WHAT WAS SHOWN AT “MINECRAFT LIVE 2023”
The annual Minecraft Live event took place recently, showcasing exciting updates and new features for the popular game. Unlike previous years, this year’s event was concise and focused, providing fans with a jam-packed hour of announcements and reveals. Let’s dive into what was shown at Minecraft Live 2023!
Minecraft Legends and New DLC
One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of Minecraft Legends, an upcoming update that introduces new adventures and a unique companion – the witch. Players will be able to ride frogs and witness the witch casting potions at piglins. Additionally, two new DLC packs were announced, including a Star Wars-themed pack for Minecraft Bedrock and the third installment of the “Planet Earth” DLC for both Minecraft Education and Minecraft Bedrock.
Exciting Announcements for Minecraft’s 15th Anniversary
The Minecraft Live event also reminded fans that the game will be celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024. While specific details were not revealed, the developers teased that something special is in the works. To commemorate the upcoming milestone, interesting statistics were shared on the official website, such as the number of wolves tamed daily, the number of cakes created, and the distance traveled on pigs (for some reason). It’s clear that Minecraft continues to captivate players worldwide.
The Highly Anticipated 1.21 Update
While Minecraft Live showcased other exciting announcements, the main attraction was undoubtedly the 1.21 update. Following the same strategy as the previous year, the developers presented only what was ready for the event, with plans to add more features throughout the year. The update focuses on combat and adventures, introducing a new structure called the Testing Chamber. This structure consists of randomly generated rooms filled with treasures, traps, and challenging trials. The Testing Chamber is constructed using new decorative blocks, including copper bricks and blocks made from copper.
Two notable additions to the game are the copper lamp, which emits dimmer light as the copper oxidizes, and the revamped spawner, now known as the “spawner 2.0.” The spawner adjusts the number of mobs it spawns based on the number of players nearby, providing a dynamic and challenging experience. Players can defeat all the mobs in the spawner to receive rewards, and after a cooldown period, the spawner can be looted again.
Within the Testing Chamber, players will encounter a new mob called the Breeze. This friendly yet hostile mob attacks enemies with gusts of wind. While the wind itself doesn’t deal damage, a direct hit can cause damage. Interestingly, the Breeze’s wind can interact with redstone mechanics, adding a new layer of complexity to Minecraft’s gameplay.
Another exciting addition showcased at Minecraft Live was the Crafter block, confirming the long-awaited arrival of automatic crafting in Minecraft. The Crafter block allows players to load a recipe and, upon receiving a redstone signal, outputs the crafted item. Players can also block certain slots to prevent unwanted items from being crafted. These new features will be available for players to test in upcoming snapshots and betas.
The Voting Controversy
One of the most talked-about moments of Minecraft Live was the voting process. Players had the opportunity to vote for a new mob, and the results were surprising. The penguin, unfortunately, received the fewest votes, with only 25.2%. However, it was later discovered that someone had exploited a vulnerability in the voting system, artificially inflating the votes for the winning mob, the armadillo. Despite the controversy, the voting process added an element of excitement and engagement to the event.
The Minecraft Live event concluded with a live performance by singer Alec Benjamin, adding a touch of entertainment to the proceedings. Overall, Minecraft Live 2023 was a thrilling event that showcased the game’s ongoing evolution and the developers’ commitment to delivering exciting updates and features to the Minecraft community.
