It’s crazy. It’s funny, like some people have said like, “Oh, oh it started to get popular when they die!” (Laughs) Polygon were the first to do an article on it, and then PC Gamer did an article, and then the BBC picked up on it and Contacted me through Twitter. So it appeared on television, radio and after that it was just … the the week following was crazy, just interviews calls, emails, everything. It’s like the one moment in my life I wished I had a manager. (Laughs) Oooh, that smells good. So we’ve just finished a bunch of construction, pretty nuts. I guess I would present myself as like a part-time streamer/YouTuber that could go full-time soon. So I’m Phil Watson, my alias online is Ph1LzA, and I do Twitch streaming and YouTube videos of all the things that I create in Minecraft. Hey guys, welcome to the stream, how’s it going? So I have a crew here, they’re recording some stuff, all about the Minecraft Hardcore mode, all about my five-year world’s death (laughs). So Hardcore mode is basically just the hardest difficulty of the game, with one life. So, you’re playing against harder enemies that do more damage. It just kind of felt like everything you did was a lot more significant, and everything you Accomplished had more weight to it, cos you did it all on one life and it’s cool to look back and look at all these cool things that you did on that one life on the hardest difficulty. Woah, woah! Yes! It worked! Yes! He’s done! He’s done. Absolutely cakin’ it. This might be the last time we see everything in this world. I might die. It’s a very high possibility. Yes! Right, so we’ve got some sponge… I think we’re good. I think we’re good! My first, first world I ever played only lasted like a day. (Laughs) Because as soon as the night came I just I was not ready, I was not prepared. And like the second attempt that lasted for about a year, and then my hard drive died. Didn’t do any backups because I’m an idiot. (Laughs) And then after that you You guys see the the five-year stint that I had, that was like the last, the last one, so. That was a pretty long stint. (Laughs) During my five years of playing in that world I walked, like six thousand three hundred and sixteen kilometres, I flew With the Elytra wings, seven thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight kilometres, and jumped, by like hitting the spacebar, seven hundred and thirty two thousand three hundred and eighty-nine times! (Laughs) That was fun, reliving that again, yeah great! (Laughs) Oh yeah, so the way the whole death thing happened, I think it was a Wednesday. So I like I just flew in, and was gonna make a beacon and that’s like if you have to dig like a hole straight down essentially, so I started digging and I was like five blocks down and we hit a cave and there was a lot of enemies down There. And once I cleared most of them I heard a baby zombie to my left, and I assumed it was just a normal baby zombie but when I dropped down to kill him he was in fact enchanted golden armor, he was not gonna go down easy! (Laughs) And there was a creeper, So I had to kind of manage him, keep him away, keep him from exploding, taking more and more damage and before I realised it, my health had already been put to half, so I tried to run away and I got met with the spider. Once I realised how low my health was it was too late. Noooooo! Really?! That’s how I die?! Oh my God, I’m **** stupid, I’m **** stupid! So I remember when it happened, it was like a mixture of shock, disbelief, depression, and like acceptance. (Laughs) Like I didn’t even want to play Minecraft anymore, at that point, I was just so down. I just went straight to bed and fell asleep (laughs). I was like, out like a light. Well after it happened, it was just like, The support was crazy. I thought I was gonna get ridiculed, I thought it was just gonna be like a goofy, goofy joke for the month, you know, but it turned out to be, like everyone turned out to be so supportive, and like encouraging. The whole streaming And YouTube thing has just gone completely crazy. I’m getting thousands of viewers now, instead of just like five or ten. My subscribers have gone from two thousand to two hundred thousand, so it’s… it’s absolutely insane. [PH1LZA] Good boy! Everything kind of snowballed really and just took off, and he was like oh This person’s coming, oh I’m doing a BBC interview and I was like, what? What’s this about? Why? (Laughs) [JANICE] Oh yeah, it was a bit bemusing at first. [PH1LZA] What happens now is I’m trying to do this full-time, which is crazy to think about, like absolutely nuts, because I’ve Always done this as like a hobby, like I didn’t care about getting tons of views, that wasn’t … it was never my goal, it was all just what I enjoyed watching, and putting it out there and just creating this stuff and then streaming on top of That was really fun. And yeah, it’s crazy to think that a hobby that I’ve had for so long, could become my full-time job. Like that’s nuts! (Laughs) [JANICE] Everything is possible isn’t it? I mean I know how much he loves doing it, it Would be like his dream come true to be able to do that. [PH1LZA] Yeah! Yeah it would be great if he could do that and follow his dreams really, isn’t it? You know, who wouldn’t? Video Information
