mean that could be up to 300 blocks away kind of near then you’ll just appear at the portal that’s already been generated however the game does want to spawn you Into the correct area and so basically let’s say we were going to go over to that 80 coordinate 8 which is where we wanted to go which is just about over here then all we have to do is build a portal over here and the game will be Like oh this is actually closer to where it should go than the other portal is and it’ll link it to that so that’s basically how linking works and we’ll build a portal here and we can test that out and basically what should happen here is we should have the portal appear Where the other one is so basically this will link up to the other portal we made instead of both portals in the nether linking up to the one portal in the overworld so we’re going to try that right now and we’ll go in here and it did indeed link to the correct portal And so now basically this portal is linked up to that portal at 88 and this portal is linked up at the portal of zero zero and now we have a very small yet functioning fast travel system and i’ll show that off right now so we want To get from here to here but that portal’s a little bit far away so all we have to do is go through this portal then we’ll walk this very very short distance in the nether just over here and we’re out on the other side of that river there very far away compared to How long we traveled in the nether and so more or less that’s how portal linking works so let’s say that we wanted to have a portal all the way over here and let’s say it was linking to the wrong portal in the nether or the end All you have to do is say what are the coordinates of this in the nether and multiply that by eight that’s where that portal should be if it’s in the correct location in the overworld or let’s say we have a portal in the overworld and we Want to see where it should go in the nether let’s say the portal in the overworld was at 800 comma 800 for x and z because again y doesn’t matter then we should assume that the portal we’ll be building in the nether for it to connect correctly should be at about 100 100 Because 800 would go to 100 from the overworld to the nether and that’s basically how you link portals also a really good thing you can do with this is let’s say you go into the nether and you want to go to a really far away location if you use a seed finder like Let’s say chunk base you could see oh maybe there’s a mushroom island 8 000 blocks away all you have to do is get those coordinates of where that exact thing would be in the overworld and then just divide them by eight go to those coordinates in the nether so for Instance let’s say there’s a mushroom islands eight thousand blocks away so eight thousand comma eight thousand then if we go in the nether and go to one thousand comma one thousand because of course that’s eight thousand divided by eight and we go into there then our portal should appear in the overworld at Eight thousand comma eight thousand and so we can fast travel that way as well and now that you know how to link portals and why they sometimes link incorrectly now i’m going to show you how to build another hub now in making another travel hop ideally you want it To be in the warped forest biome but you can’t actually choose of course which biome it’s in unless you’re looking at your seed beforehand here but you can see this is in the warped forest biome now the reason why you’d want that is because oftentimes if you have your Nether hub in let’s say a crimson forest what’ll happen you’ll have the hostile piglen and hogland mobs spawn in your nether tunnels and also block you from going on the tracks correctly whereas in a warped forest biome all that can generate there is endermen and because they’re so tall it’s incredibly easy to Have them not spawn in your tunnels and of course there are ways to work around mob spawning in tunnels it just can be nice to have the warped forest as it’s one less thing to worry about now there’s another thing that you’re going to want to decide and that is do you Want your portal network to be in the normal part of the nether or do you want it to be on the nether roof now the reason why you might want it on the nether roof is that while it’s flat there’s nothing that’ll spawn there unless you place down blocks that can Spawn mobs on them as bedrock cannot spawn mobs and because of that it’s extremely easy to set up nether tunnels maybe something like this where you have these simple portal setups and also portals now link super easily between the nether roof and the overworld whereas in earlier versions of the game You’d have to kind of mess around with it now you can directly link portals from the bedrock to the overworld just when creating a new portal in the overworld you’ll have to make the respective portal at the correct coordinates in the nether so again whatever the coordinates are in the Overworld divided by eight because the portals will spawn in the normal part of the nether if you’re making the portal from the overworld but let’s say you’re making a portal on the roof of the bedrock here and you go into it it’ll automatically have that portal appear at Normal coordinates in the overworld as again the y level of your portal basically doesn’t matter at all in terms of where you appear in the overworld now of course breaking bedrock to get up onto the nether roof is a bit difficult and a lot of people prefer to have their Portals in the nether so for most of this i’m going to show other techniques of portals that are in the nether but if you prefer having yours on the roof of the nether it can be a really cool way of making a portal network now traveling One block in the nether makes you travel one block in the overworld once you go through a portal and the best way to exploit that is with blue ice tunnels or highways and the reason why is that if you’re on a boat on blue ice or even Normal or packed ice you go incredibly quickly it’s hard to show at long distances but your speed can literally get up to 73 blocks traveled every single second in the nether which means you’d be traveling 582 blocks per second in the overworld which is of course insanely fast meaning let’s say you had A base that was 20 000 blocks from spawn which is of course a very considerable distance you could get there in under 20 seconds with a blue ice tunnel if it’s already set up and so because of that i have some different portal designs here made with blue ice but before we get Into that what is the speed difference between blue ice and normal ice and packed ice because there are the three varieties here well what’s interesting is that blue ice is the different speed but with packed ice and normalized the speed is actually the exact same so what Is the speed of normal and packed dice well for a normal impact dice you go about 40 blocks a second of course just traveled in another you could do that in the overworld but when you’re traveling 40 blocks a second in the nether you’re actually traveling 320 blocks in the Overworld every single second which is again quite fast but we can level this up with this we travel about 73 blocks a second on the blue ice and about 582 blocks a second on the blue ice if we count in the fact that it’s in the Nether but laying out the blue ice like this is actually quite wasteful because we do not need this much ice to make ourselves an effective ice highway what you can do is you can make yourself a very simple network of blue ice tunnels just like this so this pattern is Basically one piece of blue ice forward two and over one one piece forward two over one kind of like this just over one over over like that just every other just like that going forward one block and the reason why this works is the boat hit box can actually rest on those It can’t go in the cracks so as long as you have walls on the side just here then you can very easily travel along here with no issue that actually saves you a massive amount of blue ice because let’s say this tunnel was filled in like this that’s literally four times as much Ice also if we were not in the warped forest if we were in let’s say the nether waste or the crimson forest which is a lot of the nether you will have these guys spawn on your track and that’s why you want to spawn proof them because of course if you’re traveling You’ll kind of run into them and it’ll slow down your speed basically making these a lot less efficient so what you can do is you can place down a lot of torches all of these guys do spawn at a very high light level what’s actually often a very good idea Is to use buttons or to use slabs and so you can do is if you put buttons on top of every single one of these blue ice then nothing can spawn on those if you put slab here in the cracks then you don’t even need any light at all to make Sure that no mobs spawn on here so let’s say you’re in the crimson forest you could have piglens zombified piglens and hoglands all spawn put this down here you’re safe from all three spawning on your tracks ruining your speed and possibly endangering you so i’ve integrated this need to spawn proof the Tunnels into these two designs i’ve made right here this one’s a little bit thinner if you want something that’s quicker to make and this one over here is a little bit thicker if you want something more decorative and less claustrophobic long term it’s really easy to make what you do is you start Here where your portal would be you kind of go down one block like this with these stairs then you go one block further down like this the reason for that is that when you’re traveling on here just like that you’ll then run into the stopper here your boat stop there You can get off then choose to go in the portal and you’re done whereas let’s say the portal was right here you just slide right through the portal or you’d slide to the portal and when you get out your boat can go through the portal which is Quite annoying but here we have this nice little stopper now to actually make this it’s quite simple all you have to do is start by placing down some blue ice like this every other block in the middle then get yourself some of these slabs and put them around here on the bottom In this kind of three block across area just like this as long as your tunnel is just like that and once we’ve done that we’ll get these warped blocks right here and put them in the corners this can also just be normal netherrack or it can Be more of the warped wood and of course you can do this entire design just with the crimson variants then we’re going to get these warped stairs and put them on the entire side of these all the way along here just like that on either side this will give Us a rounded appearance then for this design every five blocks we place this warped stem just like that so what i’ll do is i’ll kind of count it out with two a break and then two so we have it like this this goes up five blocks if you Count there so it’s one two three four five just like that we can see if there’s one here as well there’s not but let’s say there was one here we’d put that there as well because again it’s five blocks in between each one of these then we’ll get these and We’ll put them up here that’s two blocks above the bottom stairs there just like that two blocks right up here all the way across here and something i should have mentioned and i’ll mention right now before i finish this is the tunnel that you are digging out to actually Make this the entire tunnel it is five blocks across so we have one two three four five by six blocks tall so one two three four five six tall that’s how you make this design then we get ourselves the trapdoors once we have this down here on the other side And also once we have these here and then for the next step that’s it the trapdoors we put them up here we put them down here we flap them up just like this or flap them down like that actually then we get ourselves some more warped Blocks and put them up here we could even put some of these slabs here if you wanted something like that whatever you prefer and we’ll also put down the trapdoors on this side as well very simply what i like about these is let’s say we’re not in the middle of a Netherrack hill kind of in the nether here let’s say that we were in the middle of a open area we could actually tell that we could tell what biome we’re in and it just gives us this awesome window to see what we’re passing by especially if you’re on a very long Portal track it can be nice to see what’s outside and what you’re passing then we’ll finish up with these work things up here as well then we’ll have the entire top of here i’ll be the slabs you notice this is not actually a block taller because it’ll Minimize the amount of blocks we have to mine out we’ll place all of these here just in here just like that and we’ll kind of make them cover all the way up here all the way along this distance here and then what we finish up with is we Have one of these lanterns or the shroom lights whatever you want at the middle block here at the top so basically in between these two work stems in the middle there we have the shroom light right above so you can kind of space it out like that if you want you finish by Placing buttons on top of the blue ice like that so you have no worries about anything spawning in the entire surface of this tunnel but let’s say you don’t like this design well then i’ll show you the design that’s right over here which is a little bit smaller and a little bit Less resource intensive now to make this one we see it’s too wide so we start with is putting the blue ice in the pattern i discussed earlier so it’s like this go over like that all the way along here just like that we may as well put The buttons on top of there first as well just to prevent spawning in you don’t have to do that but if you don’t you’re going to want to have more of these shroom lights up here to make sure this is all incredibly incredibly bright once we’ve done that just on the bottom Here we’re going to place in a couple of these slabs of the crimson wood or actually the warped wood here although of course we could repeat this with crimson wood you could even make this with non-nether woods but the reason why you’d want to use nether woods that they Cannot burn so if you have a crimson or a warped wood tunnel and let’s say it’s hit by a gas at very least the thing wouldn’t burn down right now the next step is to put these on the side these slabs on the side just Like that so we kind of have this almost flat looking thing with these slabs on the side there that’s to put everything else on top of and to make sure we don’t have this crack in our tunnel then with the stripped warped stem we put that Every five blocks like we did on the other one but just three tall on this one so you’d go every five then we’d place these in as well so put that down there we’ll put that down here but again only three tall now we’ll have the warp Stairs we will place those down on top of the slabs just like this on both parts there once we’ve done that then one block above those we’ll put some stairs again kind of facing upwards like this this is also to give this a rounded look as these tunnels looking around i Think is a really cool effect you can place those down just like that along here and once you’ve done that you can place down these slabs across here like this you could also put down the warped word block like we did earlier or you could put down these slabs but in this Design i have the slabs put them across here all right and then we’ll put down the trapdoors just one trapdoor like this unlike the two of the other design this also makes it less important of how you place them up or down like this it doesn’t really matter at all because we Don’t have two of them and we’ll just put them like this there we go we’ll put that on the other side as well and this design of course also does grant you that nice visibility of what’s outside of where you’re traveling especially since if you’re in your boat let’s say The boat would be down here like this you really have this clear eyesight view right here to what’s outside and to finish up we’ll place down these slabs on the roof like this just to make it all enclosed all the way along here and of course for the very final touch we’ll Place down two shroom lights in the middle like this just so it’s symmetrical and that is in the middle right here like every other one was we’ll place it in the middle here like this too so again from these two stripped logs it would be right in the Middle here like this but at the very top there that gives a good amount of lighting almost gives it a bit of a subway look and overall it’s a pretty cool design and on this one as well we kind of have this bumper here where you’d slide into it you can crawl up Into your portal and of course making a bend with this would be basically the same just going the other direction but if you don’t want pretty tunnels like this you certainly don’t have to have them you can have one very simply like this they do work just as well let’s say If you’re on a single player world you don’t really care how it looks that could be a good option now over here we have another design which is the open design this is basically for a very compact city or a place with a lot of players or a lot of Locations in a very small distance what you do with this is you kind of have a semi-open plan so you mine out all these different layers here see if this very open area they put in your portals like this you can maybe put a sign of where They go and of course like that maybe even a banner with a design on it that shows you know maybe it looks like a creeper so that’s your creeper farm something like that and the reason why this is fully open is it wouldn’t really make sense to have Tunnels in between these if you have a lot of portals in a small area that’s perfect for smps if you have let’s say a city area where everyone is and you could have everyone have their own portals all in this open area but that may not always work especially if you do Have a small area as sometimes you’re not in a very closed end area like that sometimes you’re in an open area and so you can have a very fully open area plan like i have set out here so you can see here what we have is we still have these Blue ice tunnels like this we have these blocks on the sides we do not go right off the edge and we have our portals laid out here now of course this is a very small example of how this would work but you can do this at a larger Scale to make yourself a large network of tunnels that are not too intensive do not spawn mobs and can be placed anywhere you want in an open area you can even copy this design and just have it get rid of these when you’re going under a kind of mountain or something Like that but overall a nice design like this could work well too just make sure the slab here if you’re using it would be in the correct position so here’s our blue ice here the slab would be up here the reason why is if the slab is here it Can’t spawn mobs let’s say the slab is here like up here just like this you basically would not be able to slide off still but it would spawn mobs unless you put some lighting down also although they always spawn in about the size with the corners you don’t always have to Have your nether portals be this size you can actually make them incredibly large you can make portals up to 20 blocks wide in fact i think even a little bit wider than that something massive like this both in the nether and in the end both in the nether and in the Overworld you can also link portals of this size if you want just be aware that the resulting portal on the other side that’s automatically generated by the game will be small so you’ll have to get rid of it place down a big portal and then you’re done and again overall let’s Say if you’re on an smp and you have a map of it you could just go to the coordinates of each place plan out where to do that by taking those coordinates dividing them by eight and planning out your own nether hub system i hope you enjoyed that guide of how to make Another hub in minecraft and connect portals effectively if you did make sure to press the like button subscribe comment sure
