Let’s build an armory at least okay perfect and i trapped myself damn it i did it again i’m so stupid emblem craft by ephrem 225 combines the turn-based tactical role-playing gameplay of fire emblem with the resource collection and management of minecraft hence emblem craft although this wasn’t The first submission to the don’t make fire emblem contest i wanted to start this one because it represents the very spirit of what i was hoping people would make it’s fire emblem but with a huge game-changing twist come to think of it why didn’t i name the contest that the game has no Dialogue between characters only instructions and a prompt to create a character with a name and class of your choice the one i chose was transporter because it starts with extra gold i figured that would help me clear the submission faster but no hell no the goal of this game is to Increase your prosperity stat on easy which is the difficulty i chose to make this go by swiftly you win the game once you reach 20 prosperity to increase prosperity you need to build houses and protect them to build houses you need wood which you get by chopping down trees At the start of the game you have two soldiers two fighters and a fort at your disposal fighters are the only class that can chop down trees and soldiers are the only ones who can mine mountains for gold iron and stone the fort besides giving the usual healing and defensive bonuses Also serves as a spawn point for units that you hire in exchange for gold which you’ll need to do if you want to get out of the starting area in particular you’re going to want to hire a mercenary which is a class that can build bridges across lakes They can also build houses which i highly recommend you don’t build if the spot below you can’t be stepped on anyway i don’t know why ephraim didn’t just rename mercenaries to builder and soldiers to miners but you get used to it after a while there’s other classes at your disposal As well the thief can open chests which is really useful because there’s a bunch of chests on the map and what’s in them is really good for example the chest closest to the start gives you a ranged healing staff this proved to be a godsend in my winning run There’s also the archer class which apparently they contain wild animals on the map but the archer i had never saw any action because i restarted before it could get anywhere near wild animals and then i just didn’t make another archer now as for mages mages are god tier Not only can they attack enemies from a distance to avoid retaliations but they’re fast enough to do follow-up attacks to kill those enemies mages also have the ability to research which isn’t very good what it does is that for the cost of some wood you can increase the variety of houses you could Build as well as the inventory of armories vendors and libraries armories and vendors are self-explanatory what libraries do is that they allow you to learn new skills at the cost of a couple level ups the big reason why i don’t find research useful is that for some god forsaken reason it costs wood Why do you need wood to do research do you need to make paper to write on or some anyway next up is the alchemist class um i think they can make with the poison flowers on the ground which uh yeah you can pick up flowers on the ground some Of them are cure leaves some of them are toxic but yeah i never tried to make anything with the flowers more importantly what alchemists can do is they can heal you lastly there’s a transporter class which is complete dog they can’t fight and they only serve to transport Items and units across the map using their high mobility you may recall that that was the class i chose for the beginning of the game yep not my wisest choice one of the first issues i noticed while playing this game is also unfortunately one of the most infuriating Whenever you end a unit’s turn the game freezes for about two seconds i don’t know what causes it but it’s really frustrating beyond that any button you press during this freeze period gets buffered so you’ll end up opening up menus and checking unit stats purely by accident another issue that pissed me off Was the fog of war now i’ve never liked fog of war but when every unit on the map has much more mobility than your vision you will constantly be walking into death traps that you had no way of foreseeing i remember a specific instance near the end of my run Where i walked only a couple spaces forward and that put me in the range of two fighters they proceeded to inflict status effects on me that prevented my units from healing themselves it felt like such a dick move in spite of these problems there’s a lot i like about this submission as well For example from 225 was very careful to where he planted resources trees for example are sparsely scattered across the map so in order to build houses to increase your prosperity you are encouraged to explore as much as you can that’s another thing i like there’s a lot of paths in this map which Means that each playthrough can be different if you so choose overall really great concept just not the best execution it would be interesting to see what this looks like if the flaws were ironed out further the concept has a lot of potential so if everyone were to make a full-length game Of this concept with further expansion on it it would probably be pretty neat if the shaky execution doesn’t turn you away i’d highly recommend checking it out anyway that’s it see ya Video Information
