Alchemy Researchathon | Thaumcraft 6 #22

Greetings everybody this is bird tross and welcome back to stormcraft six we’re starting off today in the mine with the pickaxe of the core here it looks like there was some disagreement in the comment section of the last episode about exactly how this works someone was suggesting

That we need to put the pickaxe of the call on the recharge pedestal but that is not the case thanks to another comment for clearing up all you need to do actually is uh shift the right click what i come head down here dude let’s go up here let’s just go

To one of these walls so you just shift a right a click and you can see some stuff in the distance there whereabouts was there let’s see sort of right behind here so if we just mine back this way a little bit let’s see if we can find something here

It’s like really is that it coal i think that’s what we were aiming for here yeah but you can see all of the ores around us and stuff right we’re not going to see anything in here obviously because i’ve mined all this out but yeah that’s basically how the pickaxe of

The core works right but there’s uh one issue with the pickaxe of the core here and that’s the durability you can see here because i’ve got the f3h thing enabled we can see the durability the maximum is 1500 so that’s a little bit of an issue

Diamond tools as it turns out have a durability of 1561. so that’s 61 extra points of durability that diamond tools have over these uh thormium tools these upgraded thormium tools i suppose now because of the research that we did a couple episodes ago we can actually add the sounding refining

Collector any kind of enchantment we want actually or the infusion enchantments to any tool we want including diamond tools so that means with a bit of effort and time and essentia and stuff we could actually make a diamond pickaxe that’s actually quite a bit better than the pickaxe of the core here

Because it’s got better durability it’s got the better enchantments and stuff so technically yeah the meta what i’m trying to say is the meta for tools at the moment for me is diamond tools but i am going to stick with the pickaxe of the core and all the other

Elemental tools in this mod because they look freaking badass the sprites are pretty awesome and it’s a it’s a surefire way whenever somebody clicks on the video it’s very easy to immediately tell oh hey this person is playing modded minecraft so we’re going to stick with the pickaxe of the core

For now one other thing that i’d like to show you is the top floor of the tower the flux rift up here well actually both flex rifts have exploded this one a little bit more spectacularly than the other one uh the first fl the first flex rift

Down there say that five times fast i caught that one right as it exploded and the slug guy actually spawned inside of the ground and suffocated to death but this one obviously we’ve had quite a bit of block loss here i decided to leave it here so that you guys could uh

See the damage for yourselves what you may also notice is that we’ve got a bunch of jar labels on our essentia tanks now uh job essentia tags anyways yeah so i’ve got the aspar jar labels in here or blank labels as they’re called and i’ve also got all of my

Uh files of essentia that i’ve acquired from all of these thus far in here as well the reason that you want a file of essentia for every kind are handy and around somewhere in your base is so that you can take the crafting recipe of these pop that in there

And you get a colored one for whichever essential you used it doesn’t use up the file of a signature which is really cool and this is handy for situations like if you want to put a label on your lemberg so now this limbic here is labeled with prayer contaction in this case that

Means only prayer contact your essentia can go inside there so that makes it really handy for using essential tubes you can pull that off send that off to some automated process somewhere in your base and you can just shift right click that off of there and that gives you the blank label back

Yes so that’s a really really handy to have a file of these around and yeah so we’re just going to use these as we go i also did a a little uh assay of all the different aspects in this game so you can do that just by going to fundamentals and

First steps and you can see here the aspects of essentia i went through and counted them all it turns out there are 37 different aspects in form craft and i have counted my essential jars here i have so far created 25 of the total different types of

Essentially that you can make so we actually still have 12 types of essentia to make in the game so yeah there’s still quite a ways to go in terms of uh filling this chest out well actually this chest is almost full of to make this a double chest here i think

But yeah let’s get on with today’s research we would really like to get our hands on the thormium essentia smeltery that way that’s going to prevent us from polluting the atmosphere much further but we’re missing the required research essential tubes which just happens to be right on over here okay i can transport

Essentially around in jars and flasks but that is not useful for large-scale alchemical operations the obvious answer is to transport a century with pipes or tubes but due to its volatile nature no mundane pipe will be able to transport it i should gather some exotic essentia supplies

Or exotic essentia samples and use them to test various materials okay so for this we need to use up an alchemy and artifice observation and let’s see we’ve got a file of whitium okay we need ween column as well alianese and alchemia okay i actually don’t have any of these essentials

To spear i do have a file of aliens but i’d like to save that for the uh the draw level thing that i just explained so looks like i’m gonna need to burn some stuff down uh to get these uh different files of essentia so i’ll be right back

Once i get these going okay welcome back folks i’ve got today’s ascension materials here we’re gonna get the alchemia out of nether warts seeing as we’re farming that now we actually get a little bit of wheatium out of this too but in case we don’t get enough

Wheating on there i’m going to be burning down some of the crusted taint that i got from just the uh well just what happened above our heads there uh the aliens we’re gonna get from ender pearls um yeah this is the only thing we can burn down that actually has aliens in it

Aliens is mostly from the dimension actually but yeah this is this is this is what we have to do and then wind columned surprisingly comes out of doors and fence gates so we could actually just burn down these guys and get a bunch of those but just before i do that

You guys were telling me in the comments of the last video to actually research the uh the taint bros up there as well i forgot to mention this at the start of the episode but yeah we got three new researches thanks to those suggestions from dealing

With the taint we’ve got the taint seed here let’s check these entries out occasionally tight knots of tainted tendrils will form from out of the seed fowl team today will spew which acts as the basis for new taint growth these seeds can lash out to defend themselves but the risk must be taken

If you wish to rid an area you’re obtained without the foul air these seeds create tainted growth soon withers and dies okay yeah so that’s the giant slug guys as i’ve been calling them or as i guess we should now call them out taint seeds alright so

We got those guys we got a this thing here the tantical these dangerous growths look like giant tentacles they’ll lash out in anything that comes nearby though they are immobile keeping your distance might not keep you safe as miniature versions of them will spawn all around you should you draw their attention

Oh dear i do believe i’ve seen these guys in previous versions of tc the final thing we have here is the thumbic slime these purple slimes are a strange offshoot of their green cousins normal slimes form from the organic gunk that occasionally collects in caves but thormic slimes are formed from

The purple protomatter residue left over from magical mishaps oh i love that that’s that feels nicely written apart from their strange origins they are rather similar to their green cousins for the most part they do appear to have the ability to split at will often splitting in spitting spitting splitting into

A lesser version of themselves at targets that venture too close if there are no targets nearby split slimes will endeavour to reform to once again form a larger organism that is actually really cool so i can get back into a giant one again okay yeah so just by the spacing here

You can kind of tell i might have missed a few researches here but i don’t know for sure well we’ve got three of them down anyway uh yeah that’s really fun let’s go ahead and get the uh these items burned down here for the research seriously that much

And i get another flex rift what is worth this playthrough dude it’s just like it it’s just too much is that another one what the heck is that there’s something weird going on oh geez there’s something weird over here oh oh hello aqua v crystal how about that

Actually had to get a little bit a little bit extra but yeah i do have all the spare essentially in here now and i do have all of the files here ready to go i decided to burn a couple extra things so that i could get the extra files in here

For the uh the label collection i guess we could call it let’s grab the essentia tube research here please thank you oh my god i have unlocked the key clearest throw my god i’ve unlocked the key to creating stable and relatively leak-free that’s disturbing tubing while mundane chemicals can be transported in glass

Certain types of essential either dissolve or simply pass right through it by wrapping the glass in iron and treating it with quicksilver i’ve managed to protect it from even the most volatile types of essential brass fittings finish off the piping system and makes it visually appealing the tubes can be connected to

All manner of alchemical devices no water jars and olympics are their primary targets essential flows through the tubes whenever something is connected to them that can accept it like water jars for instance jars containing different kinds of scent she will only draw their kind of essentia towards them

Tubes however can only draw and transport one kind of essentia at a time the highest drawing strength will take priority without the proper use of valves it is quite easy for a network quite easy for a network of tubes to get gummed up the use of valves is essential yes so

This is trying to explain the mechanics of suction here which is like the tubing mechanism i guess for how it works here but it’s not being explained super duper awesomely but i can do that later once we actually start uh playing with these a little more alrighty

When you see a gases being vented from a tube it means different kinds of suction are interfering with each other the color gives a clue as to the type of suction that’s causing the problem tubes can be connected and disconnected from their neighbors by clicking on a section of tubing with a caster

A caster the caster can also be used to click on the central section to rotate certain tubes like the valve okay so what that’s this guy here the no that’s the resonator oh the cast do you mean like the cast is gauntlet i think okay so this thingy is made with

Four iron plates uh nether quartz and a stick and that gets you your resonator aka the tuning fork here’s the recipe for essentia tubes here that needs a quick silver drop they’re now chemical brass nuggets any kind of glass and two iron plates as well as 10v

And that gets you eight per so yeah so one iron gets you four essential tubes basically that’s it is pretty expensive especially for the v especially considering regenerating all kinds of things let’s have a look at these other recipes here the valve so that just takes a tube

And this bad boy as well as 10v okay the filtered essential tube this is one where that only lets a certain type of essential throw but you need to label it with the labels the filters are made with silverwood and two gold ingots and you get two person those are pretty expensive

The restricted essential tube this um that halves the suction doesn’t it which is uh useful for certain types of farms and automated builds that you may want to make or just um pipe making essentially go a certain way those are pretty handy for that the directional essential tube kind

Of works like a diode it only lets uh essentially go through one weight the buffer but just does not explain any of this stuff oh here we go i was about to say yes so this is all explained here a little bit of the resonator is handy for troubleshooting your tube network you

Can use it on a tube or other essentia using device to see what accenture is currently it can currently contains and the suction it is applying yes the valve oh yes we didn’t talk about the valve did we so that’s just kind of like an on off that can be activated with

Redstone or by hand pretty straightforward let’s see yeah so i kind of explained those to you already the buffer there’s a really cool one the essentia buffer allows you to store a limited amount of essential eight points total though it can be made up of any combination of essentia types

Like a jar it has suction though it like a jar it has suction though it applies the minimum amount of suction possible one this means that it use that it is usually only able to draw essential from an essential source it is directly attached to however tubes can be connected to all of

Its sites meaning that it is invaluable for getting us into your head of devices they could contain variable types of essential you could attach bellows to the buffer each attached bellows increases its suction by 32 additionally you can toggle individual connections on and off as with a normal tube but if

You shift-click a connection it will choke that suction back to one blue band or zero red band on that side this allows for some interesting possibilities when routing us into you so basically the essentia buffer what i’ve seen people on like youtube and stuff in the past use these for is just like

Their essential system will be just buffers they’ll just chain them together because it’s like oh yeah it’s easier just to make a bunch of buffers than make an actual essentia system right because it can have many different types and yada yada so but yeah these are really useful

For getting essentially out of like a centrifuge just basically um yeah so it’s kind of hard to explain in like a simple couple minutes video right here what all of the different essential stuff does we’ve got this guy here the alchemical construct okay so yeah this is just one of those

Uh intermediary crafting blocks i believe that’ll be used for crafting recipes down the line here yeah that’s all the basic essential stuff out of the way now we can finally get the thorium essentia smeltery let’s go ahead and grab this bad boy oh boy the basic essentia smelter is quite crude

If i have to be honest with myself it’s extremely inefficient and rather slow yeah i know right i chalk this up to the low quality of the materials it is crafted from i thought i was about to say the low quality of the player yeah thanks i believe thorbium could

Prove useful in improving the smelting process i should run some experiments to see how effective it would be at containing essentia slurry i should probably also improve the pumping inside the smelter itself alright so for this one let’s see we need to have an alchemy theory it looks like we’ve

Actually got one banked that’s nice and we also need to have a thorium plate okay those actually aren’t too expensive i was about to say those aren’t too cheap now those are pretty cheap i think i actually have a couple spare i do perfect perfect i

Love having things ready to go like that almost like i planned it alrighty thormium has proven to be a good choice though not quite as effective as i’d had hoped the thorium smeltery works much like the basic smeltery but it has roughly 90 deficiency instead of 80

Not nearly the improvement i was hoping for but better than nothing i suppose its main benefit is that it breaks down us into your slurry at double the normal speed well i would have really liked this last episode oh my god all right what’s the recipe for this bad boy

Oh my gosh five count em five thormium plates okay in our chemical construct you need a normal essential smeltery and two brass blades two engines crystals okay but that’s that’s not even that’s that’s the least expensive part of the whole thing but a whopping 200 and 50v i can’t even craft that

In this chunk dude i can’t make that here there’s nowhere nearby that has 250v is there so this has got 120 123 that’s actually quite a bit so that’s more than normal that guy’s growing ah okay well yeah we’re going to have to go on an adventure

If we want to craft that thing up aren’t we uh this is something else that we can research today let’s see we could research the essentia distillation yeah i really want to get this going too here let’s actually have a look at this improved essential distillation part one

While essentia smelters can be very fast they could always be faster especially the speed at which they break down the essential slurry into usable essentia yes please oh my god it should be a simple matter for me to speed up this process simply we just need to use up an alchemy and

Artifice observation bish bash bosh job done look at this i’ve discovered a way to make essential smelting faster and more efficient auxiliary slurry pumps each auxiliary slurry pump paint placed on the side of a smelter acts as a secondary processor outputting refined essentia to any olympics placed above it

Alrighty so the recipe for this guy we need an alchemical construct okay two brass plates two iron plates of bellows filtered essentia tube two great with planks irv crystal teravid crystal and thankfully only a hundred v so i can actually make it in this junk so

So that’s good but yeah so these are really handy for um uh having different olympics fill up at the same time basically instead of having just the one thing tick into here at a time we can put some of these pumps on the side here as opposed to these bellows

And have like multiple stacks of olympics filling at the same time i don’t know if you can get three on here you might be able to get three but we’ll have to experiment with that but i’m not 100 sure but there’s uh something else here part two what’s this all about then

Designing the slurry pumps has given me an idea to reduce the amount of flux generated during the smelting process oh yes oh my god i should follow up on those ideas as soon as possible i should have followed up on those deer ideas like two years ago

Okay let’s go ahead and complete this i don’t care what the cast is i’ve discovered a way to manage the flux generated by the smelting process by running the slurry through a secondary set of venting ports fitted with filters i’m able to separate out the flux and safely vent it

As harmless steam yes like the slurry pumps the vents need to be placed on the side of the smelter this process will reduce flux produced by about a third and additional vents will increase this though there are diminishing returns okay so it seems like the ideal setup here

Hmm well see i would rather have my essential vent into olympics slower if it meant that i generate less flux like come on like that that’s that’s this has got to be the way to do it right and these uh i mean it’s not too expensive i still

Can’t craft it in this trunk but that that’s a heck of a lot better than the thormium smelter at least yeah i i think these are these are kind of the better here aren’t they let me know your thoughts in the comments but oh do you think we

Could get the stormatorium today let’s just do like a research let’s just finish off this tree of research all in one go why the hell not i often find myself with a complex essential i’ve no real need for i need to find a way to put all that unused essential

To a practical use right so this is the alchem the essentia centrifuge this is really handy for any farms where you burn down stuff like if you have a farm that produces a lot of oh i don’t know say weak tools essential you can break it down into different

Essentia types to be useful throughout the rest of your base so for this we’re going to need an alchemy theory i don’t have any more banked which means it’s time to head to the research table oh god okay and with that that puts our alchemy uh

Well over a hundred nice so we actually got an infusion theory out of that that’ll come in handy at some point i’m sure had to make a file of more tools here as well in the meantime so we have that essentially now bublabo okay there it is the centrifuge

The alchemical centrifuge is a wondrous invention that allows me to break essentia into its component paths when compound essential flows into the centrifuge from below it’ll be slowly broken down into the primal or compound essentia that it’s made from only one of the components is created for each point of essentia broken down

The resulting essential needs to be drawn from the top of the centrifuge because of the idiosyncrasies of the tube pressure system it would be best to connect an essentia buffer to the top of the centrifuge yes this is one of the main uses of the essentia buffer here so

Yeah because you’re using two essential types or you’re using oneness in geotype rather and it’s breaking down into two different types right so you’re having a buffer on the top will allow it to be drawn out right so because and then from the buffer you can pull it

Out using filter this into your tubes and you know sort of send the essential you’re off to wherever you need so yeah the essential centrifuge is the cornerstone of the automation of several different objects in the world here so the recipe for it is pretty insane actually here looks like

We’re going to need a morphic resonator what’s the recipe for this guy okay so this needs a rare earth okay thankfully they’ve updated the resume here thank goodness two brass plates this isn’t as bad this used to require tank crystals back in dc5 so that’s a nice upgrade 50v

For those still pretty expensive yeah so it’s uh it’s it’s a bit of an involved process to make a centrifuge so having a couple spear for builds and stuff is always going to be nice but yeah the the essentia centrifuge that’s that’s very important that allows us oh

Oh this is one of my favorite things ever the thormatorium i haven’t seen one of these in a while sometimes alchemy can be a hit and miss affair miscounted aspects degrading essentia and ingredients that require manual labor to mix tell me about it i’ve had enough now that i have raw

Liquid ascension available to me i should improve the entire alchemical process it looks like for this we need another alchemy theory and also an artifice observation alrighty well i just happened to be right here let’s get that going oh my god it happened i’ve never had this happen before the rift exploded

Mid episode here i’m just working on the next research here and it looks like it’s gone and i heard the guy suffocating where is he oh yeah yep so this is what happened uh during the twitch stream we just want to keep an eye out for all the any tank tendrils

That may be around they are hurting us here oh there he is but he’s dying there we go it’s diet nice so it doesn’t actually spawn in the same chunk as the taint or maybe it does i don’t know anyway it looks like it happened over

Here for a change which is nice well this gives us an opportunity i guess to to have a sneak peek get some of the off camera building but i’ve been the frick i’ve learned something new it’s a tainted cow i am so sorry for what has happened to you sir madam

You’re just trapped forever you’re just gonna be a a reminder of what once was and what will hopefully never happen again we really need to get rid of that really need to upgrade the system here because that is so bad so bad we just have these flex rifts

Happening all the time but at least this one yeah like sometimes you can have ones that like completely decimate the top of your tower other times you can spot it right as it explodes and all you have to do is just destroy a couple thingies destroy a guy that’s suffocating and you’re good

But yeah so i so i built this today i built this little uh walkway here that’s gonna sort of go through the storage room and at this point i think i ran out of wood and i was just like yeah we’ll just stop for now and started recording an episode

All right let’s get back to researching here uh yeah i’ve got the okay i just missed it in the filming because i’m an idiot but you’ll have to take my word for it i just got 200 alchemy research so i got two theories at once here which is pretty freaking amazing

All right let’s go ahead and finish off this research bablammo all righty alchemical automation i have invented an automated device i’ve named the thormatorium yes like many multipart devices this one must be created using solis mundus the thalmatorium is a marvelous invention that allows a thormaturge

To select which formula to use and what catalysts to add it then automatically draws essentia from available sources using tubes as long as there’s a supply of catalyst it produces the required object perfectly every time the crucible that forms its its base does not require water but a heat source

Is still needed right so like nitor or something like that when i access the device there are several slots the top left slot is where i place the catalyst once i’ve done this i can choose which recipes i wish to craft with that catalyst from a list of possibilities that appear below it

On the right will be shown the essential required in the order that they’ll be required it’ll also display progress bars once the machine is in operation the created object is ejected out the front of the device or into an inventory placed in front of the ejection port normally a thaumatorium can only have

One active formula but by attaching a mnemonic matrix to its side i can increase the number of formulas i can keep track of each matrix increases the number of formulas by two and here is the recipe here this requires two alchemical constructs on top of a

Crucible very nice and you also get the recipe free and mnemonic matrix this guy is made from four iron plates four beats of amber the ingredients crystal order the crystal 50v and this new guy here the clockwork mind uh i don’t think i have the research available to make

That yet that’s probably under the golomancy tab which i have yet to unlock what’s this the potion sprout okay it looked similar to the smeltery so i thought it was so similar to that but no so there is one final thing over here the far advanced essentially a transport

So i believe if this is the same as tc5 this is going to be those i think they’re called transposes which is basically like transporting essentia through the air which is kind of a nice invention if you just really want to save time and effort in terms of putting down essentia tubes

But these kind of take away from the whole essential youtube vibe that the earlier part of the mod has so i’m actually going to skip over transposes in this play through we might pick them up and just uh try them out briefly on video just just for the just for

What’s the word posterity brevity just to show them working but for the most part yeah we’re just going to be using essentia tubes in this particular thorncraft base so that basically is the research for today holy crap that’s a lot of research i think that’s the most research i’ve ever done in the
