Minecraft 1.17 Caves And Cliffs Update! New Mobs, Ores, Caves, Biomes & More! All New Features!

Hello everyone sunly here and welcome back to another minecraft video of minecon live 2020 just went down and that was an hour and a half of a pure insanity amazing announcement one after the other the 1.17 caves and cliffs update has been announced toy cat is going to just explode with excitement

And so is everyone else once you know what is actually in this update this update is chock full of amazing amazing features of course massive cave update with cave biomes new huge cave generation updates and changes amazing variation in all the different caves that you’ll see we’re also getting

Lots of new mountain generation new hostile mobs allure archaeology system plants pets items blocks inventory solutions redstone and wireless redstone new ores new crafting recipes and so much more i can’t list everything in the intro so you’re just gonna have to watch through this video and see what was

Announced at minecraft live 2020 it is a massive update coming in the summer of 2021. one thing mojang really specified during this event is community feedback they want to hear from you they want to know what you think about these features and once we start getting betas and

Snapshots for the caves and cliffs update they want your feedback they want to make sure that everyone is happy with this update and that everything is as best as it possibly can be so make sure to give your feedback to mojang about all these different features and you can

Also let me know what you think down in the comments as well there are so many things to think about this update it is really quite the awesome update there are three main pillars and foundations to the 1.17 caves and cliffs update number one is mountains and goats they’re going to be completely

Overhauling the mountains and of course adding goats as well we’ll talk about that more in the later parts of this video the second one is adding strategy and new mechanics to mining and gathering resources underground seriously you’re gonna have to really pay attention when you go mining now

There’s a lot of new stuff to pay attention to underground and they also want to add an underground of marvel variation contrast and building underground is a massive part of this update this update pretty much guaranteed has something for every single play style so let’s talk features

Shall we first up is cave generation caves are getting the biggest overhaul that we’ve ever seen mostly because we’ve never seen any overhaul but seriously there is a lot of really cool stuff here first of all there’s going to be like 10 000 more variety and shape

And size to all of the caves underground if you really like the old caves the current caves that we have in minecraft those are still going to be around as well but basically there’s going to be like a million different kinds of unique caves underground which is going to be

So amazing to explore and walk around in caves can also have these local water levels so you’ll have like different water levels inside your caves allowing for cave rafting with boats and so much fun exploration with waterfalls and just so much cool splunking happening everywhere some caves are big enough to

Literally fly through for a long time with your elytra there’s caverns and all kinds of amazing things as you can see in this footage the new cave shapes and sizes are actually independent of the new cave biomes as well so some biomes would be like really small and cramped

And not much space for instance the lush caves which we’ll talk about in a second and some cave biomes are really giant and really open as well so there’s gonna be so much variation every single cave is gonna be incredibly unique there’s gonna be more cave variation than there

Is variation to the overworld so if you imagine all the different biomes and all the different variation there is on the surface caves are going to have even more than that also as a little note in this footage you’ll notice that the ores are glowing that’s not actually going to

Be in the final update they simply added that so we could see the size and the shapes of these caves of course we’re also going to have a new cave of biomes in the show they announced three new cave biomes the first one is the lush caves these are more of a cramped

Smaller cave system with so many new types of plants starting off with a new acelia tree that you can find on the surface this is kind of like a flowering tree and if you go down the roots of it you’ll find yourself in one of these

Lush caves inside of the caves you can find the spore blossoms which are larger pink flowers with lots of particles surrounding them and you can actually move these flowers around to have particles anywhere that you want which is really awesome there’s also the glow vines hanging from the ceiling with

Little glowy orbs on them which are also a really cool light source light sources in these caves is going to be a really big deal because that allows you to actually see all the new features and fully experience them to the maximum there’s also a new drip leaf plant as

Well this is a plant that you can stand on top of for a time before the leaf actually collapses under your weight and drops you down however that leaf will spring up over time allowing you to stand back on top of it again so it’s kind of like a parkour scaffolding that

Resets itself a really really cool little mechanic overall there’s just a lot of new plants in here which is going to be so fun to explore with and build with including one layer tall leaves that you can see in the footage basically carpets that are leaves this is a terraformers dream

These are gonna get used so much absolutely everywhere and you know it’s true the next cave biome is the drip stone caves these are really nice open spacious biomes with stalagmites growing from the floor and stalactites onto the ceiling hopefully i have that the right way around anyway if you break the

Stalactites from the ceiling they’ll actually fall down and crash to the floor so they are affected by gravity if you break their base attached to the ceiling i presume that when they fall on something they’ll deal damage to it because when you fall on a stalagmite

They’ll actually deal a lot of damage to you as you can see in the footage it killed a zombie outright and he didn’t really fall that far so these are basically spikes that we can use in a variety of different ways presumably also the drip stones on the ceiling trip

Down water droplets that you can use to fill a cauldron so it’s basically a new type of infinite water source that’s also going to add a ton of ambience as well overall this is probably like the most modded cave just because it looks so different than your typical minecraft structure

The third and final cave biome that they announce is the deep dark this is a new extremely scary cave biome that you’ll have to be very very careful when exploring you can see the very darker colored skulk blocks on the floor we don’t know much about those yet but we

Can only assume evil things there’s also the skullca sensor which will sense vibrations in the air and emit a redstone signal we’ll talk more about that later as well in this footage you can also see candles on the floor which is really awesome a new type of dungeon

New cobblestone looking things in the wall and a new fading blinking light effect that you can see in the footage as well which is very very atmospheric and leads us into our first new mob of this update the first ever blind mob is being added to minecraft and this is a

Very scary very powerful strong mob this guy cannot see you but it will detect vibration like the skulk sensor they want to recreate the first night of minecraft with this mob where you’re scared alone and you have no idea what’s happening so yeah this thing is scary it’s it’s very atmospheric it’s

Basically like a horror game especially when you’re in the deep dark biome it seems like the warden can kind of detect where you’re at using the heartbeats which you can hear in the footage as well these things are incredibly strong the player in this footage was wearing a full netherright

Armor and they got killed in just a couple of hits so finding this thing isn’t really going to be the best tactic it’s better to distract it using vibrations such as from a snowball as you can see in the footage as well another feature from the deep dark is

The skulka sensor this is a brand new redstone component that is not at all similar to the observer this thing it detects vibrations in the air vibrations can be from anything moving so the player moving footsteps flying snowballs arrows blocks breaking anything like that and then once it detects a

Vibration it actually emits a redstone pulse and another vibration as well allowing for wireless redstone as you can see there to prevent feedback loops you can actually use wool to block vibrations from hitting the skulk sensor which is incredibly convenient as well this is going to be used for all kinds

Of really really cool things basically everywhere this thing is going to have so many uses for traps contraptions secret entrances activations you name it the skulk sensor is going to be used for it another awesome thing that you’ll be able to find on the ground is these crystal rooms with

Amethyst geodes that glow these things are incredibly rare and renewable they grow from the crystal blocks that you can see in the floor and whenever you step on them they’ll make this amazing sound this is a new unobtainable block so you will not be able to move these crystal

Blocks around to grow crystals anywhere you’ll have to specifically go to these locations to acquire and farm your crystal shards which you get from breaking crystals these new structures have been compared to mob spawners so they’re basically just going to be sprinkled around and they’re going to be

Rare the crystal shards can be used to craft a new telescope which is a very interesting thing that basically just allows you to zoom in similar to optifine so that’s more or less the cave part of the update but what about the cliff side of the update well that is

Where the mountains come in a couple of years ago at minecon we voted for the mountain biomes to be completely redone and they have put a lot of work in this and mountains are completely being changed in just about every way that you can imagine as you can see from this

Little bit of footage that we have so these things are going to be much higher much taller they’re going to have height dependent generation so at different levels there’s going to be like trees and different kinds of foliage and plants and then higher up you’ll have like rocky terrain snowy terrain ice

Patches and really cool things like that they’re also of course adding a snowier snow and a powder snow which is kind of a trap powder snow looks like normal snow but if you step on it then you’re basically gonna fall through it which is pretty interesting and kind of what we

Assumed overall mountains are going to be much much taller than normal and i’m also kind of hoping that they have their own custom cave biome that would be so cool furthermore we’re also getting goats in this update as well which just going to make it dark i’m very happy

Here’s of course the goat these things can jump extremely high and bash mobs off of these cliffs as well they got some range on them overall these things are super cute and just look adorable moving back underground for a second we have a brand new ore in this update and

That is the copper ore with this new ore brings a new type of generation and that is ore veins these are much larger patches of the copper ore so instead of finding like five or six copper you’ll instead find probably around 20 or more copper in a single vein which makes this

A pretty plentiful resource to find in your world you can turn these coppers into copper blocks stairs and slabs which you can then use for building a really cool mechanic of the copper blocks is that over time they will decay from the orange color into the green copper color which is incredibly cool

These are really awesome looking blocks but it will take a very long time for them to change color as you can see in this time lapse it’s basically a couple of weeks in game time so several hours probably around six or so hours irl which is incredibly cool to

See the copper can of course be used to craft the telescope as well and also the lightning rod the lightning rod will of course attract lightning anytime there is a thunderstorm the third new mob that was announced with the cave and cliff update is the oxalotal this is the

Cutest predator that you will ever see they swim around and can be found in the lusha cave biome and you can actually scoop them up in a bucket because of course you can you can bring them along with you and tame them on ocean adventures and they’ll actually attack

Mobs for you kind of similar to a dog however these guys have a special ability whenever they take damage they will play dead for them to regenerate and when they play dead nothing will attack them if you’re actually good enough with working with them and fighting with them the oxolottals can

Actually heal you during combat as well so these guys not only are incredibly adorable but are also incredibly helpful for underwater combat and of course there’s also the mob vote this year as well this year was an extremely extremely close vote at one point the glow squid was only point zero

One percent ahead of the ice oligar so the moo bloom was eliminated first and then of course the ice oligar was a second so the glow squid won this year’s event overall i think the glow squid has a lot of unique possibilities when it comes to different features that could

Be implemented with it the ice oligar is pretty cool but i don’t know i ended up voting for the glow squid also with the caves it’s going to be very interesting to see the glow squid underwater underground in these caves moving around and glowing lighting up the place being

Atmospheric it’s just going to be a really cool thing to see a brand new system is being added to minecraft with this update as well and that is the archaeology system scattered around your minecraft world you will find an excavation site and with these sites you can find brushes and you can craft

Brushes as well brushes allow you to actually like brush down a dirt gravel and probably other blocks as well to find artifacts but you have to be incredibly careful if you are not careful enough the artifact will break and be destroyed forever within these dirt and gravel blocks you

Can find different pieces of a pottery which you can then combine to try and recreate the original artwork or make your own clay fired pot which is really awesome something that you’ll notice here is that you can actually get different heights of gravel and dirt

Which of course is going to be used a ton for terraforming builders delight basically and you’ll also notice that you can get emerald and diamond blocks and probably a lot more from archaeology now the diamond blocks is basically a diamond farm so we’ll see how that goes i kind of don’t

Foresee that staying in the game because a diamond farm of course is incredibly overpowered at long last we also have some more inventory solutions as well in the form of bundles bundles allow you to put multiple different stacks of items and a bunch of different items into a

Single inventory slot when you hover over the bundle you’ll see what items are actually in it as well with the little icon and basically this is like an inventory only shulker box you don’t need to place down the bundle or anything like that to access the items

Or put more items into it so that is basically everything that we know about the caves and cliffs update as of now as you can see it is a massive update with just countless features that absolutely no one expected i am extremely excited about the deep dark and all of the

Different lore and different fun things that can be done with that churning minecraft into a itsy bitty bit of a horror game could be a really fun addition and i’m seriously looking forward to that let me know your thoughts about this update and what you’re looking forward to most in the

Going to be a cool new wind mechanic that’ll push around players and mobs as well the ice oligar will actually be immune to this wind ravangers are coming to dungeons and so is a new mob called the wind collar that will summon gusts of wind underneath the player launching

Them up into the air and allowing them to take a lot of fall damage they’re also adding a new game mode apocalypse plus that is even harder than regular apocalypse difficulty they found a lot of new ways to change and tweak things to make it slightly more challenging and

More difficult every single time that you play through it it’s not going to be the same constant difficulty it’s going to change every time you play a level which is very interesting there’s also a lot of new paid dlc coming later as well as you can see there’s end themed dlc

Underwater nether themed there’s a lot of cool stuff here that i’m very much looking forward to as well minecraft earth is getting a new update later this month so we can keep our eyes out for that two new mobs are coming and they’re going to make a splash so they’re most

Likely going to be something aquatic i would assume some ford of squid uh they’re also going to be adding a pistons and sticky pistons to minecraft earth 2 so that’s going to be pretty fun a couple of notable things that we did not see this year at minecon was no a

Board game announcements where’s my minecraft board games i want more of these also there was no news about anything ray tracing which is very interesting as well i really expected to see a lot more ray tracing news especially considering that nvidia just released their new graphics cards and

All that good stuff so it’s kind of interesting that we didn’t see either of those things and finally there’s a lot of new things for bedrock edition when it comes to creator tools over the last couple of years they’ve of course been focusing on mobs and entities but now they’re

Pivoting into custom items and custom blocks so now you can make a new custom blocks with lots of fun different possibilities and great unique features there’s also new block models this is actually going to allow for real mob heads and it’s basically the same tools

That you would use to create a new mob you can now use the same tools to create new block models it doesn’t need to be a actual mob head it can be really anything that you want these are custom blocks these are custom items it’s really going to be quite the interesting

Thing you can also have little info cards underneath the item as you can see on the hot bar and you can lock items to a player so they can’t be dropped or lost for adventure maps and whatnot there’s also different structure effects like 3d printing for when you’re filling

Or replacing something with structure blocks and overall just a lot of new things when it comes to add-ons and additions and marketplace things you may have noticed that this year jeb was not there for the actual game announcement he wasn’t there to announce the 1.17 update and that’s because he hasn’t

Really been working on that update they’d like to allow the developers who are mainly focused on those updates to announce it at minecon jab is taking on more of a leadership role overlooking all of mojang and all the different games and projects that we’re working on he isn’t so much working

Hands-on with vanilla gameplay anymore although he is of course dipping his hands into the you know development cookie jar as another fun thing a jab has almost worked 10 years on minecraft his anniversary is coming up in just a couple of months which is a really cool

Thing jeb is honestly just a great guy and really cool and really wholesome and just honestly just the greatest so it’s cool that he’s having a 10-year anniversary here soon and i wish him all the best also he wrote a book for mojang employees that has all the secrets in it

This book will never be shown to the public but i really want to see it and that is pretty much it for this year’s minecon as you can see this update is jam packed with amazing unique and very interesting features i’m especially looking forward to the deep dark and the

Archaeology not to mention just the entirety of the underground of minecraft is getting a 1 000 overhaul so is the surface with these super tall mountains we’re getting new mobs there is just so many really awesome things to look forward to with the caves and cliffs update i cannot
