How to Make Decorated Pots in Minecraft 1.20
If you’re wanting to personalize your Minecraft buildings or rooms, then consider using decorated pots. These blocks can tell a story through unique patterns on them, as there are 20 different pottery shards available. Finding these items can be difficult, as it requires you to locate specific structures in the Minecraft world. Once found, you’ll have to get lucky and brush off suspicious blocks to maybe get a shard. Due to this process, we’ve created this Apex Hosting video to show you how to make decorated pots in Minecraft!
Finding Shards
Decorated pots are just pottery blocks with unique designs. But before you get too excited, keep in mind that creating all of these designs in survival mode is going to take some time, since finding them is heavily dependent on world generation, and even if you do happen to stumble upon the correct place, you still might not get what you’re looking for.
There are a few key areas in the Minecraft world to find these pottery shards, including trail ruins, desert temples, and ocean ruins. Once you’ve stumbled across one of these structures, it’ll be an obvious spot for digging around. For example, trail ruins have unique blocks that aren’t supposed to be in the biome. Other buildings like temples are going to look normal, but they will have these suspicious blocks inside.
To start excavating the site, you’re going to need to craft a brush. For this, you’ll need one stick, one copper ingot, and one feather. These brushes also run out of durability pretty quickly, so it’s recommended to have a few made before you start.
Once you start digging around in these structures, be on the lookout for suspicious gravel or sand. These blocks have a unique texture that you should be able to spot, but the difference is small, so make sure to keep an eye out. Instead of mining these blocks normally, you’re going to want to right-click on any of these suspicious blocks while holding the brush item. Hold this down until the item drops and check to see what you got. It’s not always going to be something you’re looking for, as you can also get candles, colored dyes, emeralds, and more. Keep doing this for every block that you come across until you have at least four pieces of pottery.
Making Pots
Now that you have the pottery shards, it’s time to make the pots. Take four pieces of the pottery shard and place them in a pattern in the crafting table. Then, you’ll see the patterns come to life on each side. There are a total of 20 different kinds of pottery shards to obtain by brushing off the suspicious blocks, so you can mix and match or keep searching until you find matching pieces to make a pot full of the same design.
And that’s pretty much all you need to know about how to make decorated pots in Minecraft 1.20. The hard part is actually finding the pieces, but if you’re like me, you can always turn on creative mode and give yourself all of the designs that you want. Have fun and happy decorating!
