A while back the Minecraft brand went through a lot of changes specifically with the naming of titles of each game while some people immediately understood the change some people are still asking questions and for good reason after releasing as many versions of the game as they have people of course are having A hard time understanding what these title changes mean heck some of it wasn’t even just a title change as much as a complete overhaul of the game itself as well if you’re wondering if you’re playing the best version of Minecraft wanting to know what options you have or even wondering if there are Versions of the game that you’re not aware of this video is for you hopefully this can help you or somebody you know a little bit in this video we plan on dissecting each major version of the game telling you what’s in them or unique to them and then going from there So without any further ado let’s get right into it Minecraft Java edition Xbox one edition PlayStation 4 edition Pocket Edition the list goes on and on if you’ve been absent from the game for a long time now it may seem confusing to follow Minecrafts current naming scheme but I assure you it’s not too bad once you Wrap your head around it let’s start off with what seems like the most confusing change of all what is minecraft simply put any current version of the game that you see with just the title minecraft is part of the bedrock edition series of the game if you’re unaware of what Bedrock edition is to put it simply bedrock is the name of the engine that the game runs on and dictates that the game is part of the cross-compatible version of the game if you’ve played minecraft on the former Windows 10 edition or forum our Pocket Edition of the game you’re already probably pretty Familiar with this version after a little while though Mojang and Microsoft decided to begin porting this version of the game to as many devices as they possibly could so far the bedrock Edition is on android iOS Apple TV fire OS fire TV Xbox gear VR Windows 10 Windows 10 mobile and Nintendo switch while these versions fall under the title minecraft and bedrock edition all of these versions of the game except for the Apple TV one are known as the better together versions by playing on any of these devices specifically using the Minecraft titled game where it has no subtitle below it You are able to play with any person on any device that also just shows Minecraft on the title screen with no subtitle when in doubt just look at the title screen itself DLC from each platform will also transfer over between all versions of the game if you bought DLC on your Windows 10 version of the game you’ll find it on your switch Xbox and so on and so forth this is also why the PlayStation 4 edition of the game likely isn’t going to be converted to the bedrock addition because of Sony’s complete disregard for the idea of Cross-platform downloadable content the treatment of police station for fortnight accounts is a prime example of this right now the minecraft title seems to be a main focus for Mojang alongside the Java Edition and speaking of the Java Edition just like the bedrock edition the classic first version of the game also Got a name change nothing for the game itself is different the engine is all the same your old worlds are still there you can still jump between older and newer updates but the games title is the only thing that’s new instead of just being known as minecraft like it Previously was the games title was switched to being minecraft Java Edition giving up its original identity for the sake of simplifying everything for all of the other cross compatible versions the game is just simply known as Minecraft Java edition for players who want the experience that they had years Ago on their computers Minecraft Java Edition is the closest one that you’ll get if you’re wanting to play with your friends on Xbox Nintendo switch or other versions while you play in your computer play the bedrock edition of the game the Java edition of the game is available on Windows Mac and Linux if you’re at your local game store and you see either minecraft with the subtitle Xbox one edition or just mine but for the Xbox one which one should you get if you guessed just minecraft you guessed right but why simply put all other subtitled versions Of the game are known as the legacy console editions Xbox 360 edition Xbox one PlayStation 3 PlayStation 4 PlayStation Vita Wii U and Nintendo switch all have their own different versions of the game these versions are more or less out of date if they have a subtitle while some of these versions Are still getting updates they’re way less frequent and honestly not worth purchasing in their current States if you’re somebody who uses a PlayStation console as your means of gaming you’ll sadly not be able to update to just minecraft while unfortunate it’s primarily the fault of Sony for not Wanting to do cross play with anybody in the console race in my opinion if they don’t get their act together soon they’re going to lose out big-time and finally a few weird versions and pieces of information something extremely important to note about the Apple TV Version of the game is that it is a bedrock edition variant of the game however because it doesn’t allow cross play it’s still known as the Apple TV version this should not be confused with a legacy edition of the game if you want the bedrock experience on an Apple TV You can have it just don’t expect to play with your friends on Xbox or other consoles a new Nintendo 3ds edition of the game also exists this version as indicated by the fact that it has a subtitle in its name can only be played on new Nintendo 3ds systems and not on Any of its earlier predecessors using the C stick of the new units minecraft new Nintendo 3ds edition is certainly cool but as it sits this version of the game is only compatible with other new Nintendo 3ds editions as far as multiplayer is concerned another interesting version of the game is the Education edition primarily used in schools this version of the game is used to teach students lessons curated by their teachers these lessons can range from history to math to music science and more the bedrock edition of the game has an education edition demo of sorts that You can mess around with and have fun with it’s worth checking out and we do have a video on the matter that I’ll link on the top right of the screen so what do you think do you have a better understanding of the naming scheme now is it still confusing which of these Versions are your favorite let me know in the comment section down below but other than that that just about does it for me for now if you guys enjoyed
