Templates and blueprints are both used with architect tables and builders functionally they’re very similar however there are some operational differences between the two templates simply record blocks placement in a structure and not the material the blocks consist of for example if you record the building instructions for This house to a template a builder will then be able to recreate it out of any place herbal material at all on the other hand if that same house is recorded to a blueprint the Builder will require the exact materials the original house consisted of in order to recreate It after recording instructions to templates and blueprints a sequence number is automatically assigned to each one it can be a little confusing because this number sequence is shared between both templates and blueprints so for example if a template is issued a sequence number of seven and then a Blueprint is recorded next it will be issued sequence number eight even though they’re separate items this can be easily overcome however through the use of the custom naming feature both templates and blueprints are blank by default and have no effect when placed inside of a builder as soon as they have Instructions written to them however white markings will appear making them easily identifiable from the blank ones Video Information

Blueprints are a new addition to Buildcraft 3. Blueprints can be used to store information about structures, similar to a Template, but instead of only storing what spaces are occupied, a Blueprint will also store the material that was used. This allows you to better recreate an existing structure using a Builder.
When first crafted, blueprints are referred to as a Blank Blueprint. Blank blueprints need to be written by using an Architect Table, or Blueprint Library.
A blueprint can be written on multiple times, each time it overwrites the previous information that was stored on the blueprint.
A template stores information for a builder to create structures. When first created, a template is blank, and the tooltip says ‘Blank template’. Blank templates need to be written to using a Template Drawing Table. After a template has been written to, its tooltip will be ‘Template #n’, where n is the number of templates that have been written to so far. When two templates are identical, n will be the same.
Once written, a template can be overwritten. The original template will be lost.
