This local fisherman has taken me two hours out to sea there’s a deserted island right there all I have with me is a knife I’ve got no lighter no sleeping bag tent or even a hammock you know what I’ve got no food or water find out what Really happens on a deserted island by staying tuned until the end of the video yes oh Bit me oh look at them it’s like a desert island ice cream okay we’ve just stopped the engines we’ve just arrived at the island this is a big challenge for me no food no water all I have is one knife all right so I’m just wading through This water I’m trying to avoid standing on any sea urchins because the last thing I want right now is an accident now this is when reality kicks in just listen to how noisy it is we have made it to the island the last time I did this I did it for 24 hours And that was about three years ago in Southeast Asia I’m already sweating I’ve got no food remember I’ve got no water so the first thing I want to do right now is go and find me a coconut because you know what around this part of the world almost every island has got palm Trees with lots and lots of coconuts the question is can I find a palm tree low enough to the ground with a coconut I can either climb to poke a stick at or hope there’s one just lying on the ground and there’s the boat that dropped me off Ah wow okay let’s get real the first thing I want to do is find water and somewhere to find some food the next thing I want to do is build a shelter because you know there’s tropical storms here every single day pretty much every single day and from previous experience From being on deserted Islands I can tell you that when it rains in Southeast Asia it pours many people when they hear the word deserted island they think of paradise they think they think of white sand pristine beaches and no litter let me show you the harsh reality of being On a deserted island there is litter everywhere there’s a car tire there’s plastic bottles there’s a bit of polystyrene there’s Empty Bottle there with a bit of it doesn’t look too good it looks a bit yellow it smells good it’s so warm but you know what it’s a bit too early In the challenge to be drinking water that I found washed up on the beach it does have quite a nice sweet smell to it a little bit like lemonade but for now I’ll just leave it right here and loads more plastic bottles there’s glass bottles that could come in Useful later for boiling water what’s that it can ah I can’t get the lid off yeah just rubbish everywhere more glass bottles wrappers yes you know it’s not all about seeing litter plastic tires rubbish washed up they’re actually resources really good resources the bottles we can turn into Stills which means we can use the sun to evaporate sea water for that water to condense inside the bottle and that becomes fresh drinking water we’ll do a little bit of that later on There’s washed up coconut feels like it’s got water in it can you hear that oh interesting right well that is a bit of Stroke of Luck uh let’s hope it’s good sometimes with these old coconuts especially these old Browner ones the problem is the problem Is that they can go off and the the liquid can start to ferment so when you open them up you’ll get this Fizz they’re basically almost an alcoholic coconut okay that could be fun but I kind of want to keep my head straight because any small mistake could be the Difference between life and death however I will open this later on I’ll just make sure by smelling it and if it’s good to drink then hey I’ve got food until then I’ll put it somewhere and we’ll keep walking around the island to find if we can find any fresh ones look another tire Okay I’ve just walked past this and I was thinking actually I thought about this I did think that if I was to find a bit of net then what I could do with the net is if I’m able to it’s make a hammock ah all right I can’t seem to get that untangled So we’ll just keep walking this is the harsh reality of the plastic that we use in this world if you don’t recycle it if you don’t dispose of it properly it ends up on what meant to be beautiful pristine beaches so now they look like rubbish dumps No they’re a bit small for me not my color either and I prefer them in Black not pink oh look another one of those tins if I can get the lid off this this could be good for cooking food if I find anything to cook that is Whoa what is that oh Okay it’s not too bad could do the little clean little burn and it should be sterilized nice I’m gonna leave that with the coconut because as I mentioned earlier you know it’s not all about seeing rubbish it’s about seeing resources so that is a resource that we could definitely use later on Have a look at this Trail there’s a really strange Trail going all the way up I wonder what that could be oh wait is that a footprint are they like toes oh wait is that an iguana so that could be there might be there probably is a giant iguana on this island right Hey hey now we’re talking now we’re talking yes oh look at it look at it now those are made to fit those are made to fit right where’s the other one ah now that I don’t think I’m even gonna bother opening the bottle because I think and I Think you know as well what this is so we’ll just leave that right there oh my flip-flops falling apart already I’ve only just got them what is this there’s a light bulb why would there be a light bulb washed up on a beach what’s this milk powder So milk powder what’s this bottle of Baileys is that Baileys hey oh oh that smells good oh it’s Bailey’s it’s actually Bailey’s no is that Bailey’s I don’t know hey all right so so far we found a cooking tin we found a coconut we found one flip-flop We found some Baileys yeah so maybe we will have a party tonight look how thick that bamboo is what’s this it’s another flip-flop no I could get a bit of the string ah well I’ve got a thorn ah I’ve got thorns in my feet what are these they smell like fish Oh it stinks around here smells like something’s died look it’s like there’s prints there there so I I’m not I really have no idea but I can only think that it’s a giant iguana more glass bottles a crate some more rope wrapped around must been washed up from A big Pride wrapped around that tree so I’ve only done this one section of beets I’m gonna go around this little point and there should be Beach off the beach off the beach so the plan for the next three days is to keep moving all I’m Going to do is build a camp sleep move the next day fill the camp sleep as I mentioned my priorities now are to find food and water I also want to build a shelter and if I get time I want a light of fire okay I’ve just spotted Something that could be really useful for catching fish actually before we get to that let’s see what have we got no no that is an actual fish scale right there what I’m really hoping is is that I can salvage some of this net and maybe make A small net to put out and catch some fish that’s if I can untangle it what what is that on some broken glass I was a tire another tire why are there so many tires on this beach coffee coffee no empty another coconut there all right sorry the camera fell over Yeah I just found another coconut oh another shoe I need a left foot not a right footer quite nice though let’s try it nice a little bit too small for me lots more bamboo I mean look how thick that bamboo is I’ve never seen bamboo as thick as this look at it Oh that’s heavy oh wait a shoe what we got please be left foot now look how thick this bamboo is wow and look how dark and scary it looks in there but you know what I’m gonna leave the beach I’m probably gonna either go through there we’ll head along The Rocks find the next Beach but I do want to go and explore Inland before I start setting up camp and as much as I’d like to have done this barefooted I’ve actually brought my shoes because trust me there’s no way I could do this without shoes all right So I’m gonna now show you what I have in my bag first of all I’ve got my drone shoes because I could not do this without a pair of shoes and then my second to last item is this this charges batteries without this I wouldn’t be able to document what’s going on by Recording it onto my GoPro and my final item this is my knife this is going to build Me Shelter this is going to open coconuts without this I would really struggle to survive on an island so if you’re wondering what sort of animals are on this island Well as far as I know there are giant pythons as thick as your thigh there are king cobras there are a few other snakes which aren’t venomous and I think if you are and there there’s monkeys I think they’re called macaques there’s giant spiders oh a coconut a coconut tree oh that’s Way too high to get that’s way too cool I need a really if I can find a really long bit of bamboo then that could help me no empty right so this is the sort of thing you really don’t want to be stepping on because that’s where the snakes live what are these What are these some sort of nut what that is huh oh it looks good doesn’t it looks good but you know what I’m only eating what I know I can eat as much as I’d love to eat that I’m not oh whoa that was a big spider [Applause] oh is that a monkey I’ll get off ah oh it is hot it’s so hot oh what is this oh it looks like fresh drinking water doesn’t smell very good look how clean it looks in there that’s a really nice bottle that is actually a really really good find because I could boil right it’s got Plastic bottom but I guess we could remove this and it should be metal underneath perfect you know what that there that there could be really good for sterilizing water I might keep that so as I was walking around the beach I noticed a lot of clams just here washed up in fact it’s Low tide now so they’re all trying to I guess they’re all trying to get back into the deeper water or even bury themselves into the sand and the good thing is that is now food for me right I think I’ve just found a really good way to collect clams okay so Let’s find an area where there’s no clams for example there I can’t see any clams but now if I disturb the sand mix it about what happens is look there’s one five look at all those I just collected look how many I just got in about three minutes I think this is the fluff that comes out of K-pop seeds so I’m going to take some of this I think it’s going to be great for fire lighting later these are the seed pods and all that white fluff just falls out of it so it’s mid-afternoon I’ve come slightly Inland from the beach and I’ve just found a palm tree this is a banana Palm the reason for cutting it down is because there’s food in that tree that I need right now oh I’ve only been here a few hours and the jungle’s already trying to take me What we want to do is get to the middle of this that’s what gives it the name the heart of palm the outer bits are a bit fibrous and not very tasty and I didn’t realize but it was actually there was actually two of these banana trees wow Growing right next to each other so I’ve taken down one tree and I’ve left the other tree and there it is it might look very destructive taking down a tree like that or a plant like that but trust me there’s loads of these everywhere they grow like a weed and this is exactly What we’re after no watch this it’s really stringy it looks like it’s got spider webs cobwebs watch this and it’s lovely um so if you want to know what it tastes like it doesn’t taste bitter it’s got a slight sharpness to it but nothing unpleasant so sort of thing could eat All day every day it could do with a bit of dip but hey you know you can’t complain when you’re on a deserted island but it’s a good start we know there’s plenty of these around and there’s plenty of coconuts there’s clams on the beach we’re only a couple of Hours in let’s see what else we can find or explore on the island I’m dripping look at this I wonder what that is on the beach there’s plenty of rope washed up rope fishing line string all sorts I want to show you one more use When it comes to the banana tree so I’ve got one of these leaves I’m now just taking off the outer fibers you can see they’re quite thin but they’re really strong now if I fold it about halfway and start to twist what you’ll see are these fibers twists Together and soon when I Kink it like that it’s all going to start twisting into one piece of rope or string it’s what we call cordage now let me just speed things up and this is it about 15 seconds later if I hold my hand there you should be able To see I’ve made a little bit of string or Twisted twine like that this is now super strong but you might think okay that’s a bit short what could you use it for well this string is as long as you want to make it and what I mean by that is that If I was to continue going and get to the bottom of this it means I’d have this length being twisted and then this end nothing there at all in order to add a length of string what you do is you get some more of these fibers And then you strip off the good layer from the bad layer which means that you end up with just clean fibers I’m dripping sweat everywhere right where was I because so hot it’s so hard to concentrate so I’ve got this string I’ve made that you know this Could be used for things like trapping for fishing for shelter building but in order to to continue the length and make it longer what you do is you get another piece of this this material which is the um the Banana Leaf fibers and then you just twist it in right up So now we’ve we’ve locked in we’ve locked in our third length what we have to do now is add another piece there to make it our fourth length well actually you only want two pieces at a time when you’re twisting hey long story short banana trees aren’t just good for Bananas you can make string you can use them for fire lighting for shelter building you can use them for cooking and they even provide you with food without even producing a banana right enough about banana trees let’s continue check this tree out watch this watch these leaves touch them they curl up Look just some touching them that’s nuts watch that leaf there it looks like I found a dried up stream and what is that Made it back to the beach I’ve got two options now one option is I look for materials to create a fire remember I’ve got no matches I’ve got no I’ve only got a knife with me that’s all I’ve got so I either make a fire or And that’s going to take a bit of time finding the materials and the other option is I build a shelter okay do I do spend the next hour looking for materials to create a fire in order to cook well they got like 15 20 25 clams Or do I put my energy into building a shelter so fire or shelter I think I’ll go with shelter I’ll eat some more heart of palm and I’ll drink coconut water and I’ll eat coconuts and then I’ll spend a few hours tomorrow looking for the materials to make fire And what I plan on doing for fire lighting is I’m going to do Bow drill that’s when you rub stick on stick it creates friction it creates smoke it creates dust the glowing Ember that you want to put into a Tinder bundle and blow into a flame Tinder bundle wise Well coconut husk is great when it comes to Tinder bundles wood well I know my Woods in the UK I don’t know my tropical woods so it’s going to take me a lot longer than it would do if I was back in the UK because I’m gonna have to Source The materials I’m gonna have to find dry materials but different species because I don’t know what species of trees work well in this country where I come from in England there’s certain trees that you can use for fire Lighting in fact there’s quite a few it just comes down To the right combinations I’m on a tropical island I don’t know those combinations so I have to spend a lot of time working them out to find out which one works foreign [Applause] yes this one is filled to the brim with water I can’t hear any water but I can Really feel that there’s a lot of weight in this which means there’s got to be a lot of water yes another coconut there’s a bit of a clearing right here as usual there’s rubbish plastic bottles litter net rope everywhere but those are resources those are materials that we’re Going to need I do need a bit of rope for shelter building it’s like a big puzzle oh ah ow look at this bamboo covered in barnacles crazy hey this could come in useful yes right all I need now is a bit of rope then what I’ll do is I’ll use those Palm Leaves I’ll place them like that so then it becomes a bit of a lean-to shelter look at it all right so I’ve probably got about three hours left of sunlight wow okay I don’t know why I’m smiling or celebrating but it’s the reality of being on this Island all alone so here I am all on my own on this deserted island there’s no other humans on this island there’s no houses electricity nothing at all the only thing that I have to save me from dying on this island is the boat driver’s word and if he doesn’t come Back then I’m in big trouble I even paid him half the money in advance yes rope I’m gonna need that foreign Foreign Well that’s me for tonight it should do the job hopefully it won’t rain but if it does then the majority of the rain is going to be diverted away from me it’s going to run down these leaves and towards the back of the shelter I could really do is something to lay on The floor something soft to sleep on the only thing I can think of are these but that means that to climb the tree and I’m not very good at climbing trees okay so with the shelter built I’m gonna go for a quick dip because I’m sorry I’ve been sweating all day long maybe if I find a bit of fresh water tomorrow I can give my t-shirt a good clean there’s a beach further down there that I think I would like to get to tomorrow it looks like a nice Beach could be a Nice place to make a camp there might be better materials for building a shelter so I struggle to get those fresh Palm leaves in order to in order to use for bedding but tomorrow I’ll try and make a better shelter but what I did find earlier on Are a few of these mangoes and it was only when I got back and replayed the footage on my on my camera here that the microphone wasn’t working so yeah I found a mango tree plenty plenty of mangoes and then for dinner I’ve also got I’ve got one coconut In fact I’m gonna throw those clams back into the sea because I don’t have a I don’t have any way of creating fire tonight I put all my energy into the shelter so until then I’m gonna eat my mangoes I’m gonna go for a dip Look at that mmm that is the tastiest mango I’ve ever had so juicy so good it’s a shame the stones are a bit big that’s amazing that was good so this is my bed for tonight got some coconut leaves and then I’ve got my pillow which is my Backpack I’m really hoping it doesn’t rain I’ve got plenty of room in there so if it rains I’ll just kind of scoot to the back it’s a good night and see you in the morning Well good morning you’re probably wondering how I slept well as you can imagine not too great but tonight I’m gonna improve my shelter on a different location of the island hopefully find somewhere a bit better with a few more resources stick and this is my breakfast oh I’m so thirsty right now ah That coconut that coconut didn’t have much in it much liquid and I’m still thirsty so I’m going to save that I’m gonna eat the coconut and I just need some more to drink I’m so thirsty right now so when you open coconuts you want to You want to kind of try and create a bit of a a bit of a point on the top once you get to that stage you just simply need to take the top off oh so yeah plans for today I want to move I want to explore the Island a bit more on a walk down along the Rocks around the point I want to see what’s on the other side we might be able to find a different Beach more resources than there might be a crate of beer washed up hey you never know this this Island’s throwing up all Sorts of surprises so far I’ll show you how I slept last night what’s that like this is my head against the tree and it wasn’t actually too bad I’m glad it didn’t rain I mean there are still a few holes in the roof but it would have caught and diverted The majority of the rain Fresh lovely fresh coconut Um so I found this shell on the beach and it seems to work really well when it comes to scooping out the flesh Oh look at that it’s like an ice cream scoop of coconut fresh coconut oh yeah just what I need right now oh don’t drop it oh look at that yes All right I think it’s time to leave this Camp leave this beach the coconut water the coconut meat that has just brought me back to life day two deserted island what I want to do today is create another shelter make fire and hopefully cook up a warm meal for tonight so on That note see you later little coconut Camp that’s what I call it coconut camp um why am I leaving it up well because in case Tom Hanks washes up here one day and films another episode of Castaway then at least he hasn’t got that much shelter building to do so I’m gonna have To do a lot of climbing over rocks today because as you saw when we came in on the boat there’s rocks everywhere and it’s hard to walk around the coast because I feel like a mountain goat that’s just eaten a bounty wow look at these sand fleas whatever they are what are they Yeah you can tell it’s low tide because all of these little I don’t know what they are they look like limpets No in fact they look like mini oysters so these mini oysters were all exposed at low tide they could be really good fishing bait In fact I know I I know for a fact these will be good fishing bait but I don’t have anything to use for fishing What is that fantastic enough feels like a shell that’s some sort of shell look well look at that look at that little shell there and a bit of coral there must be a coral there must be a wreath out there coral reef get that crab hole nice piece of bamboo and coconuts Come on oh it’s a lot tougher than it looks everything is hard work and it’s still only about set half of seven in the morning and look I’m just sweating oh no broke it well I got one I managed to get one out of that tree and it almost hit me on the Head This Is A Dangerous Game Right there oh well it’s taking a beating where it fell on the rock Yeah oh yeah you know if it wasn’t for the Coconuts it’d be very difficult to survive on this island this I haven’t found any fresh drinking water look at this beat this is amazing so the first thing you do when you when you walk around the corner find a new beach Is look at what materials they have washed up what’s this some sort of net oh so really small you can make her a net from that lots of coconut the good thing about last night about where I camped well although I did Count below a few Coconut trees I was very aware when I when I built the camp last night of the dangers of falling coconuts But I wasn’t too worried because the majority of the trees were out at an angle like that and I was camped underneath so well maybe I was just lucky I didn’t get hit by a coconut so I’m like hole in the bush let’s have a look what’s in here there’s like coconut graveyard Bottles shoes more bottles wow almost tripped over what’s that yeah now this looks like Cobra country to me remember there are giant pythons and there are king cobras there are scorpions and there’s all sorts of things out to get you like this it doesn’t ah everything on the island is just out to Get you everything’s got Thorns if you walk into that the wrong way like that way is okay but you walk that way oh as I just found out I’ve only been awake about an hour again the Island’s trying to get me see a bit of a cloudy day today Look at those trees look how many coconuts are in these trees right so could I build a camp here that is the question it’s still early I’ve got all day to work out where to go where to Camp I might explore a bit more I don’t know I’ve got a good feeling about this but one thing I’ve been thinking about for a few days is and that being leading up to this challenge it’s the idea of making a hammock from some fishing net but I think it’s one of those things where you think yeah yeah I’ll find a Bit fishing net on the island and you get there and there’s no fishing net uh yeah there’s something there though it’s all Tangled oh no it’s all tangled wow look at those roots look at that tree it’s just gripped hold of that rock and the roots are coming down It’s a nice few resources right there well just one really that big long stick could be good for shelters Nice found another coconut didn’t even have to work for that one that was free thank you so it’s always a bonus when you get something for free in life isn’t it especially when you’re on a deserted island so yeah Mother Nature thank you very much oh could that be another coconut Oh oh I think it might be I think it might be uh no it isn’t it’s been washed up right oh it’s all good I’ve got a coconut in the bag I’ve got a coconut in my hand can I listen to those crickets whatever they are it sounds like a squeaky tap nope Bamboo Bamboo look at that really thick rope now that is a very useful resource so I think I’ve just found someone to sleep I found some really thick rope but yeah I’m pretty convinced that this is the beach to be on uh there’s great resources I can still walk back I can get to where the palm tree well the banana perms are I can get back to where the mango is it’s probably about another it’s probably about 40 40 minutes back there’s lots and lots of of uh coconuts so I think it makes sense to Start working now working on the camp look at that already just sweating again it’s probably about eight o’clock but it’s nice and cool compared to what it’s like two or three in the afternoon so I’m thinking now to start building my camp calling this base and then I can work on The rest of the tasks throughout the day and one thing I do want to do is I’m going to show you how to turn salt water into drinking water using the Sun but it is a bit cloudy so hopefully it goes a bit Sunny later on which means I can get some actual Drinking water rather than just coconut water but there’s nothing wrong with coconut water as long as you’re not drinking it for say five to seven days because otherwise you begin to get diarrhea I want to sleep on this I’m trying to create a bed So I want it to be as smooth as possible yes there’s a bit of fishing line here fishing net but I just need some of this rope for the moment just pull this bamboo out of that bush and look at what I just found on the beach it’s a sea urchin But why is it on the beach I’ll tell you what I’m moving that because if I stand on that later on I’m in trouble all right sounds like they’re all laughing at me look at this it’s a coconut and that’s Fallen landed in here and it’s already started to shoot That this is what I mean start to shoot as in sprout so these are no good for eating don’t let but what I do want are a few of these through these branches I’ve got a little idea one more and the third okay Moment of Truth it’s holding it’s holding oh This is what half an hour of work can create basically a raised platform because I need to get off the ground oh look at it look at it oh it’s actually not too bad that’s made me really happy knowing that tonight I’ve got something to look forward to By not sleeping on the ground and that’s my view looking up so maybe I should think about a roof but for the moment I’m just gonna chill because that took a lot of energy and I need another drink I might open a coconut I’m happy with the bed The roof needs a few more layers but yeah I’m actually looking forward to lying in that tonight because it’s going to be super comfortable so there’s loads of fishing line all tangled up in this so uh I’m gonna untangle it and see if there’s anything on the end I could use No way look it’s actually got a hook on it oh look at that really old rusty hook it’s quite fragile oh no I broke it it was so fragile it wouldn’t have done anything I wonder if I can bend that into a hook but it’s probably just going to break again Ah broken right let’s see if there’s another one yes another hook another hook a bit Rusty but not as bad as the other one right yes okay okay okay right the game has changed uh we’re gonna make a fishing rod well actually let’s see how much line I’ve got so I’ve managed to save that much about well I don’t know what a meter and a half let’s see how much I can save from this and then I’m gonna get some bamboo that’s it a length of bamboo and fishing line and even if I don’t Have enough fishing line as long as I’ve got this bit for the end which is almost invisible as long as I’ve got that bit for the end I can I can use anything from just rope washed up on the beach more rope there more rope there Yes I think we can do this because as long as we don’t lose the hook Oh it’s so hot I need I need another coconut I’ve had five so far And I’ve been here just under 24 hours hopefully that knot will hold you not believe what I’ve just found the world’s longest piece of bamboo look how long this thing is hold on I’m not even at the back hold on look at this oh there’s my fishing rod All right I’m gonna try again I’m gonna try and use it to get coconut oh no I broke it oh so because it bent and it broke I had to trim it down and I’ve ended up with that kind of shape and I’m thinking that could actually be really useful because the Coconuts Because the Coconuts they hang by this quite thin it’s like a stem so my new tactic in theory if I come along like this and put a lot of pressure on it you know what I mean hey let’s try it Oh that’s a heavy one got coconut ah yes oh so the reason why I don’t normally take all of the husk off is because it’s actually really hard work is the beginning of the mouth so now I just need to get a stick like a bit of bamboo Like that and then make the hole and what I’m going to do as well is only for this demonstration is just open up one of these eyes because it’s going to allow the liquid to flow a lot quicker look at that ah that’s so good oh so refreshing and now to open the Coconut one strike sideways and we’re gonna see a lot we’re going to see that this meat is a lot thicker than the other coconuts we’ve been opening look at that beautiful that’s because it’s a much older coconut there’s a crab there’s two crabs under there ah I need this crab for bait I need this crab I need that crab I need that crab that crab’s mine I need that crab he’s buried himself ah I think I’ve got my yes I got bait I got bait I’m gonna cut this in half put half on the hook and save the other half for later hit me Yes and you can see the water’s really shallow at the moment the tide is coming in so by the time it’s high tide there should be an at least another two or three meters on top of this and as soon as I see the rod bending or going a bit Crazy I’m going to run over lift it up and hopefully we’ll have a fish fish we got bite we got bite we got a fish no way look at it ah yes we got a fish guys come on oh where’s my knife yes we’ve got fish loads of meat on that Well kind of and then a fish head we could use that for bait what’s the bait looking like oh still good still good still good yes it’s that mango that looks like a mango is this a mango tree no look at that I could use that to sharpen my knife mango mango That’s a mango mangoes mangoes you know what I’ve just found a mango tree ah yeah look mangoes look there look at them oh missed again and it got stuck in the tree yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah look mango mango mango so it looks like we’re having mango and fish for dinner I think the monkeys have had them all oh there’s a good one there nice one there yeah yes oh perfect as well so this is my food so far I’ve got three coconuts I’ve got another one about 50 meters that way which I’ve left on the Rock I’ve got five mangoes a fish pretty much an unlimited supply of coconuts wow that is so good it’s like a desert island ice cream I just found some charcoal on the beach foreign folks let me introduce you to my new mate Coco he’s half Palm half coconut with a Little bit of charcoal he’s a great guy not very talkative he’s got the worst stories ever Dry oh Hello it’s getting attacked by like four bees wasps whatever they were go away oh Okay so I’m about to make a solar still what I’m going to do is well what I’ve done so far is I’ve taken a bottle I’ve taken the lid off leaving me with the bottom half of the bottle now I need a larger bottle and the idea of this is to turn salt Water from the sea into fresh drinking water using the Sun and two plastic bottles now as I’m folding some half in on itself so I’ve got that bottle I’ve folded the bottom half in well not the half but the bottom part of it and all I need to do now is fill this Up with sea water all right so I’m going to fill this up with as much as I can okay so I’ve actually just emptied a little bit water out because there’s a little bit too much of the sea water in there so that is our solar still Let me tell you how it works well there’s a bit of shade at the moment however shortly the sun will be back out again this works by the water on the inside becomes warmed it starts to evaporate condensation forms on the inside of the plastic bottle now remember folding the Base up well that’s now going to act as a trap so when droplets of condensation form on the inside of the bottle they’ll drip down the wall and they’ll be caught within that folded area at the bottom that is how a solar spill works Oh so a fish jump it’s flat calm at the moment it’s flat calm just waiting for another fish and the sun’s probably going to go down in two hours maybe two hours of sunlight it’s strange how I call that fish Within wait it was like maybe within 15 minutes And since then it’s been out for about a good five hours at least and nothing it’s been a long day if one of those fell down right now and hit me on the head I would be I’ll be dead foreign that took me a while to finish oh yeah Okay so I’ve got a little experiment on this project I’ve got that fish head and I’ve got a plastic bottle I’ve taken the top off the bottle I want to see if I can catch some of these crabs because at night time there’s crabs that run around all over this beach For example there you can see that’s where one crab lives so the experiment is to try and catch a crab and to do that I’ve got this plastic bottle which I’ve buried and there’s bait being the fish head I’m hoping that they’re going to come over they’re going to fall into the Trap But because it’s a plastic bottle I’m hoping that they won’t be able to climb back out because they won’t have any grip on the inside of the plastic there’s only one way to find out and I’ve got plenty of time so why not right next up fire lighting I’ve Gathered a bit of this coconut husk these fibers because these are great when you pull out the fibers these fibers are great for fire lighting what you do is you fluff them up well you kind of need to do that with two hands you fluff them up and you end up With something like this so it looks like a little bird’s nest and what we’re going to do is we’re going to use these components and I’ve gathered a few shells from the beach because this is going to help us with the fire lighting so one two three four And then I’ve just got a little bit of this extra and then as soon as we get the flame we’re going to be putting on these dried sticks no lighters no matches no fire steel no tricks nothing just pure oh one other thing I need is string that might work Okay so I’ve got an idea I’m thinking about giving this a clean remember this we found on the beach yesterday well I want to give it a clean and maybe cook my food in it [Applause] so I’ve got four mango and now I’m going to put a load of Coconut in it then finally our fish see these guts these can all be kept for bait in fact I’m going to put those in that Crab Trap so I’ve just put the bait in the Crab Trap I walked over and I could hear a noise right there there’s a crab At the bottom of the Trap it worked all right so we’ve got our fish we’ve gutted it we’ve got mangoes we’ve got coconut and we have fish one more thing It’s cooking so I’ve got my bowl ready and my spoon will be that little shell I think once I’ve eaten I’m gonna head back to camp and by the way Camp is that way it’s only about 20 meters but I just wanted to be under this tree because I Was a lot more shade than there was over by the camp well I think it’s done there’s the fish looks nicely cooked oh it’s flaking up and here comes the coconut and the papaya I mean the mango sorry not the papaya oh look at it look at it well who would have thought I’ll be on a deserted island cooking up a fish curry with mango coconut fish and obviously coconut water let’s try the fish that just falls apart lovely that was a lovely bit of fish oh I’ll tell you what I’m tired because when it’s hot I just need to Drink I just need fluids I never really have an appetite when it’s hot how many coconuts have I had that’s the question um maybe nine maybe nine coconuts I’ve just been drinking so much but I’m still sweating my t-shirt’s still wet ah right I’m gonna finish this And I’m going to take you back to camp and say good night good night Coco and here it is here’s my little house I’ve got a bit of roof cover in case it rains there’s my raised bed I’m gonna put my bag there so my that’d be my pillow And then my feet there finally I can go to bed oh lovely I can’t even line my slide and go to sleep oh I’m so lucky right I’m gonna go to sleep I need to turn the camera off and the light off and I’ll see you in the morning good night That hurts that really hurts and I’ve lost my fishing rod all right I’ve just woken up there’s a noise I can’t work out what it is oh no ah some sort of like Komodo dragon two meters long ah that really got me what is that put it in the net whoa get out Of the net get out of the net get out the net laughs Video Information

I survived 100 hours on a deserted island with NO FOOD and NO WATER, catching and eating fish, coconuts, clams, and whatever else I was able to find or catch. The average daytime temperature was 37 degrees Celsius (98 Fahrenheit) which made every task challenging – shelter building, finding food, making fire, etc.
