Minecraft is an entirely unique game for many reasons but one of the main ones that I think people do not talk about much is its style of servers other games such as Daisy and TF2 have similar server systems but the servers are only repeatedly played to continue progress Or to rejoin during community events Minecraft servers on the other hand are kind of referred to as different games with tons of smaller mini games within them entire separate histories and some even having an impact on the Minecraft community and the game itself however a good number of the most popular servers Have disappeared or are disappearing over time and today we’re going to take a look at a few of them so let us take a look back on the history of these servers what made them famous and how they became servers we cannot play anymore and with that all being said let us begin Woody’s gamertag was a Call of Duty commentator who became famous in 2010 and 2011 for his Call of Duty parodies and his more relaxed commentary compared to others at the time that being said he eventually started to get into Minecraft in 2012 and 2013 and in June 2013 he Launched his own server called woodicraft woodicraft would have numerous minigames such as Kit PVP SkyWars Pizza Spleef and more but Woody craft was not known for its mini games or its survival and creative servers it was known for its factions woodicraft was one of the biggest faction servers From 2013 to 2015. and if I recall correctly it was one of only a few that wasn’t super pay to win an OP that being said after 2014 Woody himself shifted from gaming to real-life content but the server itself actually still managed to have thousands of players weekly however In the summer of 2014 mojing officially changed our Eula to say that any service that offered super obvious pay-to-win mechanics would be shut down this was huge for faction servers like woodicraft that relied upon giving special kits and diamonds to players who donated so by 2015 many faction servers shut down or Had tanked in Revenue including woodicraft and also according to Woody himself there was extreme toxicity on the faction servers this combined with other factors such as the downfall of Minecraft’s popularity at that time and Woody moving on to other projects led to him fully shutting down the server and Its forms on September 9th 2016. there’s been a few revivals since 2016 most famously Woody run which was able to mostly Port the speedrun game mode from the original server but nothing in the way of bringing back the server in its entirety foreign January 2011 a Minecraft player named Curtis Welch or a game known as hakluke started a Minecraft server solely dedicated to PVP tournaments the server’s IP was minecraftpvp.com and would quickly grow to be the biggest server for PVP in the beta version of the game throughout 2011 it would be renamed to just mcpvp.com and would Expand to have numerous other PVP based minigames such as capture the flag in factions and they also created completely new mini games like Kit PVP and because of that it would stay the biggest PVP Centric server throughout 2012 and 2013. being pretty much responsible for the creation of the PVP Community it averaged over 2 000 players daily during these years which was really impressive at that time now the reasons why this server started to fall in popularity after 2014 are kind of complicated it mostly came down to balance changes that caused many old players to leave new players were really Not interested in the game modes and when they did play they got easily destroyed by experienced players but really as a whole the Minecraft PVP Community shifted from Hunger Games to factions and a few other Gamers that MC PVP didn’t really focus on eventually this combined with real life getting in The way made hook Luke sell the server in May 2015 to another server owner named chap who ran another popular server called MC brawl now MC brawl deserves its own entry but really all you need to know is that it was started in early 2012 and was also built on PVP Game modes like Hunger Games but it did have other mini games like War Z and the incredible Minecraft party but back to MC PVP in 2015 both servers were combined to make a mega server just under the name brawl which after two years chap abandoned due to lack of Players and wanting to go pro in fortnite so it was unofficially ran by a few staff most notably so cool 21 who was pretty much the owner from 2018 to 2023. sadly on April 1st 2023 brawl was officially shut down ending what remained of MC PVP and also killing Other unique minigames like capture the flag warzi and Minecraft party that being said the legacy of MC PVP and MC brawl do live on to this day famous staff and players from MC PVP include bad boy Halo dream George not found leafy is here and a dozen more which now Combined have over 50 million subscribers and numerous mini games such as Kit PVP and block party which were created by MC brawl and MCPVP are still played to this day by the community foreign Harry was a Dutch YouTube Duo who became popular in late 2011 and 2012 for their Minecraft Trolling and if video games were in Minecraft series this gave them millions of views which gave them the idea to start their own Minecraft server for their community and so in August 2012 the is Sherry and Harry server was created originally just being a very basic survival and creative server but In 2013 their popularity continued to grow and so the server was revamped with the help of another skit Channel called craftedmovie this new server had tons of mini games like One in the Chamber Spleef Hunger Games and more but the most famous part by far was the parkour Section which had dozens of levels and was one of the biggest places where parkour and Minecraft as a whole at that time and because of this the server saw a massive popularity averaging over 10 000 players weekly from 2013 to 2016. however the server didn’t really expand Much in terms of new games after 2015. instead variations or tournaments of the same games were just constantly re-released also starting in 2015 was the decline of the it’s Sherry and Harry Channel itself mostly due to new skit channels like exploding TNT he taking their place and the downfall of Minecraft’s popularity at that time by 2018 it’s Sharon Harry switched their content entirely focusing on making real-life complimation videos instead of Minecraft this pretty much cut off new players from joining and at this time the player count was dropping to around three thousand to four thousand players weekly which was sometimes the height Just in one day a few years before in 2019 the server finally dropped under 1000 players weekly and in response a few new games were added and servers were reset which led to some players coming back but that may have just been because of kovid but once again the Player count started to drop again in December 2022 it’s Sharon Harry announced that they were leaving YouTube saying that they were getting bored with gaming content since then the server averages just a few hundred players each month with Harry saying that the server will stay up until donations run out so Yeah this server is still up but it pretty much will be dead by the end of 2024 so go check it out when you can foreign Network was created in August of 2013 by Serene 92. it started life as just a basic faction in prison server before adding more and more plugins and ranks while also adding more progression type game modes like GTA and Skyblock and because of that by 2015 the server was averaging around 5000 players daily Which made it one of the most popular at the time however the before mentioned changes to the EULA really hurt the server and that’s where the story gets pretty interesting see Serene really hated Mojang’s changes to the EULA so much so that he actually fought against it hiring lawyers and ignoring Mojang’s Warnings of potential legal action eventually it got so extreme that he went on the spigot forms to start an uprising of server owners against Mojang and that’s really because and to be completely honest Surrey 92 and the entire leadership of Arkham just wanted to squeeze as much money from the server As possible I mean look at these messages and my new Serene 92 never really had any reputation before making Arkham so I’ll leave you guys to just think about how much of a cash grab the Arkham Network really was that being said Mojang’s specifically targeted Arkham Network behind closed doors and Eventually Serene yielded to them either way the server pretty much fell apart after 2017 with it just being an average kind of pay to win faction prison server from the time eventually falling out of popularity running out of donations and shutting down in late 2021 foreign on April 5th 2012 map Creator Short film Creator and the official Minecraft trailer Creator Dennis Verde released a Survival Games map on Planet Minecraft this was the first popular version of the game mode with the intent of it being able to be replayed on any server without long setup and soon after Its release a server owner by the name of Chad the DJ were to make it fully automated for Server use and for two weeks he worked on it until he finally accomplished it sometime at the end of April so the server Minecraft survival games or just MCSG for short was created Being the first and for a brief time only Hunger Games server and because of the series of hugely popular YouTube events going on at the same time the server became the biggest in Minecraft for a few months MCSG would remain huge throughout the rest of 2012 2013 and Into 2014 with it being one of the biggest servers in the game as a whole and being the number one Hunger Game Server however by 2014 and 2015 Hunger Games as a whole was starting to drop off in popularity as by then the YouTube events ended a new wartime commitment Game mode such as prison in factions became huge at that time then in early 20s 16 1.9 was released which because of its controversial changes to PVP made the server have to stay on 1.8 and arguably killed Hunger Games for a while and by this point Chad was busy with Real life so the server kind of just lost and lost more players and wasn’t maintained over time so in October 2016 the server was officially shut down in 2019 a Revival was planned and did exist briefly before it also got shut down due to a lack of players and since then There’s just been off and on revivals of the server I will say that I think MCSG was truly special compared to other Hunger Game servers since it was the first and really pioneered the way without relying on ranks or kids it also had so many custom maps which many People don’t realize originally came from the server sadly hunger Survival Games kind of just ran out of steam and has not fully returned to the extent that it was back in the day foreign The Hive MC and Mineplex were in the first wave of quick to get into mini Game Centric servers all the way back in 2013 which gave them huge popularity in their opening months and they kept his popularity up by constantly adding then popular minigames from games like Garry’s Mod and making different versions of popular Minecraft mini games like the walls that being said the two Servers have had really different paths after the summer of 2014. the hive kind of died off after 2014 due to a lack of new games and the games that did exist got really Bland after a few months the main ownership it also kind of stepped Away or just took a back end role which led it to not really have a face unlike High pixel or faction servers by 2018 the server was pretty low in player count but then they released a server for bedrock and this server was completely redone and had so much more Added to it using bedrock’s exclusive features and as a result The Hive quickly grew to be the biggest server on Bedrock getting the all-time highest player count so far on a Bedrock server but that being said the Java server stayed pretty low in player count and couldn’t get the updates to bedrock Version had so the hive and see staff chose to pull the plug and shut down the Java version on April 15 2021 which has been one of the saddest experiences I’ve ever had in this game but I completely understand where they’re coming from Mineplex on the other hand kept up its Popularity till 2017 by releasing new mini games and making their own spin on popular ones in the community but after 2017 Mineplex just kind of fell off completely the reason for this is a lot of things the first one is that Mineplex never really changed up its presentation Which makes it feel very dated compared to pretty much every other server second is that there has been no new permanent game since early 2019 which was Mineplex biggest strength during its height and lastly there’s just been a lack of Care by the leadership there have been constant downtimes lag and broken games Which has made the server nearly unplayable at times Mineplex has not seen any sizable updates since early 2020 and is now at a hundred players a day compared to over 10 000 in 2017. even Bedrock which is pretty much the future of the server is at its absolute Lowest in player count right now so as you can guess the reason why I put it in this video is that I think Mineplex will probably die sometime in 2024 if no major revamp happens that all being said let us fully look at why these servers And more have shut down and what can be learned from it foreign the reasons why these servers and many more have failed and shut down over the years come down to four main causes that each alone can kill a server and combine can kill the server fast so let’s run Through them all not keeping up with ongoing Trends in the community is something that most servers got caught in and really it comes down to two parts the first part is having a major player base at one point and thinking it will sustain over time or people will just Come back over a long period of time this is what servers like Mineplex have and hivemc had until they realized they had a change to get a new player base the other part of this is holding on to game modes that are just not so much enjoyed by the community anymore this Happened to pretty much most factions and Hunger Game servers as they thought their large player base would sustain them but as new trends came and time went on players left trying to Max profits out without realizing the potential consequences refers to pretty much most popular servers from 2014 to 2018. this also comes in two parts the first is making a server that is not really special but it’s just very flashy usually by claiming they have unique ranks and items that makes them different from their competitor but we’re often just the same as everyone else the second part is not realizing or Trying to fight Mojang on their Eula changes something that was just going to be a losing battle no matter what Minecraft did self-changing popularity wise and updates breaking servers refers to the fact that Minecraft itself just lost popularity after 2015 till 2019 which caused many communities especially YouTube wants to fall apart over time and the updates at this time also just completely broke some of the fundamental mechanics of these servers like for example 1.9 changes to PVP sometimes it really wasn’t anyone’s fault there was just not enough players for every server and lastly real life getting in the way Is pretty self-explanatory sometimes people move on to other projects and sometimes those people are the glue that held everything together so with that all being said I think the main lesson of this video is that Minecraft at its core is a Timeless game but it has and Has had tons of trends that have come a gone in its community and just because something is at the moment very huge in the community and is easily replicable doesn’t mean it will be profitable or sustainable forever and that that’s just why some Minecraft servers are no longer playable anymore Anyways thank you so much for watching if you’re new to the channel and like videos like this please like And subscribe and if you already are please like and share have a good day and goodbye foreign
