Hello ladies and gentlemen my name is axionerv and welcome to the very first episode of our minecraft build academy series fireworks and applause hopefully hopefully it doesn’t go too bad so anyway if you haven’t seen my video before i posted this video that you’re watching right now This series is going to be about build theory build advice build tips it’s not going to be a step-by-step tutorial on on a build this is going to be a way of a series where you guys can learn how to build your own creations hopefully i’m a good teacher Uh hopefully this goes well so if you enjoy the video make sure to leave a like share with your buddies favorite it helps immensely immensely it helps so much so make sure you do that and subscribe if you haven’t already and let’s get started shall we Today’s video is going to start off with the bear basics before you even start building right we’re getting up we gotta choose the materials that we’re gonna start building with so that is today’s video and i want to start by asking the question why do we choose the blocks that we Choose right this is a difficult question to answer believe me believe you me i’ve recorded this video 20 times 20 times i can’t get it right so hopefully this will be the good one so why do we choose the blocks that we choose well there are a lot of different Factors that go into choosing blocks right we can start off with the two most basic color and texture now every block every single block in the game in the game even stairs and slabs can be categorized by the color and their texture all right that’s just the basic kind of thing so Keep that in mind when we go through and choose your blocks you want to watch about for the color how it contrasts with other blocks that you are choosing and the uh texture of that block with whatever style that you want to build in all right see like uh medieval uses Rough textures modern uses smooth textures can you can use rough textures as well but mainly smooth so uh keep that in mind when you’re choosing i gotta kill this bad damn it i’ll leave you i’ll let you live now damn it i’ve killed like 50 of them so Anyway let’s move on to the next point now besides color and texture there are color a couple other factors that go into choosing blocks right if you want to build something that is maybe is sort of a historically accurate you can uh factor in authenticity with your block choices or or logic Right i mean you’re not probably not going to build your entire medieval house out of wool right they just they’re just kind of stupid that’ll burn down so i mean you wouldn’t put that in there or um or build the entire house out of stone bricks that just it’s not really It’s not really uh plausible i guess of course we can’t and you can build a completely historically accurate house in minecraft for medieval wise uh but it’ll look good a little crappy it’s just there’s no detail completely flat so we have to bring in other Materials to uh to make it to spruce it up a bit to make it look a bit nicer to add some detail and some depth so uh that’s the other factor so authenticity or plausibility of that that block having been used in the past besides that there is uh Depth to factor in the depth of a of a texture let’s take a look at for instance um bricks or even stone bricks will be better as you can tell by the texture we have a uh we have a sort of a light grayish color for the entire block and Then we have these darker gray lines that go around that kind of mark off different uh bricks that would make up the stone brick right this this little darker line adds a lot of depth to just this texture and it makes it look like uh these little bricks that are stacked on Each other are kind of popped out a bit they sort of uh sort of laid on there and this is sort of the seam it’s kind of like a little bit deeper than these uh blocks right here on the edge it’s kind of hard to describe but just having this flat it Looks like it has some depth even though it’s the completely flat wall so keep that in mind same thing with bricks or even cobblestone has that same kind of look if you stand far away if you stand close up it looks like crap far away it looks pretty good so Anyway there’s also the detail part of texture so you can see with your wood blocks it’s these darker lines and lighter lines have a sort of effect on this texture to make it look like bark of a tree this is a lot of detail and just this flat texture Just by using different colors in it so uh those are all i think one that was like four or five factors factor into why we choose our blocks so let’s get into choosing the blocks now the main point of the video here uh i’m going to start off We’ll have these first few videos focusing around a medieval house since that’s what i have more experience in so uh when you start off building a medieval house right you want to choose three main blocks that you want to use right we’re not going to use only three We’ll use more than three but there’s three main blocks there are three main roles that we have to fill and we’re going to choose blocks to fill that role all right first roll roll first roll is a structural support block or a block that will if physics were added into Minecraft would support the walls or the roof as you can tell usually medieval builds use wood a wood pillar as their support structure block like this is oak wood of course you can use any other wood but we use these blocks mainly because uh one they are I guess a plausible material and two their texture or the detail of the texture lends itself to a sort of support structure type of block as you can see these uh these dark lines that make a um a bark texture sort of uh add a lot of vertical verticality to that block Now that’s mumbo jumbo but anyway you kind of get what i’m going at here we’re going to use a wood block to fill our what was the roll uh our support structure block now roll number two is going to be our dominant wall block as you can see right here we have a Stone brick dominant wall block or cobblestone now we’re not going to have our entire wall made out of this material but it’s it’s usually a good idea to have that material in mind so where you have your walls are similar and they it’s sort of a continuity of uh Of design around your build so every wall would have a support structure block and main wall block so those two are taken care of and our third point is kind of basic and easy just our roofing block so we’re going to use oak wood stairs for that You can choose whatever you want just the material that you will want to make your roof out of of course you don’t have to put downstairs down you know oak wood planks or something but basically our black will be variations of this black for the roof of course you Can see here we used stairs slabs probably some oak wood plank blocks down the line but mainly we’re using that this block and its variations so right here those now those are our three main blocks now apart from those we can add on our detail blocks the blocks that we will Use to add detail add depth and add some color to our build so let’s go and think of blocks that we used over here as you can see our our main wall block was stone bricks we used cobblestone as our detail block underneath our windows we also use wind glass panes for our Windows any block would kind of work maybe fences or something would also be good in this in this sense buttons is also a good detail block and wool also adds a lot of a nice color to our to our build so we can put these blocks down here So we use you know glass panes for detail buttons wool uh stone bricks possibly now all these when we’re choosing these blocks are we’re thinking about the points that i’ve said you know just a while ago plausibility detail texture color now our sort of color contrasting stuff That we went over in the beginning plays a huge role when uh we choose our wolf for instance for our detail block on the second floor we change the time real quick so as you can see we used white wool right here and white wool is sort of a Middle ground right we want to choose something that’s contrasting to the wall a little bit but sort of similar in the same in the same respects right we have our our light oak wood right here uh light gray for our stone bricks a grey color for our cobblestone And our light color for our roof and our wool is also a light color but it’s it’s a a very white right it’s it’s sort of there’s no color right there now we could say for instance choose black wool and let’s go in over here and just place these so you can see Black wool contrasts way too much with our wall right it’s it’s so contrasting your eye gets drawn to it immediately it’s like a elephant in the room for this build all the other stuff is is similar in color but contrasting a little bit and that’s just way out in left field right now We can choose light gray as well no stop dang it uh and light gray you would think maybe match kind of well it’s light in color but the problem with light gray is that it’s too similar to our other colors right it’s it’s gray but our cobblestone is also gray and our Stone bricks are also gray so we have too much gray in this wall see it’s even when you stand far away it almost looks as if the second floor is all one one block it’s it’s it blends in way too well and we have these little cobblestone blocks right here you can’t Really tell from from far away that those are even there so picking a color that’s a nice contrast but uh also similar in the same sense is good for a uh for a detail block now let’s go over some of the other detail blocks that we have over here we Also have stairs stairs are an enormous enormous detail block to use uh they add a ton a ton of not only uh textural and in color contrast but a uh a good what’s the word i’m looking for a good uh it’s just it’s not a whole block there we go It’s a good it’s a good you know size cut difference that’s that’s a word i just i’m out of words for this jeez slabs also are very good in that sense and so are fences as well and i just threw that out of my inventory or you Know iron bars or other stuff that uh that isn’t a whole block like us like some of these are so other than that it’s pretty much kind of the basics of our detail blocks and our wall blocks so when you want to start off your build is it’s good to have these Sitting here uh to kind of see what you’re gonna well you may we might not even use all these blocks but uh it’s nice to have them here to see uh what kind of blocks that we might be using so hopefully this tutorial or this not this tutorial so hopefully this video this First video was was easy enough for you guys to follow it’s very difficult to start off with it with a horrible horribly hard question of you know why we use the blocks that we use it’s much easier to kind of start off somewhere else but this was very interesting To make a video on hope you guys liked it if you did make sure to leave a like and favorite share it around and subscribe if you haven’t already to help support this series i would love to continue this series but if there’s no if there’s No demand for it then i’m i’m just not going to so thank you guys for watching next video we’ll go over floor planning and walls and uh we’ll take it from there so thank you so much for for watching and i’ll see you guys next time see you later Video Information

Hey guys, welcome to the first episode of the minecraft build academy series. This will be a sort of build school type series focusing on build theory. We will go over how to choose materials, floor planning, adding depth, etc. I want to eventually do some collaborations with other builders on this series so be sure to like and share this video around. The bigger this series gets the better the builders I can get to help out. I really want to make this as comprehensive as possible.
