Before we start to build, make sure to reduce your simulation distance to four, then load your world and go to the Nether and find the Soul Sand Valley biome. It can be tricky to find the right spot. You need to find a large lava lake with a high enough roof and minimal spawn-proofing required. To speed things up, make a copy of your world, then open your copy in creative mode, go to Chunkbase, and search for Soul Sand Valleys to find the perfect spot for your Ghast farm. We suggest using fire resistance potions during the build phase.
Once you have found the perfect spot, start by placing 30 glass blocks towards the center of the lava lake. Then, start placing scaffolding on the last glass block until you reach y level 70. Up here, use glass blocks to build a tiny enclosure around you. This will be your AFK spot. Take a couple of minutes to check the area around you and see if any mobs are spawning. You need to spawn-proof all the spots where mobs appear.
Alternatively, you can use FoxyNoTail’s add-on, which is linked in the description. His add-on creates a sphere, and the armor stand represents you on your AFK spot inside the green sphere. No mobs will spawn inside the green sphere, but they will spawn between the green and red spheres. That’s the area you need to make spawn-proof. Once you’ve spawn-proofed the area, you can break the armor stand.
On top of the scaffolding, place a double chest towards the center of the lava lake. On the backside of the chest, place a row of 33 hoppers pointing into the chest. The row of hoppers goes towards the center of the lava lake. Enclose everything with glass blocks and fill any gaps with glass blocks as well. Then, surround the last hopper with four slabs and repeat this step for the remaining three hoppers.
Now, crouch and place a rail on each of the surrounded hoppers. Pick a side and place three temporary blocks. On the temporary block above the rail, place a rail and a cart on it. Repeat this process for the remaining sides. Place seven temporary blocks on the hopper in the center of the platform. On top of the seventh block, place an observer and a slab on top of the observer. The observer arrow must point up. Then, place an observer that points down and a piston under the second observer. Place a glass block under the piston, and throw two tridents on top of the glass block.
Extend the center row of hoppers towards the lava lake by adding three more glass blocks. Now, it’s time to go back to the first row of glass blocks we’ve placed. At this spot, place a temporary block and an observer on top of it. The observer arrow should point towards the center of the platform. Remove the temporary block and place another observer that points towards the center. Then, place a piston under the second observer and a glass block under the piston. The piston will push the glass block down. Finally, throw two tridents on top of the glass block.
Congratulations! You’ve built the simple version of the Ghast farm. Now, let’s talk about the materials you’ll need for this version. You’ll need 64 temporary blocks, 84 glass blocks, about 168-178 scaffoldings, 2 chests, 41 hoppers, 16 slabs, 5 rails, 35 minecarts, 4 minecarts with hoppers, 2 observers, 1 piston, 2 tridents, 480 building blocks, 27 light blocks, 27 levers, and 27 activator rails.
But why stop at the simple version when you can expand it for even more resources? To expand the Ghast farm, follow the same steps as before, but this time, you’ll need more materials. For the expanded version, you’ll need 64 temporary blocks, 108 glass blocks, about 168-178 scaffoldings, 2 chests, 85 hoppers, 48 slabs, 13 rails, 105 minecarts, 12 minecarts with hoppers, 6 observers, 3 pistons, 6 tridents, 1440 building blocks, 81 light blocks, 81 levers, and 81 activator rails.
With the expanded Ghast farm, you can get up to 2000 Gunpowder and 1200 Ghast Tears each and every hour. It’s a game-changer and will save you from ever needing Gunpowder again. So go ahead and give it a try. Drop a comment and let us know how you like this farm. And don’t forget to join the Discord community for more amazing farms and tutorials.
