Redstone engines of the cheapest but one of the least efficient engines available they don’t require any form of active cooling and can operate indefinitely without exploding as long as they used correctly they have for efficiency stages the first one is the blue stage then it goes to the green then the Yellow and then finally the red stage a lot of the time the engine will get to the red stage and then it will keep switching between the red and yellow stages which makes it look like it’s flickering when this happens it’s not in any danger of exploding the only time it Is in danger of exploding is when it gets to the red stage and stays there this will only really happen when the engine has been set up incorrectly unlike the other engines redstone engines cannot be connected to conductive pipes they must be connected directly to the machine they’re powering And avoid aligning several of them in a row or a daisy chain only the first engine will be providing power to the machine the rest will be unnecessarily powering the engines in front of them eventually causing them to explode this table details the power output provided By the Redstone engine at each of its stages due to how low these outputs are they’re most commonly used to power wooden transport pipes orden waterproofed pipes and BuildCraft pumps Video Information

The Redstone Engine is the most basic and cheapest type of BuildCraft engine. To run, all that Redstone Engines require is a direct Redstone signal (e.g. from levers), but they also provide the least amount of power (1MJ/s or 0.05MJ/t). They will not accept a signal from Redstone Dust running past unless it directly connects to the engine. Redstone Engines are most commonly used for powering wooden pipes to transport items, and BuildCraft pumps. Most machinery requires more energy than a single Redstone Engine can supply to be effective or will simply refuse to work with a redstone engine.
Railcraft and Thermal Expansion machines will accept power from a Redstone Engine.
