Hello everyone my name is pixariffs and this week i stepped back into minecraft dungeons to check out the creeping winter dlc the second of two bonus level packs announced back when the game launched i’ve been playing dungeons on and off casually but still using the same character From my bear fist steve play through these days though he’s punching a little harder thanks to a set of high level fighters bindings enchanted with radiance shockwave and sharpness i still don’t use any of the ranged weapons just a battle robe and the fighter’s bindings i’ve also swapped out the totem of Regeneration for an ironhide amulet since radiance heals me often enough with this character build i’ve completed the game on apocalypse 7 the highest difficulty level currently available and i’ve done the same for the jungle awakens dlc creeping winter was a great addition to the game and i had great fun playing Through the new levels casually sliding around on the ice dodging arrows from strays and fighting the new icologers and illusioners i completed all three levels pretty comfortably with my end game equipment but that was where the real fun began because in playing through minecraft dungeons without using weapons I had caught the attention of the team at mojang studios and mark watson hinted that one of the new achievements added along with the dlc was going to be inspired by bear fist steve so when i updated the game i loaded up the xbox companion app and there it was frozen fists an Achievement for beating the first level of creeping winter without having melee or ranged weapons equipped what an honor to have my bizarre challenge run celebrated in this new set of achievements so naturally i had to step up to the challenge i removed my fighter’s bindings loaded up frosted fjord on default difficulty 2 And started punching my way through the level but it just didn’t feel like the old days with my battle robe armor it was too easy i had health in the thousands and the mobs were only doing five or six damage at a time if i wanted to breeze through and get the Achievement i could do that easily but was that really in the spirit of the original challenge i think not and cranking the difficulty wasn’t the answer either because i would still only do one or two damage per punch myself and it just become a boring grind the answer though Was still in my inventory out of a sense of nostalgia for that early bear fist steve run i’d still kept the original level 6 ember robe that first lucky drop in soggy swamp that carried me all the way to the final boss before i needed to upgrade my armor Over 100 power levels lower than my apocalypse level gear but definitely the right armor to make default difficulty feel like a challenge again i reloaded the level with the ember robe and now it felt fun my artifacts were still high level but the mobs had the potential to put a Serious dent in my health and once or twice i had to back away in case i got cornered or overwhelmed by arrows i even died at one point but on second thoughts activating all three of those switches might have been a bad idea still between surprise gift potions the Burning in shot and flinging enemies into the river with the wind horn i was in my element and was able to punch my way to the end of the level the boss fight with the illusioner was slow going mostly thanks to the size of his health bar But it was pretty manageable i just run into the doppelgangers with the burning aura and start swinging at the one who actually took damage but the most surprising thing was when i got him down to about a quarter of his health he seemed to just give up and teleport Himself into the river dispatching him instantly and i won by default it was pretty funny anyway with the illusion of dealt with i could lower the drawbridge to the lone fortress and claim my frozen fists achievement bear fist steve was back on four but if you thought i was about to stop There you’d be wrong the second level of creeping winter ends with a new boss fight against the wretched wraith or wicked wraith if you believe the woman who does the voiceovers the shard must be destroyed before this wicked wraith can turn the world to nothing but Ice and snow and i wanted to see if bear fist steve was up to the challenge lone fortress can’t be played below difficulty force so the enemy’s health and damage was already on par with high block halls the arch illegia’s castle from the main game it was a much more challenging task To get through the earlier enemies and even though it was possible to sprint through a good chunk of the level avoiding combat there are also areas where you have to find key mobs to progress and there are lots of mobs waiting to ambush you the first diamond key was easy enough to Get but the second brought me to a standstill this one required you to drop into an open room and dispatch all the mobs before you could leave with no way to retreat and only able to punch one at a time i quickly got overwhelmed by the heavy damage of the royal guards And the iceologers dropping chunks of ice on me i tried mixing up my strategy equipping an overpowered armor just to spawn a bunch of potions and food then switching back to the ember robe for combat it wasn’t enough and eventually with no lives left and a desire to progress I just left the overpowered armor on laying into the mobs and scattering them with the windhorn i wasn’t doing any extra damage but i had so much health they just couldn’t take me down it didn’t feel in the spirit of the challenge though and the game Seemed to agree because by the time i’d cleared the room i had actually pushed some enemies out of the area with the windhorn and the gates wouldn’t drop because i hadn’t defeated them all it was impossible to leave the arena and i had no ranged attack so eventually rolling into walls in case I could just glitch the game out and clip through them i ended up getting stuck behind a statue unable to do anything but quit the level and return to camp it felt like i was being judged for using apocalypse tear armor on a default difficulty level Bear fist steve was better than this i was ready to prove it along with the creeping winter levels minecraft dungeons has actually updated the camp area as well it now has five villagers instead of just the one blacksmith and the wandering trader the blacksmith can now upgrade the power Level of your tools and armor as long as you’re okay leaving it with them while you complete a few more levels there’s a luxury trader who will sell you rare items for a high price a mystery trader who gives you blind boxes with a few hints about the contents And the village merchant has a rotating stock of items you can actually preview before you buy them or pay some emeralds to re-roll what they sell there’s also the gift wrapper but he’s just for exchanging items in multiplayer with minimal equipment my power level was low enough that i was still Getting the same kind of weapons and armor that belonged in default difficulty so i reasoned if they could sell me the kind of armor i wore to take down the arch illegal the first time i could wear that on my return to the lone fortress and turn the tables Eventually i settled on a mercenary armor with potion barrier cooldown and burning and before i left i handed my original ember robe over to the blacksmith for an upgrade the mercenary armor was slower but i could take a hit and the burning aura was much more powerful it had the right balance for These more powerful mobs and making my way back to the diamond key arena i cleared the room by chugging potions and melting everything i could touch with a little help from another set of armor but only to generate some additional potions and food with the key finally obtained i could Unlock the door to the wretched wraith battle it had gone so easily for me on my casual playthrough that i wasn’t sure what to expect from a more challenging fight so i spawned a few potions and food items beforehand and activated the boss fight by this point i had my strategy on lock And the armor was good enough that even the bullet held projectiles and the extra enemies didn’t prove too challenging whittling down the wraith’s health until it dropped the shard and i could get a few extra hits in bear fist steve punched his way to victory now that the wicked wraith and the orbs Shard are dealt with these tormented lands can begin to thaw with the boss level conquered i returned to camp but i wasn’t able to pick up my ember robe from the blacksmith yet so bear fist steve decided to take a vacation and try his hand at herding mooshrooms Having found all the hidden runes and unlocked the secret level during my apocalypse difficulty playthrough i decided to try it on default and punch my way through the mushroom monstrosity without my fighter’s bindings while the monstrosity has a lot of health it also has some pretty predictable attack patterns And was massively slowed down by the wind horn in the end it was no match for bear fist steve powerful fists and with one more level left before my ember rope was done i rounded things off with an easy breezy trip through a low difficulty pumpkin pastures You did it reunited with the upgraded ember robe bear fist steve could once again return to training with his fighters bindings and punching his way through apocalypse difficulty in search of the next levels of loot and glory and once again i want to say a huge Thank you to the mojang studios team for honoring the way of their fist steve with that frozen fists achievement this game feels truly special to me at this point and if you’re watching this video on the week it releases and
