I Spent 100 Days Building a Modern City in Minecraft… Here’s How

So this 100 days video is probably unlike anything you have ever seen before so one day i woke up with a thought i had made four 100 days videos all of which have done amazingly well compared to my other content however they are very taxing to make bringing up constant stress of dying

And the fear of losing everything so as i woke up on that fateful day my brain cycled through other options first by considering what other skills i had in minecraft were there any skills that i possessed in this block game that deserve their own video well i wouldn’t be presenting this video

To you today if the answer wasn’t Yes so what skill of mine deserved its own 100 days video the answer was building over my 10 plus years of playing minecraft i had developed insane building skill and it’s one of my most complimented features of my other 100 days videos so i think it’s time to give it its own video

But first i needed something specific to build i couldn’t just build so once again i searched my mind thinking of what to create and nearly instantly an image of what i wanted to build entered my mind a modern city modern builds were and are my best and most practiced building style

And a full-on city was something i had never made before so with this idea in mind i got started i created my new world and immediately took to the skies this project of mine would not be created in survival mode no this required the uninterrupted placing of infinite blocks

That creative granted to me i started off exploring my spawn point eagerly searching for a land suitable enough to call home despite my efforts of searching i eventually resorted to commands i had enabled them for easier access with building and also in case an event like this happened

Where i could not find land by myself so i decided to use the locate biome command search for a very specific kind of biome the tall birch forest this bomb housed only birch trees some of which rose to the incredible height of 16 blocks or more i

Expected to be teleported to an inland bomb devoid of land detail but instead the gods of minecraft heard my prayers for goodland and gave it to me in the form of many many small birch islands all surrounding a central larger island beautiful in the eyes of an explorer

And the gold mine in the eyes of a builder wasting no time i decided that i wanted to start building already without searching for potentially better land because in my eyes this was better land the best land now my method for building modern homes comes from reality meaning most of my builds were

Based off of either cgi pictures or legitimate real world pictures of modern homes this is how i built modern homes for over four years searching up modern homes finding one i like and recreating it using the blocks minecraft had to offer after finding a location for my first

House on top of a hill i began my hunt throughout the internet finally stumbling upon a house so perfect it literally demanded to be built and so i got to work using commands i started off by using the slash fill command to delete the top of the hill

This gave me room to begin construction i started off near the deck and made my way inward creating a frame of reference this is a tactic i use to determine the scale of my builds from the image to minecraft this minecraft is made of squares and pixels recreating actual homes is quite a

Daunting task once the frame of reference was made which in this case was the size of the windows building the rest of it is up to you when it comes to modern interior detail is very important every little advantage and strategy you can use you use this is where commands come into

Play in minecraft blocks have different states for example a furnace can be lit or unlit chests can be open or closed and stairs can be twisted and turned but some of these block states are unable to happen naturally in the game for example for a furnace to be

Lit it must be cooking something and for a chest to be opened the player must be using it however there is a tool in minecraft unknown to many people may i introduce to you the debug stick the debug stick is a tool that you can slash give yourself and that allows you

To change the state of any block you click on for example i wanted this barrel to look like it was left open so i used the debug stick until it said open now the barrel looked like it was being used without anyone actually using it i also did the same thing with the

Blessed furnace nearby so it looked like the barbecue is actually on without smelting anything that flame will last forever till i either change the state of the block or break the block this was something i would use in every single build from here on out and with that i continued creating the

First house until i got to the bedroom where i will now introduce to you another command in minecraft there exists a tool called a command block this block allows commands to be executed using a redstone pulse and it can also execute commands that the player normally can’t

With this knowledge i went online to find the website showing player heads this site became my best friend it allows you to search up any type of playerhead if it exists and provides you with a command to put inside the command block when you activate it you would suddenly

Have a player head that was completely unique and not normally accessible through the creative menu i would use this website even more than the debug stick mainly for furniture my first use of it was searching up a speaker next thing i knew my bedroom had a speaker system hooked up to the

Television this tactic would enhance my interior and later even the exterior of my builds finally once i completed the finishing touches the first test was completed in record time just four minecraft days this house would serve as a template and was the first house of many to come

Now things in this video are going to speed up since i’ve already shared my command secrets with you i will only mention them again if it’s necessary to save time after building something so large i wanted to chill out and downscale a little bit heading back to the internet

I discovered this lovely little house and decided that it would be a perfect build i chose a location that was easy to flatten out using slash fill and began to build this house had a really interesting shape and one of the trickiest parts about building off of an image is you have no

Idea what the back of the house should look like so you got to create it yourself thankfully this wasn’t too difficult it was actually pretty fun to try and decide what parts of the house you couldn’t see really looked like interior on a smaller house like this was slightly more complicated

But i still managed to create something nice to look at the bedrooms are especially fun to create since i get to use the head website almost every time apparently i put the speaker on my own head too something to note here are the flying dragon eggs i used as a

Light design using the slash give command i granted myself the eggs along with barrier blocks which are invisible blocks to put underneath of the eggs so they wouldn’t follow the floor i think it made for a pretty nice room design i still had some room left next

To the second house so i decided to build another one here google gave me another small modern home that looked beautiful so i constructed it this one turned out to be one of my favorites interior wise focusing more on the inside i am obsessed with lofts lofts are basically balconies

Inside of my house and in my first house along with this one i created lofts for the bedrooms using the head website i placed drinks and food down to add more detail and i also started using glass panes as flat screen tvs using the debug stick to make sure the

Glass panes didn’t touch the wall behind them just another brilliant feature of this wonderful stick it’s all about the imagination my friends at the end of this video comment below which build was your favorite now if this would eventually become a city it couldn’t just be houses everywhere

I needed some businesses on day one i had saved this image in order to use it later and i decided that instead of it being used as a house it was a perfect structure for a restaurant building this restaurant was super fun it was designed to be a higher end

Restaurant since mostly rich people would be living here the tony starks of the world if you will i created a massive lobby and used the debug stick to create this wall of iron trap doors along with the glass floor to add a reflective surface underneath the balcony

I created one of the best kitchens i had ever made in my life using the player heads to their fullest potential as salads dues roast beef and then i populated the balcony with tables and chairs each table with a different meal on it ranging from kebabs to rabbit stew

I was very very proud of this build but the build that came next completely blew away all other competition now this next build was actually given to me by fubs while we were searching for modern homes as soon as i saw it i immediately knew

That it would be one of the better ones i chose a spot further away from everything else just so i wasn’t stuck building in the same place this virtual bottom was pretty big and i wanted to use as much of it as i could what i didn’t know is just how perfect

The spot was for the house i was creating now while building the structure i wasn’t even sure if i wanted to continue i didn’t know if i was happy with the shape but one thing i learned while building in the series was that interior can carry a build once i began adding detail

To the interior and exterior this house very quickly became my favorite one of the main reasons why is this bedroom in all my years playing this game i can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best bedroom i have ever made the downstairs was incredible as well

Everything fit so perfectly it was like a puzzle made by the gods the fifth house this one was probably the strangest out of any mainly because of the shape it was a massive build but it actually had very little room in it but i still made it work with interior

The only downside of this build was that from the back it was the ugliest thing in the world i honestly had no idea what to do back here so i ended up just building a massive wall normally that’s a huge no-no in building but with modern builds it surprisingly works something

Noteworthy about this build was it was when i created my own style of bay where it’s literally just half slabs connected to an upside-down staircase i would go on to use this bed design many more times in the future i was on the roll with houses so i

Continued right where i left off i wanted to somehow cover up this monstrosity of a wall by building another house right next to it which would hopefully take the focus off the wall this one wasn’t anything special it was mainly there for the reasons above however this has still turned out pretty

Nice especially the bedroom where i use smithing tables as a roof and shulker boxes as a mattress the bottom of smithing tables look really nice this was also my first time recording with my brand new pc and as you can see the fps is insane

At this point i had made six houses and a restaurant i needed to start focusing on other businesses if this was meant to be a city one day i couldn’t just have houses even residential areas need jobs i was never planning to create skyscrapers at least not in this video but i needed

To begin construction of taller and larger builds to support people so for the next eight days i worked tirelessly on the first office building after finding a suitable image to work off of i began building the office i never really built one of these before

But i have worked in one so i know generally what they should have inside normally i build my houses 4×4 but this one was different i wanted to create the entire outside before doing the inside once the outside was done i moved inside creating multiple floors and staircases

On the top floor i created the conference room this is where the higher-ups of the company would come to discuss important things below them were the office desks i used the hedge website to find a suitable computer which i placed on every desk along with end rods connected to levers

Which look like tube lights you know those lights that bugs are always dying in on the largest floor i built another large kitchen this build turned out absolutely incredible for the next nine days i focused on creating a hotel but i didn’t want some typical modern building i wanted to make this hotel

Stand out and also to make it the tallest structure in this neighborhood this was the first build so far that i didn’t use an image for it was all purely from my brain which is probably why it turned out something like this it could work in real life maybe

Anyway once the structure was created i focused on the interior the lobby is by far my favorite part as i took inspiration from the many hotels i’ve visited in my life the rooms were quite simple but not one of them had a bad view

In fact it was quite hard to get a bad view on these lands which is why i love them so much what was also cool about this design was that the rooms were different with the first and third floor only having one big window while the second

And fourth had two big windows should i charge more for the double windowed rooms so now we had three businesses a restaurant a hotel and an office building i wanted to increase that number drastically i didn’t want to create small little businesses everywhere though so i decided that a huge modern mall

Would be the answer i cleared up the last large amount of land i could find and began building once again without an image simply based on memory of my experience and other life models inspiration can come from many strange places i wanted this build to look unique but also function really well

On both floors i built three long rectangular cuboids and stacked them on top of each other and in each one of these i wanted to build a shop i also made the front of the mall very grand with lots of windows and cool shapes i added a glass floor for reflection and

Then got to work on the shops themselves i wanted to shop to sell different items and i decided that player heads were the way to go if you thought i used a lot of player heads at the restaurant well you’re about to see a lot more in the end

The mall consisted of six new shops three clothing stores shirts pants and shoes a watch shop a technology shop and a bookstore i absolutely love the way this bill turned out back to houses i began constructing a relatively simple home near quite a few others

I wanted this area to be one big street lined with houses so i got to work a building going back to searching houses on the internet and recreating them in game i was admittedly getting really bored of the white concrete houses i changed it up a bit on this next house

Introducing a modest style mixed with a villa despite being surrounded by ocean it’s the first house i had built touching the water and it was the first house i’d given a dock i knew that i wanted to add backyards and docks to other houses as well near the end

And this one was the start of it the inside turned out quite nice but my favorite part was the front of the house in the original image lots of plant life existed out in front and i wanted to replicate that using the head website along with minecraft’s many plants i recreated

These plants into something amazing i liked the villa style so i created another one this image was given to me by my friend spooky it was going to be by far the largest house on this road starting with the parts i could see in the image

I realized just how large this house was actually going to be so i knew i had to make it good for the past two villas i had created i had incorporated dead coral blocks which worked surprisingly well they looked kind of like different stone patterns despite how long this house was

I decided to make it rather skinny as well on the inside i created another massive kitchen and dining room along with the hamburger chili in the microwave wait that sentence doesn’t make sense moving down the house i created a simple living room and at the end two identical bedrooms using my floating bed

Design somehow purple works here don’t ask me how returning to the white concrete for now i find another very nice house small the smallest but nice this house was different than most however mainly in the ceiling i had discovered while building that the bottom side of looms looks incredible like look how

Clean of a texture this is it’s so good the image of the house has this weird blue bed thingy on the front lawn which i also tried to recreate can anyone tell me what this is is it like a tent or like a bed what what is that

I wanted to have at least one more house on this road this one was quite interesting as i only had a pretty low quality cgi image to work off of and i also attempted to downscale this build as well i didn’t want this build

To be as big as it was in the image which came with some interesting shape choices for the majority of this build it was all up to my brain since the image only gave me a general idea despite that i still think i did a very good job

Definitely not one of my favorites but definitely not the worst either you know what i don’t think i have a least favorite surprisingly even after all this time every building i had made so far was up to my standards now it’s time to create infrastructure i needed to create roads

So over the next 10 days i created my road design using cyan and yellow terracotta as the road and the site as a sidewalk and ditch and smooth stone as support beams for any parts of the road across the water originally i wasn’t going to half the

Road across this lake but i decided it would create a very nice setting especially with this lamp design i came up with for the water i began to connect my many roads together and began heading out towards the office and maul once i hit the office my road continued straight

Crossing the river and making its way towards the mall it was time for another bridge and i wanted it to curve towards the mall in the gentle arc i got the help of an old friend the minecraft circle generator which i had used on skyblock and using some basic math

I created this circular road perfectly finally came to stop it right at the mall and then proceeded to create the first parking lot of the world i honestly don’t know how long this would have taken without the slash trail command where would that be without it once the

Roads were done it was time for driveways and parking lots i actually lost the time lapse footage of me doing this due to a damn power outage but i created a private driveway up to the first house i had ever built on this world kind of ironic how the first house i’ve

Built in this world was the farthest house away from everything else after i was done the driveways and parking lots i wanted to do one last thing where i started the road i quickly built a little road block my plans for the city were now cemented in my mind

And i’m going to share them with you this little town of mine that i was building now would only be one part of the city across the water i would expand and build up a fully realized city as the days continued past 100. this roadblock would serve as a reminder to continue on

Cities are broken up into two parts mainly there’s residential and then there’s the downtown where all the skyscrapers and stuff are right now i was kind of building just a suburb or a neighborhood the residential area which is why there were very little tall buildings for the next five days i

Focused on lawns and backyards constructing speed boats barbecues and detailing the land with things like swing sets swimming pools lawn chairs and more now i did next was admittedly kind of random but also very fun for some reason i felt like i wanted to build a statue of myself

I thought it would look amazing in the center of this lake if i didn’t just want to build a classic statue i wanted to try to create something i had never even attempted to create before a stone sculpture of the lunatic cultist the terraria mini boss for which my skin depicts

This was the first time since 2013 on the xbox 360 edition that i’d ever even made any sort of statue and i think i did pretty well what do you think only two weeks left i wanted to build a couple more things before the final details

Before the end one of which was a gas station if people lived in this area and presumably worked here they needed gas alright i positioned the gas station just outside the mall a rather simple looking build compared to other creations of mine but it still had that modern feel to it

With the red concrete and the slabs i finished it off with a small convenience store to finish the gas station look once i was done that i began decorating the empty parts of the town with small fountains new trees and tall grass now i only had time for one last house

The road near the mall was populated but only on one side i wanted to have something on the other side so i searched up one final house a house that ended up being another one of my favorites mainly due to its location one of the best views in this entire

Neighborhood for the remainder of the session i focused on finalizing the town by adding player head traffic lights stop signs and a few street lamps i also created a driveway to my favorite house since i had actually forgotten about it up to this point and with that

I took one last look at everything we had created traveling around my town on horseback using shaders to get a feel of what it would be like to actually live here i think we did an incredible job this place is everything i dreamed of it’s the perfect suburb i would live here

My speed potion ran out yeah i would live here i’m running all the street lights this is great just like real life except not because i actually am responsible on the road and that signifies the end of this video i hope you guys enjoyed it as much as i
