Insane Minecraft Launcher Revealed – You Won’t Believe #3!

Hey hey everybody it’s scott motto back for another minecraft video hope everybody’s having a great day guys i’m having a great day in this video we’re going to compare the top five launchers for minecraft and look at the features of each one as it compares to the other one all right

So we’re going to look at the official launcher from mojang look at curse forge from overwolf which was the twitch launcher but it’s now the curseforge launcher we’ll look at multimc which is from one of the developers that works at mojang on the official launcher but he developed multi-mc prior to

That job at mojang and he still develops it all right we’ll look at a ged launcher which is the youngest of the group here uh but it’s quite powerful in itself all right and we’ll look at the at launcher which has been around for quite a long time

And guys each one of these launchers is stable and trustworthy you need not worry about entering your account information in them these are not cracked launchers you do need to own minecraft to play each one of these uh none of these are cracked launchers don’t trust crack launchers with your information guys

It’s not free all right so let’s take a look at that first we’ll look at the mojang launcher which again is uh listed as the minecraft launcher uh in comparison to the regular windows 10 version so when you buy minecraft you will download this to uh initially play the game and it’s good

For playing vanilla versions of minecraft not so good for modded and i’ll point out why quickly but the good thing about it is it’s fully integrated into the mojang ecosystem now it has dungeons as well support so this is the unified launcher that’s playing uh all of the minecraft titles uh for java

This this uh video is about java stuff so for your installations you’re able to go through and browse any of the versions of minecraft that are available from mojang and install them as vanilla profiles and you’re also able to place snapshots it’s especially good for playing snapshots because

You can see embedded patch notes where you can get information on those so you can get my mojang news and all that kind of stuff inside of it and again you can play dungeons all right now its weakness is also you can do your skins you can

Manage your skins easily inside of here upload new ones select amongst the library of them and things like that all right it’s disadvantages and modded uh because if you uh play modded now for this and many of the other launchers it has its own version of java inside of it so you

Don’t need a system java necessarily if you’re going to play minecraft you just need to download the launcher and it’ll have java installed and configured already inside of it all right but if you’re going to play modded then you would need to install forge as a profile it would create a profile

In here that’s named the version of forge and then you would add your mods to that all right now that can get really hard to manage after a while if you have a bunch of forged profiles because this launcher tends to depend upon your system minecraft folder all right and that’s

Located in a percent app data percent right here okay and so that’s going to have all of your profiles and versions inside of it unless you separate them now we’ll have your versions for sure um but other mods tend to put data in here too like some of the persistent

Stuff like persistent from astral sorcery or persistent from psi so this is your system minecraft folder and if you install a bunch of forge inside of there then it can get confusing now another thing that’s confusing is if you install optifine it’ll create its own profile in here for optifine

But not run it as a mod all right optivine is normally uh or can be used as a mod a forge or fabric mod but the way that optifine installs in here it patches minecraft itself and so that’s an unusual way of doing it so generally modded is not the best

Place to play this sorry but you can now filter for modded profiles if you have them alright again it’s good for snapshots because it will let you play the latest release right from a button it’ll let you play the latest snapshot right from a button once you have the snapshots enabled okay

But again it tends to put those into that minecraft folder under version so once you install new snapshots it’ll leave the old ones on there and you need to get rid of those another thing to quickly mention is that you want to separate the game directories because one of the disadvantages and

Really silly things about that launcher is that it once about the minecraft launcher is that it wants to put all your saves in the global saves folder that’s not good if you’re playing a bunch of different minecrafts same thing with mods it wants to put them all into a central folder and you

Can see some mods will put their stuff in this folder some of the data um and the folder can get to be a mess after a while and you can get confused with worlds that won’t launch if you have different mods from different versions different resource packs different all

Of that so generally you want to keep your profile separate from each other by creating a separate game directory out on your disc somewhere i use a folder in documents that’s called mojang launcher profiles that i put all my profiles in and that’s a good practice to keep these separated from each other

But otherwise very solid launcher it’s small in size if we look at it out on disk its size is basically three megs in size when it’s running memory wise it’s using um 99.4 megs about 100 megs so not too bad it’s it’s gotten much better over time uh as patrick’s

Came on to develop it and of course the other members of the mojang team as well so it’s a very solid launcher and you’ll want it on your system just to play minecraft now it will do microsoft and mojang accounts as well and of course we’ll all be rolling into

Microsoft accounts eventually and it would come here um maybe not first but you know very soon all right so let that is the minecraft launcher right now let’s take a look at the curse forge launcher all right and again cursed forge used to be the twitch launcher at first it was cursed

Forged then it was twitch now it’s cursed forged again twitch had it and they had a bad reputation for the launcher because it had a lot of problems in it it was very bloated but i’m happy to announce that overwolf has taken that over and they’ve streamlined the

Launcher getting back to how it was in the old days and adding some new features to it and it’s very stable and and pretty uh sleek and useful launcher at this point all right so the advantage of the curse forged launcher is that it is tied directly to the curseforge website which is

Mainly the official site for mods for minecraft all right so if you go to curseforge uh overwolf purchased cursed forge along with the launcher and so you’re able to get your mods and stuff from here but within the launcher itself uh and other launchers that support mods they’re drawing from curseforge so

You’re easily able to browse the online mod packs add them directly update them directly within the launcher and manage them as profiles you’re also able to create custom profiles you can either import zip files that you have you could download those on the curse forge site or you can export and import

Your own profiles that you made or create new ones so just create a profile name select your minecraft version it’ll install forge now a disadvantage of this launcher is that it doesn’t natively support fabric all right it can load some fabric mod packs inside of it like all the fabric but they have

To use this mod called jump loader that basically skips the forged loading process it’s a forged mod but it skips the forge stuff and loads fabric all right so that’s kind of a workaround for people that are putting uh fabric mod packs on curse forge and you can’t

Play them inside the launcher but they’re played with jump loader right you probably wouldn’t notice the difference overall so this launcher has a major advantage in creating your own mod packs that are directly tied in with curse forge all right directly tied in so you go through and you make your own my

Pack then you’re able to go through and select different versions of the mods read the mod pages stuff like that add them to your pack and then export that pack to share on cursed forge with other people with your friends or whatever now it uses the embedded mojang launcher all right so

When you launch it it’s actually going to launch that same launcher that you see from mojang except it’s going to have a modded profile already set up for it and that’s the advantage to it so you need to log in here through minecraft with your mojang account or microsoft account i believe

I don’t have a microsoft account at this time but since this is the official launcher it probably would work i’m not sure let me know in the comments what you think so there’s some major advantages to this let’s look at its size overall and then i do want to mention

One additional thing about it that will come from that so it is actually known as the overwolf launcher although it’s branded curse forge and you can see the launcher itself is 99 megs so it’s about the same size as the other one but it has this other additional uh

Ones that it adds for a total of nearly 400 get 400 megs that it’s running but again that that’s not too bad on your system you can choose to uh close it when it launches the game all right but if you’re tight on memory you need to be aware of of launcher sizes

But it also runs this overwolf tray app along with it all right and that is from overwolf and it has an app store it can do overlays and stuff like that now unfortunately the app store stuff um because different from other launchers the curse forge launcher is a multi-game launcher not

Just minecraft but a bunch of other games that it can manage all right whereas the other ones we’re looking at are simply minecraft launchers so it has other widgets and stuff that are available but not much that applies to minecraft itself all right so you need to be aware of that

But you can choose in the settings for the launcher to exit curseforge and over wolf when you exit the launcher so overwolf will only be active when the launcher is active and that’s nice it does have its own embedded version of java that you can use here inside of it or

You can select a system java all right you can’t really get a custom java path without maybe some workarounds or whatever but you could choose to close the launcher when the game starts and all that to save yourself from memory but i’m very excited about this launcher because i think it’s gotten quite

Solid for what it does overall okay so that that’s something to keep in mind all right so let’s uh go ahead and close on that one and let’s look at multi-mc all right so multi-mc is a portable application by the way one of the disadvantages of curse forge is that

It is available only for mac and windows all right it is not available for linux at all has never been available for linux so that is one of its weaknesses that you cannot get it on leak on linux each one of these other launchers you can get on all three platforms mac

Windows and linux all right so multi-mc is kind of a power user launcher uh it is a portable application it does not put anything in your system start menus or anything like that it operates on itself so you’ll want to put it somewhere on the disk when you install it

That you uh can get to it now you can also have multiple versions of the launcher that are set up to different profiles that’s one of the reasons it’s a power user app uh so it’ll just have this multimc.exe and you can name it different things and

Run multiple versions of it all right so it’s a very small sleek powerful launcher now there’s some weird stuff about it now as i mentioned earlier the developer for this launcher also works at mojang on the official launcher so it’s as stable and it’s powerful and it actually has some of the early

Features that are being developed for the other one as well but you want to be in the development version of it if you want to see the full range of features you do that by going into settings and choosing the update channel here to be develop all right

And then once you do that you choose update to update the launcher and then you’re going to see all the newest features and there’s a lot of features that are in the development channel that don’t come into the main channel for quite a long time so

You can see now like if i add an instance i can go through and browse mod packs from all of the major services like twitch which is overwolf basically now but if i search for like all the mods then i can go through and add that mod pack directly inside multi-mc

I can choose ftb packs so i can get like direwolf the newest one inside of there i can get technic packs as well so it’s again supporting all the launchers uh you know just choose any technic pack and install it i get ftb legacy packs which are the old one

Prior to when they switched over and i can import zip files so if i again download something from curseforge or a friend shares to me or whatever i can import it there multimc has its own pac format so you can export mod packs so if you have a my pack that you’ve

Made you can export it but it creates its own format all right and that format is not importable by um most launchers a t launcher can import or outlaunch or can import it i’m not sure uh if gd launcher can or not but uh cursed forge i don’t believe can’t all right so

Again a lot of features that are nice inside of here and you can install forge and fabric directly inside of it so if you create a new instance like this and you right click on it choose edit instance then i’m able to install forge directly inside of it install fabric directly now

Of course you can’t have both of them they’re not you know compatible with running both together the disadvantage of this launcher is that you cannot install mods directly uh and to update mod packs and stuff you basically need to copy the instance like right click copy the instance

Install the new version of the modpack and then copy over your mods and settings and stuff again it’s kind of a power user um launcher in that way one of its major advantages is that you’re able to easily mod old versions of minecraft like beta 1.7.3 adding stuff to the minecraft jar

Itself rather than the mods folder which is how it’s done in the past so with this add to minecraft jar button you can go through and add mods directly to the minecraft jar which is how it was done in the past so it doesn’t support microsoft accounts

Yet it does use your regular mojang account but it will support them pedric certainly knows how to do it he just kind of operates on his own speed on rolling out certain features all right so there’s multi-mc very very powerful again it can be used in a very much a power

User way by having multi versions multiple versions of multimc actually let’s go ahead and look at the memory usage so a multi-mc instance is basically 4.7 uh mags on disk and in the task manager its memory usage is 15.4 so it’s really really small overall very very small

And efficient and that’s why i tend to use it on a daily basis to run mod packs that i’ve already developed and i just want to run them okay so that’s multi-mc all right so let’s take a look then at gd launcher all right again gd launcher is one of the newest launchers

Uh and it is available for mac windows and linux and uh it has a full feature set for all of those so on linux especially if you want to build your own mod packs and all that you’re probably going to be interested in this launcher now i’ve stripped down

This launcher a little bit to where it has mojang news and stuff for minecraft news i’ve turned all that off discord integration turn that off because i don’t want animations and stuff on the screen in background apps all right but you’re able to go through and easily play mod packs

Import my pack so let’s hit the plus sign here i can select a version to play vanilla it’ll do forge and fabric the newest version so it’ll even do snapshots of fabric which is nice you can browse on twitch for my packs so you can

Get all the major ones that you want and install them directly inside of there or you can again import zip files all right so i believe it’ll only do the twitch ones but you we could try it with multi-mc all right but if you go through and you create a new mod pack

Uh let’s go for instance and we’ll make it just a new forge one here uh choose the latest version of forge hit the arrow to install it name it what you want uh i’ll just name it test pack like such and it’ll go ahead and install forge for you uh

Download the game files all that it has an embedded version of java that is open jdk all right so if you go into your settings and you go under java you’ll see that now you could turn that off and browse for another java path if you wanted

But it does use open jdk for its installation all right so when i have installed there i can right click on it and choose manage and then see mods so this is the mods area i don’t have any mods added so i’ll go ahead and add a mod

And then it’ll show you all the mods on cursed forge right and then you can browse them by feature popularity all that kind of stuff and then you can get information embedded in a window so this is the sleekest uh graphical looking like the most modern looking

Browser overall and you can also go to the website page and all that kind of stuff but it’s actually the largest as well all right so let’s let’s take a look at that this is an electron app much i believe curseforge is two uh where it’s basically running

Chrome type web browser inside of it so let’s see let’s take a look at where it’s at this is overwolf yeah here’s gd launcher right here so on disk it’s a hundred or 99.4 megabytes on disk all right and then when it’s running it is let’s see 41 megs so not

Huge when it’s running uh you can see that you know it spawns a few processes when it’s running but if you’re on linux especially this is an excellent launcher and generally it’s an excellent launcher too and when you can export profiles as well so if you export a pack

It’ll export out to the curse forge format you can x you can import it into curse forge and i believe you could probably upload that pack to the curseforge website if you wanted to make it public as well all right so that is going to be and it supports microsoft accounts

In the beta version so you need to be sure that in your settings here that you’re in uh the beta channel it says at the bottom here uh somewhere let’s see preferred release channel beta alright so if you do beta then you’ll be able to log in with your

Microsoft accounts as well okay so there’s that one all right so finally then let’s take a look at the at launcher and the at launcher is like multi-mc in the sense that it’s a portable launcher okay so uh portable in the sense that everything’s contained with inside its folder you can

Have multiple versions it’s not in your start menu or anything like that but let’s take a look at it now the ad launcher has been around for quite a while it would run server packs and all that and it’s generally implements features first quicker than other launchers so it has

A microsoft account supported natively with inside of it and you’re able to create vanilla packs forged fabric just regular vanilla or even alpha beta packs that you can have along with it all right it has its own set of my packs that are unique to the launcher

But then you can also add curse forge packs along with it so you could go through and browse for cursed forge packs add them directly and a big advantage of this launcher is that you can install server packs inside of it so if you wanted to run local

Servers on your machine or prepare server packs test and prepare server packs or a deployment then this is an excellent launcher to do that inside of it you could play both the client a version and the server version and connect to them all right so it does allow you to create

Your own mypacks quite easily and go through for instance let’s do this forge pack right here so we’ll create a new instance just name it it’ll pull down forge i already have that so let’s just go ahead and take a look at it when i do it

Install it it’ll put it in the instances tab right here and so here’s the forge and then i can go through and choose to add mods to it all right it’ll bring up a browser at curse forge you can choose cursed forge or mod rent which mod rent

Is a site for fabric mods that’s growing uh i’ll do some future videos about that but you could choose your fabric mods from there if you wanted to as well all right and you just go through and add the mods and you can view information on them online it’ll take

You to the online page rather than an embedded browser which is generally just as useful so you can go through and manage and add your mods through there both forwards and fabric uh so quite nice all right so this is a nice launcher uh let’s look at its size

Uh see what we got size wise on disk okay so the launcher itself is 13.5 max so not bad let’s look at its memory usage uh it’s under the java platform here so it’s a java app and it is 539.6 megs all right is what it’s saying so that may be the java

Platform itself of course nothing’s loading along with that it does use its own launcher and multimc uses its own launcher uh whereas curseforge uses the official mojang one and of course mojang uses the official mojang one and gd launcher uses its own launcher as well okay

So those are just things to keep in mind but this one as far as memory usage appears to be the largest and how it’s doing so that’s just something to keep in mind anyway guys each one of these launchers is very stable and they all have kind of their

Strengths to them i personally use each one of these for different purposes i use curseforge to create my packs from and to test my packs and to prepare them for ones that i want to upload but of course you’re able to do that in the gd launcher as well

I use multi-mc to play multiple versions of different packs that i’ve already made and it’s kind of my day-to-day launcher where i store and organize all my different stuff because it’s portable see one of the things about like curse forge is that everything goes into one folder all right gd launcher

Everything goes into one folder multi mc and at launcher are able to be isolated with different versions of them thus portable applications okay whereas the mojang launcher is uh all in one folder but you can select separate you know profile folders that you want so to go into

You can select separate profile folders and stuff in here as well uh gd launcher is embedded in your system like kind of deep a little uh much like in your app data folder is where its folders are at launcher is self-contained multi-mc is self-contained curseforge i think depending upon how

You set it up but it is residing in your documents folder in curseforge and all that and then of course the uh official mojang launcher is inside your system folder in uh the app data but it’s also uh has versions of program files and and all that stuff as well anyway guys

This is going to just be a brief comparison between them they all have their strengths i’m not going to say one’s better than the other but as far as end usage of the one that i tend to fall back on for final usage of stuff it’s multi-mc
