Minecraft Chat Reporting – End of Anarchy?

About this already from other videos so i’m not going to spend too much time going over what you can be banned for so a quick backstory is that mojeng announced very vaguely about a new player reporting feature in the 22w 24a snapshot that was on the 15th of june 2022.

Now this allows players to send reports about other players directly to mojang or microsoft i think from now on i’ll just say microsoft to make things easier for everyone and it’s all their idea anyway they then released the 1.19 1.19.1 pre-release where they announced that not only can you be banned from one

Server but from all online play including realms and private servers and this can be for many reasons such as drugs and alcohol or hate speech whatever they mean obviously everyone went absolutely mental seeing this as there was no other information about it and then to make things worse they slowly released info a

Well in 1.19 microsoft started cryptographically signing messages what the absolute hell does that mean well simply put it means every chat message you send gets verified by microsoft as coming from your minecraft account at that exact time this means that any message sent that is either not signed or has been edited by

The server cannot be sent in a report to microsoft news flash and this is how anarchy servers can bypass the system and survive so if microsoft won’t let the system be turned off on huge private servers such as constantium or one of those smaller servers like 2b2t the admin can just

Install a simple plugin that either removes a signature from the chat messages player send or edits them with an invisible character and it will mean no messages sent on that server can be reported using microsoft’s tool as they won’t be verified this means that players won’t

Be able to report any chat messages sent by anyone effectively disabling the reporting tool for that server so it looks like anarchy will be okay as long as the admins make sure that this tool cannot be used it’s a real shame that admins have to go

Through all of this anyway just to stop a feature pretty much no one even wants in minecraft but microsoft will be microsoft and if they want minecraft to appeal to advertisers and movie studios which they really do now they’ve spent two billion dollars on it they’re gonna try and clean it up first
