Gosh Ok. *Gasp* Yes. WHHHAAAATTTTT!?!?! Wait, what? Yeah, that’s right. Your eyes don’t deceive you. I’m making Sonic in Minecraft with no mods. In this video, I’m gonna recreate the original Sonics physics engine inside of Minecraft with literally nothing but the raw game. And at the end of the video, I’m gonna get five of my YouTuber friends to react to the map. It also just so happens that none of these YouTubers have played Sonic before, so this is probably gonna be their first reaction to the series. But yeah, this video’s a wild one. You’re gonna have to watch it at the end of the, see how this. Turns out, okay, so how in the world are we gonna do this? Well, actually, I have a pretty good place to start. You see in my last. Video I recreated Super Mario Bros and Minecraft and in order to Get two D to work there, I used a system I originally created all the way back in August of last year. Wow. It really doesn’t feel like it was that long ago, but yeah. The system detects which way you’re going. Based off Armor stands and uses a model that is teleported to the Player to make it look like you controlling a two D character. I updated this system in Mario to be a bit more snappy and precise, but I think this is a good place to start. See using a pretty cool software called Block Bench, you can make your own custom Models and import them into Minecraft with a completely vanilla resource pack. This is the same trick I used for Mario’s model. I grabbed the Sonic One spreadsheet and decide to use that to make a three D model to overlay Mario. And it worked. We have a moving sonic. However, this still doesn’t feel like Sonic. I mean like it’s funny having Sonic and Mario, but it’s not Sonic. So we’re gonna need a sonic level and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what I’m gonna make. Yep. You guessed it. It’s Greenhill zone. The level that started it all, the most iconic level and the most overused level. However, green Hill Zone was definitely one of the harder choices to make in Minecraft. It’s filled with different slopes and arches and things. You can’t really just make, with Minecraft blocks, I had to make custom Models for practically every slope that you can run through building. It took around just eight hours itself. Without the resource pack on top of it, which probably took another 12. I also built the background in such a way where it gives a parallax effect When running through, making it look like it’s moving in different layers, like the original game as far as making it so the player can run up the slopes go. It isn’t really as complicated as you may think it is. Snow layers work perfectly for this as it gives you a different collision For every single layer it has. It makes it look like you can run up slopes and no problem, and it works just fine. Just like that, sonic’s movable, I also made it so the more sonic runs, the faster he goes. Even switching to a quicker, faster spray as he moves along To help sell that illusion. Also, I made slopes work by making it detect how quick he’s moving when he reaches one, and then when he hits the tip of a slope, giving him a certain amount of levitation to make it look like he gets flinging into the air. I believe the illusion works perfectly. It’s a great foundation. It’s already feeling a lot like sonic. However, I wanna take it one step farther. So in the original Green Hill zone, there’s these platforms that crum up beneath your feet. At first glance, you might think this is pretty hard to make in Minecraft, However, it’s actually quite simple. Thanks to the summon command, we can summon a falling block and have it fall right beneath us to the ground. Thanks to this little trick we can make any block fall perfectly in Minecraft, like there are gravity block, and as I thought it looks Exactly like the crumbling platforms do. You also can’t have Sonic without his rings, so it’s important we add those too. I made them spin and added a nice little particle effect to make it extra satisfying when collecting them. The point of rings is to make it so you don’t die when you touch an enemy. However, in order to die, we need enemies. So naturally I went and modeled up a, what is that? Okay, so after remembering to add the texture to the game, we had a working enemy to go against. Also later on in the level, there’s these falling platforms you can step on and then they fall beneath you a few seconds later. You can use the Falling Sand trick here too, and it works perfectly. You jump on the platform. Then a few seconds later it falls beneath you. Next up is probably gonna be the hardest part of this entire project. Yeah, that’s right. We’re making the loop de loop. Oh my God. I make the loopty loop. It has to be impossible, right? Like how do you make loops in minecrafts? That’s not how Minecraft work. Like not even BOJ could do it. They made a sonic map and they couldn’t even make it themselves. Even with access to minecraft’s code, I’m stuck in vanilla here. Nah, don’t worry. I’m joking. Yeah, I know an easy way to do it. Let me break it down for you. The loops divided into three parts. The build of the loop to loop the hip boxes of the loop to loop, and the looping of the loop to loop modeling the loop de loop was by far the most time consuming part. Modeling this alone took over 10 hours. However, I’m pretty happy with the results for the hit boxes. I made it detect what side of the loop to loop you were on, and then changed the collision to make it so you can run up a wall on that side And that the other side doesn’t have any collision, so you can run through. Using that system I was able to detect when the player got to the top of one of those walls and then play an animation of it going around the top and then Switch the collision on the sides and it created a pretty effective loop effect. We just gotta make sure the game can bear with the amount of code going on in this one spot. You know what else you’re gonna have to bear with this five second ad. Oh yeah. Don’t skip it. Don’t worry. It’s real short. I’ve partnered with mantle capes to bring you this video. What’s mantle capes you might ask. Well, I mean, you know, they make capes. What? You know what, what, what, what, what a surprise. However, they also just so happen to be the cheapest capes on Minecraft I’ll find requires you to pay $10. Lunar requires you to pay a lot more than $10. Mantel on the other hand, It’s just six thanks to mantle. I also now have my own custom K P C here. Unlike most YouTuber ad content, I tried to make this as, you know, Consumer friendly as possible. I mean, I think this would look cool on anyone buying. This Cape directly supports me and this channel and feature projects. So if you wanna help me out the link to buy the capes in the descrip. Okay, back to the video. However, I’m also gonna have to make the tunnel, the tunnel’s pretty interesting as you’re supposed to keep your momentum coming out of it. So I made a new special speed state for when you’re going through the tunnel. So when you come out and hit that slope, it send you launching in The air to collect those rings, just like the original game. And yeah, this is pretty much feeling like Sonic. There’s not much left I have to do. Last but not least, I model the signpost for the end of the level. Sonic needs to run past this to clear the stage. So I put it at, in an armor stand and have the armor stand rotate when Sonic passes it. I also have it display, a little UI saying he passed. Then shortly after I have it reset the level to the beginning and like that we have a playable to the sonic in Minecraft. I’m gonna get my five YouTuber Friends reminder they’ve never played Sonic before. To play the map and see how they react to it real quickly, I wanna slip this in here. These maps are not easy to make. I spend hundreds of hours of my life making these maps and all This free content for you to enjoy. And all I ask is one thing, please subscribe. Like I don’t think you guys quite realize how much, like even just one person subscribing means to me. Showing that you guys care about these maps is really awesome, and it definitely Motivates me to make more of these. My YouTuber time. Yes. Oh my gosh, this is real. Okay. So do I just play the game now? Oh my gosh, those rings, dude. Oh my gosh. I feel like this is an enemy. Do I jump on him like Mario? Maybe. Whoa. Oh. The background’s actually so far. I dunno how you do this. Oh, there we go. Nice. This is really nice. Oh man. Oh man, it works. This works so well. This is really good. This is really good. Whoops. It’s nice in three d I like it. I have to be like, how do you do these animations? What? I have no mods. This is all How is the, how is it like smooth? What? All right. Oh my gosh. Okay. Yes. What? What? My brain isn’t like, how are you this smart? At Minecraft, you could be working at nasa. You could be working at nasa. Yeah. Boom. Wait, what is this guy? Oh, oh. Did I win? Yeah, that’s, that’s how these levels end. You go to the signpost and you flip it around the sonic instead of the bad guy. This is so cool. I think. Yeah. Okay. Oh, what the hell? Oh my God. Okay. Well, how have you made this? But this is so cool. I dunno how you’ve done this, but this is so cool, eh. Let’s go. I’m so bad. I like that journalist can’t play. There we go. Oh, nice. Falling platforms is very good. Oh yeah. Okay. You got me. There we go. There we go. Oh, nice. Little bit of UI there. Ugh, I’m starting to complete this. I need to learn to ign her. No, I was gonna say right now you cannot get all the ring. Oh, okay. Yo. Classic. Oh yeah, I remember that. But oh my gosh, that’s what I meant when I said can’t hit all the nothing.
