What’s going on gamers today we’re going to be going over how to configure luck perms for your apex server Before we get into the tutorial don’t forget to give this video like subscribe and click notification bell so you can get notified of every new tutorial we upload just like this one when you own a minecraft server one of the most important things you need to pay attention to are ranks Lots of server owners wonder how they can make someone an admin on a minecraft server a ranking system a lessors create tiers and differentiate between the default members and staff this also lets you decide which commands each player on your server has access to still it’s important to note That ranking systems don’t come by default in bucket spigot or paper they require a permissions plugin to set up luck perms is the perfect plugin to do this with it’s designed with ease and accessibility in mind and it lets you set up your ranks in minutes With it you’re going to be able to set up and edit ranks and permissions in game or with an interactive online editor from inside your browser no other permissions plugin comes with its own online editor which sets lock perms apart from the rest learning how to create and configure Ranks and permissions can get a bit difficult if you don’t have any prior experience but we’re going to be walking you through every step of the way bear in mind that in order for prefixes and suffixes of your ranks to work you’re going to need a chat plugin such as essentials x chat Which is an extension of essentials x a quick note before we get started on going through how to install luck perms on the panel is if you’re using a bucket spigot or paper server version that is 1.8.8 or newer you can install lock perm straight from our super panel For sponge nukkit and legacy bucket such as cauldron or thermos 1.7.10 you’re going to need to install on the ftp which we’re going to be going over later our first step for installing to the panel is going to be heading to the main panel page and then scrolling down To the jar file selection and then make sure that we have the correct version that we would like to have you’re either going to need bucket spigot or paper past 1.8.8 of minecraft if you’re sure that you have a correct compatible version then you can scroll to the top and stop your server Once your server’s stopped then you can go ahead and click on plugin list to the left of the panel and once you’re here click on sources and make sure that you click the one corresponding to your server ours is paper which is compatible with spigot so we’re going to select that one And then in the name search we’re going to go ahead and type in luck perms one word and then we’re going to find lock perms the correct version that we want for our server and then we’re going to click on it on this page you’re going to see two Different things you’re going to see the versions of minecraft on the left and the corresponding versions across the way on the right on the left side you’re going to see tons of different versions of minecraft and then the right side will be the corresponding version for the plug-in version so as you can See from the top if you had a 1.16 version of minecraft you would be selecting 5.1.26 on the drop down at the very bottom of the page we’re going to go ahead and select that and then click install and then once it’s done installing it’s going to show A couple new buttons on your page once it’s finished updating it’s going to show that it’s installed and it’s going to give you new buttons for disabling or removing the plugin so now that you know it’s installed click on the name of your server at the top of the page And this is going to take you to the main panel page where all you need to do now is either start or restart your server once your server fully starts up you can hop into console and then you can type in the console text box Pl and then hit enter and if luck perm shows up then you’ll know that you have successfully installed lek perms on a your spigot paper or bucket server our first step for installing through the ftp is going to be jumping into google and searching luck perms downloads A couple results are going to pop up here and let’s go ahead and look for the official luck perms page once we click on that it’s going to load up a page and you’re going to see a bunch of different information and a download link to the right If you click on that then it’ll bring you to a page where you select what sort of version your server is since we’re running a bucket or a spigot server we’re going to be selecting that one if you’re running a different version then that’s what you’re going to pick Once we download that all we need to do is keep it and then put it into a folder so we can find it later on just like this one right here now that you’ve got your download you’re going to hop into your main panel page and then stop your server Once your servers come to a full stop then you can click on ftp file access to the left of the panel and then log in with your information once you’re logged in you’re going to need to jump into the folder that is labeled plugins if you’re using Sponge or sponge forge open the folder mods once you’re here you can go ahead and click on upload to the left and this will bring an upload page where all you need to do is open up the folder where you have luck perms click it and drag it to the right side Of the page and it’ll upload all by itself after waiting a bit for it to upload and then you see it had 100 and uploaded one out of one files at the bottom then all you need to do is scroll to the top of the page and then you’ll find your server name There click on that and then it’ll take you to the main panel page where you’re going to end up starting or restarting your server for changes to take effect you’re going to have to wait for your server to hit online fully but once it does you can Go to the left side of the page and click on console where in the text box you can type pl and then hit enter and it’ll show all the plugins that you have installed on your server if you see luck perms there then you’ll know that you have successfully installed luck perms On your apex server if you need to install lock perms on a sponge forge nukkit or legacy bucket server then you’re going to have to install it through the ftp our first step for that is going to be of course stopping the server and once the server comes to a full stop We’re going to go ahead and check what version of minecraft we have as you can see here i have a forged version which more than likely means it’s a sponge forge server go ahead and jump into the ftp panel to the left side of the page log in with your information and then You’re going to want to hop into the mods folder once you’re in the mods folder and you know you have sponge forge installed you can go ahead and click on the upload part of the page then once you’re there just go ahead and open up the folder where your file is Click and drag the file to the right side of the page and once your file fully uploads 100 one out of one files then you can go ahead and click on the name of your server at the top of the page and either start or restart your server But if you’re getting issues with it starting up then you can just jump into console and in console you’re going to want to type fml confirm with a space in between and enter this should start your server back up with luck perms installed on their own permission plugins don’t do Much but they let you set up their ranks and their permissions a permission is essentially a little line of text that tells the server whether or not a specific player can use the command or plug-in functionally every plug-in is going to come with a list of permissions alongside the commands generally you can Find a list of permissions on the plugins download page if it isn’t there then just a quick search of plugin name followed by permissions will get you to the correct place we have a guide on permission nodes linked below the video the words group and rank are interchangeable so don’t be confused When you hear them referred to as either the reason ranks exist is so that we don’t have to assign every player their permissions one by one instead by setting up their ranks owner admin and member for example we can simply assign the player to that rank after which they’ll have all the Permissions from that group in this section we’re going to make preparations so we know exactly which groups and permissions we would like to add to the server it’s important to have a plan in advance so we know how the groups will interact with each other so we don’t assign unnecessary Permissions to any of the groups bucket spigot or paper servers we recommend that you use one of the most common plugins essentials x essentials x contains numerous server basics such as slash home spawn and slash tpa alongside a number of other features we have a guide on how to install Essentials x so make sure to head to the apex minecrafthosting.com knowledgebase and search up essentials x so you can install essentials x with one of our written or video guides after installing essentials x you’re going to be able to find a community maintained list of commands and permissions linked below the video Or you can google essentials x and find their official page and for finding our spongeforge nodes we’re going to start off by heading to google and looking up nucleus downloads and this is going to take us to the official nucleus page once you hit enter and once the results Pop up where the first one is going to be the nucleus page you’re going to see the download link at the very top but if you continue to scroll down past the download link you’re going to see a documentation link which when you click on it Is going to give you a bunch of documentation resources for nucleus including our permissions documentation when you click on permissions you’re going to get a list of all of the permission nodes that are available for your server the reason that we recommend lock perms is because there’s a web Editor now to access the web editor all you need to do is hop into console and type lp space editor and then hit enter what this is going to do is generate a link with that link you can change all of your groups and players permissions It’s super easy and not difficult to do at all so we definitely recommend doing this once that link is generated all you need to do is copy the link and open the link in a new tab in your browser and then just paste the link In and then go to the web page the luck perms editor is super convenient and super user friendly you can start off by clicking on the arrow next to groups to reveal the current groups at the beginning only a single group is going to appear this group is going to be called default This is the group every player will be placed in when they join the server we’re going to be turning it into our builders group for this example you don’t have to name it builders specifically but for this example that’s what we’re going to be naming it we’re going to start adding in our Individual permissions what we’re going to need to do first is head to a permissions page for whatever plugin we’re using for essential sex we’re just going to google the essentials x permission page and then we’re going to find a node copy it and then paste it individually To the bottom part of the page if you’re using nucleus you do the same thing google the nucleus permission node page and then copy them and then paste them in individually or you could copy all of the nodes that you want and paste them into a notepad or something similar you know Whatever works best for you when these are typed in or when they’re pasted in there’s gonna need to be a space in between each and every one of the permission nodes that you place in if you’re typing them in and you don’t necessarily want to finish the rest of the permission node You can just click on the examples that pop up for you this is able to see all the plugins that you have so it might just auto type or fill in the rest or you can just click on it to finish the permission node for you and conveniently once you’re done typing In all of your permission nodes all you need to do is click on the plus to the right and this will place them in either one by one or it’ll group paste them in if you pasted a list and now we’re gonna start to add in our builder prefix to the group To do this you’re going to need to go back to where you type in their permissions and you’re going to start typing in prefix dot zero dot ampersand a lowercase b left bracket capital b builder right bracket ampersand lowercase f and then here’s the breakdown of that The dot zero indicates the weight of the prefix the higher the number the more that prefix will be preferred in situations where a player has multiple prefixes associated with their username as this is the default prefix we’re gonna want it to be pretty low so zero is good for us Ampersand b sets the color so you could find all of minecraft’s color codes online but we’re also gonna link it below the video ampersand f at the end of the prefix makes it so that anything after the prefix is going to be in white this will make It so that only the prefix is colored but the player name is white you could use many color codes with the prefix as you want and then to add the prefix all you need to do is hit enter and then click on the plus to the right and then We’re done with the builders group and our permissions group should look something like this if you change your mind and you want to remove any of the permissions simply click on the x to the far right of the table now we can move on to the moderator group Click on the plus icon next to the groups and start creating a new group this is going to open up the creator group pop-up here’s what the different fields mean group name is the internal name of the group or the name that you’re going to use when referring to A user in commands for this we’re going to use moderator as it’s easy to remember for weight this is going to be the weight of the group and how it affects any prefixes or suffixes we add this can be any number but since we want it to be above our builders group We’re going to make it 50. the display name is an alternate name that can be used for the group for example if you set it to mod you’re only going to have to type in mod in commands instead of moderator in this case we’re just going to leave It blank and then a prefix is what appears before a player’s name in this case we’re going to use ampersand lowercase c left bracket capital m mod right bracket and then ampersand f and then parent is what this group inherits is permissions from since we want our moderators to have all The permissions that the default or the builders group already has we’re going to set this to a default suffix is similar to prefix except it appears after the player’s name in this case we’re just going to leave it blank and then when you click add group you’re going to see that Multiple fields and permissions become pre-filled as they did with a default group we can now add the permissions we want the moderator to have and then for this group we’re just going to add permissions the exact same way we did with the last group by pasting them in or typing them in Following the exact steps as we did with the moderator we can set up the admin group afterwards the group should look something like this and now that we’ve set up all our group’s permissions we’re gonna need to save at the top right of the page and we’re also gonna need to apply once We do save once you click on the save button it’s gonna produce a command to apply into your server simply click on it to copy it and once you’ve copied it then all you need to do is head back to your server’s console then you can just paste the command in But make sure you don’t press enter immediately make sure to remove the slash from the beginning of the command as console doesn’t recognize slash after issuing the command the console should print out lines of the changes you just made to the group now you successfully set up your Permissions and groups on lock perms with the web editor if you’d rather not use the web editor for this you could still set up luck perms with in-game commands however to do so you’re gonna first need to give your own account the permission to use select perms commands game To do so head over to your service console and type in the following command lp user username permission set lp dot and then star you could change your username for the in-game name and then just hit enter after you’ve done so you’ll have access to all of luckperms commands in game Next up we’re going to be detailing how to set up the groups and permissions up with in-game commands but if you’d like a more thorough dive into all the commands luck perms has to offer you could check out its official wiki first up we’re going to want to turn the Default role into our builders role the default role is the role that players are automatically assigned when they join the server by default every player that joins your server is going to be placed into this role we want to give them the builder’s prefix so in game type the following command you’re going To type lp space group space default space meta space and then you can press tab or use the arrow keys to scroll up and down space set prefix 0 space ampersand lowercase b because we want it to be light blue and then the builder prefix followed by ampersand f so that everything after Is white the o indicates the weight of the prefix the higher the number the more that prefix will be preferred in situations where a player has multiple prefix associated with them as this is the default prefix we’re going to want it to be o so that it’s not picked before other prefixes Ampersand b sets our color you can find all of minecraft’s color codes linked below the video or you can google them online ampersand f at the end of the prefix makes it so that anything after the prefix is in white this will make it so that only the prefix is colored But the player name is white you can use however many color codes you would like in a prefix as you want and and now we’re going to be adding the permissions we want our builders role to have the command for this is slash lp space group space default space permission space set space And then the specific permission that we want to assign to it in the case of the builders group we could have the first command be an essentials command something like essentials dot a f k and then we hit enter to set it i’m gonna do two more commands if you don’t wanna Type out the whole thing again you can just do a slash and then press the up arrow key this is gonna bring up the last command that you did all you need to do then is delete anything after the essentials dot so that all you need to do is type in something like Fly or compass or help or home to set all of the permission nodes that you would like for your builder’s role you’re done and then we can just do this for the moderators role first off we’re gonna make our moderators role by typing in slash lp create group moderator And then hit enter and once the moderator group exists we’re going to want to assign it a parent a parent determines what group this group inherits its permissions from since we want our moderators to have all the permissions that the default or the builders group in this example only your group Or your default group doesn’t need to be named builders but for this example that’s what it’s going to be named so we’re going to have this set to default by typing in slash lp space group space moderator space parent space set space default and then we’re going to set the prefix as well The same way we set it for the builders group but this time we’re going to increase the weight as the moderator has a higher rank and we want its prefix to take precedent we’re going to do this by typing in slash lp space group space moderator space meta space set prefix Space 50 space ampersand lowercase c mod bracketed of course and then ampersand f and then hit enter after that we’re going to set up the permissions the same way we did for the builders role with the command lp group moderator permission set and then whatever permission node you would like to assign But the process is going to be the same that we did for the builders role we’re going to type in the command and then pick a permission node we’re going to add a couple different permission nodes and then that’s it really for setting up any certain group After we set up the moderator group we can do the same for the admin group the same way we set up moderators and builders except for this you’re going to want to type in a slash lp group admin permission set and then you can just type in a Star to give them any permissions they would like to have once your admin role is done with you’ll have successfully set up your groups and lock perms with in-game commands so now you’ve got your player rank set up but now you want to promote a player from a moderator or demote them Back to a regular player luckperms makes it super easy if you want to do this with the web editor all you need to do is hop in your console and type lp editor this is going to give you a link to use and then just open that link up in your browser And then you can go ahead and click on the arrow next to users to reveal the current users if no one has joined your server yet no players are going to show up however as soon as someone joins and you open the web editor their names are going to appear under users Then select the player whose group you would like to edit and simply click the plus under their name and to the right of parent groups and choose which rank you would like to give them bear in mind that this will add a rank but it won’t remove any previous ranks They’ve had if you want to remove the ranks all you need to do is click the x next to the rank’s name now that we’ve set up the players ranks all we need to do is save it at the top right of the page and this is going to bring up a pop-up Which will have text that you can copy just by clicking on it once you’ve copied that text all you’re going to need to do is head into the console of your server paste it in but before you press enter you’re going to need to delete the slash at the beginning Of the command and all you need to do is hit enter and then it’ll apply changes to your server one of the awesome things about lock perms is that you can also do this with commands in game the command that you’re going to need to use in-game is going to be slash lp User and then the user name group set and then the name of the group that you would like the user to be put into and then for this one because we would like to be the admin of the server that i own we’re going to be pressing enter which Will make me an admin something else worth noting is that each permission can be set as one of two states this is either true or this is either false true means that it is enabled while false means that it is disabled you might have noticed that the editor Or after you’ve issued a permission command that there is a mention of a permission being set as true this is because by default luck perms assumes that you would like to set a permission to true which is generally what we want however there is a reason to use foss permissions as well The most common usage of this is when we want to negate the inheritance of a certain permission from one group to another or when we want to use the wildcard or the star permission whilst not allowing all the commands the wildcard would enable by default well folks that’s all i’ve got for you Today and as always i hope you have lots of fun thanks for watching if you want to see more great content like this then subscribe or click these videos About This Video
Managing player ranks is an important aspect of running a Minecraft server. Having an effective ranking system allows you to create a hierarchy to ensure your server runs smoothly. You can split regular players from server staff, and decide which commands are available to players on your server.
If you’re using Bukkit, Spigot, SpongeForge, or Paper, rank systems are not included by default. You’ll need a permissions plugin to manage these settings. LuckPerms is the ideal plugin for this situation.
LuckPerms is designed to be accessible and easy to use, and allows you to set up player ranks within a few minutes. You can use it to set up ranks in-game, or with an easy to use editor in your browser. It’s the only permissions plugin with its own web-based editor, which really sets it apart from the competition.
It can be a little challenging if you’ve never configured ranks before, but in this video we’ll walk you through each step of the process.
