Whenever I play older versions of Minecraft I’m always amazed by all the differences and how the game feels compared to how it is today take a look at these two videos side by side technically both of them show footage of Minecraft Gameplay but they look incredibly different thanks to the 10 Years of updates that this game has received I always get a little nostalgic whenever I see these older versions nowadays because it reminds me that the game used to be much different when I was younger and first starting out for example because of Hardware limitations the old Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 Consoles could not generate infinite worlds in Minecraft so every world that you created seemed to cut off into the abyss once you got to the edge it’s like being at the edge of a flat Earth or just being stranded on an island in the middle of nothingness newer Minecraft Players who didn’t grow up playing like this might look at these worlds and think oh that’s boring and outdated but as for me someone who grew up playing Minecraft on the Xbox 360 10 years ago it reminds me of when the game was simpler and didn’t have as many bells And whistles as it does today something about this bordered simple Island just feels cozy to me and brings me back to the very first experiences I had playing this game and I think a lot of people can relate to this sentiment in some way no matter how long you’ve been playing Minecraft something about how Minecraft is today just doesn’t really hit the same as how it used to be combat changes annoying new Mobs chat moderation lackluster updates features that make the game more complicated are just a few of the reasons that players list to show that newer Minecraft is worse than older Minecraft but perhaps the most visible change that has caused a lot of controversy with newer Minecraft is the texture changes even someone that has never played Minecraft before can tell that the game looks different between the versions when Minecraft started blowing up back in 2012 the textures and Blocks became symbols in The Gaming Community that everyone could instantly recognize these are not just models in a video game they’re icons in the lives of millions of people that bring them back to their fondest Minecraft memories so why did they need to be changed after All the game has worked fine and amassed a community of Millions with these iconic textures why try and fix something that isn’t broken over the past couple years textures that were over a decade old were thrown out and replaced by smoother more saturated downgrades parts of the game that were Iconic and nostalgic have been tarnished and now the game just looks less recognizable than it used to be at least this is the argument that most of the community is making when it comes to the newer textures from 1.14 to the recent caves and cliffs update some of the Oldest Minecraft textures have been replaced leaving minion and uproar about how awful the game is now but our Minecraft’s textures really worse today than they used to be or is that just our nostalgicelves just thinking about the old days like some video game Boomers let’s find out So a couple of things before the video begins one I know that a YouTuber by the name of the Mr Epic has already uploaded a similar video about a month ago which you should go check out if you haven’t he makes a lot of key points about the History of Minecraft textures and the controversy however in this video I hope to take a different approach to this topic by looking more at the community side of things although I still thought it would be a good idea to mention this before the comments go berserk which I Know they already have so another thing that is problematic with making a video like this is that texture preference is a lot more subjective than other topics I’ve covered in my videos what if Minecraft was free I listed the pros and cons of Minecraft going free to play Minecraft chat report system I listed the pros and cons of having a chat report system in Minecraft on the other hand which one is better option one or option two see I can’t really treat this video the same so please take this entire video with the largest grain of Salt imaginable at the end of the day choosing the better Minecraft Texture is an opinion and everyone’s gonna disagree about something with that out of the way let’s get back to the video to say that people get heated over Minecraft’s various text extra updates would be an extreme understatement I mean you got People threatening to uninstall the game just because 10 pixels are not where they used to be on the wooden plank texture but look I get it I would be lying if I said that I have no problem with any of the newer textures because yes there’s a lot of older textures that I do prefer much more but there’s so much drama in the community when it comes to arguments like this that it gets to the point where both sides are wrong for example one of the worst arguments that’s come out of this controversy is oh if you don’t like the Newer textures just use a texture pack as if that invalidates having an opinion about the updates at all like yeah sure if I didn’t like the newer textures I could just change them back with a resource pack but vanilla Minecraft is still changing and that’s what’s accepted as the norm and just because Someone doesn’t like them doesn’t mean they can’t have an opinion about them in my opinion one of the worst newer textures is the diamond ore texture diamonds are one of the most iconic symbols for progression in Minecraft so it kind of breaks my heart to see The Ore become saturated and lackluster However I am biased because like I said I’ve been playing this game for a decade and and diamond ore is basically a part of my gaming childhood are the newer textures such as diamond ore really worse or is it just my Nostalgia kicking in and being opposed to change I think There is reason behind the claim that Minecraft should be careful changing many of the oldest textures after all these represent the growth and success of Minecraft and it’s a big leap to throw that away to try and improve it change is a risk and it’ll always be met With criticism so it’s best to just leave things as they are if they’re working fine right the problem with this argument is that change is necessary for the game to survive if Mojang wants to avoid criticism every time they add an update or change the game shouldn’t they Just not update the game at all but of course the game needs updates to survive and stay relevant as much as people dislike the combat update myself included it was a change to the game that helped keep it alive the same could be said for a lot of these texture Updates sure a lot of the newer textures have been met with a lot of criticism but at least Minecraft is taking risks as opposed to not updating their game at all so what about the idea behind these texture changes it’s clear that Minecraft is trying to take a more Realistic approach by blending colors more cleanly and reducing the contrast even japa one of the texture designers explained how he wanted Minecraft to look cleaner and be a better representation of the real world but his realism really Minecraft selling point if we were trying to make Minecraft more realistic then trees wouldn’t defy Gravity the MLG water bucket wouldn’t exist and a solid iron anvil should not disintegrate after repairing like three swords actually maybe this just add the last one to the game for Real in fact I think what makes Minecraft recognizable is the Simplicity Minecraft is easy to Pick up and stands out from any other game and the older textures share the same philosophy Bolder lines less shading simpler color palettes sure it might not be as realistic but it stands out a lot more because it’s simpler it kind of feels like the newer textures Are trying to fit as much high quality as possible within that 16 by 16 pixel Square whereas the older textures embrace the fact that the game is pixelated and create a style of their own and that makes the newer textures less iconic because the game is sacrificed in the style it’s always had In hopes of achieving a higher quality product but who knows maybe the newer textures will be memorable for the neck Next Generation despite all the changes after all this is just my own speculation and opinion but a lot of the community seems agree with that possibility and often very Passionately and why is that why are people fighting so damn emotionally over if the older or newer Textures in a video game are better why is this such a controversial Topic in the Minecraft Community the truth is this sure the newer textures might be less iconic and Sure this one looks better than this one blah blah blah but at the end of the day Nostalgia plays a huge part in making the community resistant to change and making people prefer the older textures we all remember how the game used to be when we first started playing and every Time mojing tries to change that we panic I started a YouTube short series a little while ago comparing older textures with new ones and many of the comments especially those favoring the old textures were extremely passionate or heated with their opinions and this level of intensity doesn’t really come About unless the argument has some emotional meaning to us such as Nostalgia from our first memories playing the game I agree with you I think that there are a lot of new textures that look absolutely horrible compared to their ancestors but I have to acknowledge that my Nostalgia for This game greatly influences my opinion no matter how many reasons I list to show that old sponges look better than the new ones plus there have been a lot of texture updates in Minecraft’s history that were generally approved of by the community people don’t always think of these it’s okay to prefer some Of the newer or older Textures in Minecraft after all it’s your own opinion and hey even if you’re biased by Nostalgia that’s okay but you don’t need to be so dramatic about it I’m quitting Minecraft if this update goes through bruh except that your Nostalgia is making this emotional for you and move On just play the damn game oh Foreign Video Information
