Insane TNT Farm!

Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day and today as the logo fades away you will find we have built a lot more of this mountainside I say a lot more really not a lot more in the

Grand scheme of things but a lot more than we had before previously you can kind of see the line the cyma between the two sections of the mountain that we have just filled in we had a section there and then this section here and most of this section here were built

Recently and I’m a lot happier with these actually than I was with this one the first time around I really kind of hit my stride when it comes to the rock formation here and for a distance in some spots you actually lose some of the shadow of those blocks because the

Mountains curve here and there and I kind of like that in a way it kind of looks almost the way that mountains look in real life in the sense that there are large continuous rock faces instead of everything being made out of blocks like it is in Minecraft but I’m really happy

With this so far I hope you guys are liking the look of things I’ll show you a little bit from the air as well although flying up in the air and taking a look at these projects it’s always a reminder of exactly how much work I have

Taken on here and the reason for today’s episode or the subject I guess of today’s episode is going to be acquiring a little bit more material here because the amount of the mountain that I have done so far has amounted to let’s say four or five empty shell car boxes we

Got five here I think one of these was actually a dirt Shilka box originally but the other four have been stone and while I do still have about ten or eleven shelcha boxes here give or take this andesite one that are all filled with stone that is clearly not going to

Be enough to fill out the entirety of this mountain range it might be enough to finish this mountain here but there are definitely going to be many more mountains that we will want to build in this area so that we can perfect our ski resort look and I am concerned that

Digging it all out of the ground is going to take a lot of time that I could be spending grabbing more stone and adding more to these mountain sites so instead what I’m going to do is set up a long-term plan of having a cobblestone generator and super smelter here underneath one of

These mountains and the reason to build it around here even though the area is becoming increasingly dark thanks to all of the stuff that I’ve been building here the reason to have it here is really so that all of the machinery can operate in the meantime while I’m

Building stuff and I don’t have to go afk in a different part of the world in order to produce a bunch of stone so we’re going to make a cobblestone generator that’s going to provide cobblestone hopefully in massive quantities and from there we’re going to direct the output of that cobblestone

Generator into a large scaled smelter which will turn it all into smooth stone hopefully without me having to lift a finger once the thing is up and running and while there do exist a fantastic designs out there for cobblestone generators that you folks might want to

Look into if you want the most efficient thing in the world I’ve been tinkering with this in creative mode because I like to puzzle through this stuff myself instead of using other people’s designs and while I have seen snippets of other people’s methods here and there I really

Want to come up with something that I have designed myself and I think I’ve done a reasonable job of this so we’re gonna take the redstone Box checking that I have a decent amount of supplies in here I think at least as far as Pistons and note blocks and stuff that

We’re going to be using for this design we should be okay and we are going to make a start on making our cobblestone generator now one of the cool things about this cobblestone generator is it’s just going to rely on the usual mechanics of creating cobblestone by combining flowing water and flowing lava

Of course if you combine water and a lava source you would get obsidian so we need to avoid that as best we can but I have come up with some pretty neat ways of doing that and also partly thanks to contributions from people in the comments to my Skye blog series where

They brought up the fact that you can actually have a waterlogged block in there like a waterlogged stair and that will prevent the water from coming into contact directly with the lava source and flowing all over the place so we’re going to be using a bit of that in

Today’s episode but we’re going to primarily be looking at pistons and note blocks and observers for transferring some power around we’re going to need a little bit of redstone and some redstone torches as well and we’ll need some hoppers later on for the collection mechanism but for right now this is

Going to be pretty much it we will also make a TNT duplicate at some point but we have been through that in previous episodes so I’m not going to go through that in too much detail today here is one of the first things I want to cover in this video as

Part of the mechanism and it has to do with the way note blocks operate because note blocks can actually output a block state change detected by an observer when the block underneath them is pushed or pulled away and that is kind of a neat thing that we’re going to take

Advantage of for this design so I’ve got a sticky piston there I’ve got a a dark oak plank over the top of it and a couple of blocks above that we put a note block so there is an air gap here between the block that’s going to get

Pushed and the note block itself and if we put an observer here and I will add a sticky piston as an output just to show you the mechanism here what’s gonna happen is when we activate this piston this note block is going to change from having the usual like piano notes to

Having the bass guitar notes that it gets from the wood block and that’s actually going to show up as a block state change because it’s changing instrument so if we flick this lever a couple of times you will see the sticky piston over there activates because the observer is registering a block state

Change so this is something you can use to activate a whole bunch of note blocks at once instead of having to worry about them all being activated in sequence are using observers to detect it and go down the line for example if we were to chain these note blocks together like so using

Observers you’ll notice that there is a very slight delay between the notes being played whereas if we chained a bunch of Pistons together and have them all activate underneath note blocks like this that’s actually going to activate all of the note blocks at once and we’re

Going to use that to move a large pad of pistons we’re going to do this five blocks long so I’ve got one piston there I’m gonna add a four to the side there and we’re going to chain these note blocks along here and then from this

Lever or a power source that we’re going to take in a few seconds we’re going to actually we’ll probably leave those blocks there because we’ll be able to run the redstone dust along those and now the redstone dust powering these blocks here is what’s going to power the

Pistons which is what’s going to change the instrument of the note block and you’ll notice that the note blocks themselves don’t actually react to that they don’t give off a sound at all but that’s what’s going to trigger an upwards current of redstone through to some observers which are going to

Activate a wall of pistons here and that’s what’s going to be pushing our cobblestone around so on top of each of these we’re going to create a small Tower of observers and note blocks starting with an observer facing down a note block and an observer facing down

And another note block like so and we’re gonna do the same on each of these until we have a wall that looks like this no block observe a note block observe a note block all in a chain like that and now when I pull the lever you’ll notice

That the blocks up at the top give off that bass drum notes because they’re on top of observers but they do that all at the same time every single one has been triggered by this set of note blocks down here and that will actually trigger

A bunch of Pistons if we set them up in front of this which I’m gonna use regular Pistons for which I did bring them out here with me starting on this observer here we’re going to be placing pistons facing forward like so and we’re

Going to make a 5 by 3 high pad of them like this it could be for high but ultimately we’re going to be blowing this stuff up with TNT and I think the TNT is going to be optimal if it has a three-block highest section of

Cobblestone to blow up but now if we pull this lever you’ll notice that that all gets pushed out and not all at once unfortunately these two sets of pistons get pushed out before the set above but that should be totally fine thanks to the fact that cobblestone is generated relatively slowly from a

Standard cobblestone generator the game only produces one cobblestone every second or two it’s not gonna need to be a zero tick farm or anything it’s not going to be all that impressive as far as timing goes that we just need it to do the job so having removed the lever

From this setup over here we’re actually going to put a block there and on top of that we’re gonna have a redstone torch so that when the last piece of cobblestone gets pushed into place over here the redstone torch is going to trigger a circuit much like the zero

Taking ones that we’ve been using elsewhere in the series but it’s just going to run a redstone signal into a block here which is going to run down activate all of those Pistons at once and then anything in front of this wall of pistons is going to be pushed around

I will show you briefly with these dirt blocks just as an example I’ll put them basically anywhere for now but you can have a whole bunch of them in place and then when one last block gets pushed down here the entire wall activates pushing all of blocks one block forward leaving space

For more to be pushed from above and with this we’re going to create a massive section of cobblestone that’s going to be pushed out towards the site where a TNT blast is going to blow it all up meaning that all of the machinery over here remains outside of the area of the

TNT blast and stays intact and we aren’t just going to have one wall of pistons pushing cobblestone and being blown up we’re actually going to have four we can arrange these in a kind of plus shape so everything meets in the middle and at their most amount of stone we can

Possibly do gets blown up at once but we first need to design a one module of this so I’m going to make myself a cobblestone generator I’ve grabbed a bucket of lava from my fuel box that I got from the ender chest and I think we’ll probably set that up above here

I’ve tried a couple of times to make a design that pushes layers of cobblestone in from the sides down here instead of pushing it in from the top but ultimately I think moving it in from the top is going to be a little bit simpler

And you know what I might as well go and get some scaffolding while I’m at it because this is gonna be a little tall so up here level with the side of these Pistons we’re going to be making our cobblestone generator so ideally we want the cobblestone to generate here so we

Need a lava source here and a water source above it that we’re going to be hemming the water source in with a waterlogged stone bricks stare and then maybe either some trapdoors or some other blocks around at the outside I’m probably going to avoid using trapdoors actually for this example because some

Folks who may not have a fire spread turned off in their world so you probably want to avoid using anything that’s made out of wood so we’ll waterlog that stair and you’ll notice when we take the block away underneath it the waterlogged stair remains there it’s not gonna leak the water out or

Anything so that’s kind of ideal for this setup because over here on this side where the scaffolding block is actually so let me try and get underneath that on that block there that’s where our lava source is going to go so we’ll need to surround that with

Blocks as well make sure the lava doesn’t escape I’m actually gonna place the lava source here and then very quickly block that one in there we go so the lava is now inside of that block there and unfortunately we can’t love a log stuff in the same way that you can

Waterlogged blocks so that is unfortunately something that we will have to deal with it for the time being now if I take this block out here the lava is going to be exposed it’s going to try and flow this way and it’s going to turn into cobblestone because the waterlogged stay

Is directly above it so the whole thing that looks like this from above a waterlogged stair up there hemmed in with blocks diagonally to its left we have a lava source flowing into that space underneath the water log stair which is turning that into cobblestone now behind that cobblestone we are going

To be placing a piston and we’re going to use the same trick that we’ve used here with the redstone torch underneath in order to activate that piston as soon as a cobblestone block appears in this space kind of the same way I set up my cobblestone generator in the sky block

World so the piston is going to be facing this way we are going to go down one block underneath here we’re going to take out the block below the cobblestone block leaving one stone brick there on which we’re gonna place our redstone torch next to the redstone torch and the

Piston we’re going to be placing two stone bricks like so and a single redstone dust next to the cobblestone block here should activate the piston and now anytime a cobblestone block is generated by this cobblestone generator it immediately gets pushed out making way for another one and this machine is

Now producing cobblestone as faster as it is possible to it occurs to me that I’m gonna have to start lighting the sections of this up that torch is gonna disappear in time but I’m a little bit worried that underneath here it is going to generate a few mobs so we’ll make

Sure that this area stays lit up with various maybe glowstone blocks or something so that we don’t have to have them attached to blocks the way these torches are the next step here is going to be pushing these cobblestone blocks down in front of the pistons and while

It would be neat of course to set up some sort of zero ticking segment here it really isn’t necessary because the blocks aren’t being generated all that fast so all we really need to do is set up a line of pistons above these facing downwards like so and set those to be

Triggered by something at the end here for that we’ll need a redstone block and a couple of repeaters and some solid building blocks I guess I’ll probably use another note block here just for fun I guess and what we’re gonna do is detect when this’ll last a piece of

Cobblestone that comes into place above this piston here that’s going to have a redstone current traveling through it thanks to a repeater here and a block of redstone there like so and on the opposite side over here we’re going to have another repeater detecting the current from this block here and putting

It through each of these Pistons Oh up there hello so this no block here is going to have a repeater on it that’s all ready detecting the redstone block on the opposite side of there which is perfect we’re gonna have the current run up onto each of these blocks and now any

Time cobblestone hits this final block here that entire row of Pistons is going to be pushed down and hopefully yet that separated five blocks that have been generated from the cobblestone generator allowing the cobblestone generator to continue doing its thing so if I now scaffold up to the cobblestone generator

Which has jammed thanks to the fact that it’s produced more cobblestone than the piston can push if I break this block here it should now start to generate cobblestone in a line that line is eventually going to reach that terminal terminating point there and it’s all going to be pushed downwards including

That note block that I put under there as a placeholder but now if I remove the no block and that extra cobblestone block you will find that as soon as this wall of cobblestone reaches the point where it is above the redstone torch here that is all going to get pushed

Forwards allowing more cobblestone to be generated by the machine behind it once the machine has generated a couple more cobblestone we should see that first push of the piston wall in action there it goes and now we have a three by five section extruded Frommer the cobblestone that’s been generating above and getting

Pushed out in this direction for the next 12 blocks or so of course before it gets to the point where all twelve blocks have been pushed and of the piston can no longer push a thirteenth a TNT is going to fall from a TNT duplicator and explode some of the

Cobblestone around it making way for more cobblestone blocks to be pushed out in that direction that’s the plan at least let’s see if we can pull this off I’m going to build three more of these modules two of them will probably only be 3×3 but the other one on the opposite

Side is going to be three by five and I want it all to arrange itself around a TNT block that’s going to be falling from a TNT duplicator but because I imagine we will want to turn off this cobblestone generator to prevent it from jamming in the meantime all we need to

Do is come up here and power this piston here just with a lever attached to the block on the opposite site that pushes the piston head out into this space make sure that no lava and water can meet in the middle and produce cobblestone turning off the machine for now the

Machine is basically self powering every time a cobblestone gets to a certain Junction the machines so just putting a lever at the start here is gonna mean that no more cobblestone gets pushed around until we want it to and my hope is that we’re going to produce enough cobblestone via this method that

Hopefully by the time that the machine is complete it’s going to be acquiring a more cobble stone then it will be possible for me to place blocks of stone in the world meaning we get a net game out of this thing regardless of how we are doing with the mountain building

Side of things so let’s hope this all works out I’m going to go ahead and build the other parts of it probably secure this area a little bit because there are strays out here in the ice Plains and I’ll see you guys when the machine is built

Hey folks welcome back so every arm of the machine so far is done and I have realized there’s a bit of a mathematical problem at stake here because what I wanted to do was have two arms of a 3×3 section kind of coming in in the middle

So that what you ended up with was just a 3×3 square around an obsidian block this is gonna be obsidian in the final design and one block lower so that the TNT doesn’t fall any lower than that and it can blow up as much cobblestone is

Around it as possible but I realize that with these all being measured out the same I made sure to make each of the distances from the cobblestone generators the same so it should all generate the same amount but the 3×3 section is actually going to be firing faster because it requires fewer blocks

Of cobblestone in order to fill it up it’s still going to be waiting for two more blocks of cobblestone to filter into that section when this one is already firing so maybe we could mess around with the timings a little bit we could extend the length of you know from

The cobblestone generator to this section or maybe extend this upwards a little bit so it has to fill more blocks in before it gets pushed forward but I think what we can end up doing is just time the TNT drops so that it blows up stuff in the center frequently enough

That these two aren’t going to jam up because ultimately if we’re going to be using AT&T duplicator for this then we’re not really going to be wasting any resources but if you are interested in doing this with you know regular TNT if you don’t want to duplicate you’re not

Allowed to or for whatever reason then by all means measure these out a little bit more and maybe consider shortening these ones just figure out exactly how much cobblestone is here in a 3×3 area that is 10 blocks long for example and then figure out how much that is in

Terms of a three by five area that’s gonna be however many blocks long I can’t quite work out the math off the top of my head but imagine that you’re working with the same amount of material just being pushed into the center from shorter and longer sections anyway I

Want to demonstrate what’s gonna happen when the TNT Falls in the central section here but I realized I don’t have any obsidian on me and I don’t have any in my ender chest for that matter despite the fact that I have far too much obsidian back at my base I don’t

Want to go all the way over there right now luckily for me there is a lava lake which is what I’ve been using to get the Lava for the cobblestone generators there’s a lava lake just over here that I figure I will grab a bucket

Out of and just make a single block of obsidian here instead of going all the way back to founders Forge for it I also want to make sure though I am fairly confident that none of the glowstone I’ve placed around here ends up blowing up as a result because I have placed

That glowstone there’s to make sure that the light level around here never gets any lower than 8 it’s roughly in the center of each one of these platforms there is an 8 block light there an eight-block light there so on the corners we are seeing lower enough a

Block light almost that mobs could spawn but it doesn’t get down as far as 7 even though it looks a little bit dark over here I think it’s just because there is a mountain and built over the top of it right let’s place the TNT down here I’m

Gonna light it with a button because I don’t have a flint and steel right handy and let’s see how this goes all right a sizable chunk got taken out of the center there let’s pick up the cobblestone that’s on the ground and that was roughly 4950 cobblestone I

Think I had one or two cobblestone in my inventory already but 50 cobblestone per pop is not too bad considering this is going to be just regenerating it constantly and maybe it might even knock out enough blocks of these 3×3 arms that we don’t need to worry too much about

The mathematics of things underneath here we are gonna have a collection mechanism in the form of a giant water trough and that’s going to funnel everything down into the super smelter that’s gonna be nice and straightforward to build so we’re gonna do that probably in the next episode at this rate I’m

Running out of time for this episode but I just wanted to show you the mechanism in action last thing I’m gonna do is build up the TNT duplicator which you guys will know how to do if you’ve seen the episode about tnt duplicators if not that will of course be linked in the

ICard so you can head back and watch that the main thing we need to worry about is making sure that the TNT lands perfectly on top of that obsidian because there is a chance there we go that should be where it lands there is a chance that it could end up with a

Priming direction that’s going to take it slightly off to one side or the fact that their TNT duplicator is not always entirely accurate and sometimes it can generate a TNT one block over so what we’re gonna do is the same thing we have done in our concrete farm or book farm

As I initially wanted to use it I am going to end up with a water stream just a two-block water stream that’s gonna carry the tnt down and sometimes it might even explode while it is falling but for the most part it should land on that obsidian

There and we can guarantee its accuracy if we line it up using a water stream the only other thing we have to be concerned about is making sure that the TNT drops from a height greater than its blast radius just so it doesn’t blow up any of the mechanism up here in the

Process but I’m fairly certain that should all go okay so now is the time to get this whole thing built okay with that all taken care of I think this is done as always it’s just a simple etho hopper clock rigged up to the TNT duplicator circuit with an observer here

Detecting when the redstone block shuttles back and forth so it should just output a nice easy signal to the TNT duplicator I have a feeling we’re going to need about half a stack of blocks to between intervals of the TNT Jeepers which should hopefully yep

Explode as it’s on its way down it looks like a little bit of stuff down there exploded as well so we might have to design our water pool a little bit carefully but it seems like this is all ready to go now I’m gonna test how long

It takes this thing to fill up and to see if we need to adjust the timings accordingly a man look at the mess we’re gonna make down here it’s gonna be kind of glorious and that we should get a lot of cobblestone out of this there’s

Another piece of TNT so I’m gonna back off a little bit the real test is if it’s gonna be fast enough to keep up but with the two smaller cobblestone generators and if it keeps up with those it will definitely keep up with the larger ones so let’s see if it pushes a

Little bit of cobblestone in towards the center here we might actually even have to add a little bit of cobblestone to our hopper clock to make sure that it there’s enough time between TNT drops that it will blow up a decent amount here I don’t want to be you know just

Having it go off all the time if it doesn’t need to but I tell you what it is gonna be kind of cool having this explosion go on under the mountain while I’m building it almost as though there is mining work taking place down here even before the mountain is present and

The dwarves will have been up to something I imagine hopefully that should be long enough yep looks like the tnt is dropping again yeah this cobblestone generator over here did just jam up so we definitely need to decrease the amount of items we have in that hopper and to make sure

That this whole circuit gets rebuilt because I think I just pushed a little bit of the dark oak flanks into the ground okay there is one problem emerging and it’s this right here whenever those kind of arms of the sides of this connect the TNT blast doesn’t

Quite reach them so you know what I think cool though it is to have fives and threes on this I think it might be better to scale it back to just having sections where it’s a three by three instead of these five by three sections

I know he spent the rest of the video assuming we’re gonna have these five by three sections as well as the three by threes but I have a feeling that it’s gonna help with the timings it’s gonna help avoid issues like that I think that was a lag spike but yes occasionally

Stuff like this happens and it just can’t push it any further than that I think that’s gonna be vastly improved by simplifying this design so it’s just three by threes pushing in towards the center and there is less chance of them colliding at a certain point it’s also

Going to be improved if I can start them all at the same time I think that’s also part of the problem here is I don’t have a master on/off switch that turns off all of the cobblestone generators at once and turns them back on again so everything is happening at slightly

Different timings from each other but aside from that I think stripping those two down so they’re just three by threes is gonna make a lot more sense in the long run well folks it’s taken longer than I had hoped but it seems to be stable at least is it perfect

No is it stable I think so at this point and hopefully next episode we should be able to produce a nice little collection and smelting mechanism that’s going to make sure we are taking care of as far as stone goes for the rest of this ridiculous project I’ve undertaken but
