Minecraft How to build – Custom tree tutorial

Hey everyone and welcome back to my how to build a tutorial series so I have had a couple of people asked me to show you how to build a custom tree now it’s kind of a hard thing but I am going to try to teach you how to build one sort of like

This the one I’m going to build is not going to look exactly like this one trees are organic and building organic in Minecraft can be very hard it’s something that I have been trying to do and trying to get better at and I think this is an OK looking tree so I’m gonna

Try to teach you what I have learned by doing this over and over again so what I do now this is I guess you could call this an oak tree oak trees comes in a lot of different sizes and shapes so you can make your tree any way that you want

Really it’s all about testing and trying and redoing and trying again and making lots of them until you figure out kind of how you how you’re comfortable with with building them and what works for you so but I’m gonna try to go through the process here of how I built a tree

Like this so what I tried to I think this is this is a good size for a tree it’s not too large and it’s not too small so if you’re gonna you know you can you can make this as large as you want or you could make a smaller tree as

Well but what I start off with doing here is the sort of size for this tree works well if you start off with making a 5 by 5 without the corners so 4 blocks out like this in a square so that’s that’s the that’s the very start now I’m

Gonna build this up so and I’m gonna do it sort of randomly I’m just going to you know add blocks here and there and hope that everything turns out fine and it will the thing that you have to remember with with this or at least what works for me

Is that what I’m doing right now is not the final product this is not what the trade is going to end up looking like because I’m going to change a lot as I go along and I think that that is something you kind of have to do unless

You get it down to a science or um I don’t know maybe when you’ve built a lot of them you can you can sort of try to to get it right the first time I can’t really do that but I’m gonna I’m gonna show you what I do so now we have this

Here we obviously want the treat to be taller than this so I’m gonna keep on just sort of building up here from the inside if I’m going too fast you can always pause the video and rewatchable it’s like a stump right now and that’s good that’s what we want so I’m gonna

Continue going up here let’s see maybe we want to go a bit here and then we’re gonna bring this up one maybe and continue from in here okay so we have we have something here now what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna start making branches so this could be a good

Place for a branch if you’re building in survival the easiest way to do it is to use dirt as a as a temporary block obviously in creative you can use any any block that you want so I’m just going to use logs here because it’s just

Easier for me and it makes it go quicker I don’t have to change the block that I’m using so now I am just making a branch by placing two logs here this is a temporary and then two locks on top removing the temporary blocks and then placing a

Temporary block here and a log on top and removing that and you get this sort of shape now obviously this is not really what you want maybe it is but that’s that’s not really what I want so I’m just gonna go and place some blocks here randomly underneath to make it more

Of an organic shape and then you can go on top and do the same things you can just add add bits and pieces here and there until you have something that looks a little bit more organic this is still very straight so what you can do

Is you can go and remove blocks again to try and get the shape that you want now I what and when you look at a tree a lot of the time you have a branch going out and then there’s branches coming off of that because this is more part of the

Part of the trunk so I’m going to start a new branch coming off of of this here and it’s like so and going up like that so this one splits into two now I’m going to leave that like this for now and I’m going to start another one here

So I’m going to build this up and then start doing the same thing on the side here so placing the temporary block and then a log on top and removing the temporary block I’m also going to make one right here now this is I’m just

Making this up as I go I don’t have a plan for what this tree is going to look like but something like that now I kind of want one going off to this side as well but I don’t want it to start on the same level as the other ones I’m going

To build this branch here up a bit let’s see let’s do it like that maybe I think that’s a bit too chunky to remove that okay and then I’m going to build this branch up right here I think so I’m just doing the same thing over again

Placing temporary blocks and then a log on top and removing the temporary blocks so now we have something that looks like this okay so this still looks sort of odd doesn’t really look like a tree does not look like that one so what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna start removing some logs

Right here and building some of them up so I want the tree to have roots but I don’t really want them to come this far up so what I’m going to do is I’m going to fill this in here like that and let’s see let’s do let’s remove this and go up

Here okay and then I’ll remove that I don’t want this anymore okay and then let’s see let’s do that now that’s okay this looks alright and then we want roots coming out and you can put roots in the ground as well on this side I

Want it to come out a bit further maybe and then some roots coming out from here let’s see I don’t want it to be symmetrical now and you’re building something that’s organic you have to try and avoid symmetry it’s you know it’s it’s it’s kind of hard to explain it’s

Kind of hard to do nature is sort of symmetrical in a chaotic way let’s see here so I don’t really like this I’m gonna do something like that okay now it looks kind of chunky here so I’m actually going to remove that and keep it like that yeah okay now this is

Still not finished I’m still going to add a lot more to this and remove things and change things and you just have to play around with it and see what works so it’s still very very chunky here now all trees are different and you can build your tree any way that you want

You know you can look at a picture of a tree on Google and try to copy it or you can just build a fantasy tree anything anything that you want so with the leaves this is the hardest part I find I’m going to just start trying to

Connect all these branches here now this looks really silly it does not look like you know a tree this is not how the leaves grow on a tree but what I wanted to do is connect them so that I have something to build off of which helps me

So I’m just going to continue doing this and then sort of start to fill in now you want to be sort of random so I’m just kind of clicking I find that this is actually easier in survival than in in creative because I think it might

Have to do with the fact that you have further reaching creative and so it’s easier to place a whole lot of leaves and making it too dense when that’s not really what you’re trying to accomplish but I’m just gonna click here quite randomly oops and start filling this in

And let’s see what this will turn out looking like now with the leaves I find that I play around with it a lot so I’m just gonna try to make sort of a platform here of leaves and then come up on top and sort of just spam click leaves right

Here so we’re you’re just gonna fill all this in but we don’t want it to be we don’t want it to be symmetrical and we don’t want it to be too dense either now obviously you could just try and start placing the leaves from the branches and working off of that and

Kind of because a lot of a lot of trees don’t have a very full like a head of leaves I don’t actually know what it’s called but I think it looks pretty so this is what I’m gonna do and I’m gonna build it up quite tall let’s see here

Like this so let’s just continue pleasing leaves and this is what I have right now now this looks absolutely ridiculous right so I want the leaves to kind of start from here I want to have greenery all the way down here so I’m gonna just start placing some around

This area and start filling in bits around the the branches and then you can come up here and fill some more in now maybe with this tree what we want to do is actually build it up a little bit more here in the middle because the

Trunk is kind of quite short and then we have very tall branches so I’m gonna continue building these up and filling it in to try and make it more sturdy I guess so something like that I think that looks good and then here we can do this

Same thing we can build this one up a bit and maybe you remove a couple of these so like that yeah okay and then continue with the leaves so I’m just kind of at random and placing leaves I mean I’m looking at where I’m placing

Them and where I need to fill parts in but at the same time I am just spam clicking them for now when you are closer to your finished product you want to be a little bit more careful and strategic maybe so I’m just gonna continue doing this filling this part in

Here let’s see so all the way out here and you kind of have to decide how how big you want this part of the tree to be so maybe you want to go out 15 blocks each side maybe you just want leaves right around the branches and for them

To not stick out too much you know a real tree in real life the the leaves do sit on the branches so if you don’t have branches sticking out all the way to out here then you shouldn’t have leaves but in Minecraft you can do that because you

Can’t really see the branches you could also go in afterwards and add more logs to make it look more realistic if you have if you’ve brought the leaves out quite far so it’s it’s not a problem you can you can do whatever you want I’m

Just gonna try and bring them down a bit and out here because we have quite a big branch here so I want to bring that out a bit more and I want to fill all this in and add a bit more here on the sides

So I don’t know how helpful this part is but I kind of want to stick and not cut the video too much to see that you can see the process of this in survival it takes a lot of leaves it takes a lot more leaves than it does logs so be

Prepared to share a lot of leaves and the good thing is that if you don’t like the way it turns out especially the leaves you can just get some shears and you can change it so you can remove a whole bunch of leaves get them back and

Start over or just change parts of of the tree to make it the way that you that you want it so often oak trees don’t really have bits hanging down too much but I kind of like them just hanging down a bit so I’m just gonna go

Around and add some bits that sort of hang down I want a bit more here maybe I want this to hang out and I don’t like chunky bits like this so I’m just gonna remove some of that maybe add one here instead and then just go and fill in

Parts around here and then maybe add like a leaf down here and one here maybe one here even so now it’s starting to look like something right it’s starting to look like something that you leave it like this this is absolutely fine or you can add more it depends on on what you

Want your tree to look like it’s completely after you I hope that you sort of get an idea of how to start because I think that’s the that’s the hardest part to kind of know where to start and how to go about you know getting

Your tree to into a shape that you want you obviously want it to look like it but you still want it to be sort of random so yeah now I could go on forever adding leaves removing leaves making this you know a huge project and sometimes you want to do that sometimes

You just want to kind of make a tree and be done with it so you know I could make these leaves kind of drape over the sides here and come down I could build it up taller I could add to the branches I could make them really tall and have

The leaves all the way up to here and that’s fine too I think that this tree is looking okay now we have kind of a sturdier branch here so we can add some more leaves around this one over here so just adding some more let’s see like

That and then maybe some on top as well like that and then what you can do is you can go around your trunk again and see if there is anything that you want to change like maybe maybe I don’t want this to be so tall maybe I just want to

Be able to see the branches kind of sticking out to the side here and this one kind of looks it doesn’t look very sturdy so I’m gonna add some logs right here maybe remove that one now I have to change this like that it looks like it’s

More supported on that side you can also go in and add to the branches so I can place you know another log here maybe one here maybe I want another log here just to add to it and and make it look like this branch is really sturdy and

Big and strong so I think this tree is is turning out quite well I think that I have learned about how to make a tree just by practicing just by building these trees over and over again and kind of teaching myself tricks and going through the

Process over and over again so I think that is okay I think it looks kind of odd from this side here I think that we need some more leaves here so I’m gonna just kind of spam click again just adding more leaves another trick that

You know what you can do if you want it to kind of be fuller you can go around and just add leaves sort of here from the middle and build it out and from there you can then go underneath and start filling it in and bringing it down

Like this it’s all very random and then you can come underneath here and fill in even more so like that and just adding to it and then you can go on top and start filling that in too so that you kind of work your way slowly to making

It the shape and size that you want it to be I don’t know if I’m making much sense here but I hope I hope that you kind of that you get what I’m trying to to say so something like that and then you can just you know go around it and

See if there’s any kind of straight lines or if it looks kind of square you can just add bits and pieces here and there too to make it look a symmetrical not symmetrical but a symmetrical and and yeah I think that’s I think that

Turned out to be an OK tree now when you have the size and shape that you’re happy with you can start adding some more detail to your tree so you can oh I’ve missed a mr. mr. log here this is supposed to be like that you can start adding some

Details you can add some vines here and there like that just maybe a few not too many and you can put mushroom mushrooms mushrooms on the logs – did you just give it a little bit more detail you can do this in survival as well as creative

And then you can go and get some bone meal and you can add some grass and maybe some flowers if that’s what you want around your tree and you can build it up like this and make some maybe some two tall grass just to give it that

Immersion and yeah I think that’s gonna be it for today I hope that you could take something away from this tutorial and even if this is not the type of tree that you want to build but you learn some tips and tricks for making your own
