Mana and artifice is a huge magic mod that adds in an absolute ton of content from exploration discovery ores armors factions and structures to customizable spell casting and highly automatable custom golem minions welcome to the mischief i’m valen and this is manan artifice it’s been refreshed and has had a huge overhaul on Just about everything from textures to its approach and in this series i’m going to start teaching you bit by bit on how you too can become the wizard of your dreams so let’s start out with the basics what does this mod add to your world well let’s go with some of the World gen things that it brings in for starters flowers now you might think flowers are nothing really much to add in but these are magical ones and mostly used for ingredients in your magical spells or different tinkerings in some cases you can even use them to make a Healing poultice allowing you to heal while holding still on top of that we’ve got some oars one of which is easily visible from the start it’s at least as populous as iron is and that is vintium mining this will get you the basic item that you will need for almost everything In this mod on top of that though there is something called kymerite but you do have to be a slightly accomplished wizard in order to even find the stuff meaning you’ve got to be at least a level 5 10 or 20 level wizard depending upon the Items that you’re mining in level 5 for emeralds level 10 for diamonds and level 20 for coal will allow you to automatically have a chance of getting some chimerite when you’re mining these villagers now there are a few new jobs specifically we’ve got the spellmonger which is created from the runeforge job Station you might even find these so some of these job stations can be valuable resources and give you a little bit of a jump start if not a shortcut in your playthrough spellmonger will sell any number of different ingredients from inks and books to different charms or maybe even mysterious spells Specifically each different villager will have a possibility of selling some special pouch as well in this case it would be an herbalist pouch which has a chance of giving you any random number of flowers strings leather and so on the next villager type is the runesmith which of course is created from a Runescribing table they will have any number of different runes rune equipment tools and whatnot they may also have an inscriptionist pouch which inside of it may have some different glyphs as well as strings and leather and then the last one is the mana weaver villager this one Here is created from a mana weaving altar as its job block and they have any number of mana weaving supplies some random blocks different tools as well as the weaver’s pouch which may have any number of weaving bottles as well as strings and leather beyond villagers This mod adds in a few structures some of which are rather simple like a random building with some loot in it that might also help boost you on your adventure points of interest or just some caches that you could potentially unlock if you have the right key to do so on top of That there are several mobs each one belongs to a specific faction there are four factions in this mod all of these mobs are going to be neutral until you actually pick a faction as you progress starting with the council which will have spell breakers and witch hunters Next is the fae court which will have mushroom soldiers and pixies then there’s the demons which primarily live in the nether with demon imps and lantern wraiths and last but not least we’ve got the undead with hulking zombies and skeleton assassins to get started one simply needs a codex arcana You could be fortunate enough to find a codex arcana in some of the loot from different structures or you could also be fortunate enough to find yourself a spellmonger in amongst a village assuming you also find a village which a spellmonger will trade for a codex Arcana for a few vintium ingots which in turn are just iron plus vintium smelted not necessarily in a furnace but also could be used in a roon forge which is their workstation for the spell monger and it would be free if you use this but once you get a codex arcana just simply Right click which may turn it to nighttime once you’ve done so you gain a level in magic this is your first level and you have 120 mana to spend which will automatically replenish as you use it if you don’t like where it’s at not to worry you can actually use things in Your codex itself to help you navigate with moving around the hud or the heads-up display as you desire another good tip is that as you are casting and using spells and such and your mana is being depleted it’s a really good idea to keep your hunger levels full if They’re topped up you’ll gain a bonus to the regen rate of your mana now this book covers just about everything and it will unlock more things as you progress but it’s not the only tool that you’ll likely need instead you’re going to want to make yourself a simple wand or at Least in this case probably a vintia manuever’s one though you can get away with an improvised amanda weaver’s wand if you really want to an improvised one will take any number of different resources like you see here and it will only be usable for about five uses Instead i would recommend you start with the vintium mana weaver’s wand which requires a little bit of those vintium ingots that you probably used to trade for a codex arcana some more vintium and some sticks the advantage of a vintium manuever’s wand is that it lasts five times longer than the improvised one Making it have a durability of 25. later on you should be able to make a kymerite mana waivers wand which has an infinite durability but you’ll need to be at least level 5 before you can start mining chymorite and most likely you might not even see any until you’re Level 20. so once you have a wand what is it useful for you can cast simple spells called cantrips with this wand already being level 1 you do have access to this if you hold the control key and right click while holding your wand you open up a menu that displays the Different can trips that you are familiar with cantrips are spells that you come pre-equipped with as long as you have a wand to use them and you can customize the different patterns that you’ll need to draw in the air in order to cast these starting off you have Ignite which is exactly the same as just clicking a flint and steel on the ground transmute which allows you to change things like copper stone sandstone and gravel into other options for example transmuted silver is one of the most valuable things you could potentially use And it gives a great use for copper and yes it does affect a small area as well signal flare which launches a firework from your position makes you glow and may someone a random ally but that’s primarily only if you’re affiliated with a faction and then gust which clears out Grass snow saplings and so on in a nine by nine by two area centered on you and while all of these cantrips are useful the one that i’m going to focus on most is transmute because it’s going to make resources that you’re going to need in order to progress in this mod Specifically transmuted silver now that i know how to make transmuted silver i can use it to make things like an oculus which is made from an ornate table which uses some of those transmuted silver as well as a bit of vintaman glass when you open up this oculus just by Right-clicking on it it shows you kind of a quest list for your tier progression into becoming an even more experienced wizard but it also shows you a whole lot of other things that you may or even may not have access to to start with the very first page is just a list Of quests more or less that you need to complete but not all of them if you notice here it says 15 of the 19 tasks are required and it’s up to you to choose which 15 you like or if you wanted you could even complete all 19. Doesn’t really matter you just need a minimum if we go to the next tab the affinity faction power tab this shows you as you cast spells how you actually attune to them if i cast earth spells quite frequently i’ll become more attuned to that affinity and gain certain discounts but be aware that Having an affinity towards one means that you’ll have the opposite effect on the other in this case if i choose earth the opposite would be air thus those air spells would cost me considerably more and of course arcane and ender are opposites water and fire and so on the Eldrin wellspring energy you see on the right will be used in future tiers that we don’t have access to at this point but just know that these are certain fuel amounts based on affinities that you may need to power or create things going to the next tab called sorcery This gives you a list of all the spells that you have access to making not necessarily casting with any kind of wand or anything but you can make these spells scrolling down you’ll start seeing some of these other spells listed in a darker red color these ones you don’t have Access to as you notice they’re listed as tier 2 3 and so on going to the rituals tab rituals are essentially spells but they’re drawn on a surface most spells are cast from a book of some sort though a few like your cantrips are cast from a wand rituals on the other Hand are likely cast off the ground using some kind of chalk and different ingredients placed on the actual outlines that you’ve made mana weaving patterns are the different shapes that you can make with your wand as i was saying before if i use it by casting Right a couple times and i can transmute stuff that was just using the vulness mana weave pattern but there are other ones basically this circle called orbeus square called quadratum and so on these are the only ones that you have access to yet so if you experience these or Find these elsewhere in the world you might want to take note of that especially if they’re on loot containers going to the next tab mana weave crafting these are all the things that you can craft on a mana weave crafting altar same as before gray ones are those You have access to darker red ones are those that you don’t at least not yet and some of these are ingredients in other uses other ones are final results like ender feather charms for example can be used on their own to help you out considerably other ones though are just Simply building blocks the next tab is runescribing there’s only one that’s available and that’s the pattern of marking not to worry too much about this just yet rune scribing is something we really get into more along the lines of tier two but it’s using physical patterns to Make magical metal runes which then can be applied to different uses armors weapons spells and so on and rune smithing is taking a lot of those runes and actually applying them constructs are more or less little golems that you may have access to even though nothing’s Listed for tier 1 you do have access to a very basic golem just not a lot of commands for it until tier two but these customizable entities can help you or even automate some of your tasks and lastly we’ve got enchantments which is more or less taking your rune smithing And scribing items and magically enchanting things into your tools gear or otherwise i highly recommend checking out the oculus if not for some kind of direction on a quest line at the very least for some kind of crafting options or what things you might have access to At your current level that might just be really cool that you otherwise might overlook moving on from an oculus the next handy thing to have around is a magician’s workbench of course you’re going to need to tinker a lot well this is a crafting workbench that has been 200 percent upgraded reason i say 200 is because it has two crafting grids and it can memorize different recipes as you craft them it also has a little storage area that you can use to put different items in so that you can pull from that inventory other things you can make with Transmuted silver or just with iron is going to be a rune forge if you haven’t already found one in a village you can make your own just with a few glyphs a furnace or some magical stones that you may have made with mana weaving you can Place one of these down and they act just like a furnace the best part is it’s free it does not cost anything to fuel it but it may go a little faster or slower depending upon what you put in it it will process campfire recipes at one Half the time but it does double the time for any other regular furnace recipes and it only accepts up to 16 items in it the other thing is you cannot get any of the items out singly you have to wait for the entire stack to finish unless you have hoppers piping Them in and out then it will process them one at a time and you’ll have them accessed as they’re available this is one of the few things that can make bone ash and it is an ingredient you’ll likely need for multiple spells and things like that simply put a bone on Your rune forge and good to go using bone ash you can make wizard chalk arcane compounds and even leather provided that you also end up using a mana weaving altar speaking of amanda weaving altar i’ve mentioned it at least a couple times now let’s go over how One’s made and how to use it you can of course be lucky enough to find one in a village as it is a job block for different mana weavers alternately you might be able to make one from some different arcane sandstone stone and a bucket of water once you obtain a mana Weaving altar you will need to have a mana weaver’s wand of some sort in order for it to function properly there are multiple things you can make on this primarily i’ve used the oculus to list out the things that you have access to at this point and i’m going to go over Each of them briefly we’re going to start with the staff of the pilgrim it’s my favorite item of this mod all together especially since you get it so early on and you can always upgrade it later but it does require some kind of other ingredients that you need to have Access to one being wizard chalk using some of that bone ash we talked about flint ventum and paper a bit of vintium some leather boots dried kelp sugar and some kind of magic staff i recommend just the cheap one requires a couple pieces of stick and vintium and you can Make yourself a magic staff the magic staff does not actually do anything on its own sort of act as some kind of a weaker weapon but it can be used to store spells later on currently though we’re going to turn it into an enchanted staff of the pilgrim simply by Right-clicking the required items on the mana weaving altar everything is stored in place then you just need to use the different mana weaving patterns in order for this to happen using a wand you have multiple options on how to actually cast things before i was showing you you do You would draw things in the air if you press by default the letter z on your keyboard brings up a radial menu by choosing triangulus in this case all i need to do is hold down the right button on my mouse and it will automatically Cast that item i don’t even need to draw it in the air so for those of you that are struggling with trying to draw in the air maybe you’ve got some lag on a server or you just really don’t have the patience for it you can now do this much Simpler in order to make any errors go away just right click on the mana waving altar with your mana weaver’s wand and it should remove the last pattern that you had on there if you right click on the mana waiver’s alter with an empty hand you’ll remove the last item that You placed on it once you’ve got all the required patterns in there and the items are correct that’s on the mana weaving altar it will cast and create the magically enchanted staff of the pilgrim by having this in one of your hands you then gain a speed effect and step assist So you can instantly go up one block high blocks without having to actually jump on top of that it also gives you a bigger jump and a softer landing so it’s just really good all around now that’s not all there’s a lot of different things that you can make let’s continue On with the mana waving altar for things like feather charms these can fit into a curio slot which is one of the mods required for this mod to work there is an end feather charm which when used will teleport you to your spawn point provided that you’re in the same Dimension this one is one that you will actually actively have to use it does have a bit more of a cost requiring ender pearls but it’s well worth it when you’ve got a long distance to go the coal feather charm is very helpful especially if you’re in the nether it Allows you to extinguish yourself and solidify lava and any of these charms once used will break and you’ll have to make new ones now to go the opposite end of the spectrum we’ve got a reed feather charm which will replenish your breath should it run out while underwater and Last but not least we’ve got the bone feather charm this will negate all fall damage if it was lethal as you gain levels from casting creating and making these things you may end up finding yourself some chimerite with this in mind you can use it to make something called a redstone Spell trigger it’s an interesting block that allows you to activate redstone from spells cast on it for example in this case i’m going to be using ignite on this redstone spell trigger and you can see it activates the redstone nearby and as you notice the redstone actually Fades over time it doesn’t just turn on and off and then we of course have some blocks and ingredients that you can also make on a mana weaving altar like arcane stones arcane sandstones vintium redstone variant stones kymerite stones and so on but it also allows you to make Different ingredients like silk and leather it’s a pretty darn useful tool to have but one of the most important ones i found is animus dust using animus dust on a block will bring it to life temporarily and it will be your ally if you’re attacking something it will then Start attacking that enemy at least for a short time until it reverts back into its original self but it’s also used for making constructs that are a much more permanent friend option you can also use a mana waving altar to make a book of the shifting lands but we’ll be covering That and its use later let’s go over rituals these are more or less spells that are cast from circles and glyphs and patterns made on the ground with ingredients placed potentially on top of that and maybe even some spell weaving to activate it first and foremost you’ll Need some chalk you can use it to draw patterns on the ground or if you really want to you can use it to kind of mark your path in caves and tunnels it sometimes can just be used as a straight up ingredient as well for example you Can use it to make a practitioner’s pouch i highly recommend you make one of these as quickly as possible reason being it’s more or less a backpack a magical one a practitioner’s pouch is simply crafted in a crafting grid and when you right click it nothing happens Don’t worry we’ll get into that shortly just know that if you hold ctrl and you right click it it will then open you now have an expanded inventory and a whole bunch of these little icons on the right hand side these little icons are actually for upgrades but we don’t have Access to those just yet so keep that in mind when we come back to this later on for now this is going to be our ritual casting buddy so the basics for a ritual you will need chalk as i said you will also need purified vintium dust which is Vintium dust combined with some of that arcane ash i briefly mentioned earlier some kind of magical flower and you’ll get three at a time these are more or less your ritual activation items we’re going to start with the ritual of aurora this ritual will turn night into day it Can only be performed at night or during thunderstorms though so keep that in mind when i click on this little tab on the right in my codex arcana you get a display of the pattern that you need to draw on the ground it’s a three by three Grid but you just need to kind of do a little plus sign with the different chalk drawings then you need to place a couple pieces of wool of the same color on opposite sides taking the chalk and some wool you need that purified vintium clicking That in the middle it tells me that i need wool on both of these sides if you want to have these ingredients placed automatically down so that you don’t have to remember where exactly they need to go just have an empty hand and the ingredients in your inventory then you Can right click and you’ll automatically place them this works the same for any ritual now for the moment i actually am planning on casting this spell quite frequently i’m going to take my practitioner’s pouch shift right click on this and it says ritual pattern stored now if i want to See what ritual patterns i have stored on this i can actually press the z key just like i did with my mana weavers wands to choose the different shapes i can do the same with my practitioners pouch and i can choose different rituals to automatically place on the ground But the catch is i have to have these ingredients in this case chalk purified vintium dust and wool already in my inventory good thing is it won’t necessarily use up all of those ingredients the wool becomes reusable so you don’t lose it the vintium dust will Get used up in the process and the wizard shock will lose durability but if you have all these things in there then you can just right click and it will automatically cast this ritual not to worry you can keep other things in your practitioner’s pouch and if they’re not Part of any kind of ritual that you are needing they’ll just be ignored now let’s cast the wandering wizard ritual why would i want to bother with this well he has a lot of things for sale a lot of things for sale and don’t get On his bad side he will own you now casting the ritual of the wandering wizard is actually pretty basic a bit of chalk door and purified vintium dust and it will summon the wandering wizard and here you’ll see a lot of mana weaving patterns you’ll see thaumaturgic links You may even also see a codex arcana if you want to search for something in here you can start typing in the top left but just about everything in here will be traded for vintium ingots now thaumaturgic links these little things here that have like a little chart on Them of some sort they’re identifiers for structures or biomes and can be used in the ritual of locating so i’m going to grab one of these to find a minecraft mansion on top of that you’ll also notice he’s got lots of mana weaving patterns these can be used for Automating casting on your mana weaving altar so the ritual of locating it’s a little bit bigger than before requires a few more ingredients like arcane ash a compass and of course a thaumaturgic link but it can also be tremendously useful especially early on when you’re trying to find specific structures and The results will be a compass that directs you to said structure or biome so remember those mana weaving patterns that i was talking about let’s go over those first you’re going to want to make a mana reservoir at least one you’ll probably want to make more than this but let’s just start With the basics to make a mana weave projector it will require a vintium mana weaver’s wand and that mana reservoir we just made but it can be well worth it it can also be a big time saver this acts the same as the mana reservoir where if You get close enough it will absorb some of your mana but not to worry uh it it’s more or less going to use this mana in this point now these mana weave projectors if they’re near a mana weaving altar you’ll want them to be very close Within two blocks you can use them to broadcast shapes to that crafting recipe just by clicking on them but first you need to have the mana weaving pattern previously you saw that we had a triple triangulus one that we needed to cast three times in a row and i can do one of Two things i can either click one and then click another and continue until i’ve got all three done the other way of doing it is just to cast one of them and you can then click it again when it’s refilled and done which of course will use the mana That you currently have stored on your person once it’s cast the first time now if you want to change the recipe that’s in one of these mana wave projectors just right click with a different mana waving pattern and you’ve got a new one so do you remember that book of the Shifting lands that i mentioned earlier well this is actually where we’re going to be using it in a couple of very simple yet very effective rituals now i already have these saved on here i have the earthen steps and yawning chasm and the ritual of the yawning chasm is Simply just a little bit of chalk that book of shifting lands plus an iron pickaxe and an iron shovel now these items may end up being used somewhat but not all of them just by clicking here on the ground it will create a large opening in the ground That goes all the way down to y level zero now in more modern versions of minecraft this doesn’t get you all the way to bedrock but it does get you a considerable distance down and if you notice that book was there all i needed to do was just get close Enough that i could pick it up and it is mine once again then i can open this up put the book back in and i have used up the previous iron pick and iron shovel i had in here i had two of each i now have one of Those it used up one purified vintium and a little bit of wizard chalk but i do get the book back which i’m very grateful for oh would you look at that i was incorrect it does go all the way down to bedrock these days but remember it will delete the blocks It does not actually save them these are not for you to be able to retain so let’s switch over to the ritual of the earthen steps which is a modification on this one and one that’s maybe a little bit safer than jumping down i do see water down there but yeah that’s a Little bit dangerous still the ritual of the earth and steps uses pretty much the same materials just arranged in a different pattern and yes it will use up an iron pick and an iron shovel in the process simply by clicking on the ground here it will create a stairway that does Kind of go off to the left side so be aware wherever you click it down it will create a stairway that just kind of goes well that way and there we go i once again got the book of the shifting lands back does not create any kind of light Sources for you but it should go down quite some ways now you may have noticed that this does have a little bit of some problems where it ran into some collapses down here doesn’t mean that the some of this stuff isn’t going to just crash as it is but yeah it will at Least get you down a considerable distance it should be good enough to get you a beginning stairway so you can get all the materials that you’re looking for and there you have it the basics on getting started in some of this mod but there is so much more to come i haven’t Even covered spells and constructs and that is still accessible at tier one which i should be covering in the next episode if you enjoyed this
