How to Make a Minecraft Texture Pack (Ep 4) || Custom Skies Handshading

Hello everyone it is juliet here today with episode 4 of the pack tutorial series today i will be teaching you how to make a hand shaded sky i said i was going to work on gi containers but a lot of people have been requesting skies and

So i feel like i should be making what people are requesting like a little bit so yeah i’ll do that today i have a few tutorials linked in the description of how to make a sky with like a image i won’t be making one of those today as i don’t really

Like them because in the past and i did it i was just very very bad at finding images that were high enough quality and what i wanted and so now um hand shading skies is just like it’s opened a whole new world for me that like just makes me so happy so

Yeah i just recommend it as i feel like it’s like a less time waster and you can get something that’s very specific to what you actually want in your pack okay so the things you’ll be needing for this tutorial are paint.net minecraft and cube the sphere now those are all a

Bunch of really random things that i have put together but you can just use paint on that instead of using and paint on it i just prefer in some aspects and then paint on that i prefer in some aspects cube the sphere is a program where it will basically take an

Image and then make six different images the front back left right top and bottom and those are basically like when you put in game all those together will look like a circle there are ways to avoid using cubisphere though i don’t really know how to but i

Think cube the sphere only works on windows computers so i apologize to mag users if you have a friend that can make you a sky just just tell them please pick me a sky so yeah let’s get into this tutorial i will first be opening up

My love okay so first i will be opening up my file for testing pack and the palette because i always do this when i’m making whatever pack i’m making there we go our palette okay so then you will be opening a new file with the size three eight four zero by

Two one six zero this is 4k now you can make it a lot less than this because this might lag up your computer um but i like doing it at a very like high um pixel rate just because when you have to condense it to like just 1080p later in the process it

Just makes it look a lot cleaner but i bet if you work with 2k um that’ll be better or like even if you work with 1080p you can still do it so right now i’ll be making a day sky um next i’ll be making a night sky and then i’ll be

Making a sunset sky some packs only use a day and a night sky guy but usually there is somewhat somewhere a sunset sky so i’ll be teaching them all also you’re probably asking julia where do i even put these guys when i’m done i have left a mediafire with my sky mcpatcher folder

Now i have stolen my empty patcher folder from acuna who is very cool and before that i stole it from luci so i apologize but i honestly don’t really know how that pack file works the sky folder is the mcpatcher folder which is not in this pack right now so what i’m

Going to do is i’m going to go over this pack called love letters and i’m going to copy and paste this mcpatcher folder put it onto my desktop and then go into this pack go into assets going to minecraft and then put it right here next to block

State font lang models this one whatever etc and now you have it and then within this empty patcher folder that i have given you i’ve also given you a color stop property which if you’re like what is that julia well if you go into edit with notepad which i did not

Include before i’m sorry you can basically you have all these little files and all the way down here you can change the xp bar color so that’s pretty fun i’ll probably go into that later but you can change like right here you can just put in a color code

And that will change the numbers of um the number color of your xp bar and then um within your mc patch folder there’s sky files world zero and then here are all your properties now don’t delete any of these they do fun things cloud one is your

Main sky like your main sky i mean your day sky cloud 2 is your sunset sky and then starfield 03 is your night sky skybox i don’t really see it ever so i just want to do anything to it but yeah there’s that i’m just going to leave

That in description and then i’m also in the description i’m going to leave this file that i have gotten that is a 1080p sky document i’ll probably leave it on the thing i’ll be using it later but yeah that’s in there too if you want to download that i would recommend okay now

Let’s get back into me making the sky so for the day sky i’m going to be wanting a blue sometimes i just take from like the colors i’m already using but for this particular sky since like a default edit i’ll just be finding a new color so

Um if you just look outside the sky is kind of a gradient so i’m just going to get two colors just two nice little blue shades and then do a little gradient from one to the other the slight slant i don’t know i’m feeling like with a slight slant today

Wow that looks fun now you can leave it at this step if you want but i’m going to be adding clouds to my sky so um i already have a bunch of random cloud pngs so you can just look up cloud png go into images and wow it’s a nice

Little cloud and then you can just get that now i already have a bunch so i’ll be using those but if it’s not actually transparent then you can just be upset i’m sorry so i have all these little clouds and i have a moon and that and that so

I will just start off with let’s say this cloud this cloud looks cool i’m going to ctrl c copy it make a new layer on my sky thing and then paste it on and you can see it’s like huge so what i’m gonna do is i’m gonna go

Over to where it has the flip tool at the moment i’m gonna right click and then i’m going to press on the scale tool and then make it a lot smaller because now you might be like oh because the thing is if you make the cloud too big

It’ll literally just be the cloud and you probably want like there to be more dimension in your skies so i’d recommend making things pretty tiny but you can just go like whatever you’re going for because you can make it kind of big but i just vary in sizes for

This guy i’m going to try and make my clouds look kind of small and then i’m going to come paste again make this oh get on the size tool make it smaller you can also just copy and paste this thing but i’d like to make them like different sizes move it around

A bit and then just place these wherever you want and you can make them different shapes and stuff but i’ll still probably just be going into that like a little bit later and then when i feel like i’ve added enough of one shape of cloud i’m

Going to make a new layer and then get a different shape from the options that i have i think this one’s different that is not different and then i’m just going to do the same thing i did with the other one make this smaller and move it around I’m just going to continue making any layer i’m going to control see this one the skies um this particular cloud is very special it’s built different but i will just use it anyway i accidentally just made a text layer i think Okay so now that i think i am pretty done i’m going to go to my erase tool i’m going to make my size pretty big because it’s not at the moment i don’t know why it’s shaped like that but okay and then i’m gonna put my force down a lot

Let me get through okay as my aspect ratio is like confusing but um and then i’m just gonna go next to the little clouds and i’m gonna erase a bit i’m gonna turn my force up a little bit but i want you to not be able to see

This like a line that these clouds especially have so just like lightly erasing the edges and since i put the force down a lot um you’re it’s going to be kind of like just going to be like lightly doing that you can just do it around and then i’m

Going to go to another one of the clouds and if you forget which clouds are which then you can just unsee these layers and then do it to these clouds now these ones don’t have as hard of edges as the other ones do but i just think that um

Doing this lightly kind of gives off a nice little effect so Now we have them all together again and this guy may seem kind of empty but i don’t know maybe it will be all right you can also find like a sun png or something and add that to your sky or a rainbow i’m actually considering adding a rainbow so let me go

Find a rainbow i found two rainbows online i found this one and this one that does not have half the pillars so i think i prefer this one i’m just going to copy and paste it and then in a new layer i’m going to paste it it’s already

Kind of tiny which is good and then i’m just going to put it oh if i can move it so in order to move this um this rainbow it seems i need to make a little dot somewhere on my screen because it’s not like it doesn’t want to like select that

So i’m just going to put my rainbow right here i think that would be a cute little spot for rainbow and then since i made this little dot i’m just going to get rid of it so don’t make your dot if you’re doing the same thing i did um right next to

The rainbow you’d like it to be far enough that when you exit out you aren’t like erasing the rainbow so now i’m just going to move my little rainbow underneath all of my cloud layers so that it looks a little more natural and then put back my background layer that

It kept wanting selective so after you’ve done that you want to save this to your desktop with ctrl shift e and you’re going to name it something random put it on your desktop um i want to name it skytutor real wow and then you’re going to change the

Png to jpg as cube the sphere does not accept pngs it’s also probably a big file so png is going to be a kind of a lot for it so now you’re on your desktop and you are opening cube the sphere so this is cuba sphere um and hopefully

I’ll leave the uh download link for it in the description but it kind of looks a little sus but i promise you it’s fine so then you press options you do uh 10 24. you can make it bigger than that but it might lack up your computer and you

Can do it of course smaller but it might just not look clean and then you’re gonna press open on and click your sky tutorial wow and that will open up your file and then you’re gonna do opt you’re gonna do file and then extract all and that’ll extract

All of the different pieces of the sky for you Okay now when all six of your little pieces which these are the six of them have completed you’re just going to x out cube sphere you don’t need it anymore so now that you’re done with that you’re going to open up paint.net sorry if you hear the garbage people so

This is when we are now using the little files that i have left for you in the description so we’re just going to open them up so um these have been taken from one of those guys tutorials but just edited these are the files you’ll have you’ll

Have the original ones just star field you’ll have sky template which is both sized down and has the names of where the things go and then i have a 512 thing for you which is really helpful and then the transitional overlay which was given by the person

That did the tutorial that i watched for these so i’m going to open sky template 512 and transitional overlay and then on your desktop you’re going to find the top the bottom oh my gosh the bottom and the front and these all usually have lines in them so you see these little lines

Um and then these are going to go over here and then you just move we’re just going to ignore the other ones for now but we’re going to put these and drag them in onto this file the transitional overlay and add layer and so basically just go in order of how

They are named so the bottom one goes to the bottom layers we’re just going to move these and make sure they’re sized exactly into the corner you do not want any lines in your sky i mean you might not find them annoying but i find them really

Irritating when i see lines of misguided so just make sure it’s like right in the corner and save it and then take your front piece and then move it down now don’t size it to this corner because there’s this little line that this person left an accident

Um so do it at the top because that one doesn’t have a line and then just size this to it make sure you get it there oh i just did something random okay and now you have all this nice so i’m just gonna merge all three of these layers together

And then make a new layer and then copy and paste this thing that i gave you the 512 thing which is 512 by the length of this one here copy and paste it and then you can do it to whichever side you want but i always just do it to the

Side because it’s easier and then as you select that you want to copy and paste this side make a new layer make a new layer again and then control x on this bottom layer where you have this side because your yeah now we’re just going to get rid of that 512 layer

And then on one of the two layers that are the same you’re going to want to go to layers and flip horizontally and that should be the same on both sides and you want to merge those two and then put them under this layer so you want your the one with half of

The sky on top and then the one with the skies that are mirrored to each other on the bottom then you want to get your eraser tool and make sure the hardness is all the way down and then it’s at like 500 or something

You can make it lower but you want to be pretty big size when you’re racing so you’re gonna zoom up and just kind of slowly erase this line away what mirroring that did was you’re able to erase this line without having like nothing be there so you will

Probably see a bit of mirroring i don’t really like how much this is mirroring i don’t know how why i deleted so much there but it’s all right it looks a little bit funky but i think my hardness is still acting up so i apologize for painting it not being

Good program but yeah oh that’s really bad okay well it’s fine so now i’m just gonna merge those together and then go to my background and press s like three times to get to this selecty tool where you can like select a color and then i’m going to copy and paste the

White square put it on the top because it’s just helpful to have it there i’m going to select that white square then while i’m selecting that white square i’m going to go to the layer below it which actually has the real sky on it copy paste it make a new layer on my

Background and then put this on the one that says top i hope you can read all of these this is my really bad pixelated handwriting then you’re going to perfectly fit it into the corner with your arrow keys this is the easiest way to do this and nice you have that one

And then you’re going to copy paste your white layer with the little white square due to the top and then i like to go to layers and then flip vertically and then select this one and then select on your one with your actual blue sky layer copy and paste it

And then copy and paste this one to the bottom the one that says bottom hopefully everything’s spelled correctly here i did this for myself not thinking i would ever show it to anyone so yeah not perfect um nice and then we’re gonna get the final one

Which how i do this really easily is i get my two white square layers put them together and then i have this clear box in the middle that i can just copy and paste the last final one that says front into very cool i’m gonna do that all the way around this corner

And i’m just gonna perfectly fit it to the box again and then the easiest bit is just going back to your desktop getting the the left right and back layer and then add them as layers and then put them in the spots they belong in so this one i have right now

Is the back so i’m gonna put that in the top right corner The next one is the right which is in the bottom right corner very cool right goes right And then the next one is the left which we will put in the left this one just happens to have most of the rainbow in it And there you have a fun little sky it’s now because paint.net is difficult you’re just going to merge all these layers together then do control shift s for saving this is different from you usually do control shift e but if you do control shift e this will happen

You don’t want that so you’re gonna do command z if you accidentally do that then you’re gonna do ctrl shift s and save it to your desktop because that’s just easier we’re gonna name this okay i usually just spell things wrong um so now while you’re on your desktop

You’re gonna find the sky you just did which i named blue sky tutorials spelled in correctly because i just don’t care that much and then go to testing pack assets minecraft empty patcher sky zero world or world zero and then we’re gonna actually rename this since it didn’t even matter i’m

Gonna rename it to cloud one and then replace the file that’s in here this file and file destination and now we’re just gonna jump into minecraft okay so now that we’re in game we’re just gonna go through our resource packs and put it the testing back into the folder press done

Get testing pack get out the pack that we were on which is pretty nice pack i’d say and whoa we’re in here single player or notre dame world and for some reason julia has shaders on and she’s going to take this off so it’s

Back in game and oh i now i’m just gonna go up here out into the world here’s some sky i made earlier i hope you guys like that it’s a fun sky although another release pack then i’m just gonna go to time and lunar i’m going to change it today

Here’s our fun little day sky oh our rainbow’s so cute now i would say this this side seems a little bare but i also don’t really like um having too many clouds just sometimes it gets a lot like to be a lot so i like simple but i really like this little rainbow

They’re cute that’s so cute i’m gonna add more rainbows this guy i also don’t really like how that turned out but brickyoupaint.net for not changing my hardness instantly like that’s kind of rude um i might need to fix that or i just don’t care enough i don’t know i think i’m gonna change

The hot part of this pack too like i don’t know why it’s built like that i think it’s the color for me but still i like it it looks so nice and i think the rainbow really just that that that’s cute i want to add another room

Okay now time to work on the night sky also by the way you can just delete your little cube the sphere cubes um once you’re done with them because i mean you could use them again but uh i’m not going to so i’m just going to

Delete them hello okay so now on to the night sky we’re just going to be using some of the same things i’m just going to open a new 4k resolution layer x out the background because it’s dumb and then make a new color palette so if

You didn’t know usually at night it is darker so you can make it any color you want you can make it a dark purple you can make it a dark blue you can make it a dark green if you feel like it usually i feel like the sky is more like purple

But i think it just depends on your loop so i’m gonna be making this guy like a dark purple um i like that color i’m just gonna get another color i’m gonna also be doing a slight gradient i’m just gonna do it more of a straight gradient i don’t know

It doesn’t really matter where the gradient’s going or you don’t even need to have one i just like to so yeah now i’m going to make a new layer i feel like i want these colors to honestly be a little bit more purple so Okay so now i’m just gonna be adding some fun little clouds to our sky by doing the exact same thing i did with the other one Okay so i put a bunch of clouds in the sky and now i’m just going to be slowly erasing them like i did before I also sometimes just like to go over the clouds especially in the night sky just to make them a little bit less transparent or i mean more transparent just because um it is night after all Hate is a very exciting emotion for the transparency thing too you can also just put the transparency down the layer which works just as good i hate you too johnny i hate you so much i think i’m going to die from it Okay so the next thing i always do is i add like a moon in the sky which i think looks really nice so i have this nice little moon png here be adding um you can find anything you want on the internet there will probably be something

I’m just going to add this between like these two clouds i think i’m just going to add it right here and then i’m going to move uh whichever this cloud layer is this one over top of the moon though it’s still you can’t really see it but that’s okay

Um and then i’m just gonna make a new little layer and i’m going to use white and i’m going to get the paint brush tool and then draw some light coming from the moon i’ll just put it underneath the moon and i can put the opacity down just a little bit

That’ll just make it a little bit more realistic since there should be light coming from the moon another fun optional thing is adding shooting stars like this one i have like added so many freaking shooting stars into all of the skies that i’ve been doing recently

But they are just cute so um there’s nothing stopping me from adding wonderful shooting stars see those are buddies from the shooting star i’m also going to add some light and from it that looks a little funky There that looks pretty nice um and you might be like juliet but where are all the stars we will get to that soon so now i think i’m basically done with my sky and i’m just going to do ctrl shift e to export it to my desktop

And i’ll be naming it your mom xd dot png and now we have your mom xd on our desktop and we’re gonna once again open up cubesphere options um 1000 24 open get your mom xd and then extract all you have all six your mom xd files so we’re just gonna x amount

And now that we have all those oh wait what what whoa look at what i can do with my freaking background guys i didn’t even realize i could do this look it’s following my mouse that is so cool can i write something whoa guys we have all the files and now we’re just

Gonna do the same thing with paint.net now we already have these ones opened and we’re gonna have to open we keep this file and then we can just access out the sky part on this and just not see that one and then i’m just gonna open another one of these files we can’t

Really reuse that one sadly so we’re just gonna open up our sky template nice also i feel like i haven’t been saying enough stuff but the select tool in paint.net is actually s i am not this is not a full paint.net tutorial i don’t really know how to use

Paint.net so just just keeping putting that out there throwing that out there um first we’re going to start with um just getting our back our right and our left and just putting them in there because that’s this is like the easiest thing just putting these ones in so the back goes oh

Tobacco’s the back also if that ever happens just press command z easiest way to go back since it is be back man And then i’m gonna move the right to the right or i mean the bottom right one it says right on it and then the left to the left now the fun bit adding the front bottom and top to this thin little one taking the bottom and putting it to the bottom And then taking the front end moving it to the front and just making sure that this fits like right here also by the way i missed this and hopefully editing juliet fixes this but to move um you’re just gonna press m m is the move key you know s select

If you just keep pressing s it’ll take you into all the different selections this is like a drawing select this one is a box select drawing select circle select and then our select deselect so welcome i’m just going to merge these all into the same layer

Create a new layer copy and paste the half this one onto this layer ctrl c that side ctrl v ctrl v ctrl x control delete this layer and there you go we have all of our things and now this layer we’re going to go to layers flip horizontally merge it down put this

One underneath the one that only has half a layer and then get our erase tool that still probably isn’t working and then erase the halves even though this doesn’t really look like that bad honestly i just touch up like there like there yep nice okay where’s this down and then

I’m gonna go to this little white box layer and then select it and then copy and paste the top move it to the top move it into the corner to make sure that it is in the top and i’m going to select the middle box control c

Move this to the front i feel like i’m going really fast and i apologize the skies are just very time consuming and also very repetitive and i i also don’t i just click buttons you know okay and then the final select this final selection selecting the bottom white square box

Going to the top pressing ctrl c pressing ctrl v and then moving this all the way into the corner to make sure there are no lines and there we go we have some form of a night sky but no no no we are not done yet

I’m going to make a new layer and then get white or purpley white or whatever you want i’m going to get to the pencil tool which should be already one pixel should be yes and then i’m going to create some stars so um stars look kind of cool if you just

Make them like one pixel and if you want to make them bigger you just make them like four so i just start randomly adding some stars in the sky so we’re gonna do Okay so here we are i’ve added a bunch of little dots and hopefully this looks okay so i’m just going to merge all the layers again and then do control shift s save this to my desktop as anything since we’re literally about to change it um

And now on my desktop we’re going to take the random thing of name and then go to assets minecraft empty patcher sky folder zero wait world zero and then we’re gonna put this as the star field which is the night sky so we’re gonna name this to star field 03

And then replace file now let’s go hop in again all right here we are there’s our little day sky and then i’m gonna go to time oh lord up time and then change it tonight oh we have our little twins that’s what i’m going to call those those are cute and

We have our fun little little moon in the sky and our stars which look really nice i like the stars i might actually want more of them i feel like the sky is like i don’t know it just feels fun like it just it feels like things are like floating around me

I guess that’s kind of what i like about it i like all stars i might have messed up a few of them but i don’t know i just feel like it makes things just feel kind of like floating what is that line doing there okay but yeah there’s there’s a little

Little night sky it’s cute it’s cute okay it’s not time to work on the sunset sky okay now it is sunset sky time so we’re gonna open a new 4k layer control x make a new thing and then we’re gonna start on our sky so um if

You just look up sunset skies usually sunset skies are a gradient of some kind depending on what time it is so this sky also might not really show up in minecraft sunset sky at least the particular mcpatcher folder that i’m working with doesn’t really show up

Fully i don’t know what that noise is i really hope you can’t hear that i my greatest apologies but i’m just gonna do like a nice little purple for one of them i’m gonna make it a little bit more saturated i guess and then make the other one

Um like a pink that sounds like a nice gradient to me why not and then we’re just gonna make a long gradient and that seems very close up to me so i’m just gonna make like extend them both out a bit so that it makes kind of

Like a little magenta though i hate magenta but that is like the worst freaking color but it’s fine it’s fine we’re fine i’m fine so a sunset sky you know is just the cross between a day and a night sky which you know fun fun i’m just going to speed this process

Up because honestly just the steps are make the grade make the file make the gradient put the clouds in and then add whatever you want which in the sunset sky i guess there could be kind of a moon or sun but i’m probably just gonna add clouds so yeah Okay so i think i finished the sky and i just put the clouds up here and down here because if they do happen to show up then i don’t really have scott like clouds up there and like a lot down there in my night sky so

Yeah i’m just going to say this ctrl shift e and save it as your mom x sad ecstasy and then i’m just going to delete all these cube sphere things and then open the cubes here again options 10 24 open your mom xc and then extract all and then we’re

Going to wait here for a bit Hate is a very exciting emotion haven’t you noticed very exciting i hate you too johnny i hate you so much now that we have these we’re just gonna go back into paint.net i’m gonna x out this layer because we don’t need them oh i just text that

Select thing i’m gonna delete that layer we’re just gonna open up another sky template and then i’m gonna add the back the right and the left i’m gonna add those as layers these look all like gradients that are fun so i’m gonna add the back to the back right to right left left

Reminder that i’m moving this with m selecting these with s next i’m going to go into my fun transition layer i’m going to open the bottom top and front put these all in as layers then take the bottom and press m and move this to the bottom like dark gray square And then the front to the middle square Okay these actually these blocks do not look that well okay i guess there’s like this right here but they look pretty similar so i don’t think we’re gonna have to do a lot i’m just gonna copy and paste this little 512 thing here copy and paste this side make

Another layer copy paste copy paste ctrl x and then get rid of it the layers on this one flip horizontally merge this down with its best friend go underneath and then take your erasing tool and then erase what you see fit and i’m just gonna merge this down

And then select the white top part go to my actual layer that has stuff on it ctrl c and move this to the top making sure that there are no lines Still i’m sorry about my speed i just i don’t know it’s pretty easy but also the other sky tutorials that i’m going to link are pretty useful too and finally we’re just going gonna add some stars i’m gonna make these um i’m gonna make there be like a little

Less stars than the other one because the night sky has a whole bunch of stars and sunset is just turning night so therefore there will be lightly scattered stars appearing Okay nice we’re just gonna merge layers control shift never mind control shift s go to desktop name it something random we’re not gonna talk about how julia almost actually just ruined this whole tutorial um it’s fine okay so i think this is maybe the sky because it’s magenta but um since

The sky is still very random so you just go in between them yeah there it is there’s our little our little sky and it’s very like it’s very cute i like our little sky and see some things show through and it’s nice i like this like magenta it’s

Fun i still think my favorite sky is the daytime sky which is why i was so concerned but i actually almost ruined the pack because um i really liked that and then i almost deleted it so well i did delete it and then um i realized that i still had the file

And painted it so we’re fine fine julie through the day but yeah look at this this is cute so i hope this tutorial helped you a little bit um for how julia makes her weird skies and i hope you guys make some cute skies i hope you guys aren’t
