Hey everyone welcome back to geek builds I am Geet and today we’re going to be transforming this deserted tropical island into a massive pirate Republic the whole thing has an area of over 4 million blocks and has already taken over 200 hours of in-game building time across the island and the surrounding Waters I’ll be building a dozen different ships two forts two cities and two Villages but before I even got started on the building I spent a ton of time in World painter hand scoping the island to get everything just right they’re secluded Bays underground tunnels coral reefs towering Cliffs and So many different cool natural areas to discover if you want to see how I made that I’ve already posted a time lapse of just the Royal painting part of this project but that’s for later because right now we’re gonna get started on the first area of this pirate Republic I Started our journey into creating the pirate Republic on a smaller island off the west coast of the Mainland mass in the lore this is the first place that was discovered by the original pirate founders their small ship was blown off course during a storm and they were eventually Marooned on this island their ship was heavily damaged so they towed it up the beach to make repairs while they were marooned the Pirates built a small collection of rickety buildings on stilts but also explored this island and the western part of the larger Island though it’s just a short swim away They were eventually discovered by a passing vessel before all the repairs for their ship were completed but decided that this would be a great place to form a new protected pirate hideout this small island wasn’t the perfect Hideout itself but its location right next to the mouth of the secluded Bay Made it an ideal Lookout Island so they added onto their Huts to transform the community into a permanent settlement and built a dock so that ships could come and go easily from the island with supplies since the buildings were talking about weren’t made by Architects with blueprints or building plans but by Maroon pirates with limited resources I wanted everything built here to have a rickety about to fall apart but still somehow being held together look to it the pillars supporting the dock are made of different colored fences connecting to look like hastily nailed together planks with thin trapdoors making up the Floor of the dock similarly all the buildings and walkways built around the island are unquestionably secured poles and logs some built on the beach above the ground to avoid being swamped by high seas and others being built onto the sides of cliffs when spaced on the Beaches of the island had run out the ship that’s now docked next to the island isn’t the original ship that found the maroon Pirates but it is just one of the many vessels that now roam the seas around the republic since the people who sail aboard this ship make Their living by raiding other ships and towns I’ve gone with an intimidating black and red color scheme for the hull with a set of Blood Red furled Sales to match it not only does this Stark design intimidate potential targets it also allows the Pirates to avoid Hunters by Dousing their lanterns at night and becoming nearly invisible to far away ships as for the materials used around the village I primarily use blocks that they would have had access to around the island Framing and supports of all the buildings are made of jungle logs which Were cut down in the forested parts of the island I also used a lot of jungle planks for decorative exteriors or stairs if jungle trap doors looked a bit different I would have used those for all the floors as well but Spruce trap doors look a lot more like planks nailed Together so I used those instead but I still think this could have realistically been done by those original maroon Pirates since the ship beached in the middle of the island is made up of spruce planks and wood once they were rescued and no longer needed their ship they scavenged materials from It to add to their now permanent buildings for another example of this the Pirates have also pulled down the sails from the ship and have hung them up for shade to get out of the harsh tropical sun eventually they mounted some cannons on the Cliffside to defend The village and juggle well on the back corner of the island to get fresh water from with all that done the pirate Republic was officially started and it’s time to move across to the bay and start working on the first major settlement long ago the city started out as a safe Hideout where captains and crews could take their ships between voyages here in this Bay they could safely make repairs to their ships and relaxed before setting off to Sea again eventually enough pirate Crews were using the bay that had made more sense to transform the area into a permanent City ships could then stop here to refill their supplies and enlist new crew members the only problem was that there wasn’t enough Solid Ground around the bay to build a whole city upon and the town would need to be built directly above the water to start the town the Republic captured A large ship during a raid on a merchant Convoy the ship was too large and bulky to be sailed by the Pirates around the hidden reefs and Shoals of the local Islands but its huge size made the perfect Foundation to hold the floating Town together so the ship was towed back To the bay and secured on huge pilings dug into the bottom of the seafloor I had a few different sources of inspiration when I was planning what I wanted the town to look like the main one strangely enough wasn’t even pirate themed but was Lake Town from The Hobbit I really liked how Dynamic that environment felt with walkways at different heights most running around the outside of buildings but some going under balconies or even through the center of a building and how floors at different heights required Bridges and stairways constructed to reach different areas I combined that with the aesthetic style Of Tortuga from Pirates of the Caribbean as well as my own idea that the city could double as a vibrant ship Garden where old damaged or unneeded shifts could be brought to have a second life so multiple times throughout the city I incorporate ship holes into the designs Of buildings or even use an entire ship itself as a building it made sense to me that although this town would be a lot more built up than the village on the small island we’re still talking about a society made up of pirates and thieves so we’re using materials they already Had on hand would be a must as for the buildings themselves I had two different color palettes I switched between the first use jungle logs for the outer trim and jungle planks for the walls I really liked the light pink color the jungle planks have because it adds a lot Of color throughout the town without being too obnoxious I also use stripped acacia wood around the top of each floor for an additional bit of color I alternated that color palette with one made of stripped Spruce logs for the trim and Oak planks for the walls I Don’t usually use Oak Planks on my builds but here at the light beige color makes them look like unpainted wood that’s been washed out by the Sun and I think it works really well as a contrast to the more colorful jungle plank buildings on these buildings I used stripped Warped wood instead of Acacia to add a bright blue color when planting the town I struggled with coming up with a building style that would best represent a pirate Republic in real life I’m a huge fan of anything pirate themed so I’ve played a lot of Games and watched a lot of TV and movies about Pirates but there’s not really any examples I could think of where whole towns were created by pirates that I could use as inspiration so the main style I based this on was Spanish Colonial architecture which uses a lot Of arches on walls doors and windows there’s usually an emphasis on roofs that are low and flat and often have rooftop Terraces but I took a lot of liberties with the style and really only used it as a loose inspiration since a lot of other characteristics like heavy Stucco walls and tile roofs wouldn’t really work on the talent that needs to be built on stilts the last building in this town is actually a recreation of a piece of concert art I found early in the planning stage of this project it’s the super cool mishmash of ships all Stacked together and repurposed into this huge ship tower building in this city I made the town hall where members of the pirate Republic can gather to decide on new laws and freely voiced their ideas another thing I liked about this design is that it looks like different parts of The building were tacked on over time like it was expanded to fit the new needs that had Arisen so there’s a lot of different overhanging balconies and rooms that give the boat a lot of depth out in front there’s also a wooden Square for ship captains to sell their Cargo or pay to have repairs done on the ship the final addition to this area is a three massive pirate Schooner patrolling the waters around the west side of the Republic I gave the hull of the ship a graceful curve from front to back then colored it using deep slate as The primary color with calcite and diorite as accents for decorations I attached spikes to the bow sprit to mimic a harpoon and add additional Hooks and spikes at the front and back of the ship made of diorite for the sales I went with Nether Bricks to match the Blood red sails of the first ship and above that I placed a crow’s nest and a Black Flag Atop The main Mast with the ship completed I moved it down to be floating in the water I think this area turned out great and matches the original goals I had for the town When you’re walking the paths around the town there’s always a boat or shipwreck within sight the buildings feel free and a little unplanned and the exposed fences rising out of the bay along with the larger beams supporting everything give the town a very light and Airy feel As it sits just a little above the water but the depth the buildings have combined with elements like the sophisticated arches along the walls differentiates this town from the village built on the first island and shows that the Builders of the Town had at least some knowledge of architecture But I’d like to know what you all think of the town like if you think it turned out similar to what I was describing in my original ideas for this part of the map or if you were imagining something totally different I’d be interested in hearing that too And if you had different ideas for the origins of the town and how it all came to be feel free to share it in the comments below as well it’d be cool to see your own ideas for pirate Republic lore but with all that said and done It’s time to move on to the north side of the island in our first Seafort on the map far to the North there’s another small island in the shape of a crescent moon long before the pirate settled here this fort was constructed by a different Naval Empire maybe even the one headed By kesol from my last big city project they used the fort as an outpost a place where ships traveling across the ocean could safely dock in order to resupply or drop off Precious Cargo and this island made a good choice for a fort because of its naturally protected Harbor as well as the Mountainside that the fort could be built into for additional height and safety this meant that any ships wanting to attack the fort would have to come through the mouth of the Bay Head on so that their cannons would be facing away from the Fort while the fort was able to freely fire at attackers at some point in time the pirate Republic was able to take the fort by sneaking small ships through the cave system running through the island setting fires in the fort and causing enough of a distraction that their Larger ships could slip into the bay to fire on the fort even with the element of surprise the heavily fortified Defenders were able to sink multiple ships which still light at the bottom of the Bay but as you can now see the pirate attackers won and now control the Fort and use it to defend the north side of the Republic the Pirates made some small additions to the Fort after its capture like hanging the huge flags at the top and bottom sections as well as constructing the two wind towers with cannons at the entrance to the Bay the Ships are placed at the bottom of the ocean are roughed up in destroyed sections of some of the ships I’d already built earlier and the one floating in the water next to the Fort uses the hull of the Schooner recode with red accents instead of white and With a white hole below the waterline I’ve also changed the sails to be square rigged so the ship is now more of a bark or a Brig instead of a schooner as for the Fort I drew a lot of inspiration from concept art for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag the walls are made out of mostly Mossy and regular stone bricks with samasi Cobblestone mixed in as well and all of the walls of the main Fort have a slight slope so that any cannonballs that hit them are directed up instead of destroying the wall there’s also large crenellations with Space between for dozens of cannons throughout the fort pointing out towards the bay and the Sea moving on directly across from the Crescent Island there’s massive Cliff faces rising out of the water with a Gorge running between them heading into the heart of the island at The bottom of the cliff is an old hole that’s been flipped upside down and repurposed as a defensive structure with cannons above it there’s a village precariously built along the Cliffside with wooden paths and bridges connecting one building to another because almost every building is supported by stilts the buildings needed To be kept lightweight so almost everything is made out of thin trap doors the walls and pathways are made mostly of spruce trap doors and the roofs are a combination of Oak craft doors and campfires truthfully it’s not a very realistic place for a village but I enjoyed the challenge of building an Entirely vertical Town not only did I build the village on the cliffs but I also cut into the Rock to create caves and overhangs for the wooden walkways to run through one massive cave starts in the middle of the village and creeps up to the island To a higher section of the Gorge after making the long Trek up through the cave there’s a rope Bridge across the chasm to the top of the opposite Cliff here in one of the most inaccessible parts of the island the Admirals of all the different pirate fleets and their High-ranking officers gather to plan their raids for the next year and how the spoilers will be divided between The Fleets and the Republic because these are pirates arguing about how to best share their hard-wound treasure the debates can go on for hours or days without making any progress So the Admirals table is covered with a sale to keep out of the elements and there’s a fully stocked Tavern for the officers to enjoy while they’re here behind the Admirals table is a roaring bonfire that stays lit for the entirety of the Gathering surrounded by a number Of colorful canvas tents there’s a tent for each Admiral and a separate tent with bunks for the officers that brought with them the final addition to this area is another recolored and re-rigged Schooner a mix of the regular Schooner sale design with a few junk sales thrown In as well and another Canon Tower with a campsite beneath it for the pirate station there I really enjoy how it feels to walk all the way up from the bottom of the cliffs up through the village and cave and make it to the top where the meeting area is the cliffs are About 200 blocks high so when you’re at the bottom you see this really imposing hike ahead of you and as you wind your way up along the wooden paths you can look out across the sea to the fort and down at all the walkways and buildings you pass to get where you are The caves also have a very natural feel to them and the stream running out of the cave and flowing down the cliff and overpaths really ties together all the different parts of the build and it just didn’t really work well to see on camera but believe me that making the stream Run down through the cave in a controlled way without spilling everywhere and looking like a mess was an almost impossible task the main cave through the cliff winds around at different angles so you can’t see directly from one end to the other the result is that it’s incredibly dark And you feel like the cave could go on forever lit only by the Torches placed alongside the wooden walkways that crisscross the stream as it flows down the cave once you get to the top you’re met with a wall of light coming through the cave entrance and a rickety swaying Bridge with a concerning number of places where the planks look like they’re about to fall away from the bridge going in close to the meeting grounds we get a chance to view some of the smaller details and the story they hope to build in the area zooming in on The Admirals table there are huge maps of the island and surrounding waters on the table that the Admirals used to decide on fleet territories and where ships will Patrol and there’s amethyst gemstones around the table a symbol that these Pirates have so much wealth that It can just be left out in the open each of the fleet Admirals have a private tent to themselves marked by a flag with their sigil on it where they have even more of their own gold and gemstones displayed I wanted to emphasize just how rich the Republic had gotten off of Piracy and all the treasure shows just how successful all the raids and patrols planned here have been as for the location of the meeting grounds it’s notable that the Admirals who are the highest rank position in the Republic come to the highest point on the island to meet and because the peak is Impossible to reach by any other path than the one up through the village the Admirals don’t have to worry about being ambushed by pirate hunters or any other enemies but as a precaution the Mast and the Watchtower at the edge of the cliff protrude above the canopy so Lookouts Can warn of any approaching ships on the horizon next up we have an ongoing battle between a pirate Fleet and a heavily armed ship of the line that’s been ambushed and separated from the rest of its treasure Fleet I start by using the body of the main ship from the Floating town I built earlier in the video but change the colors used and finish the stern of the ship for the sales I went with quartz and calcite for the most part but peppered the sails with holes where cannonballs had ripped through them and surrounded those holes By endocyte so the sails look singed and tattered I added holes in the sides of the ship as well with Magma blocks and stained glass to look like fire has caught hold on the ship and smoke is billowing up into the sky behind the Ambush ship is a variation of the Schooner but with an imposing black and dark ghostly green color scheme which is made using deep slate emerald ore blocks for the next addition to the pirate Fleet I started from scratch and decided to go with a small Sloop I really liked the idea of the pirate fleets going After larger targets using a number of smaller more Nimble ships as opposed to The Fleets being made up of all huge frigates or man of Wars I also wanted to give this pirate Fleet a unifying aesthetic so I stuck with deep sleep for the sails and dark colors for the hulls For the fourth ship I copied the Sloop changed the hook colors a bit and pasted it out in front of the treasure ship The Last Ship in the battle is the flagship of the pirate Republic it’s a huge gracefully curved warship with very on-brand Skull and Bones decorations all Over the outside of the ship to start I made the shell of the hull first which was much harder than most of the ships I’d made so far because of how I wanted the hull to curve all the way from bow to stern I couldn’t quite finalize what I wanted the color of the hole to be so I left that as orange wool and created a skull design that I would use on the bow of the boat as well as both sides of the quarter deck at the rear of the ship I knew the gallery of the ship was going To be tricky so I copied the stern and pasted it out where I could work on it by itself so that if I made any mistakes I could delete it and start again without damaging the actual ship design and as you can see it took a few Attempts before I was happy with how everything fit together that’s one of the challenges I really love about making ships oh it makes them so different from other projects ships have a very specific way they’re supposed to look so everything really needs to fit together well because if anything’s out Of place or has strange proportions there’s no way to hide it and it’ll totally ruin the design with the ship put back together I finished the decorations on the stern and gallery with skeletal fingers Fanning out into the air and look something like a crown Sitting on the top of the ship I decided another bricks for the hull to give it a deep maroon color then use different deep slate blocks as ornamentation going horizontal around the hull there’s two levels of gun decks beneath the upper deck and if you look close you can Actually see that there are cannons pointing out from the eyes of the skull around the ship rising up from the bottom of the ship are bony appendages so when the ship is placed down into the water it’ll look like there’s a ghostly claw reaching up to grab the ship the Final step was to build the mass sails and rigging I definitely found the sales to be the most frustrating part of the whole thing especially this Square sales it took a few tries to even get the sales to look the way they do now and Then as I went I trimmed them more and more to make sure they all had an even flow in them and connected to the beams above and below them the Triangular cells in between the mass weren’t as tough to get the shape right but getting the rigging to connect them to the mass In between the square cells was still a bit annoying all in all the flagship is definitely intimidating and if you were a merchant ship who saw us appear on your horizon you’d definitely be thinking your day had taken a turn for the worse with the ship placed down into The water and smoke from all the recently fired cannons dissipating into the air above this battle was over as for the lore of how it all happened the treasure ship was part of a larger Fleet carrying cargo too close to Pirate Republic Waters the pirate Fleet ambushed the larger Fleet causing chaos And confusion until one of the treasure ships was separated from the rest of the fleet the ship was chased here abandoned by the rest of its treasure Fleet who are more than happy to leave one ship to the Pirates in order to secure the rest Of the cargo which is how we got to the scene where the Pirates have easily overwhelmed the isolated ship and the white flag has been raised with the battle over the Pirates will board the ship take the treasure for themselves and Tow their newly captured Ship back to port for repairs so that it can be added to the pirate Republic Armada if the captured ship was too heavily damaged for repairs to be made or if the Pirates ever captured a ship that wasn’t fit for battle then it could be scavenged for parts and then added as Another sunken ship building in the town that way no ships captured during a raid ever go to waste and the pirate Republic keeps on growing now that this section of the map was completed I moved down to the south side of the island which is still pretty much untouched up to this Point I got to work building a fort similar in style to the one on the Northern Island but free standing on the beach instead of being built into the Mountainside the overall build is shaped sort of like a ziggurat with a really wide flat base that has multiple sloped Levels as you travel up the structure to support the weight of the building their Stone bracings all along the fort starting on the second level I added small Stone Towers on every corner which I then copied and pasted on the third and fourth level of the Ford as well as I went up the fort there was less and less space to build so the slopes of the walls gradually increased to prevent the final level from being too squat once the main chip was made I went back through and blended it into the surrounding landscape by adding leaves And Vines growing up the sides of the walls as well as palm trees wherever there was space for one after that I placed cannons between the crenellations facing out towards the sea on all the levels and then finally went through and built torches stacks of barrels campfires and gibbets for Finishing details the reason for the Fort being here has to do with the waterfall behind it and the secret cave within long ago explorers from another seafaring Empire discovered the cave in the Treasure within the cape was in fact a tomb for the ruler of a long gone Kingdom and he was buried here in a sarcophagus within the cave along with all his treasure and jewels the Explorers looted the tomb and Disturbed the remains in the sarcophagus then fled with all the treasures they could store on their boat when they returned home a Great Plague Fell upon them sprang to everyone they met and nearly destroying their City the curse was only stopped by returning the treasure to the tomb and the fort outside of the cave was built to prevent anyone else from ever venturing into the cave stealing its treasure and Reawakening the curse the pirate Republic now has ownership of the fort but its purpose is still the same and anyone caught attempting to sneak into the cave is placed within a gibbit at the Fort as a warning to others if you explore the map yourself it might be best to avoid the cave and leave the Treasure where it lies within the jungle in the interior of the island I built isolated towers and temples as last remnants of the lost kingdom that you can find by following Sandy paths within the jungle those even one Atop The Stone Spire overlooking the Shipwreck town in the secluded Bay from Earlier to get there you have to travel up through a cave I etched into the Spire as you go up there’s great views of the whole island but especially of the Town below and there’s really no better place to get a better view of the whole build the last part of the map I’ll be building in this video is a Spanish Caribbean style Port City on the northwest part of the Island located somewhat between the Shipwreck town and the northern Fort I went with a very bright white aesthetic using different quartz and calcite blocks for the walls And for the roofs I used a mix of brick and copper blocks a lot of Spanish Caribbean architecture uses terracotta tile roofs which was a bit tricky to recreate in Minecraft but with groups with low slopes I use slabs and alternated the heights of each line to Get depth and for the roofs with higher slopes I use lines of stairs interrupted by full blocks because there wasn’t enough land to build the city on I had to create this flat stone Pier pushing out into the water but I don’t love building on large flat surfaces since I Think it can look unrealistic and Bland so wherever possible I tried to play with the height of the ground so there’s a second tier of the city closer to the cliff and even within that Town Square I dug down a single block to add more depth this also allows you to See more of the buildings from the outside with this section of the city done I copied it flipped it and pasted it across the bay I also took all the buildings and made schematics out of them so I could easily paste them down to expand the city Quicker there’s still a lot of work going into terraforming around the buildings on the hill but it’s freed me up to focus more on the layout of the city and making interesting streets to walk through but the real centerpiece to this part of the map is the Cathedral at The end of the city and the Town Square that opens up in front of it everything was getting a bit crowded and I knew I wanted to have great views of the front of the cathedral plus still have room for things like fountains and palm trees And square as well so I dug out a decent way into the hill just to get started and then ended up digging out a bit more later I modeled the building after the Havana cathedral which is a bit wider in real life but I had to squeeze its width and Make it taller to fit into the space I was working with I really wanted the city to feel Lush despite being made entirely of stone and quartz So I placed palm trees and fountains wherever there was space and I placed plants and Gardens along the sides of the streets Along the streets and in the squares there’s also brightly colored Market stalls selling a variety of different Goods so it feels like a bustling City out in the water I made a few quick docks and recolored the Sloop from earlier and placed a couple of those Docked in the water for the lore of the town I really liked the idea that the pirate Republic had grown so much as an actual nation that there would be cities popping up on the island that weren’t pirate focused so this is a city made up by normal citizens merchants and Traders Who don’t engage in pirating but have moved here and created this city because the part Republic has become such a sustainable and thriving nation and while of course the Pirates practice some hostile trading techniques there’s also part of the part Republic economy that is just made of regular Merchants Now and the boats out in the harbor are a symbol of that the Pirates would need some way to offload the cargo they clicked on their rage that isn’t some kind of treasure or gemstone so the city could be a sort of fence for them to sell stolen cargo at a heavy discount And then the merchants here could trade those goods with the rest of the world and with that all the building was done there’s a couple more areas that I built around the island that didn’t really translate well to the video so there’s definitely still some things to discover For yourself around the map I’ve also still got the central Cavern in the middle of the island that I can build a nice centerpiece for the map in so if you’ve got any ideas for what to put there leave a comment about it and if This video does well I can return to the pirate Republic to do some more building I’ve also launched a patreon where you can support me so I’m going to take a second to talk about that I don’t want this to feel like I’m taking my builds and putting them behind A paywall so I’ll still be uploading all the finished maps with builds for free on Planet Minecraft but whenever I put out a video I always have a lot of people asking for a map download of the blank map without Builds on it which I don’t usually release to the public So I’m going to be posting just the map Landscapes on patreon for download as well as the world printer files for anyone who wants to see what the maps look like in World painter or make adjustments to them themselves I’ll also be posting schematics from my Maps on there as well that you can use in your own projects and even if you’re not interested in any of that but still just want to support me I’ll have a one dollar tier that is just for that in the future I’ll also be putting patrons Names at the end of the video and if there’s any other stuff you might be interested in me posting on patreon feel free to leave a comment about it and we can work on new things to make supporting me on patreon worth it to y’all so that’s gonna be it for today Really hope you all enjoyed the map and the video leave a comment if you did and if you made it this far and you’re not already subscribed feel free to do that too as always the download link is in the description below and next up I’m Going to return to keysaw for a part 3 where I build the palace at the top of the cliff and totally finish that map so look out for that and I’ll see you next time peace Thank you Video Information
