Minecraft – Is Legacy Console Edition RETURNING Soon?

Over these past twenty-four hours, conversations regarding the long-discontinued Minecraft Console Edition have been popping up frequently to the point where some rumors have begun circulating that Mojang along with 4JStudios (the original developer of the Minecraft Console Editions) are potentially planning to bring back the Legacy Console Edition with a surprise release incredibly soon.

But before we jump into all this news & “Information” I’ll give a brief summary of what Minecraft Legacy Console Edition is for those who don’t know. Minecraft Legacy Console Edition was the original first version of Minecraft that was ported to consoles such as the Xbox 360, PS3 & eventually many more.

It was developed by 4JStudios a relatively small independent British video game developer & was for many including myself the first version of Minecraft console gamers played. This version of the game can be recognized for its unique & now nostalgic features such

As it’s simple & easy to use UI, the Minecraft Console leaderboards, its wonderful tutorial worlds, the awesome mini-game lobbies & of course games including Battle, Tumble & Glide, it’s limited sized world options & lastly… the ability to enable & disable autosave. I know it’s unreal..

Sadly however this unique, beautiful & beloved version of Minecraft got discontinued, with the last update for the Console Editions releasing on PS3 & PSVita under the version title 1.84 on April 15th, 2020. The reason Legacy was discontinued was believed by many to be in favor of the Bedrock Edition

Of Minecraft the more “Superior Counterpart” In reality, it was most likely due to Mojang wanting to bring all the players together in one unified version they could work on as opposed to having multiple sub-version that each had to be individually updated, maintained & catered for.

Additionally by the end of the Console Edition Era only around 5% of Minecraft players played on it, so imagining that number now must be at maybe 1% or 2% due to Bedrock & all the new updates, features & more you can see why it wouldn’t make sense for them to have

Kept updating it. So yeah that’s in a nutshell Minecraft Legacy Console Edition. A nostalgic version of Minecraft that many grew up with & loved that has for almost three years been discontinued. Now that we are all on the same page regarding what Minecraft Console Edition is & what happened

To it, let’s discuss the rumor regarding its supposed return. For those of you who don’t know, yesterday (May 9th) was the ten-year anniversary of Minecraft Xbox 360 Editon & to celebrate that many of the people who worked on the first

Ported console version took to Twitter to celebrate & congratulate the game on turning tens years old. Many YouTubers, Fans & even developers who worked on the game originally such as Roger Carpenter the current Executive Producer for Minecraft & the 4JStudios Twitter account

All shared their own words of gratitude regarding this now ten-year-old version of the game. However, with so many people talking about Minecraft Console Edition & how much they loved it & appreciated it while it lasted, some Minecraft Console Edition advocates took

This as an optimal opportunity to spread misinformation & start getting people’s hopes up that Console Edition was returning. Although sadly the tweet has now been deleted so I can’t show it, there was even a well-known Minecraft Twitter news account suggesting this Wednesday would be when Mojang announced its return…

Remarkable deducting from the Twitter Minecraft News peeps as per usual! As per usual this rumor originated on Twitter. People saw two different things that had one connection & immediately started to presume it must mean whatever they want it to mean.

In this instance, the first thing was 4JStudios tweet wishing the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft a happy 10th birthday & in the nostalgic 4JStudios style leaking something in the photo as a hint of their new game. Then the second thing was this tweet. This. Literally, this is it. These two things.

So because 4JStudios showed an image from a game that looks nothing like Minecraft & this week’s snapshot has been delayed an extra day which somehow means Console Edition is returning… Sorry. No. No, it isn’t. Although I love Minecraft Legacy Console Edition & would love to see it return I know that

It is not a possibility & that it isn’t going to happen. I remember mentioning this a little while back to people that kept spamming Twitter with petitions to bring Legacy back. Instead of fixating on something that is never going to happen & wasting your time going

Against the tide trying to make it happen, you should invest your time in projects that can help players relive the nostalgia of the Console Editions. Doing things like remaking the Console UI, making posts on the Minecraft feedback section about bringing some Legacy parity features to Bedrock like the ability to disable or

Enable Auto-save or the option to have classic-sized worlds. These things can be done now & are more possible than literally bringing an already discontinued game back from the grave. MY FAITH IN HUMANITY IS FLEETING! So moving on, what is happening tomorrow, well honestly right now we still don’t fully know.

It’s definitely not something related to Minecraft Console Edition though. Many are currently speculating it might be something big, the reason behind that belief being that the tweet from Slicedlime (the Tech lead for Minecraft) announcing the delay of the snapshot for an “unrelated even” was not only retweeted by Adrian Ostergard

(the Producer for Minecraft) but also Jens Bergensten or “Jeb” (the Chief Creative Officer at Mojang) all with the same emoji leading people to speculate that tomorrow we might see something quite interesting. And that is it ladies & gentlemen that is the end of today’s video, thank you so much
