What is the greatest use for the la mob in minecraft that’s right it’s basketball so my friends welcome to the second lay video where we’re going to do a bit more of a deep dive on this mob as i’ve been doing tons of research and figuring out different things you Can use it for how it behaves etc etc but i saw this amazing tweet going around on twitter that cracked me up someone had made a basketball court and was using the la to shoot some hoops and look it scores every single time well pretty much most the time And just to jog your memory or in case you missed it we’ve already done a video on the la however it was a very casual first look and today we’re going to get more into the weeds of how the la works and much of what i’m going to show you Comes from the la jason file inside of the game files which actually gives us tons of information as to how this mob acts and behaves in the minecraft world so before we get into it there’s two things i wanted to mention one is that we got our note block over here hooked Up to a redstone clock and this is good enough to keep the la interested because normally it would forget after 30 seconds however it’s being continuously reminded to use this note block and the second thing i wanted to show you was this pillager outpost unfortunately i Traveled to many of them in the previous video and these cages would always be empty however i’ve now found some with some malaysian they have fence posts on top that cage has two of them inside and this one over here has three and it might seem a little bit cruel to keep Them locked up in cages and inside of the woodland mansion but i tell you what it’s a really nice way to add some simple lore to the minecraft game so let’s get into those details the alley mob is relatively small however its collision box is 0.8 by 0.8 which i Think is rather bigger than the size of a regular block which is one for example an ender chest is like 0.9.9 and unfortunately in bedrock you don’t have f3 and b where you can create an outline around the entity and see the size of its hitbox but essentially it’s Larger than it appears the lay has a breathable value meaning that it can breathe underwater but only for so long and after a certain amount of time it will start to drown and i think the number is literally seconds because 15 seconds later it starts taking damage And it’s dead and as no surprise to anyone but specified in the json files it takes damage from lava and dies now it’s pathfinding will deliberately avoid water but it can also fly over water that is specified so it’ll never fly down into the water if we go ahead and Actually put one underwater something interesting happens it creates a lot of particle effects around itself and it immediately floats upwards look at that that’s really cool that it creates the particle effects when you get to the surface though it just seems to sit on top of it sometimes Okay this time just one of them decided to sit for a moment i think it’s when it’s in both water and air that something goes wrong with its ai and it just kind of sits here another interesting component of its path finding is that it can’t interact with Doors it can’t pathfind past them so if i put the la in the middle here although it looks like there’s loads of empty space for it to fly out it won’t do that it will just sit there in the middle if i open the doors it then tries to fly through it but I’m not sure maybe it’s colliding with the edge of the door and eventually it found its way out but yes closed doors it just looks at them like they’re full blocks the la also has a panic mode which multiplies its speed by two i think this is activated when the lay Takes damage is usually after that its flying becomes erratic and a little bit faster this next part of the video i’m in java edition to give you a visualization of the search distance which is described in the json file as 30 by 30 so if it’s a spherical radius It would be something like this and if this shape were a cube this would be the size of 30 by 30 by 30. and in case it wasn’t clear the search radius is where the la will look for items that it can pick up so the elaine’s behavior is Determined by a priority system which is broken up into eight different parts and i’m pretty sure the way this works is that it cycles through them from one to the last and it starts off by panicking so if the panic condition is met it will do that otherwise it will look for an Item that it can pick up and if it can’t do that then it’ll try and give an item to a note block and if there’s no note block that it’s aware of then it will try and give it to the player so if it can’t panic it’s got no items it’s got Nowhere to give them to then it will simply follow its owner and if it doesn’t have an owner then it will float for a short period of time try and look at a player and then hover in a random direction so this random hovering could Be in a cube or a sphere i’m not entirely sure but if it were a cube it would be something around this sort of scale and look at this we’ve got on a layover here that’s actually just in float mode so it’s just sitting there When we approach it it will then look at us at some point and that will break it out of that spell adelaide was also pretty high up in the air and one thing that i noticed in the code is that they tend to not go too much higher than four blocks above The ground so when you’ve seen them floating around in this video they’re usually pretty close to the ground you don’t see them wandering off up into the sky so some more interesting things about the lay certain block types get grouped into categories for example wall is all Treated the same so i can throw down different colors of wool and the la will bring it to me and uh terra cotta is the same this one will pick up the different colors of terracotta when it’s holding one type of terracotta block so here i have a bunch of different enchanted Books we give one to the la and if i throw different types onto the ground it doesn’t differentiate it’ll pick them up and just bring them back to me and it may look like it picked up more than one at once but if i just stand a distance Back you can see it’ll only get one of these items at a time whereas with other blocks it can bring more than one to me at a time now when the items are spread out the la will pick them up one by one intelligently look at this Goes around picking all the ones up before it brings them to me the player and there we go another thought that i had was about changing which note block the alley is going to interact with so you could perhaps move items from one location with the click of a redstone Button unfortunately here though what you’re going to see is if we turn this off and turn on another one it will continue to interact with this note block over here and essentially it will do that for 30 seconds until it forgets this one and then it can learn the Location of a new one so this could work but you’d have to wait 30 seconds so a lot of you have probably been thinking how can you use the lay as an alternative to water streams and chains of hoppers well when it comes to those designs they’re pretty robust and good At what they’re doing the only one that i think could perhaps be a little easier is vertical elevation so i decided to test the layout with that and that’s when i discovered that when it moves up and down you know it flies really quite slow But it still gets the job done next i wanted to test the practicality of using the la in some sort of farm where it would have to go pick up the items and drop them off i deliberately chose a cactus farm because it can’t pathfind away from the cactus and it Will take damage now the note block is telling it where to put the items but the problem is there’s so many on the ground that it just doesn’t know what to do so eventually that lay died i guess a cactus farm might not be the best choice but we’ve learned something important Here which is how does it handle a lot of items there’s five stacks right there so once its inventory is full then it will go an attempt to drop them off if it misses a shot look at this it shoots one item then it picks it back Up again so the second it shoots one item it’s aware that there’s other items in the area which is not really great for collecting a lot of items at once so just to make it crystal clear what the problem is here once i pick up the rest of the items Then it starts to try and throw all of them at once this gives us some insight into what this would be like in survival minecraft and the reality is the elaine needs a fair bit of work in how it chooses to pick up items and give them to the player because currently it’s Just shimmying one item back and forth over to me so i’ve been over here in this desert just mining like you might in survival mode and really i’m picking up most of the items and this guy is potentially just flying in front of me if you hold down click it won’t actually Attack but if you’re constantly clicking you might accidentally attack the alley there is also the possibility of having more of them i’ve got a little army here but they’re actually just kind of getting in the way of where i’m swinging which is not great either and there will Be multiple items that need picking up as well so i’ve got even more relays now focusing on the sandstone and again you know to make them more useful by having more of them they just they just kind of get in the way and as cool as the alley is i do think that This is kind of flawed at first implementation and it’s going to need some tweaking and changing to get these things working right but anyway i hope you enjoyed the video if you did leave a like and make sure to subscribe if you want to keep up to date with all of the Latest minecraft additions and i’ll see you soon in another video bye-bye Video Information
