Minecraft 1.9 Prerelease 3 (Potions & Brewing)

Howdy folks welcome to my minecraft beta 1.9 pre-release 3 video in this episode i’m going to show you the basics of potions and brewing now the pre-release 3 was uploaded yesterday on october 6th and i’ve had a little bit of time to muck around here with potions and brewing

Although the information is very new it’s slowly coming to fruition as people discover what it’s all about there’s something like 2 000 potential potions to brew or something like that there’s a lot of ingredients involved it’s a little bit complex so i’ll do full tutorials down the road this is just an introduction

So let’s get started as you can see here i’ve already built up a little brewing alchemy station in my testing ground area of my tutorial world but the first thing we need to do to get any type of brewing done is obviously we’re going to need to build a brewing

Station and that’s what these little guys are right here so let’s make one go to your crafting table you’re gonna need only three pieces of cobble but you will need a blaze rod these can be found in the nether you’ll have to kill a flaming

Dude to get one those are the new guys that was that were added fairly recently they fly around and shoot fireballs at you and they drop blaze rods so here’s what we have now this is our little brew stand and i’ve already got four made up obviously and here’s how you don’t

Collect brewing stands when you put them down with a sword or a hand or anything other than a pig definitely use your pick it’s the only way to get them back that i’ve discovered so far i haven’t used every tool but there it is so now we need a cauldron

This is really not necessary for brewing but well they made it so let’s use it essentially all this does it allows you to fill up your water bottles but you can use any water source really for this and frankly this is kind of useless because you only get

Three shots at it you’re better off making a infinite water spring but let’s make one anyway like i said they spent the time making the cauldron jeb did so here let’s let’s entertain him so you will need iron out laid out like so and that gives you your cauldron

Stick a collagen over here and then you can fill that with water by just dumping water in you cannot recollect that water with your bucket by the way and then we can fill that up with our glass bottles glass bottles are actually introduced in 1.8 maybe or the first 1.9 pre-release i forget

But anyway to make your glass bottles you take glass blocks not glass panes these have to be the original glass blocks and you arrange them like so and you get three glass bottles i’m just going to make a whole bunch okay now i have 15 glass bottles they’re

Empty and i can fill them with water from the cauldron so essentially to do any kind of brewing your first step is to get bottles filled with water and then you take your bottles of water and then you you distill those bottles of water into three types of base potions now this is

A little confusing and i’m still learning again on my own but the three types are awkward mundane and thick and i’m just gonna fool around here with the uh with the awkward it seems like the awkward is the more basic type of potion brewing so we’re

Gonna stick with that for now so now you take your glass bottle and just right click and you can just hold the stack and just right click like so and these do not stack unfortunately but now we have three full water bottles let’s take our one of the water bottles

Now the way i have my brewing station arranged is i start on the left and i go to the right as i do different things with the potion so here’s where we make a base potion now you need to make a base first because this is where everything begins

You take your water bottles and you arrange them down here well hold on there fella now i the reason i i did this i separated this as the base brewer because the base is always going to be the same ingredient in most cases depending on if you’re making a awkward

Base a mundane base or a thick base right now i’m just going to make awkward awkward just seems like it’s they call it awkward maybe because it’s the lowest grade lowest quality base potion so i’m going to take my water bottles and i’m going to put them in here

It doesn’t matter how you arrange these obviously they just this just creates more for one so we’re gonna get a three to one which is nice if you take one out you’ll get a two to one you take another one out you get a one for one so this is

Going to utilize one nether wart by the way this is another wart which can be found in the nether it’s like uh like mushrooms that grow in the nether and as you can see little bubbies here it’s growing i mean it’s distilling and poof it eats up one wart yum yum and

Then we get three awkward potions that’s so awkward it keeps slipping out of my hand now um now with the base awkward potions we can take these base potions and put them in here and utilize different types of ingredients to make certain types of potions now there’s all kinds of potions strength potions

Um resistance potions swiftness potions there are poisons too there are negative effect potions and i’m not going to get into all of them we’re just going to make a couple getting back to my little station here you’re going to need a lot of storage space so let’s open up this chest and i

Have all my water bottles arranged in a column here separated by the potential ingredients i think there are about right now what nine or ten different ingredients total that you can use in potion brewing so i have my water bottles arranged here i have my awkward potions arranged here

And then i’ve got my mundane potion here and a thick potion here again i’m not going to get to those today but um let’s get some ingredients out here i’ve got three awkward potions let’s make a potion of fire resistance and to do that you’ll need magma cream now i have used an

Inventory editor to get all these ingredients i did not go and hunt for these but this for science i i use i do have to cheat for science because i don’t have time to go out and hunt this stuff down oh all right so we don’t need our base

Brewer anymore now we’re going to go to our potion brewer and obviously any brewer will work this is just the way i’ve organized things to make it easier in my mind now let’s put our awkward potion in if i wanted to make three resistance potions i would do this

And put them all in and i’m going to do that because i’m going i’m actually only going to make two because i’m going to enhance i’m going to enhance um them and i don’t want to waste that awkward potion right now so then we’re going to drop in one magma cream

And let’s step back and we can watch this thing brew you can see right here where it shows little potions pretty cool brewing does not take very long it’s uh i don’t know 15 20 seconds all right just about done keep cooking baby rub a little cream on it there we go now

We have potion of fire resistance potion of fire resistance so we have two of the same thing and as you can see here it shows you the duration of that fire resistance now let’s go over here to our duration extender open that up redstone in a brewing stand on any potion

Will extend it will extend its duration so it makes the effect last longer let me show you how that works while that’s brewing let’s take a look at what i have here the way i have this arranged so all my ingredients there this guy is just um random

Miscellaneous items that i might need for crafting while i’m down here and then over here i have some finished product and i’m gonna have to refill this with water obviously i’m not gonna do that right now and let’s see okay it’s done and as you can see

This is why i have these separate stations by the way i can just walk away i leave the redstone in there for next time so now i have the original potion of fire resistance and the enhanced or extended now i can take these and go to the enhancer

Open that up now glowstone dust will enhance the strength or potency of that particular potion it doesn’t give it any new name and it doesn’t work with everything it only works with things like strength weakness and speed i think there’s a whole bunch of other ones too obviously does not work with fire

Resistance fire resistance just makes you fire resistant so it it’s either on or off so making it more potent is not going to do anything that’s why it didn’t work so let’s test this out now we drink a potion by right clicking and holding it down just like eating food

And it’s gone and over here we see fire resistance and i’ve got three minute duration now watch this ah nothing this potion protects not only me from damage but it also protects my armor isn’t that awesome of course i’m still burning but kind of looks cool but i’m not doing the old

So we know i’m not taking any damage so let’s let the flames go out there we go and let’s um let’s make another potion so now if i drank this one instead of the three minute one i’d have potion i’d have fire resistance for eight minutes let’s put you up there for now

Let’s let’s enhance a strength potion now a strength potion gives me obviously more strength and i it doesn’t show any effect anywhere other than strength here but i think it probably makes you hit harder and again i don’t know all of the effects here you’ll have to go to the wiki to check

That out the wiki is still being updated on like a minute basis every minute somebody’s typing something new about potions but let’s enhance this right now so we can take our potion of strength this one has a three minute duration and glowstone dust will be used

To enhance the efficacy of that so it makes it more potent so let’s for example and i don’t know the numbers i’m not sure of the math but let’s say a standard potion of strength gives me a plus one damage to my striking an enhanced addition may give me a plus

Two or maybe it’s a plus one point five i don’t know i’ll leave that to all the code breakers and here you go so we now have a strength two potion and the duration is actually duration actually went down didn’t actually cut the duration down in half that’s interesting

But it’s now instead of a strength one it’s a strength two i should probably rename this sign upgrader that seems to make more sense so it upgrades that from a level one to a level two and again it doesn’t work on everything so now if i drink my strength two

I’ve got a strength two for one and a half minutes and i would like to go kill something but i’ve turned off the nasty mobs because i i was actually testing this and i had this thing all built up i had uh on normal and a creeper snuck up on

Me and blew up the entire thing i raged i cried i didn’t cry but i did rage all right so let’s uh let’s take a look at something else let’s make another potion we’ve got our bases all set already we should have an awkward let’s put an

Awkward in here let’s put our magma cream away and let’s try um sugar i don’t need all 64 or whatever it was we’ll put in a sugar sugar sugar honey honey sorry so now our sugar is going to turn this awkward base potion into a potion of swiftness i think

I forget i think it’s swiftness let’s go fill up some water and you can fill up these bottles just right click that’s kind of nice so you don’t have to keep moving them around in your hot bar well i get tons of water bottles don’t i let’s get the base going

Yeah i think we’ll make three bases as we’re brewing over here all right potion of swiftness so we have a potion of speed so this increases our speed let’s extend the duration of this guy i’m gonna extend the duration of it and then see if i can also upgrade it to a

Spoke a spotion a spotion of peed exposition of pd2 that that could be bad i would not want to potion a spotion of peed i dread to even think about what that might do to me frankly um these again you’re probably just better off making an infinite spring somewhere but

All right and now we have a potion of swiftness eight minutes and let’s put that guy in here oh good so we’re going to turn it into a potion of swiftness and it’s going to give me an effect of speed 2 would be my guess

Good fun stuff let me tell you this is better than the chemistry set i got from radio shack back in the 70s all right so we have three awkward potions let’s put some of these away let’s make some more while i’m here so i like this this

I don’t know if i’m crazy about having a billion potion combinations because i get confused easily but i like the fact that all these ingredients are a necessity and a lot of them are in difficult places another for example speed okay so this is new to me it did upgrade to

Speed two that’s lovely although the duration was a waste because it cut it down to one and a half anyway so don’t do this don’t do what i did okay learn by my mistakes so don’t uh don’t enhance the duration first and then upgrade it because it ain’t gonna

Work all right let’s try let’s see how fast i can go now i am swift now this is a normal walk speed that is not sprinting so my guess is how many can i jump you can normally jump about four sprinting of course i’ve got to press the

Sprint the jump button first i’m terrible at jumping parkour is not my thing let’s try again i’m running so fast i keep forgetting to jump all right well let’s try sprinting now let’s see how much faster so that’s regular run double tap oh my gosh

Oh i made that one that was like a six jumper i didn’t drink coffee nice now parkour i’m all over the parkour now parkour that’s like the jumping thing so let’s um let’s see yeah so a minute and a half speed two and i wonder if i can upgrade to a speed three

Oh good shift click works there that’s lovely let’s try a speed three let’s put an awkward potion in here let’s try something else let’s make a um that’s strength sugar blaze rod not sure what everything else does well i know gas tear will make a healing potion there’s a regeneration

Potion too which sounds pretty cool i just don’t know how to make it so rather than waste that gas here i guess i’ll just make three of these so again i think this is pretty fun it’s gonna give us a reason to go out to the nether obviously

If you’re not cheating like i am for science projects but i kind of like that idea we’re going to have to go down into the dungeons and to the nether and we’re going to have to find the stuff now if we want to take advantage of the potions

I just hope it doesn’t make everything too easy the potions that is all right so now we have oh these are potions of healing yeah instant health instant health i’m not hurt so maybe i should get hurt there’s a water breathing potion too and as i said i don’t know all of the

Combinations so we’ll have to fool around with that oh wait no we don’t want to do that we want to enhance this thing i’m curious if we can enhance this thing twice so now we’re going to get a health 2 potion which i would imagine heals more damage let’s go get hurt

Lovely glowstone ah mesmerized this just goes against the grain now doesn’t it of course my i am full right now so this oh my health is going to come back naturally oh but i’m gonna go way way down i wonder if the swiftness the speed thing um chews up your underbar faster oh

I have two two i’m too full right now all right that’s good enough let’s get over there quick quick quick quick quick quick oh it’s coming back way too fast potion of healing two that didn’t work hold on i’m gonna sprint around let me get my hunger bar down a bit i’ll be

Right back okay i am back and whoa whoa whoa whoa and i just remembered i was on peaceful too which is why i heal so quickly duh so i just jumped around like uh oh no like a maniac here i guess i don’t need this tree all right well

It’s not going to spread too far this doesn’t destroy my little base over here so here’s what we’re gonna do i’m gonna hop in this water uh the lava right here i’ll get damaged and then i’ve got a potion of healing two all right armor is off whoa

Drink it drink it drink it drink it drink it nice and now i’m going to put the potion of fire resistance see if it counteracts that effect it does good so if you’re burning you can drink oh gosh you can drink the fire resistance quickly and it’ll stop you from burning

At least taking damage so the um instant health potion let’s see how many it does this is of instant health potion too well it does at least four i don’t know you’ll have to check the wiki if you want all the actual math i like that tree i grew up with that

Tree i planted that tree and uh what’s next let’s put my armor back on so i think that’s pretty much it that’s the basics of potions and brewing um i’m not going to get into all the advanced topics now i’ll probably do that another time but there’s a water breathing potions

That i know of there’s a regeneration potion which probably speeds up your healing obviously um and there’s a whole bunch of other ones too so and there’s some negative effect potions as well there’s one that does um weakness and poison and then i’ll do all that maybe in a

Future episode and we’ll talk about the mundane potion and thick potion these are again these are different bases base potions they’re used for something else that i’m not really sure about and we’ll take a look at that later anyway i hope you guys enjoyed this guys
