I Made A Rec Room PvP Game in ONE HOUR!

I decided to challenge myself to make a complete game in rec room VR in only an hour and then to make it even harder for myself I took every prop in the game and I put it on this big wheel and then I’m gonna spin the wheel three times to get

Three props that I’m gonna need to use in the game that doesn’t sound too bad Until you realize that the majority of rec room props are really specific and not very useful some of my favorites are I-beam 5 meters a gaming table small and and groggy Augie let’s hope we don’t get

Any of those so I spun my big wheel of all 250 rec room props and the three it landed on were Rock large tall concert speaker and ore how am I gonna make these random objects into a game in only an hour I don’t know I better figure it

Out because I’m gonna have to because they had such a small amount of time to make the game I wanted to keep everything as minimalist as possible so I wouldn’t have to do that much art so I’d need a setting that was easy to create and the first thing that came to

Mind when I saw I got the ore prop was the ocean because you use it to like row boats and stuff what if the game was about these players jumping cross rocks in the ocean trying not to fall in while also trying to fight other players with

The oars only one problem we still do need to use the concert speaker somehow I’m also not really a huge fan of that idea just being a basic PVP game where your only goal is to kill other players so how can I introduce a new objective while also tying it to the concert

Speakers well what’s the number one thing that all rec room players love in PvP games [Applause] that’s right there being a server microphone that they can scream into so let’s change the idea what if instead of being a free-for-all it’s a sort of race to get to the end where there’s the

Server mic and concert speakers at the end where if you get there you get to yell into it for a little bit before being teleported back that idea is pretty simple but it uses all three props I have to use and it’s technically a complete game and I think I can make

It in an hour so uh let’s go make it okay I have an empty room I’ve got my three objects right here and I’ve got a vague idea of what I want to do so let’s start the timer and get going I started out by making the environment with the

Ocean and the rocks and this was so quick just because it was pretty simple I mean the ocean was literally just a big flat rectangle and no I have no idea why the ocean changes color as I look around and I did not have time to fix it

I made the start and end areas out of bigger different kinds of rocks okay this is pretty good we’ve got rocks there’s a lot of rocks and then obviously the ending platform needs to have its microphone and speakers so I put those down there along with a little

Pedestal to make people who get there feels special so if I talk into this mic does it actually come out of the speakers at all no okay we’ll just pretend that it does I got the basic layout done and started doing a little bit of circuits to

Respawn anyone who falls into the water okay so now when I jump in the water it should respawn me back at the start there we go that is something that is so simple to make but with such a tight time limit it’s just stressful and just like that we’re

Already almost 20 minutes in time went so fast I hadn’t even started on the combat yet at this point so I should probably do that it was at this point that I realized the oars wouldn’t really work for this game because they have such short range people wouldn’t be able

To actually hit each other because they’d all be on separate rocks so everyone would just run by each other and never actually fight some sort of gun weapon would definitely work better for this game because you could actually hit people ahead of you and catch up but

I couldn’t use a gun I had to use an ore because that’s what the wheel landed on and it’s not like I can just make the ore into a gun I mean come on guys okay we’re turning these oars into guns for reasons that I swear are good but I’m

Too stressed to explain right now making the orshoot projectiles ended up taking a bit because it was more circuits than I’d planned to have to do also quick side tangent I need to say this okay so the number one thing that I see amateur circuiteers do is not clean up their

Control panels for stuff like gun handles and projectile launchers and they just leave all the ports that they aren’t using there like guys please this looks so messy especially when you have a thousand guns with these massive control panels that you’re only using one or two inputs in just take the

Little bit of extra time it takes to go through and remove the unused inputs and clean up the control panel please it will make everything so much cleaner and it will make you look way more professional uh anyways yeah that ended up making it take longer too but it was

Worth it I promise okay guys good news we now have functioning or gun and it looks awesome and definitely is not weird at all I randomly spread these organs all across the map and started on the boring parts of making the bullets actually do damage and respawn you and

Display your health above your head and all that boring circuits the player world UI system sucks blah blah blah so I finished all that and we’re over 30 minutes in now and I realized that if I want to actually test the circuits I just made which is very important to do

I would need another person in the room uh angle angle angle I need you angle please I need you you know that video idea I told you about where I’d like make a game in an hour yeah I’m doing that right now uh and so I’m I’m gonna

Test if I can uh kill you now that I’d actually tested stuff I found a whole bunch of stuff that wasn’t working so I spent some time doing minor fixes like not being able to hit yourself and the UI displaying improperly what the what is happening oh I didn’t make the player definition

Board active I’m so stupid this is all just small time wasting stuff but it’s important to get it right for the game to work decently and hey that took 15 minutes to do so we’re now 45 minutes into the challenge wow time sure does fly right guys make sure to subscribe

For the amount of times you make it to the end I mean I could already tell that everyone’s gonna want to grind to the top of the leaderboards for this game just because of how awesome and fun it is I hadn’t actually played the game at

This point so I spent the last 10 minutes of the hour doing some small tests with angle to make sure it was actually playable and again a bunch more small issues popped up so these are way too far apart the rocks are way too far okay hold on I

Have to reap I have to make more rocks I hope you can see how much time in game development is just spent adding or fixing Small Things nobody will ever care about even in only like an hour-long challenge like this do you think do you think that’s an appropriate
