Minecraft online the true oldest continuously running survival Minecraft server since its beginning just hours after survival multiplayer was added to Minecraft the world has never been reset and unlike Anarchy servers like 2b2t mostly every build has been perfectly preserved due to the server’s no grieving policy to say this server is an Integral part of Minecraft history is an understatement but for a server that’s so historically significant you’d assume that players from all over the world would be flocking to it especially with all the attention it has received over the years yet it almost never even gets close to its player limit something’s Obviously not adding up so let’s break this down shall we so what’s really going on here well let’s log into the server to actually find out and there’s our first problem you need 1.12 to join the server which is a version of the game that came out Six years ago alright finally this is the spawn point of Minecraft online looks the same as always but we can immediately see that this squid is glitching really bad which may indicate poor server performance yet there’s only around 30 players online alright let’s try teleporting somewhere come on you can do it Yeah that’s how long it takes to teleport on Minecraft online so it’s pretty obvious that this server has some major lag issues let’s absolutely confirm this by finding the TPS or ticks per second which is a good way to measure server performance with a number essentially the lower the TPS the Laggier the server is a properly operating Minecraft server should always be running somewhere around 20 TPS now I have a mod installed that tells me what the server’s TPS is and it’s three which is bad now fun fact the server actually used to have a command slash TPS that Would give you this information without mods but was later removed because from what I’ve heard the staff believed it caused more lag from all the players using it I highly doubt that continuing with the subject of server lag this has been a consistent issue for at least as Long as my first time logging into the server which was seven years ago so it’s very possible that this has been an issue even earlier than that and this isn’t just the occasional lag Spike it’s constant in fact it’s so bad that a majority of the server is straight up Unplayable for example Minecraft online has by far the largest and most impressive player made railroad Network on any Minecraft server but if you try to actually use it you’ll quickly find out that it’s useless I’m not slowing down the video this is the actual speed Minecarts go on Minecraft online alright Then what about something simple like digging a hole for a base only a few dirt blocks in and you’ll be guaranteed to run into ghost blocks Escape disconnect leaving yet another permanently unfinished builds to add to the pile so what’s causing this lag and why hasn’t it ever been fixed it’s a Very simple question and I’ve tried to get answers by asking various members of the Minecraft online staff team I’m just going to quote a few of the many answers I’ve received Java memory leaks Minecraft online isn’t hosted on super expensive Hardware if we knew what caused the lag it would likely be fixed Apparently the admins of Minecraft online don’t know why the server is lagging or maybe they do know but just haven’t gotten the means or even want to fix it so the easiest thing to point to would of course be the server Hardware as the culprit Minecraft online Advertises itself on their front page as having serious Hardware you won’t find a less laggy server in the EU this is laughably false advertising the CPU the server runs is almost a decade old as I invested many hours of my time into Minecraft online building a town of my Own I grew an enormous appreciation for the server and I hated to see it struggle on such old Hardware so in April of 2022 I I thought that the obvious solution at the time was for me to donate new hardware to Minecraft online I ended up getting into contact With one of the admins that preferred to be unnamed for this video and this was already my first mistake as I should have insisted that I talked with the server owner slow Riot he’s the one who started Minecraft online in August of 2010 and has Remains the owner to this Very day in the server’s early period Riot was seen online regularly being very active in terms of running and maintaining a server But as time went on his presence on the server started to grow less and less until today where Riot is almost never seen by the public Eye and thinking back at this situation now I guess it made sense why I didn’t go directly to him about a hardware donation as I thought Riot barely had anything to do with the server anymore regardless I was told by that Anonymous admin that Minecraft online was hosted remotely therefore a donation of Physical Hardware wouldn’t be of any use instead they needed the money to rent a new server from a remote host and that’s when I impulsively made the donation of fifteen hundred dollars to Minecraft online’s donation account I would later learn that this was a huge mistake I was Told by the Admin that the transfer to the new host would happen within a couple of weeks which turned into months so I asked him again when the transfer was going to happen and he said that progress was going slower than you’d like but it was definitely still Happening and of course nothing did ever happen so I asked again a few more months later and it almost took a whole month to get a response only to be told that every dollar I gave was spent and Minecraft online was still not transferred to the new server and it’s Even worse knowing that the entire fifteen hundred dollars I donated was spent and wasted on a server rental that was never actually used this infuriates me I gave this money to Minecraft online with the impression that it would be put to use to greatly improve the performance of the server however if I Would have known at the time that this money would essentially be thrown in the trash and burned by an incompetent staff team I would have scrapped the whole idea if 1500 can’t fix the server then no amount can so in search of the final answer to this debacle I decided to Contact no other than slow Riot himself I thought this was a long shot as the last time Riot was seen logged in was in August of 2022 during Minecraft online’s anniversary but regardless I attempted to contact him requesting an interview and to my surprise he responded telling Me to fire away with the questions so I did and about three days later I received a response that was multiple pages long so we of course need to talk about the elephant in the room what actually happens to the fifteen hundred dollars I donated well here’s what he Said the admin team selected a particular server available with our preferred hosting provider and we calculated a hosting budget for approximately 10 months of uptime for the new server it was anticipated that there’d be up to a couple months of overlap where we would be running the New server in parallel with the existing production server required for a smooth migration it went live on April 11 2022 that was where I left my engagement with that issue with the process of migration delegated to the admin team comfortable with the knowledge that they had accomplished similar migrations smoothly In the past more recently I noted that we were approaching the 10-month mark and requested an update on the situation from the admin team I was disappointed to hear that due to limited human resources and too many parallel projects it had not been possible to complete the Migration in the time allocated and the service was still running on the old host we have been paying for both the old and new server in parallel speaking frankly I was rather disappointed with the handling of the situation I feel we completely dropped the ball on this one And find it’s very regrettable that we failed to put your generous donation to good use It’s sad to see a huge opportunity to possibly revive this Minecraft server with new hardware go to waste what I’m getting from this is that there seems to be some real efficiency issues with how the staff team operates behind the scenes and to confirm my suspicion I Decided to also contact a current and former admin of Minecraft online to see what they had to say in an interview with double helix 467 one of the current admins of Minecraft online he told me something shocking regarding admins fixing important server issues every time someone has tried to step in and do Something they get exasperated and leave why is this well a former admin by the name of vulprin told me this I think my most major critique of Minecraft online is how its leadership is structured bottom line is that there is no defined leadership it’s merely what Riot says Though Riot is barely active meaning that in admin mod meetings we clung to emails dating 2014 to try to apply Riot’s words to 2020 Minecraft online what we can conclude from this is that slow Riot’s current role is to simply be the one that makes the final say on Major server decisions which means essentially the admins are left to figure out the rest and there isn’t necessarily one admin that leads the others because they’re all admins this results in poor structuring coordination and most importantly a lack of leadership and Direction amongst the Minecraft online staff which in turn Brings server progress to a standstill that’s the answer we’ve been trying to find all along not only are the players of Minecraft online frustrated but the staff is too my original intention with this video was to focus on the technical reasons as to why Minecraft online has historically been riddled with such poor Server performance extremely delayed game updates and broken features and I’m not trying to downplay that reasoning at all because there obviously are very complicated technical reasons why a lot of these problems exist and that’s a whole other Rabbit Hole in and of itself but all of my research into every core Issue this server has seems to lead me back to how disconnected the server owner is from his own server when there isn’t a leader who can step up and put his time into fixing these underlying issues it basically guarantees server stagnation which is exactly what’s happening to Minecraft online right now Riot told me that he takes a mostly hands-off approach to running Minecraft online and that’s okay it only becomes a problem when his leadership hasn’t been delegated properly to someone else somebody has to run the show and currently it seems to be nobody Riot started this server back in 2010 purely As a hobby but Minecraft online has gained so much following and historical significance that it really shouldn’t be treated like that anymore and I want to be clear that I’m not implying that Minecraft online should change its core philosophy being that players should have the freedom to build wherever they Want without intrusive World guard protections as long as they don’t grief other builds this philosophy at least in my opinion is what made Minecraft online so great and is what most distinguishes itself from other no griefing servers it’s a very freeing experience to play here and that freedom is kept for the Most part as long as you show respect towards others Creations so is this really how a server should be treated with such historic value just left to rot it’s laggy stuck on an old Minecraft version using outdated and obscure software and the owner seems to be in no Hurry to make changes for the better is this how we show respect for the players who put thousands of hours into massive server projects only to see them become completely unusable the 250 000 unique players who put their time effort into the server deserve better my goal here Is not to make the owner the staff members or the server itself look bad after all I love this server for its history and core philosophy I want to see it succeed far into the future all I’m trying to do here is simply bring serious attention to these issues Minecraft online has in hopes they can be resolved but for that to happen a huge restructuring of how the admin team operates needs to be done in that decision lies on the owner of Minecraft online I’m gonna be real with you all this video was a nightmare to make it took me Countless revisions of the script to get it right and even still it probably isn’t perfect there are many things I’ve left out simply because of the sheer amount of time it would take me to explain it all in the video of this format there were even a few points in Time where I almost abandoned making this video due to the stress involved of what to include and what to leave out so I’m sorry if I didn’t cover everything maybe I’ll do a live stream or something in the future to hopefully answer some questions I’m sure I’ll be receiving From this video but no promises regardless this video wouldn’t have been possible without the help of these people giving me more information that I could ever ask for I want to thank you to anyone else I forgot to list here that helped in any way with the video I Truly and dearly appreciate it thank you
