Hello and welcome this is eagle-eye 621 and what you see behind me is a fully automated bull farm but what we’re here to talk about today is something decidedly more simple and that’s what you see in front of me right here this is a very simple basic farm but we can Add some nice improvements to it without a lot of effort what you see on the left is typically what people do they get some fences and they pen in some sheep and they walk around and they shear them I have a link in the iCard for some Perfect shears as well and then you come back and you find that a lot of your sheep still haven’t regrown their wool and the problem is exacerbated the bigger you go and the reason is that wool is regrown on the sheep when they eat grass and they tend to eat a giant Patch of dirt into the center of their farms and the way grass spreads is you need a grass block within a certain range in certain conditions in order to spread onto the dirt but because there’s no grass in the center here there’s nothing to spread so it’s forced to come In from the outside which greatly reduces the chances of getting that spread and of course why you still have a lot of sheep that have not read roan their wool so what we’re going to do is show some very basic alterations that don’t require any redstone but will Greatly increase your output and also increase the likelihood that when you come back to your farm all of your sheep will have read roan their wool but we do this we’re gonna do a couple of experiments to show exactly that this will work and with regard to the spread So I’m going to put a grass block right in there underneath this and let’s actually grab some torches so we can keep track of where all of the grass started and started within that block and then we’re going to put one up here put some torch on that and then we’re Going to just put some grass on the top part of this and we already have some grass on the bottom part of that which should give you a pretty good indication of what’s going to happen or not happen now I could have swore that this was different In a different version we are in the current snapshot for 1.16 so either they change that or this is just the way it’s always been so we’ll see if this dirt spreads well I go over the kind of pattern and materials that you’re going To want to use before I do that let me take a quick moment to ask you to scroll down and hit that subscribe button it really does help out the channel a lot so now instead of just doing your basic farm that has a penned in area for your Sheep what we’re going to do is we’re going to make a very specific pattern within that area where we’re going to block off and prevent the sheep from eating the grass now you may want to do this with fence posts but do keep in mind that on occasion the Sheep Apparently are able to eat the grass block that is on the fence post so I would recommend using glass which won’t turn the grass into dirt as you can see under there but also the Sheep won’t be able to eat it does not appear that they’re able to eat the outside for the Fence so if you want to do the outside of fence post that’s perfectly fine now you’re going to want to start by finding a pattern of four blocks in your farm and you’re going to want to come around and put a block just like this this and This so do look at this pattern and what we’re doing is we’re making a bunch of L shapes so you can see from one block to the next it’s over to and up and then over to and to the side over to more and then down and then down again and you’re Going to want to continue this L pattern throughout your entire farm so start with any of these pairs you want and just continue that pattern so that’s two and over one two and over one two and / and then find another one of these pairs and go one two over one two over One two and over until you get to the end and you can also make sure that you go back to make sure it goes through the entire thing one two over one two over and then you can see that we hit the walls you don’t need to change the walls And then find more patterns and more patterns so here’s another set one two over over and over and then just switch again to the next one and then you can see that as we’re starting to fill in we will have a very consistent uniformed pattern where you have these boxes of Four everywhere that are connected and what you’re trying to do is you’re trying to maximize the amount of area excuse me one two and over there you’re trying to maximize the amount of area for your sheep to stand in order to have grass spread onto blocks well at the Same time trying to make sure there is sufficient enough of the seed grass blocks to spread on to that dirt now what you’re gonna want to do if you have silk touch if you don’t you can just top these off and make it too if you do have Silk touch and you are able to get some grass you do want to put the grass on top of that entire pattern but before I do that let me take a zoom out so you can see exactly what this pattern is supposed to look like and you just want To continue this pattern for as big as your farm is and this again gets that nice balance between area for the grass to grow onto while also having area for that grass to seed from and then you go and you top all of these off you can Also get some torches on these and that’s also to make sure that you don’t have any mobs spawning that you don’t want to have spawn and ruin your day next time you’re going to try and collect some of that wool from your sheep and if you want to just have It on all of them it’s perfectly fine and now your sheep will be very happy in this area with plenty of grass to munch on but now to see exactly why all this works let’s head back to where our experiments were so you can see that we Have the the grass that started on top I was able to spread down as you see right here yeah I think I may be blocking some of this because I have done this experiment a lot of times and this grass block is actually able to spread although of course on the video it Doesn’t want to be very cooperative and you could see that we did have some grass spreading downwards but for whatever reason not upwards and that has to do if you look in the wiki about the light level above blocking certain light levels so it doesn’t look like you can Spread up but you can spread down and it does include if there is an air block along the way and this should spread if we give it a little more time maybe a few more dirt blocks in order to read from just so you can see that this does Work and there we go I don’t have to do anything you saw that grass spread just like that so then you will end up with some of these dirt patches of course because it does take a little while for the grass to spread but you can see over here we still have a Lot of sheep that don’t have any wool and this problem gets a lot worse the more sheep you’re trying to cram into a smaller area now if it’s tiny enough it doesn’t really matter because the grass can stretch all the way across but even In this tiny one with not a lot of sheep you still see that there are a couple that have not managed to regrow their wool something like this really does not take a lot more effort than just all in a pen in the first place but it Will allow you to get a much higher quantity of wool because you’d be able to come back and shear them that much faster now I will have an eye card and a link in case you’re interested in something a little bit more automated like this which will just take and fully Automatically shear the sheep for you and the way this one works is actually bypassing dirt blocks grass blocks underneath them so that they always have something to eat this is obviously your no redstone solution you’re just going to jump in and shear them manually to collect that wool for all of your wool Purposes well you found this video helpful I would appreciate a like that’s it interesting maybe even share it with one of your friends and for more videos like this do of course subscribe the YouTube has also given me a join button which is like their version of patreon So if you’re interested in supporting me in that way there is a join button right next to the subscribe button which will tell you about some additional features that are offered and perks thanks for Early Game Wool farms can be pretty simple… trap some sheep in a large fensed off box and hope for the best. Often, you will find the sheep do not regrow their wool very often or fast, and that is because they have eaten all of the grass in the holding area meaning there is none left to spread. With some very simple alterations to the basic design, you can maximize the efficiency and likelihood that you will have wool to shear when you return as the sheep will have plenty of grass to eat, all without a single dot of redstone.
