Hello everyone my name is pick Soros and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide hope you guys are having a good day today we’re gonna work on a bit of an out-of-the-blue project I kind of had this idea a little while ago and wasn’t quite sure when we were gonna do it but I think it it might be about time to try out a one block high base in Minecraft we’re going to be working on a little kind of crawlspace base over in the castle and I’m thinking we’re probably going to model it after kind of rat tunnels and stuff that are going to be Spiraling around the castle here and they’re getting into all of the places that rats usually get into probably nibbling on the grain stores and drinking the beer and that kind of stuff but first of all a quick update on the progress of the nether hub because I have spent a little while now Painstakingly replacing a bunch of the stone slabs in here with sandstone ones and as you can see this whole thing now has a lot more of an old map kind of feel to it it feels a little bit more kind of parchment tea in terms of the Color and I think the smooth texture of the sandstone looks really really great compared to the old kind of tiled some stone slab texture now I still need to do a couple of bits and pieces underneath the arms of the compass and that’s taking the longest because we Have to remove all of the wool around here but I figured we’d probably better do that because otherwise if we’re coming in from one of the the arms of the the compass points over here in fact this is all going to be glass so you’re Gonna be able to walk all over this from basically any angle you’re still gonna be able to see underneath some of these as you go and so it was gonna look the best to color the minute with sandstone or maybe even use some other kind of darker block underneath there as to cast A shadow almost it would look pretty cool and considering that there is very little lighting used in this design so far I feel like that might look kind of interesting but then again I’ve already done it underneath a couple of these with sandstone anyway so I figure I Might as well continue as I have done already but yeah that is the progress on the nether hub so far and around the outside here we’re going to start dividing this up and goodness knows how I’m going to divide this into equal segments but I’m gonna try my best and We’re going to turn each of those segments into a little diorama of a Minecraft biome kind of collecting all of the different types of minecart biomes into this space and it’s going to expect a killer once it is done but for now we are going to return to founders Forge and we’re going to return to castle brimstone because what I want to do is set up a a neat little crawling base in there I’ve walked through the portal and the castle is being invaded but the infestation is not of rats it is of zombie pigman and these guys are an Absolute menace for a start their path finding tends to take them up the stairs here we’re like other zombies they knock down my doors and it is kind of annoying to me right now that they keep doing this because that’s that zombie behavior copied and pasted it over onto the Zombie pigmen and so I’m declaring war on these Pigman right now which is probably a bad idea but I can take them out one at a time using my bow and if they’ve taken damage before then they will end up oh here we go okay the army has reached the corridor For breach the breach has begun and is that an actual zombie down there as well how did that guy get down here oh oh dear okay I hit a lag spike there and it looks like the Pigman are coming for me now but a beat a hasty retreat into the Water column and hopefully they don’t follow me too quickly up here but man that was close to another death and if they end up coming up the water column they are probably going to follow me oh we dodged a bullet there I’m not expecting the zombie Pigman to hit quite So hard but then yeah that lag spike kind of caught up with me huh well like it or not I am going to have to come back down here into the dungeon area and finish the job maybe those people will have D spawned by now or maybe they will all still be Over here and still be kind of mad at me I want the gold and I also want access to this this is kind of the area where I want these rat tunnels to start and I put this together a little while ago just using a trapdoor and a lever here To close the trap door behind us if we want to just as a little test to see exactly how this whole setup would work and thanks to the Minecraft 1.14 crawling mechanic for want of a better word it’s a kind of it’s a mechanic that basically allows the player to stay in a Kind of horizontal formation in a horizontal pose I guess once they have been forced down into a space of that site using a trap door or alternatively by jumping down and gliding underneath a block like you can with alight row which is typically how I Done it in the past now you do look a little strange it is a little bit of a weird experience to be like gliding around underneath here and it definitely doesn’t work all that well in third person but in first person you could imagine that you are crawling around a Space like this metal get a solid style and crawling through vents and stuff like that and around here especially with this being a sort of medieval ish castle I was thinking we could do some kind of like some rat tunnels basically there we go let’s reattach this door There’s Dan Pigman so before we spend any time actually designing these rat tunnels oh gosh there is a group of pillagers over there killing my villages now this is what I did not want to happen in this update and that is why I have put all of the Dan there’s a patrol Leader over there as well I do not want a raid to start in this area this is why I put the trap doors on these villager holding cells to begin with yes times like these call for desperate measures get out I don’t want you now that we’ve Resolved that problem maybe we should go and inspect the damage over here we’ve definitely lost at least two villages from that top row and I’m pretty sure those guys were both farmers as well which kind of sucks dang it guys why do you have to spawn in the middle of Nowhere yep I think those were farmers they definitely had the composters in front of them well our IP and is that another pillager in there I’m pretty sure that’s another pillager in there yep I can hear him muttering you in there yeah I think not I think not Somehow seriously of all the places for them to spawn they had to spawn on this hilltop above my trading hall absolutely ridiculous well that probably means I need to put a roof on this team ultimately but never mind in the meantime yeah I needed to redo this trading hall Anyway but don’t tell the villagers that because I just saved their bacon I feel like I should get here oh the village just for that even though it was only a patrol so back to what I was saying we need to devise a few different ways that We can get in and out of these rat Warren’s before we end up actually building them and there are a few different methods of getting into one block hi spaces which we will try and figure out around here now for a start I’m going to build a little bit around Here with slabs and we’re going to yeah let’s let’s build thing like so and hopefully if we don’t have any other drops within this area maybe we need to cover this bit up as well let’s do that their water should flow directly into that hole over there Because that’s going to be the the point the path of least resistance so the idea is that we need to place it one block up and so I think water locking that slab there seems to have done the trick so that we’re underwater and then we need To start swimming yes there we go and that forces us down into the Crouch kind of formation so let’s create a little crouching area like that and then let’s try and swim directly over the hole here and continue going on the other side walk into the water block let’s get in Swimming formation it’s a little tricky to enter swimming formation right away but once you’re in it there you go so that could be an option we could have a kind of drain for the the water tiss to siphon down into and that still allows us to maintain our crouched crawling Position like that it’s not the most elegant thing but it does actually allow you a bit of a turn of speed if you’re using depth Strider boots so that’s that’s a nicer way that’s actually faster actually in a weird way I guess you are technically swimming but it’s Actually faster than crawling would be so that might be a nice candidate if we want to do something like that of course we have the option of a trapdoor which gets us down into the same position and the advantage of a trapdoor is that you don’t need something like Elektra which Was previously necessary to get in this crawling position that’s what a lot of players tended to do anyway so trapdoors seem like a good addition with the obvious disadvantage that you have to activate them once you get in them although I expect there are redstone weighs over automating that kind of Stuff as well you could probably put a tripwire hook up or press a button to activate it or something like that in the rat tunnels that I’ve already kind of started down in the the dungeon area of the castle where the nether portal is I basically have that set up so that the Lever closes the trapdoor behind you instead of you opening it with the lever just so that you could close it off and in theory prevent some baby zombies from chasing you down that passageway if you were quick enough now the thing about that trapdoor setup we have in the Castle is that the lever is directing a constant a redstone signal into the trapdoor it’s basically constantly powering the trapdoor and a trapdoors powered state is always open so this is currently closed when they are flat like that that counts as closed because they’re still meant to be Trapped doors that are open from above or below so a redstone signal will open them but it doesn’t just flip the trapdoors state if you see what I mean so if a trap door is already open a redstone signal won’t close it instead the redstone signal will keep it open And when the redstone signal goes away again that’s when it closes so for example if we’re using a setup like this as our entrance that trapdoor is currently registering as open as far as the game is concerned like it says open true there on the right-hand side of the Debug info and if we open that like so it’s technically it’s opening up this space to the player but the trapdoor technically counts as closed so if we won the trapdoor to close behind us we either have to right-click on it like so turning around and closing the trap door Behind us or we need to turn on a constant redstone signal to that trapdoor to keep it permanently open which is why the lever is there alternatively you could use something like a T flip-flop switch powering the block underneath here or powering any of the adjacent blocks connected to the Trapdoor that could cause it to become powered but that’s how you’re gonna have to do that speaking of redstone solutions another way of getting into an area that’s only one block high could be achieved with a piston or a sticky piston pushing a block down on top of the players head Which no longer ends up suffocating the player instead it pushes you down into that one block high crawl space and I wonder actually could we even achieve a half block high crawl space by putting a slab there already let’s find out because you can now Crouch to get into a One and a half block high space and then we can push down like that is that going to allow us to walk out underneath an area of slabs this high no that’s actually not it’s actually interfering with the player hitbox it’s not suffocating me in half a slab because That’s still not a full block and therefore players cannot be suffocated by it but it’s not allowing us to proceed any further no matter how hard I try to kind of push myself into this space it is not working out that way so I guess a full block is potentially our Limit unless maybe a trapdoor or something that isn’t a half block because technically you can walk directly underneath the trapdoor let’s give that a try let’s see if we replace these with trapdoors if we can now oh we can walk under that okay so we have now achieved A height that is even lower than a full block which also affords us some interesting decorative opportunities with the ceiling and the cool thing is I can mess around with these trapdoors I can open and close them and I’m still able to pass through them so it doesn’t Boost you up by a couple of pixels once the trapdoor is open you’re basically stuck in at this one block high state no matter what the block above you ends up being although obviously if we place another slab here you can’t get underneath that but that option definitely allows for some interesting Ways of getting in and out of these rat tunnels as far as the player is concerned and as far as a little bit of redstone trickery goes you could have something that comes out of the wall ends up pushing you down into the one block space you crawl away and then it Retracts into the wall like nothing was ever there that could be quite an interesting way of doing it of course there is always the alternative the way I’ve been used to doing this for the longest time of just jumping and hitting your Elektra as you go down and basically forcing yourself to glide Slightly into this one block high space which looks a little bit weird to the outside observer but is still a pretty solid method of doing it does of course rely on you having a light trow which might not be as accessible to players who are just starting out and want to Make a base of this kind but it’s also a pretty reliable way of getting into a one block high space so with all that covered I’m going to return to my storage room I’m gonna pick out some building materials I’m gonna get as far away from the villager trading Hall as I Possibly can in case another pillage of Patrol shows up and then we’re going to go to work building our little rat tunnels okay I’ve got some good plans brewing here and I hope you guys are gonna like this so we’re gonna keep this entrance down here but we’re actually going to Invert a couple of things about it I like simple as far as these designs go I think simple is going to work out a little bit better than over complicating things with redstone and potentially messing up the walls that we’ve got down here and all kinds of stuff like that I’m not entirely certain where some of these tunnels are going to bring us out but we’re lower down than the rest of the castle is for the most part we’re only out Y 58 but the castle is up on the surface a little bit more elevated Than this so we should have a lot of room to work with and what I want to do is turn this into what starts off looking like a sewer system so not the kind of place that human beings would really want to be looking and and have a Kind of water runoff down here and then that’s going to lead out into a larger complex of tunnels where the rats are already gonna make their home and the cool thing about this is that with a few blocks of ice we can waterlog these spaces here and we’re going to water Logs some slabs which is actually going to give us the option of running down here at high speed thanks to the fact that we have depth Strider boots now let’s start off by maybe alternating I want to say alternating a slab and trapdoor pan because we know we can get In at the trapdoor level here and that can also act as a kind of like a stopper back here if you like to make it look a little bit more like a sewer system starts here this can be sort of a valve maybe or something like that so we can Hop down into here but then once we’re down there we can actually get a running pace through the water with these slabs above our heads but what we can potentially do is alternate the trapdoor and slab pattern down here line the bottom of this tunnel with slabs and Make sure that it stays waterlogged the whole way down so we can probably just reproduce a water source here and here and here there we go and then that will allow us to to run down here at a breakneck speeds thanks to the fact that we have trapdoors and slabs above our heads Seriously the water is allowing you so much more freedom of movement than it is just crawling down this passage and that’s really going to help you feel if you want to get into character a little bit feel like a rat running around in the sewer system down Here so all you see was open that trap door like so we get into this space we take a tiny amount of damage there but we opened this trapdoor and then we get to run on through super fast and then we get to the end there that’s gonna mess Us up because I haven’t built anything further than this point but notice that we are technically speaking underwater here my head is underwater even if I like look up like this my breath meter is still depleting so ideally you don’t want this to go on for too long or you Want to have a helmet that’s going to allow you to negate that those effects either with respiration or with a turtle helmet that will give you water breathing or something like that I think think Ninja Turtles if we want to be down here in the sewer system I guess But while we’re down here what I actually want to do is work a little bit on the decoration of the sides here and I might actually want to put in like sea lanterns or something like that I brought some sea lanterns with me I think I’d pop them in the barrel at the End here so I could have a bit more storage space but thankfully these will now provide light thanks to the fact that slabs can let light through the transparent spaces in the slab models so now we should be able to put sea lanterns if we wanted to on either site Or we could use regular lanterns as well if we wanted to and we can space out the tunnel with these if we want a slightly brighter atmosphere we don’t have to worry about mob spawns down here because these are definitely not supportable spaces but that’s going to prevent it From having like torches and stuff in here if we don’t want that to be part of the effect speaking of lanterns by the way can I crawl underneath one of those yeah it doesn’t look like I can I think I am yeah definitely not able to crawl underneath that model that is definitely Coming down to be full yeah you know bottom of the block there that’s a shame but no worries we could probably put some of those in the walls in little kind of alcoves if we wanted to we could put them we could put them here instead Of the sea lanterns to give it a kind of recessed feel and definitely helps the place feel a little bit more cozy but what I actually want to do is make the rat den feel a little bit more sophisticated I kind of I like the idea of the rats almost being more Intelligent than the humans and having little areas where they have stored stuff down here think like a red wall book series or something like that the kind of like the the intelligent might the mice have actually kind of taken over their own portion of the castle but I got my still Touch good I have okay I’ll take the sea lanterns back out of here maybe we can pop some lanterns in the alcoves here as well I like the idea of them hanging from the ceiling as well instead of just resting them on tops of the blocks there I sort of like that more if anything and of course mixing in these mossy stone bricks here and there and actually using more mossy stone break than anything else right now is definitely going to give this a neat sewer like feel but as we go through here it could Get a little bit cleaner we can start mixing in some of the regular stone brick a little bit more and I like these kind of alternating sections of stone brick stairs water logged on either side to continue the illusion a little bit I like that that’s that’s kind of it’s Gonna work out pretty well you do need to water log these individually which is a little bit of a pain but the water won’t automatically flow into either side until you place it manually once it’s there though it will reform water sources on these slabs and you can water Log a little bit further down if you want to and if you want to do some neat stuff with this like changes in elevation it is still possible to do that if we take advantage of that trapdoor height keeping us in a crouched position whilst allowing us to move up And down the level is going to be really important for this so what we’re gonna do is come out of the water at the end here mostly to give myself a bit of breathing space if I’m honest and then put a spruce trapdoor up there and That’s gonna allow us to walk out into this space where we can go up a block here like so and we can still crawl into a space that is below a half slab height like that so now if we run down here we come up through this section with the Trapdoor and into a single block space at the end but we’ve gone up half a step and we can use that to actually create a kind of spiral staircase in here if we want to and of course I’ve just accidentally stood up the poops and if You want to keep moving up a level all you need to do is invert that same patent so what we’ve got here is a slab with a trapdoor above it then you can move up onto a trapdoor with a slab above it and then we get to spiral Around in this kind of spiral staircase formation like so and I want to do something about this transition here can we have the trapdoor one block lowered down okay we can so that means we can close that up or fill this full block in there and okay that’s perfect yes okay great And that’s perfect for rounding the corner here we can step up into another section with a trapdoor above our heads there and continue on around a corner creating a spiral staircase that’s going to take us upwards into another section of the castle if we’re feeling particularly cheeky about this we can Even include a pillar in the center here as though it was a spiral staircase with kind of a support beam in the middle I’m using barrels for that and I think that’s a a really nice little texture to use so we’re getting close to the surface With this right now and I have just heard something that is making me very very excited because I’ve not planned exactly where this staircase is going I don’t really have a good concept of where we’re at in the space but if I am right this is going to be a really Really great staircase for the rat tunnels to come out at now let’s see if we can go up a couple of steps from here let’s continue the pattern around this whole pattern has been working very well for me except on the rare occasion that I end up stepping out of it by mistake But if we close the top off like this I think we can actually have a trapdoor there in the ceiling and then have a slab there like so need to make sure that the central stairwell kind of thing remains intact with the barrels although those are difficult to place in the Right direction in such close quarters but that looks like jungle wood to me with some grass blocks underneath it which means yes oh those magma blocks confirm it we are right underneath the floorboards of the castle brewery oh this is great this is really great I’ve Never been so happy to be stuck in a sewer tunnel in my life because you know what that is a perfect place for the rats to go like I said the rats are coming up here to get into the brewery and get it all of the wheat and stuff That they have stored in there nibbling away at all of that stuff perfect perfect now let me see where we can I think we can get to the wall over here you know that seems like the best place to do it let’s drop a trapdoor here so We can squat back down again and I think yes if we if we continued the rat tunnel along in this direction we can break this one out and have a trap door there very good very good and we come out around the back of the brewery now this Is great and this actually kind of lead lends some credence to that being the entrance to the sewer as well now if we could have an entrance down here for example let’s knock a hole in the wall there and let’s see where that ends up on the opposite site because I was Planning on building maybe we can have a look a little outbuilding kind of thing on this side anyway still expanding the castle after all this time of the building it so funny but if we put in a kind of like outbuilding shed type of thing here then potentially we can conceal the fact That this rat entrance is here and that will give us a perfect place to have this tunnel go around in a circle and end up behind the wall of the brewery and that trap door there is going to conceal it a little bit from people who are just casually wandering around and That’s going to allow us to have our rats have the perfect access in here to get it all the goods that are being stored and there we go perfect you can barely see that from here like obviously when you walk into the brewery you look around you don’t really see that there Is a little cubby hole down here that the rats can sneak in and out of and we could always close it off with this trap door here as well if we want to perfect nobody will ever know it’s there that’s really really cool and now we can wander Back down into the rat tunnels we’ve got another little lantern here and we can probably firm up some of the fixtures around here just to make it look a little bit more organized down here the rats have been a building at ladies and gents they’ve been busy and these Barrels here could also act as storage for them but of course we could always just circle these stairs back down to the sewers and continue the base outwards from there let’s add in a few decorations to the walls here and there you can also add a little bit of depth By using stone brick and mossy stone brick walls now sorry I didn’t mean to let the fireworks off although I am pretty excited about this whole project I think this is deserving of a celebration it even leads out to these lower levels of the castle where if we Wanted to the brewery could have a cellar full of barrels and stuff like that I think that’s really really nice as a detail and I love the fact that we can just sprint through there as the kind of sewer rats might and then wander our way back up this winding staircase Into the brewery to nosh down on some of the tasty goodies that you might find inside hey this is great I really really like these tunnels and I think we could do more little projects like this around the castle here and there just to build the place out give The place a little bit more character I like it but I think that is where we’re going to wrap this project up a for today guys I like I like this design I think we can probably continue some of that another time but we are running Short on time for this episode so I’m just going to say that I hope you guys enjoy to this episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide hopefully this has given you a little
