– If you look at the tradition from which the play comes, the Shakespearean history tradition, the history of the ghost is really very strong. And of course, within our royal family there is a ghost. – I’m sure I heard a scream. – So did I. – When Charles first sees the ghost, he says, “Mother?” ‘Cause he’s not quite sure who it is. And of course, it’s just after his mother’s death. Seems reasonable that’s who he’d think it is. When the ghost actually appears, It turns out to be the ghost of Princess Diana. I think there was a picture of Princess Diana in the paper, everyday for at least 10 years after she died. She was a woman of fantastic influence. Profoundly sad that the marriage didn’t work. Ghastly Greek tragedy ending. I just think that area of Princess Diana is incredibly sensitized. – [Diana’s Ghost] You think I didn’t love you. It’s not true. – Diana? Every night we ever did it, my stomach used to turn. It’s because it’s such a… such a delicate area. But I think, when I look at what we’ve done, Diana was divisive in life. All the play says is that she’s divisive in death, as well. – Such pain my son, such hurt. But now be glad, you’ll be the greatest king we ever had. – It used to upset me, quite often, doing that part of the play. But I don’t see why we shouldn’t do it, and I think we do it with great caution. Video Information
