How To Set Up Ranks | Minehut 101

– Hey guys, I’m Trent. – I’m Michael. – And in this video, we’re going to show you how to set up ranks on your Minehut server. – So this is a pretty advanced tutorial, you might say. – Yes, this is, you’re going to have a lot of prerequisite knowledge you’re going to need for this, like how to install plugins, how to create your server, and then how to configure some stuff as well.

– Yeah, if there’s anything in that list of things that you don’t understand, we’ve got videos for all of that. We also have a whole playlist called Minehut Basics, so definitely check those out before you watch this video. – Yes, absolutely. So, at this point, I already have my Minehut server,

I am at the panel right here on the main page, and the first thing I’m going to point out is if we go onto the server, it’s kind of boring. If I go in, I say hi, the chat’s just SuperLeague, it’s like there’s– – White. – It’s all white,

I don’t have like a rank, I don’t know, am I the owner of this server? Am I a VIP? I don’t know. – Trent wants to stand out. – I want to be special. Okay, so we’re on the panel and now we need to install a few plugins to make these ranks happen.

We’re going to go to the plugins page. – That’s on the left side, about midway through. – Right there, and we’re going to search for plugins. So it doesn’t matter which order you do these in because we’re going to do them all at once. So, we search for essentials,

And there are a couple essential plugins that we need to install. So the first one is the main one. We’re going to click the drop-down. We’re going to pop over to the other side here. – Boop. – And then we’re going to click Install Plugin, and that’s going to allow us

To put that plugin on the server. – Check out that check mark, that’s how you know it’s there. – Check, check, check. And then the other one is, these two plugins go together. We’re going to go with EssentialsChat. – Yeah. – And this one’s going to allow us to actually

Configure the chat, which we will show you guys in a second. – Mm-hmm. – We click on that one, we do the drop-down. We pop to the other side, that side, and then we do Install Plugin. There we go, so now remember, if you watched that other video,

It takes a restart for those plugins to take effect. – Mm-hmm. – So now we still have a couple more to install. One is Vaults. – Pop us back over! – Boop! – There it is. – There it is. – Economy, Permissions, and Chat API.

– Chat APIs and permissions are the important ones here. So this plugin, it just allows different plugins to talk to each other and makes sure things are, you know, in sync. – Pop. – Boop. And then install that one as well. And then the last plugin here. – Pop! – Boop.

A lot of popping! Pop-pop-pop. – I’m having a great time. – It’s crazy today. We’re going to install Luck Perms. That is my permission plugin of choice, it’s a really good one, it’s updated all the time, it’s got a great command system. We’re going to do the drop-down, we’re going to pop over, and we’re going to install this one as well.

And then if you want to find out some links for how to set this stuff up, beyond what we’re showing you in this video, there’s a link right here in the description on the panel. – Hmm. – Which, if I got my big head out of the way,

You would be able to see. You can click that, go to the page, and find out a little bit more information about this plugin. So we’re going to install this one as well. Boop! Pop-pop-pop, okay. – There we go. So that, once again, that was Essentials? – Yep. – EssentialsChat, Vault, and Luck Perms. – Yep, and then now if we click that Installed radio button up here, we can actually see all of them here. And now remember, it takes a restart to put these on.

– Let’s do it! – So we’re going to go over there before our server times out. – So home? – Yep, back to the home page. And then we’re going to click Stop. And we’re, yes, we are, I’m sure. – Yep, and then we’ll see when it stops up above us.

– There we go, it went to offline, that is good news. And now we’re going to start it up and those plugins will be installed. So we’re just going to hit the blue Start button here. And then we’re going to wait, probably about a minute or so until our server comes up,

It’s got to load the plugins, it has to generate the configuration files, so we’re just going to wait for that to happen. – This is my load dance. – Okay, so our server is back online with those plugins installed, so we’re going to go back in game and check out what they’re doing. So, we can go in game, and we type slash P-L, and it shows that these plugins are installed, so we have LuckPerms, BukkitCore,

And Minehut installed all those for us. – Yup. – So, good to go. – We just hit Install, check mark, great. – Yes, exactly. So now the next thing we need to do is create a group or a rank, and what do we want to call it?

Like, a lot of servers do like VIP, they do like owner, mod, mini-mod, stuff like that. What do we want to call it? – Our, our group? – Yeah. – Parents. – Okay, or, okay, yes, we’re parents here. – Yeah. – No, we’re not parents here. – No.

– But we’re going to make a group called parents here. – Got to keep the kids on your server in line. – (laughing) Exactly, exactly, so. So we’re going to go in game and we’re going to do L-P, and then that’s like the slash Luck Perms,

And then we’re going to do create group, and then that group is going to be called parents. Yes. And then that’s it, successfully created group. Perfect. Now what we want to do is, if we like, if we say hi in chat, it’s still just the normal chat that we want to get better.

It’s red because Essentials does that, but it’s not, it’s still not what we want. – Yeah. – So we’re going to go in and we’re going to do, we’re going to add a prefix to the group. – Okay. – So the prefix, it will go before our name in chat.

– So like, pre, like before your name. – Exactly. – Right. – And you can set a suffix as well, that will go after, so you could do like rank, person, and then like, level 100 or something like that. – Uh-huh, like a level or like a class. – Exactly, like yeah.

Mage, or whatever you want to do. So in this case, we’re just going to set a prefix to show how to set up ranks. So, we’re going to do slash L-P, and then group, so we’re going to do the group subcommand, and then there are two groups available, parents,

That one, and then we’re going to do meta, because that’s just like information about the group. – Like meta-data. – Yeah, exactly. And then we’re going to go into set prefix. And then, we have to add a weight. So like, if we add multiple prefixes to a group,

Which one do we want to take priority. – Whoo! (laughs) – That was an Enderman over there somewhere. Scared me! And then we’re just going to give it a weight of one. And then what do we want our prefix to be? – Well, we’re parents, so it should probably be Mom. – Mom? – Yeah. – Okay, but I’m, okay. – Yeah, you’re going to be the mom of the server.

– Okay, so we’re going to set it to Mom. – Yeah. – There we go. So, parents had the prefix Mom, and we’re going to say something again in chat, hi. And okay, that looks a little bit weird, right? Do you, would you want to release a server like that?

– No. – Probably not. – Not, not, not ready. We’re still, we’re still in alpha. – Exactly, exactly. So we’re going to try this again and we’re going to scroll up, and then we’re just going to actually go back, and then so all I did there was I pressed T in chat,

And then I pressed Up twice, and it allows you to go back up to your other command, and then I’m going to edit it here, that way I don’t have to type out all of that stuff again, because that just take a minute. – Cool, nice shortcut.

– Exactly, so I’m going to add quotes around this, just so that way, it will take anything I add within it, including spaces. – Oh. – And then we’re just going to add a space after Mom. And then we’re going to press enter.

– So now if you type it again, it’ll be Mom space Trent. – There it is, perfect. – Ah! – But again, I still don’t like those brackets, the little curly things on the outside, greater than, less than, whatever, yeah exactly, like alligators or crocodiles, depending on where you’re at.

So we’re going to go back over to the panel and we’re going to take care of that. So we’re going to go over into the File Manager, and that’s where all the plugin configurations are, which is over on the left side here. – This is some advanced stuff.

– Yeah, this is like you’re editing the server stuff. This is big work. We’re going to go into the plugins folder. – Mm-hmm. – So all we do is click on that, and then we’re going to go down to Essentials, because Essentials is the one that handles like the chat format here.

– Cool. – And then we scroll down until the config.yml, so that’s like the main configuration file. There’s a lot of stuff over here, which we’ll get to in other tutorials. We go into config, and then this is really big, so there’s a lot of stuff here,

And I’m going to start scrolling down. – Wow. – Until we find this, and okay. I’m just going to Control + F for EssentialsChat. – Cool. – Until we get there, and then bam, there it is. – It’s really obvious, you can see how big it is–

– Yeah, yeah, all those pound signs, and then this section requires the EssentialsChat.jar to work, and Minehut installed that for us when we installed the EssentialsChat plugin earlier. – Nice! – So we’re good to go. So there’s a lot of stuff about the chat.

We don’t want to worry about local chat right now, we just want to go to the format. So we see that the brackets are right here. So I want to get rid of those brackets, yup. And then, that’s just going to do that.

And then just to make sure that we know the difference between the display name and the message coming in, because some people try to like, fake that they’re different people or whatever. – Oh yeah, see that all the time. – We’re going to add an &R, so that’s just going to reset

If we have our name a special color, it’s a chat color for reset, and then we’re going to add a colon. And then that’s just going to make it so like, here’s your username, and then anything after the colon is the message. – Got it. – So that’s all we’re doing there.

And then in the bottom right, here. Boop! – Boop! – There we go, we’re going to click Save. So that’s going to save the file. Success. – Then you can see success. There was a little message that popped up in the bottom. – Yep, yep, success. Close, okay.

We’re going to go back in-game, and we’re just going to do a simple command called E-S-S, so that’s Essentials now. – Mm-hmm. – And then reload, and that’s just going to reload the configuration file that we just saved. – So for the most part, any time you do anything plugin-based,

You’re either going to have to restart your server. – Yep. – Or at least reload the plugin, just so it can adapt to those changes. – Exactly, a lot of plugins allow you to reload the configuration files, some don’t. Essentials, luckily, does, so we’re just going to do that real quick,

And now I’m going to type in chat, and I should see those brackets removed and our colon after my name. There it is! – Mom Trent, colon, hi! – Nice, so the other thing is– – Super clear. – Mom should be, like, should it be pink or something like that?

Or, I mean, because let’s be honest here, a white colored text Mom, and then. – It doesn’t pop! – Yeah, it’s not like, who would want to be that rank? – No, you need the color for the authority. – Exactly. So we’re going to scroll back up,

And we’re going to go over to our, the command that we did last time. I’m going to add some brackets around this. I’m going to add like, what color do you think? We could do something fancy like we can do &D, like the And sign and D, not Andy, we know,

We know Andy downstairs. – Yeah. – And then we’re going to, so that’s going to make the first bracket that color. – Mm-hmm. – We’re going to go to &F to do white, and then we’re going to go back to &D. – So the brackets are one color,

And then Mom is another color. – Exactly, and then just to make sure my username isn’t the purple color too, because that would look really weird, we’re just going to set &R, that’s just going to do the reset color again. – Cool.

– And we have a link to what all these color codes are in the video description. And then I’m just going to hit Enter. There we go, and oh, nice, see? – Wow! – Yeah, and then if I type in chat, there it is. – Oh, so cool. – Nice!

– Now I know you’re official. – Yes, exactly. – Like you’re a big deal on this server. – I am the mom on this server. – The mom. – If I hop over to the other account on this server, oh yeah, you can see all the chat there.

I say hi, it’s just my username and the colon, because I don’t actually have a group here. So if I want to add myself to this group so my chat is also like that, I’m going to go back over to my OP account, and I’m going to do slash L-P

And I’m going to do user, because we’re talking about users here. And then the user here is SuperLeague. – Cool. – And then we are going to do parent, set, so this is just like what is your main group. – Yeah. – So parents like the main parent group,

Not our parents group here. And then we’re just going to do parents. So we want to add SuperLeague to parents as well. – Mm-hmm. – Sweet, and so that got rid of their groups, added them to that. – So we’re going to go back over to the SuperLeague account.

– Back to this account, and we’re going to do hi again, and there it is! – Ah, SuperLeague’s also a mom now! – Nice, so that’s how you set up the chat settings, and then the next thing that we’re going to do is actually, it’s not really fair, like you set up groups

With prefixes and stuff like that, but like, the whole thing about ranks is you want different people to be able to do different things, right? So like, if you pay a couple of bucks, you can have a prefix, and you know, you can, say, run a different command that nobody else can.

– Ooh, I like special things. – Exactly, so on this account here, I am not OP. I’m going to try broadcasting a message to the server. Don’t have access. – Hmm. – Okay, that’s unfortunate. But, there’s ways to set up access to just certain things without giving somebody OP

And giving them access to everything. So we’re going to go over back to our group here, or our OP account here. Now we’re going to go with L-P, group, because we’re talking about group. – Mm-hmm. – Talking about parents group. And then we’re going to go into permission,

So we’re talking about permissions here. – So now we’re assigning a permission that parents can do and nobody else. – Exactly, exactly. And the permissions are usually relative to either like, Minecraft itself, or in this case, Essentials, a plugin. So if you install a plugin that allows you to do a broadcast command,

People won’t be able to do that by default, you have to give them a very specific permission for that. So we’re in this case just going to allow people in the parents group to broadcast. Because like if you’re a parent, you should be able to tell people stuff, right? – Yeah. – Exactly.

So we’re going to do permission. – They may not listen. – Yeah, yeah (laughs) maybe, maybe not. And then we’re going to do set, because we want to just set it, and then we’re going to do essentials.broadcast. So in this case, it’s just essentials.broadcast to add the permission. – Mm-hmm.

– And then there we go, essentials.broadcast, we should be able to go back to this guy now, type slash broadcast, &- – Oh. – I can type h, and yeah, hi. There we go, that’s better. – Hi! – And then I go on–

– So now, now if you’re a parent, or if you’re a mom, you can broadcast a message, because you just enabled that permission. – Exactly, because I did permission. And then, if I wanted to add other things, like whatever plugins you install, you can add specific permissions,

All you have to do is on an OP account, just add a permission just like this. Whatever it is, the last permission you can find, it’s on the link to the plugin, it tells you all the permissions for all the different things that it can do. – [Trent] So yeah!
