If someone is going to subscribe to your twitch channel it means they like and want to support your content and in turn that means you need to show them that they’re important and you appreciate what they’re doing one of the best and easiest ways to do this is by setting up a Twitch subscriber role in your discord today i’m going to be showing you guys how to link your discord through with your twitch to make it more discoverable how to make sure the subscriber role is working automatically so you don’t have to do anything at all how to set up the subscriber role And generally i want to cover a lot of points that i think when i first started the tutorials that i watched didn’t cover with this and i’ve had to kind of stumble across along the way let’s go hey guys my name is Eljay with streamscheme.com i’m also a variety streamer over at Twitch.tv/eljayem_ links to both those in the descriptions and today i’m gonna be showing you guys how to add a bit more incentive for people to subscribe to your twitch stream now we are gonna be doing this by setting up subscriber roles on discord but before you go anywhere Because you’re not an affiliate you really should watch this video anyway because at the end of the day you’re gonna need to know how to do this for when you reach affiliate and it’ll give you a lot Of really solid tips when it comes to setting up your community’s discord your roles and everything along those lines as always i have time codes in the description and in the top comments so use those to jump to wherever you need to go but let’s just get into it one of the Reasons a discord is so crucial for every single streamer and every single twitch stream that is is because a follow doesn’t mean anything after you get your first 50 followers followers stop mattering because at the end of the day a follow doesn’t equal a viewer who’s going To return a follower just shows someone might want to have their name on screen or express interest however joining a discord shows heavy intent that is someone who wants to be a part of the community they want to make friends they want to engage with people So if you don’t have a discord server for your stream you’re making a serious mistake and you’re going to really hamper how much you can grow and in turn once you have that discord set up if you Reach affiliate and people start subscribing all you have to do is follow through with these video steps and suddenly half the people in your discord get a special subscriber role and they get special subscriber channels where they can do things with you so before i get into the first step i do want To check it out there what is the funniest or best discord channel you’ve ever seen in my discord we have a channel called pet photos where people just post photos of their adorable pets It is the best thing in my life don’t tell my wife and at the end of the day if you also need help setting up a discord server let me know exactly what you’re curious about and i’ll make a video on That as well just want to help you guys out okay so let’s get into the first step and get over to the computer so the first step you’re going to need to do whether you’re a subscriber hoping to Join a stream is discord or if you’re a streamer is connect your twitch to your discord this is crucial so open up discord hit the cog wheel to go to your user settings and click connections when you’re in here you can click twitch and follow the steps to connect your twitch account Once you’re done you’ll see something like mine here see i haven’t already linked so these are all the channels who i’ve been gifted a twitch sub or i potentially follow so i can click join in this connection step i want to quickly add something though you should review what is Displaying on your profile in this area the amount of people who i have had to give a quick heads up to because they have their entire full name and personal information linked to their discord and it’s being displayed on their profile from facebook or spotify or something is a bit worrying And almost every single one of them has freaked out when they’ve realized that’s been the case if you add a connection make sure you’re not displaying it on the profile unless you’re absolutely comfortable too now that your personal discord is linked through the connections tab that I showed you with your twitch account now we need to set up your server to be linked to your twitch account as well before i do that though i’m gonna throw it out there if this video helps you out at All maybe instead of checking out my other content i release videos weekly on all things twitch all things streaming and we’re gonna think about doing a few more discord videos so maybe subscribe and check out my other content okay so we’re gonna show you how to link that server to your twitch Account and then edit roles and create roles for subscribers let’s get back over to the computer so head over to the server that you want linked to your twitch click the drop down arrow and click integrations on the menu so you’ll want to integrate your twitch And if you have linked everything properly you’ll see something along the lines of this what you’ll want to do is you want to click sync and after doing that you’ll be showing a lot of new options such as synced roles here which is a role that has now been automatically created And we’ll show you how to edit that in a second you’ll see how many of your subs have synced their discord as well and then you’ll have expired sub behavior as well as the grace period the expired sub behavior explains what’s going to happen when someone’s twitch subscription runs out Say you have it set to two weeks and you have it set to remove subrole it means that after two weeks if they haven’t resubscribed they will lose their sub role in discord i have mine set To 24 hours because we get a lot of gift subs on my channel and it just means that when those gift subs run out within 24 hours they’re removed from that automatically i just have mine so that they Lose their role however you can also set this up to kick them if you just want to subscribe only discord but if you’re small that’s really going to hamper your growth but at the same time it could be an incentive for people to continue their subscriptions that’s entirely up to you to decide I personally think it’s a little bit extreme to kick someone when all you’re trying to do is build a community another thing you want to click while you’re here is the allow synced subscribers to use your twitch custom emoticons in discord button because why not let people use Your remotes wherever they go or whatever they do they’re subscribed to you so they can use them and it’s good advertising so let’s get into editing your subscriber roles i’ve been watching a lot of tutorials about this to make sure that everything i’m gonna say is correct and make sure It’s covered properly and i noticed that a lot of tutorials said you need to create a role but here’s the thing you don’t actually need to create a role here it would have already created the role When you first synced everything up if you do want to make a whole new name and stuff you can just edit the world it’s already been created or you can make a new one and then change it here but I kind of think that’s just extra steps that you don’t really need to cover it’s too confusing so let’s just stick with using twitch subscribers for now so you’ve got everything linked up you should have the twitch subscriber role automatically added to your discord And we’re gonna get into the editing definitions for that role so head back to the role section click on twitch subscriber this is the base role here you’ll see mine we have tier one through three don’t worry about that you can change the name here or the color My subscribers are pink and i have display roll members separately from online members meaning they appear on the side of discord under a heading that says twitch subscriber next you have allow anyone to at mention this role i would recommend turning this off or else people can add Twitch subscriber and spam all of your subs now onto general permissions you’ll see that i have almost everything turned off here see twitch subs aren’t admins or moderators i don’t want to be able to manage roles the server changing nicknames no kicking or banning all the way down until the Option where they turn on is read text channels and see voice channels because obviously we don’t have this turned on then they can’t even use the discord so you’ve set up the permissions now the second to last step is setting up the categories and channels for your subscribers to use But before we get into that the very last step on this is the most important of everything so please do not go anywhere we’ll cover this step and the very last one is actually really really important Okay so you’ll want to click the drop down on your server click create category and give it a name such as subscriber channels click private you’ll get an option to choose who can use this category So you’ll select your mods your twitch subscribers etc whatever roles you want to be able to use this now once the channel or category has been created right click on it click edit category click permissions click roll and you get a lot of options the slash means it inherits the settings You chose when you made this role but a lot of new settings are here so we need to go through this i’d recommend turning on and turning off the following turn on send messages turn off text to Speech because it can be spammy turn off manage since subs aren’t mods they don’t need to edit it’s up to you about embed links and attach files but i have it on because my mods will delete Anything bad in my channels i have read message history on which means when they first join they can read back through the conversations or they can see announcements when it comes to mention ads i have these off because again only mods and myself should be able to ping all the hundreds of People in my discord use external emojis is up to you but i have nothing wrong with it so i have yes and ad reactions is a big yes because people love reacting to content if you’re planning on Adding voice channels which i think is a good idea turn on connect and speak but video i’d say it’s also up to you but i have it off don’t let the mute definitely move members because again this Is more for moderators and the final one is voice activity i have this off but sometimes if you have people with really bad mics and lots of noise you can enforce push to talk to make it a bit easier On life so hit save on these permissions head back and click the plus next to the category to create a channel you’ll get three options text voice and announcements just hit text for now click private click twitch subscriber roles or whatever your name for your twitch subscribers are don’t forget To name the new channel as well right click edit channel permissions and click sync now this will sync the channel to the permissions you set up for the category this is the same for your voice Channel as well the only time you want to create a new channel in this category that you don’t have the same synced permissions is for example you’re creating an announcement channel or a channel you don’t want the subs to see in that case you won’t sync it you’ll just create your whole new Permissions just for that one so i have one where they can’t send messages but they can also just read it and add reactions this is my announcement or my kind of like news channel for the subs so You’re almost done but the final step is the most important and it is a brand new feature discord only just brought out lj why is it so important to do this last step well if you don’t do this last Step you could be trying to settle this up and you have no way to know whether or not it worked so what you’re going to do is you’re going to go back to your role settings click on twitch subscriber And click view server as this role it will show you everything the role can do and see i know that sounds simple but it is crucial because if you don’t do this you could set everything up and then Wonder why people aren’t using a certain channel or a certain voice thing but at the end of the day they can’t even see it but you can because you’re an admin speaking of troubleshooting if you have Any issues or any concerns or you need help with anything chuck it in the comments down below i answer every single person or if you want you can even reach out to us on twitter or you can check Me out when i’m live and i’m happy to help where i can with all that out of the way you now have sub channels set up on your discord i hope it helped i hope the screen recordings were clear enough For you guys i create videos weekly so think about subscribing and i will see you next week How To Link A Twitch Account With A Discord Server
Head over to your server that you want to be linked to your Twitch and click the drop-down arrow, and click Integrations on the menu.
If you have linked your accounts properly, you’ll see an option to click integrate, and you’ll want to click Sync, after doing that you will be shown a lot of new options such as Synced Role here which is a role that has now been automatically created and we will show how to edit that in a second, you’ll see how many of your subs have synced their discord as well, and then Expired Sub Behaviour, as well as the Grace Period.
The expired sub behavior refers to what happens when someone’s subscription to your Twitch runs out, and the grace period is when the behavior will happen. Say you leave it at 2 weeks, they will stay a subscriber for 2 weeks in the discord. I recommend setting this to a day or so, as it will be an incentive for people to stay subscribed but it’s up to you.
You’ll also want to click this Allow Sync’d Subscribers to use your twitch custom emoticons in discord, because why not let them have a fun time and share your emotes around.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.
