10 things to never do when building in Minecraft as you can imagine I’ve built a lot of random stuff over the years like a lot and you know people often come to me asking stuff like Hey how do I build good like you or how do I build Better or something along those lines and unfortunately it’s really hard to put into words you just kind of have to do it over and over again and figure out what looks good and what doesn’t but there are a few things that I’d say are generally big no-no’s if you’re trying To make nice looking Minecraft Builds here’s 10 of them if you’re guilty of any of these please feel free to come clean down in the comments I’ve also posted my numerous buildings since number one relying too much on squares and rectangles starting with the first one here I’ve got this kind of like Rusticky deep slate and wood and copper a little house over here and then I got what’s kind of like a modern house over on this side and let me be totally clear with you guys these builds are really not bad but if we take a bird’s eye view You’ll notice that they’re kind of just squares and of course yes it’s a q game there are going to be a lot of cubes in and squares and rectangles and whatnot in Minecraft but you can really get a lot more creative with your shapes than Just like a 9×9 box which is really what this build is when you break it down you know no matter how many fancy little trap doors and fences and little weird textures and stuff you put on the outside if your main build shape is just A box you’re gonna have a box don’t be afraid to get really wacky with your layouts and Foundations and stuff and just see what Cool Shapes you can come up with number two relying too much on texture mixing now as I’m sure you guys see in all your favorite Minecraft YouTube channels you know Empires hermitcraft and stuff people really like mixing together different textures but of course if you start doing the same approach without truly understanding what you’re doing you can lead to some really odd looking builds like this house behind me right here I’ll put up a Little 360 view of the original build which already has quite a bit of texture mixing going on inside it but in my opinion it was still like a reasonable level and here I’ve really gone and ramped it up to 110 with all the different deep slate and stone and Spruce and dark oak and all the weird stuff going on on the interior bits here build is kind of an eyesore like legit this actually kind of makes me dizzy to look at and it probably does for some of you guys too there is a lot going on Here like yeah I get it you have a lot of different kinds of blocks and you really want to use as many textures as you can to really show off that you’re good at building but there’s a limit and if you go past that limit you end up With things like this number three building like it’s 2012. so let’s say you started a brand new Minecraft world you spent a couple IRL days Gathering materials finding a really nice location for your first starter base in this brand new Minecraft adventure and you end up with something that looks kind of Like that and at first glance you know this house isn’t really breaking any of the rules that we just talked about right like the foundation shape is interesting there’s a little bit of texture mixing every now and again but really not that much but I think we can All agree that this house looks pretty basic if you look at my block choices I’m using stuff that’s from like Minecraft Beta if not older and uh it really kind of shows really talking to the old school Minecraft players out there you don’t need to build like this Anymore if you really really want to build like this don’t let me stop you but trust me there’s really much more interesting things you can get out there even in the early game so why limit yourself to Oak and stone number four a lack of colors one thing that I often See in people’s Minecraft Builds is they’re really really kind of stuck in their ways of using materials that are only really easy to obtain in survival which I understand because you know if you’re being a little bit lazy you don’t want to go out and gather like a bunch Of weird stuff that’s really hard to farm up a lot of but at the same time if you’re trying to make good builds you kind of need to get out of that mindset check out this cool little Fortress built into the side of a hill that I put Together here right we got some interesting depth we got quite a few different kinds of textures we’re using a couple new blocks between like the endocyte and the chains and stuff and the walls you know these are not exactly super super old school but as I’m sure You can see this is literally just like four or five different kinds of stone and some iron and like I’m I mean yeah it looks really sturdy and tough and Industrial and whatever but I mean there are a lot of colors in this game I would suggest using a few of them All right that was a little bit mean I apologize but still like I get it that sometimes you just want to stick with what you’re comfortable with but really if you can incorporate a couple accent colors or just interesting primary vibrant colors into your builds you’re Gonna have things that end up looking a lot better than just gray walls everywhere number five spamming too much foliage now this habit is pretty similar to our second tip in the sense that it’s often derived from people like watching professional Minecraft creators build and then just kind of getting the wrong Idea I’m sure you guys have all seen some really amazing custom foliage and really cool looking biomes full of lush foliage and scenery and stuff and that’s all really cool like yes custom foliage is awesome and custom foliage mixed in with your bills is even more awesome but This is overboard like yeah there’s a whole lot of depth and detail here outside of these cabins but a it’s way too much to look at we got like what grass Azalea Vines leaves bamboo flowers dripley all sorts of random crap here that doesn’t really make any sense why Is this here this doesn’t really match with the rest of the biome at all of course you could argue that this level of foliage is still better than no foliage and I’d probably agree with you there but using this much is Just unnecessary in my opinion number six Having large areas without any kind of texture mixing right behind me here is my good old sanctum sanctorum build from a while back I’m sure a few of you guys are going to recognize this one and the reason I’m showing you guys this build in particular is well I mean look at all The detail on the front of course this was an inspired build it wasn’t entirely an original creation but my point is that this style of building this kind of like early 20th century art deco like Urban building style that I showed off in my original video it’s got so much Detail on the front but if we took away a lot of this depth and detail blocks and stuff you would really see how much more bland these walls are you can kind of get a feel for it if we take a look at the other two sides here which are uh Not very detailed yeah they would look something like this to be honest and then if I take a minute to just go ahead and strip out all of the different texture mixing here you can really see how much more bland it is on these larger sections especially at the bottom where there’s Really not much going on down here like it’s not the most noticeable difference in the world on this build but if you’re working with a bill with less detail you’ve really got to add in some texture mixing or else you’re gonna have a whole lot of bland surfaces number seven roofs That don’t overhang now this is a little bit more specific compared to our previous ones it’s kind of a pet peeve of mine but I’m sure at some point in your Minecraft career you’ve built a house that look kind of like this maybe it wasn’t made out of mud and granite I Just kind of wanted to use that texture palette because why not but you guys can see the general shape here we have a box and then we have a triangle on top of the box and that’s really boring and not only is it boring it doesn’t really look like houses in real life You’ll probably notice that basically every house has a roof that overhangs and of course the point of that is so when it rains the rain just doesn’t drip down all of your walls and everything it actually goes off of your house and you can apply that same logic to Minecraft Well of course this is a roof I think it would look a whole lot better if you brought everything out by one block on the sides here and also on the front you could even go for more than one block overhang if you really wanted to it might actually even look better like Take a look at this before and after I think we can both agree that while the build is very much the same in its General style it looks a lot better with an overhang don’t forget your overhangs kids number eight using the generic four pillar style design let’s take a quick Look at the three builds behind me right here they’re all using completely different block pallets but I wouldn’t say any of them look particularly good and yes these guys are definitely breaking a few of the different rules that I’ve been talking about in this video they’re all definitely just blocky Rectangle they’re all definitely not really using a lot of texture mixing for these large surfaces on the top and the walls here but the point I want to highlight right here is that they all have these pillars here these four pillars one on each Corner this has got To be one of the most overused building styles in the history of Minecraft and well I don’t entirely blame people if we go ahead and find a village real quick basically every structure in this Village uses that same design and look I get it it’s somewhat realistic right Like buildings in real life need supports they need pillars to hold up their second floor or their roof or whatever but I think we can take a break from the style every once in a while just saying it kind of makes your build look like a village and that’s not Really a good look just saying number nine not thinking about gravity that’s right gravity I’ve talked a decent bit about this in my video seven quick tips for realistic builds in Minecraft so if you want a more in-depth explanation of how gravity is going to affect the Realism in your mind craft builds I definitely go give that a look but for right here and right now it’s really important to know that gravity really matters quite a bit if you’ve got a really really large room like this weird one right here don’t forget that you’re Gonna need some sort of interior support to make an area of this size look realistic for buildings that aren’t really that big like this really basic one we looked at earlier in the video you can get away with not really having pillars or anything like that but even In a build of this size we kind of already have the house sectioned off into three different areas we’ve got the deck we’ve got this main area I’m standing in right now and then we’ve got this little side area over here with all the windows really what I’m trying to Get at here is that if you’ve got a large interior space break it up a little bit add some walls it’s gonna look a lot better trust me and number 10 jumping right into a build without planning I’m about to do something here that I don’t often do for you guys which Is show you my creative test world and I know there’s a lot of different stuff going on here so let me just explain what I use this world for if you’re watching my random hardcore series you might recognize a few of these different builds and yeah I really just use this For prototyping or just planning out stuff for future videos I’ve also got behind these doors here actually my little world Between Worlds Hub world for my random hardcore videos we are kind of taking a look behind the scenes here at my random hardcore series I hope You guys are enjoying that as you can see the sniffer behind me right there cute little guy and yeah I highly recommend making one of these even if you don’t use it very often it’s a really great way of just plotting out your ideas brainstorming new ones and Just making sure things look right before you bring them into your main Minecraft world anyways guys I think that’s going to do it for today’s video If you enjoyed please don’t forget to leave a like on the video down below and of course if you’re not subscribed Consider doing that as well I’d really appreciate it I’m trying to reach 10K Subs by the end of the year and if we reach that that’s going to be really insane so all your support really helps and until next time guys this has been Leon and I’ll see you all in the next Minecraft building tips video take care my friends Video Information
