Foreign How’s it going Minecraft Gamers it’s me your boy Waddles welcome back the latest Minecraft 1.18 prototype made one of the biggest changes to this game ever it’s a big deal today we’re going to down below the first 1.18 prototype dropped a couple of days ago this thing is pretty big news it’s a really big deal this prototype changed basically everything about this game generation is Entirely different gigantic mountains lower Bedrock huge caves yeah you know tons of that stuff they got a ton of focus one thing that did get a lot of focus just a little bit less is this thing right here monsters will only spawn in complete darkness and that’s Huge like really big because that means something like this right here that’s not complete darkness anymore no mobs they’re gonna spawn right by that redstone torch the redstone torch actually becomes a little bit effective at blocking spawns this is a game changer everything is going to be Different well I I guess I should say everything is going to be different if this stays so this current version of 1.18 is the work in progress the generation is really amazing looking if you’ve seen it you know but at the same time it’s pretty crazy the biomes are a Little weird same with the caves same with everything it’s a work in progress everything might change this whole change this whole idea that we’re talking about today might be completely deleted from existence entirely in the matter of like two days you really never know Minecraft 1.18 is basically going To turn Minecraft into essentially an entirely new game you’re still gonna have the same mobs like creepers skeletons and zombies all that type of stuff and the new 1.18 mobs but caves caves are completely changing Minecraft is a game obviously all about mining you go down into the mines you find things And then you use those things for other things perfect explanation uh yeah okay maybe not but when the caves are changing into something that looks like this sometimes even bigger even better even cooler looking yeah everything is gonna have to change mob spawning is a huge deal it’s A big part of this game it’s also been something that’s been pretty much the same for like the longest time if a space is Too Close to You a mob can’t spawn there at the same time if a spot is too far away from you a mob also Won’t be able to spawn there if it’s not a solid block something’s in the way or it’s just the wrong type of black also a mob’s not going to be able to spawn however probably the biggest best and easiest way to predict and control mob spawns has always been light for the Longest time if the light is light enough you could effectively cut out all mob spawns from an area so let’s take this cave for example it’s a pretty big cave but it’s not the biggest if I wanted to cut out all mob spawns in this area of the cave before 1.18 it would Have ended up looking something like this but probably with even more torches I would have needed a lot of light I would need to make the Escape really really bright you see for the most part most mobs in Minecraft won’t be able to spawn if the light level is higher than Seven that’s not always the case there are some instances where it’s a little different but 7 has always been the number pretty much but back to the caves so lighting up a cave in Minecraft 1.17 or any version below that is annoying for sure but it’s really not that bad The caves are kind of small if you’re trying to block spawns it’s just going to require a lot of time how about 1.18 though with the gigantic caves imagine having to light this whole place up to light level 7 or higher I I don’t even want to imagine it it’s gonna take so Many torches instead the work around the perfect work around change how mob spawning works with light after all why light level 7 shouldn’t all light block spawns take this stretch of the mine shaft for example one torch right there one torch over there in the middle it Looks pretty dim but it’s actually a light level of three and four in here three at the lowest that’s gonna be good enough to actually block spawns two torches for this whole area uh expand that to a bigger cave like this that’s really not going to be too bad at all Especially with things like low liking down here every once in a while yeah it’s gonna take a lot of time it always would have though but it won’t take as many torches that’s really good before we get back on track a side product of this mob spawning change means the Lush Caves are going to be a really really welcoming and safe place depending on the height of the biome when you find this thing it’s gonna be bright like nice and bright if it’s not too tall mob spawning shouldn’t be too frequent in here maybe mobs will be able to spawn Over there it does get a little bit taller but somewhere like over here where I’m standing right now it’s technically got a little bit of light so it’s gonna be safe in 1.18 caves will be gigantic it would be insanely annoying nearly impossible even to light all of The caves up under the ground to a light level 8 or higher so your mob farm could work yeah wouldn’t be fun at all to Block Mob spawns with the light requirement of at least eight that’s gonna mean a redstone torch with a light Level of 7 or even a soul torch with a light level of 10. uh yeah not really going to be very effective that’s going to leave us with the normal torch or other things like the normal torch very very bright things a normal torch has a light level of 14. that’s basically We’re going to be the minimum having such a high light level requirement to actually block spawns puts the devs in a pretty tough spot if the devs want to consider adding a brand new light source to the game of course they have to consider its function lighting things up Now most players use light sources to of course remove mob spawns which means the light source for it to be actually effective in use it’s gonna have to be pretty bright like the lantern the lantern has a light level of 15. yeah definitely very very useful unfortunately that’s going to make Things like the soul torch which are bright just not as bright or even the soul Lantern very cool but still not as bright it’s going to make cool things like this a whole lot less useful even the candle for example place a candle down light it on fire just a singular One and you’re gonna have a light level of three it’s dim but in a true survival setting most players aren’t going to use it to make the candle actually useful essentially you’re gonna just need to start with like four candles that’s going to put us at a light level 12 Almost as good as the torch not quite there yet but almost I would say that Lighting in Minecraft works perfectly right now it works in a way that makes a lot of sense you have the light source and then each block away from the light source it’s going to decrease by one Very very predictable it’s always been that way it definitely shouldn’t change this makes sense for everybody small brain big brain young old it’s very predictable and it works it works perfectly it makes sense as you get farther away from a light source it gets less bright however the numbers in its Current state though lighting is very very limited there’s an upper limit and a lower limit that lower limit isn’t even zero the lower limit basically for practical reasons is like eight something very aesthetically cool like the soul torch Soul campfire or Soul Lantern becomes pretty much pointless Because of how dim it is it’s just not effective making less light but still light be able to block spawns is an amazing change chart let’s zoom in on the depths you notice anything missing coal doesn’t exist in the depths right now which means when you’re mining deep Down in your world you’re going to need to either have stacked up on coal or just be ready and bring like a ton of other things like jack-o-lantern sea Lancers I don’t know why you would do that but you would need to there’s no cold down low and I like it that makes It really dark no cold down here it means it’s gonna be really really dark and bad if you run out of torches however this change actually plays into Redstone perfectly so download Redstone generates like basically everywhere it’s very very common if this mob spawning change is made meaning any light can Stop mob spawns Redstone torches are actually effective for caving you could use a redstone torch to light up an area a little bit so you can actually see and actually cut out mob spawns as well the changing of mob spawning to mobs not spawning anywhere that’s lit up is Amazing it actually gives you more options for light sources now is it the most effective light source no way not at all but it is now actually effective light source backup on the surface let’s talk about blocking spawns in current Minecraft 1.17.1 and below so to block spawns Effectively you would need to use these blocks right here pretty much how they’re shown off so like a lantern or a torch those would work uh you could use these blocks right here you could use C pickles under the water but in quantities of four anything less is Ineffective candles uh same thing you need like four these other things are definitely an option too but yeah if you want to cut out Swans in an area this is basically it when it comes to lighting but these aren’t the only light blocks in the game there are so many more light Blocks and options here for example the amethyst cluster did you know that the amethyst cluster actually gives off light and this is a 1.17 thing it’s not much like five but it’s still light amethyst clusters also look so cool they’re a little trickier to get you’re Gonna need so touch but if you have a geode uh look at how cool these things look like as decorations on the ground it’s a particular Vibe for sure but they look really cool the change making mobs only spawn in complete darkness light level zero is an amazing opportunity for Every single light source in the game the ones that are already used like the torch don’t have to be spammed as much the ones that aren’t used at all they actually get used shortly you’ve built a build in this game before most likely I mean not necessarily but but most likely So really quick I’m gonna throw a house together here we’ll give it the green top because of course luxury and we’ll give it a nice door uh of course we don’t want the Outside Inside uh so there we go it’s a simple house before the mob spawning adjustment if we wanted To protect the area around this house it would end up looking something kind of like this kind of like this right here like a lot of torches around the area it’s not the worst thing in the world but definitely not like the best thing it could look a whole lot better after This change we can cut out like almost all of these torches to be honest with the same amount of torches about and not even optimal placing here you get so much more light like it gets so much easier to actually block spawns in an area and it actually makes things like The soul torch an option to the soul torch is not completely useless now it’s actually a cool Blue Torch that’s a little bit more dim but definitely can still block spawns you will have to use more of them but you can actually use them that’s the big thing here another Example this island so let’s say we’re in 1.17 we want to light it up all the way have no response we want to use Soul torches for whatever reason that means we’re gonna need to put like a ton of Soul torches in here to get it really really bright uh honestly we’ll probably Need a little bit more than what I’m doing here but yeah we’re gonna end up needing a ton of Soul torches because they’re not very bright definitely wouldn’t be a smart idea yeah you can add it with something like that definitely wouldn’t really be able to do Much with this uh if you’re worried about mob spawning because there are too many torches now let’s say we’re doing the same thing with the light level zero thing so as long as we can get a little bit of light in this area we’re gonna be Able to actually have this space safe so like this right here that’s a five still that’s still way brighter than we needed we could probably take that out uh-huh uh-huh that’s still looking pretty good we’ll leave that one there that one there definitely could take that one out too Um maybe readjust that one and maybe readjust this one a couple more adjustments later and we end up with something that looks like this these torches spaced out only five of them now cut out spawns on the whole island and I could probably spread them out even more Maybe even cut a couple out if I got a little Smarter with my torch placement maybe more towards the middle but I think I proved my point you need way less torches and you can actually use different things I guess the point of this video is to really just express to You how much I love this change this change is amazing light is actually predictable now if an area is lit up like at all then you can safely say that no mobs are going to spawn there all without having to check the F3 screen for a specific number if you think about Lighting why was light level seven or eight so powerful like why that specific number it kind of didn’t make sense at all if an area is lit up yeah it should probably be safe that would make a whole lot more sense lighting actually makes sense now now will this make the game Way too easy Ah that’s hard to say it’s gonna require a lot of survival testing to be honest this is my biggest concern by far with this whole light level change stuff but to be honest realistically I don’t really think it’s going to change much the surface is very Very dark without any lighting and the caves yeah across the board definitely dark too there are some light patches because of glow like and lava but definitely dark this change opens up so many possibilities for the current light sources in the game but also future light sources too if a light source gets Added to the game it no longer has to be like at least light level 13 to actually be useful Redstone torches become a viable light source down low soul torches can actually get used in the nether for lighting the nether up amethyst clusters get so much more Useful less candles are even better than before every single light source in the game is better but what do you think let me know down below that’s gonna do it for today hopefully I got my point across this change is really good for a couple different reasons it makes mob Spawning actually make more sense lighting makes more sense and it gives so much more use and potential to
