Minecraft Podcast: SHOCKING News in The Lab! Lights Out?

Don’t hide behind the par line fix parody then make it the same we need to get back to more of a good relationship between the community and the developers which I think right now is broken there’s a lot of decisions lately with Minecraft that it sort of makes me

Seems like yesterday that this was just a mere concept over on the interms podcast and now we’re into our second year of being a standalone thing on the interms network it’s uh mindblowing the lab just started out as a concept uh that we’ just look at snapshots together

And comment on them it kind of involved into what you’re listening today became its own thing and it’s just interesting how you know you see uh things start off one way and develop into something else whether that’s for the good or for the bad right the copper bulb the big

Controversial change copper bulb in uh the next whatever it’s called Minecraft update yeah let’s let’s chat about that for a little bit because there are a group of people up in arms um over the change that was made with the copper bulb uh controversy to say the least

Between the two things we’re going to talk about today and obviously want to start with the bowl but you know we we had an episode that went out last year and we talked about the crafter you know is it going to be uh the revolution to

To Redstone and and we had jurassics on and he was very passionate that the copper bulb was going to be the Revolution and then you could argue that uh Minecraft nerfed it jurassics we know you’re listening to this uh leave it in the comments talk to us on Discord let

For those that are listening that perhaps aren’t aware of the specifics of what we’re about to dive into would you like to give them a bit of an overview of the change and and what that actually means on the on the bigger picture before I begin I am not an expert

Redstoner so I just want to put that out there for anyone that may be listening that knows more about Redstone than I do uh there is a couple of bigger Redstone YouTubers crafty mastermen uh that and purpler that did videos explaining this change so if you want to uh watch them

That they explain in detail but basically what was changed or what we originally had with the copper bulb was it had a one tick delay which was which is odd an odd delay and the things that you could do if I’m explaining this wrong please correct correct me in the

Comments to my understanding most things far as Redstone are on even delays in Minecraft and what the copper bulb provided was something that would give you an odd delay which meant more precise timing I don’t know if this was a bug that was that was reported by a

Dev or someone else but they said it needs to be more consistent with the rest of the Redstone components uh droppers dispensers and whatnot uh so what they did in the next St shot is changed it to a zero tick delay um which um is you know you’re back to even

Delays so yeah there there were a bunch of redstoners that were upset with that and still upset that with that pushing for this to be reverted to the original state they said its original state was perfect it was like a godsend and that’s what I I I I gather from this whole

Controversy the the thing that confuses me is when it came out on Twitter or X or whatever it’s called King B dogs confirmed the original way the copper bulb worked was by design it was intentional and then they go and flick it and you’re going to have to help me

Someone put a video out very recently that I think you retweeted and said it was very succinct and and really summed up what it’s all about and I watched that video and I apologize I cannot remember the name of the the video maker it is it is Crafty Master it was okay

Thank you yes a it was really good very well explained it it really was but it infuriated me because we lost Redstone component that was going to be revolutionary was going to be able to save so much space on so many different redstone contraptions make things easier because of Bedrock yes exactly because

Of Bedrock I understand that Mojang’s going for parody and that’s a whole topic we’ll cover later uh parody issues we had mentioned it before but yeah par but if that’s going to be your excuse to Nerf a a new block that you’ve put out there that people are falling in love

With and really really want if your excuse is going to be par don’t hide behind the par line fix parity then make it the same is does redstone work the way it does in Java or is it supposed to work the way it’s in Bedrock if you want

To hide I’m going to get passionate here if you going to hide behind parody fix parody don’t use it as an excuse because you want to fix something to Plate the the Bedrock user base fix parody if that’s the line you’re taking if it’s not about parody say why why the change

Is actually and let us have the copper bulb as it was because you can guaranteed us Java players are going to get mods that are going to utilize the copper bulb the way it was intentionally you bet your bottom dollar on that one people and Mojang should just accept

That there are going to be two different versions there’s going to be differences uh let’s not try to bring everything into parity let’s just accept that there are going to be changes so if you’re aiming for parody between the two different versions then you’re going to

Have to look at things like the the nether roof and what gets changed do you make bedrock able to build on the nether roof or do you take away the abil ility on Java to to do that uh that’s going to be controversial as well um TNT duping

Uh do you take that away I mean there’s there’s probably a whole list of things that would have to be changed so I think people and moang should just accept there’s going to be two different versions and on that basis they should just revert the change for Java you’ve

Already got Redstone in Bedrock that operates differently between the the two different versions of the game different things as you’ve said that work differently across the two things when I played Bedrock for the first time I thought oh I’m safe here walking across ice because nothing will spawn on the

Ice next minute I was surrounded by mobs everywhere you know things work differently the player base knows that things work differently that’s what fires all the conversations between you know the Java vers Bedrock societies you know and whatnot why does this one block have to be treed differently why does it

Have to be on parody when when other things don’t need to be on parody especially when you’ve got Redstone itself with inconsistencies between the two versions I don’t understand why you would change this one when everyone was singing the Praises of how good this thing was and all of a sudden it gets

Nerfed I I don’t quite get the thinking especially when one of the devs come out and said hey actually this is uh how it’s designed this is by intent how it works and then changes yeah I don’t get it I don’t and to be fair there’s a lot of decisions

Lately with Minecraft that it sort of makes me scratch my head and go what are they thinking where is it going where is it leading what have they got in mind here cuz it’s now I’ve only been playing since you know the very tail end of 2019

Early 2020 so I’m a baby in this world but even I feel a different vibe between Minecraft then and Minecraft now and it’s just yeah I know that’s sort of a tangent and maybe that’s something we need to do on another podcast is Old School versus new school Minecraft but

Yeah I don’t know I I don’t get this decision with the with the bulb like I agreed with jurassics in the podcast we did last year that it is was a b it was a block that was going to change things and was amazing now I would love to know

What his thoughts are exactly and uh crafty if you happen to listen to this I know I gave you a hard time on on on Twitter uh said things like uh they’re probably not going to change it but at the same time I don’t think just complaining about it just you know

People pestering Mojang to change it revert the change revert the change um that’s not going to work videos such as yours crafty uh that explains why it needs to be changed is the way to go uh more feedback type things uh things in the their Discord is going to make those

Changes and maybe explain why there needs to be a change instead of just complaining about it you know we can’t uh be the uh what what do you call it the the vocal minority um you know it can’t just be just the redstoners that are going to make this change it has to

Be you the whole Community knowing and educated why it should be changed the problem with that though you said the vocal minority the Unocal majority a don’t know about this problem B don’t care about this problem and C don’t understand this problem like you know the vast majority of people are those

That just come through Christmas time and they’ve just been given Minecraft on the switch or they’ve got it on their Xbox or their PlayStation for the first time mhm that’s the bulk of the Minecraft players you’ve got the Redstone Community which is obviously it’s a big Community don’t get me wrong

But it’s a small community in the side in the terms of Minecraft you know these these technical players I don’t quite understand the intricacies of of of redstone and what the problem is but I understand it enough to know that this change is annoying considering what we

Were playing with and what we were designing and going with and why the technical players would be but you you hit the nail on the head just that small vocal minority complaining isn’t going to be enough to make the change to get it back I would be very surprised and

Where you need that support from the majority is you know made up of people that don’t care don’t understand if any but if anyone’s listening from this moang can you please put it back otherwise we’ll complain about it we’ll do it we have no worries complaining kind of segue into the next

Thing speaking of things that got complained about uh which which is which is this it’s kind of minuscule compared to the to what we have as a whole is the position of the eyes on the armadillo good Lord I know it’s minuscule but come on yes no yeah that change was made um

To get into the bigger meat of the controversy on the armadillo there is buyers regret uh the people that voted regretting um what they what they received as far as the armadillo uh I don’t mean to say this and I don’t want this to become the catchphrase for

Minecraft up I don’t I don’t really want to say this and I don’t want this to become the catchphrase for the Lab podcast but I don’t mean to say I told you so but I told you so we we said we put the video out of watch this before you vote about the

Armadillo and it was going to just it it’s not the one to vote for we said it we called it and oh my goodness now people are realizing what did we actually get a whole lot of nothing right and and to and to go along with

That uh people that were upset by by not getting the the the crab um received it through commands and oh I know you know so that’s that’s a bit another big controversy uh that’s been generated over the mob vote and and and this armell you know what that decision

Though to make the command has done the the the command to add in the extra reach you know what that has actually done that has given validity to the argument of why can’t they just Implement all three they’ve just stoked the fire of that by saying okay you

Can’t have the crab but you can have the effect of it anyway just have to type a command in you’ve just given you’ve just given all those people that were jumping up and down saying give us all three it’s rigged you’re lazy blah blah blah you’ve just given validity to their

Entire argument Base by giving us that anyway my argument is if you’re going to if you want to give us dog armor which I think is a waste of space anyway like you with you keep always saying about unless you’re going to change the AI of

The Wolves and the dogs or whatever it’s a waste of space cuz they’re still going to fall into holes they’re still going to fall into lava they’re going to do stupid things anyway make it craftable no you know we don’t need another useless mob in the game that takes up

Mob cap that that adds to lag uses system resources for this item we’ve got leather make it craftable give us mobs that are actually useful and actually add something substantial to the game because lately we have had nothing now there’s even if you go back even to um

As far back as the glow squid now I like the Glo ink right I I think it’s a great it makes so much sense to have it but really beyond that did we need that mob could we not have got the ink sacks mixed them with glow stone to create

Glow ink yeah exactly right why do we need that mob to do that why can’t we have a mob that’s a little bit more substance to it uh the sniffer I wonder how many people would go back and say we don’t want the sniffer now Axel what do

They actually bring to the game uh people don’t really use them in farms that much they’re a nice little thing oh everyone was all crazy about axotal when they first come out oh I’ve got an axel I’ve got an axel now no one cares it’s like the goat horns they were this big

Massive thing and now no one uses them no one gives two poops about them if you’re going to give us mobs next time for a vote let’s make it something more subst stantial other than a cute and B tiny little things that no one really cares about and has buy agret afterwards

Cuz I can’t think of a mob in my time voting in mob votes that anyone actually really goes oh this is such a great addition even the LA limited use no one really uses it for Farms I can’t think of a mob that’s actually been useful in

Mob votes in recent history the only one I think really that for me clarifi classifies as something think that’s a little bit more what’s the word bit more thought bit more complex is the LA I feel that perhaps the implementation of them was botched because the way their

AI Works um so that that in itself a disappointment dog this wolf armor thing Wast of space waste of time I kind of accepted the fact that we were going to get the the armadil so I thought the only way you’re going to make this

Better is to change the wolf AI mhm um I don’t know if I have mentioned this what you feed the dog will help it like if you fed it zombie arm or zombie flesh um it would go after zombies and skeletons what you feed it would basically train

The dog uh if you fed it Phantom membranes it would give it a sort of uh feather falling so you know it’s not like hurting itself if you fed it uh let’s say Magma Cream it gave it some fire resistance for a certain amount of time thought you’re going to say

Explosive diarrhea for a second no no no but give it some fire resistance another issue is there was the controversy when the armadil first came out and people saw I think it was a Zuma play with it uh it could not survive a creeper blast

But it it did on Java so um what if you could feed it something that it would avoid actively avoid creepers I don’t know I think if my thought is if they’re going going to uh have this dog armor it’s not going to change the fact that

The AI has its issues and the dogs still get to jump in lava uh may fall off cliffs uh you know just different dog issues and you’re just better off leaving it in your your base sitting in the corner the other thing that I’ve got

Now correct me if I’m wrong the way you get this thing to get the dog armor is you find an armadillo it goes into a ball you break brush it with a copper brush which gives you the scoots which you then transform into the armor is

That correct yes okay so my question to you then and to the community as a whole so please let me know in the comments below or via email or over us on on Twitter how would a new player picking up the game for the first time instinctively know that that is how you

Get dog armor how what mechanic in the game tell some somebody hey here’s this creature that’s going to turn into a rock now you got to go and get a brush and you’re going to brush it and what it drops when you brush it is what you’re

Going to form now I don’t know of any animal in the real world where you can go and brush it and get something other than my dog in summertime when he MTS and I get basically a Persian rug every two weeks off him they keep introducing

Things to the game that is not intuitive so someone that that’s fresh to the game how on Earth would they know you a to get dog armor but B that’s how you do it because it’s the most insane way it’s the same with the Frog lights who in

Their right mind would think I’m going to feed this frog slime or magma or whatever whatever they eat and what they poop out is going to be a light source block how does anyone think that I I I just I think yeah yeah you know there maybe coming back into the direction of

Minecraft that we mentioned before we may revisit in a a future podcast it’s just not intuitive they they keep adding things in here which is great if you’re keeping up to it like us as like small content creators you know that you know are all over it we watch the snapshots

We we we read the the dev notes and all that so we know we watch Zuma’s videos we watch other very people videos so we know but a kid picking the game up tomorrow for the first time when it’s released how do they know exactly and there there in lies yet another

Controversy um on the way this is obtained the parody difference between um the the amount of scoots you get on Bedrock versus you got four brushes uh regular durability on a brush four brushes you got four scoots on Java and then your brush will break and you get

Five enough for the dog armor uh on Bedrock so no that’s it I’m going to make a video on the the need to you know Bedrock we need a parody we need parody but the two must be the same we’ve got to have parody I’m sorry the copper bulb

Is proof we need to have parody change the dog armor situation please moang thank you yeah just us complaining about it or the community complaining about it I think that’s what’s turned Mojang off from uh addressing it vocally and then we get this next St snapshot and it’s

It’s either changed or it’s not you know we just have to accept that just simply complaining about is is not going to get things changed uh it’s going to take people being educated about the changes people providing feedback doing videos things of that nature so you know we

Need to get back to more of a good relationship between the community and the developers which I think right now is broken so that’s why there’s so much controver controversy you’re right the the relationship between community and developers are definitely broken but it doesn’t help when they make stupid

Decisions with that make no sense like the copper bulb I think it’ll go a long way if they listen went back to listening to the community a little bit with something like that and when you’re making a decision that has you well you backtrack a decision you don’t change a

Thing you backtrack a decision uh it doesn’t help Foster that relationship so maybe that’s where they need to go just find the middle ground again or explain or explain to us why it wasn’t made just to keep Bedrock happy um explain that better or or why it can’t there can’t
