Welcome to Roughly Enough Items! This mod adds the ability to easily search for what an item is used for, in both mods and vanilla. Now, before we get started, it’s important to clarify a few things. There are several mods that are generally the same thing and have been ported over to various versions. This includes Too Many Items, Just Enough Items, and Not Enough Items. You can watch this video for any of these mods and it will be exactly the same, unless stated otherwise.
What is an Item Used For?
Let’s say you’ve just found a new item and have no idea what it’s used for or if it’s useless. For example, let’s pick a piece of redstone. If you hover over the item and press ‘U’, you can see the uses of the item. You can see what is crafted using this item, as well as use the various tabs at the top to see what happens when you put this item into other machines such as a brewing stand or an Industrial Centrifuge from the mod Tech Reborn.
How Can I Get This Item?
Now, let’s say you want leather, but you aren’t sure if there is a better way to get it instead of killing cows. You can search in the search bar at the bottom of the screen for the word ‘leather’ and then simply left-click on the piece of leather on the right or press the keybind ‘R’. This will show you how to get leather, such as crafting it with rabbit hide or using a chemical reactor also from Tech Reborn.
Speed Up Crafting
Now that you know how to find recipes, you can use this new process to speed up crafting. If you have the items you need in your inventory for a recipe, you can click the item on the right side of the screen and click the plus sign to bring the items from your inventory and place them into the crafting grid. Then you can simply grab the item out of the crafting table to craft one item of that recipe. You can also hold shift when clicking on the plus sign to attempt to craft as many of that item as you can based on the items you have in your inventory.
Save to Bookmarks
If you have several items you want to craft but don’t want to keep searching them up, you can hover over any recipe you want to save and press the keybind ‘A’ to save it to your bookmarks on the left side of the screen. You can also click and drag an entire recipe and save that in your bookmarks.
Search for an Item in a Chest
If you want to find an item inside of a chest or inside of your inventory, you can double click the bar at the bottom and type the item you are looking for to find it.
Minimize REI
If you ever want to minimize all of REI, you can simply press CTRL and O, and it will minimize it to save some screen space.
Advanced Configuration
You can search for all items by a certain mod by typing the ‘@’ symbol and the mod name, such as ‘@techreborn’. You can also search for tags by typing the ‘$’ before a tag, such as ‘$logs’ to search for all logs. If you want to search for something with spaces, you can place the entire search inside of quotes. If you are looking for recipes that have apples or logs, you can search ‘apple | $logs’ and it will return both of those searches.
Configuring Appearance
You can change the search bar to the bottom middle, bottom left or right, or top left or right by hovering over the crafting table on the bottom of the screen and then hovering over ‘Search Field Position’. You can also do more advanced configuration by hovering over the gear, then ‘Display Settings’ and changing various settings in this section.
Cheating
You can enable cheating if you have cheats enabled, are in creative mode, or are an op user on a server. This will allow you to left-click on any item in REI to get it or shift left-click to get a stack of that item. You can also drag items into REI to delete them.
In conclusion, Minecraft Roughly Enough Items fabric is a simple mod that allows you to search for recipes in both mods and vanilla. You can use Roughly Enough Items fabric to also speed up crafting, save recipes, and help you through very complicated modpacks.
