How to Loot an Ancient City and Not Die in Minecraft

Everybody and welcome back today we are going to be taking a look at ancient cities i know this doesn’t look like an ancient city right now but we’re gonna get to it and what it is like to search through in ancient city in survival mode and some tips and tricks

On how to do that effectively without getting completely destroyed by the warden so starting off let’s talk a little bit about gear luckily inside of an ancient city it should spawn inside of the deep dark biome and in the deep dark biome really no mobs spawn except for the warden so

We actually don’t have to worry that much about what type of armor we have uh even like picks or uh weapons like you know getting good enchantments on your sword or your bow or whatever like it’s kind of not required because you don’t need to be fighting really any type of mob because

The warden is a mob that you want to avoid so i have diamond gear but seriously you could do all of this without like you could basically do it without gear uh if you are able to immediately find an ancient city the next thing that i feel

Like you should have is lots of torches and lots of wool doesn’t matter the color but if you could start a wolf farm early there’s a few very easy ways to automate wool production uh i would highly suggest it because you’re going to be using wool an awful lot we also

Want some type of projectile be that snowball or egg either of them stack to 16 so there’s no real advantage between those two the egg might have a chance of spawning a chicken but that’s not really that big of a deal and maybe a snowball would be

Difficult to find if you don’t have a snowy area close by the easiest thing to do is make a snow golem because wherever a snow golem paths to uh it will put down some snow and then you can just pick that up with a shovel and then you

Get lots of snowballs so either if you have an egg you know situation if you already have chickens just take those or a snowball and then finally you want some food and maybe a night vision potion or two uh once again there are no mobs that spawn

Underground uh in the ancient cities so you really don’t need to torch up to make sure that mobs aren’t spawning but i like to torch up anyway just to know where i’ve been and uh it and you know the darkness effect kind of gets a little bit weird

With night vision so i like to use torches just so i know where i’ve been and i don’t double loot chests and continue to open chests that i don’t need now a shield is kind of not necessary i kind of added it just because normally in survival i’ll i’ll have a

Shield with me um and then also you probably just want some type of block too you know and if you’re a normal survival you’ll probably have plenty of those so let’s talk briefly about finding an ancient city uh so i’ve already obviously found one here in creative mode here is the ancient city

And if you’re struggling to find one they are pretty rare so what i would suggest is right here we are at y level 51. you can see that right there negative 51 i guess i should say specifically and so and that’s where every ancient city is going to be it’s

So if you are strip mining for diamonds uh really the lower you are the better chance you are gonna find diamonds in uh in the new or generation uh but you may want to change that to negative 51 so that you could potentially find an ancient city so you may accidentally

Strip mine into an ancient city that would be nice for you so this one’s actually very weird because this portion of the ancient city doesn’t have the deep dark biome and i’m going to go ahead and drink a night potion just so we can see a whole lot better um you can

See a big big difference uh with the night uh potion there and i’m gonna do all of this in survival but it’s kind of crazy because this portion of the ancient city doesn’t have any of the skulk blocks it doesn’t have any of the skull sensors or

Uh skull catalyst or skull shriekers so this section is actually very safe and i can just go around uh and empty any of these chests that i want oh one final thing sorry on uh the things that you may want is uh a shulker because you’re going to

Find an awful lot of loot and a lot of it like these books or these potions uh they don’t stack so a shulker box would be great to have if you already if you found one with the magic of commands i’m uh i’m gonna give myself a

Shulker box i’ve already found this is insane i’ve already found an enchanted golden apple that is pretty cool also when it comes to your like snowballs and eggs and whatnot uh you don’t really need to have those in your inventory slot i feel like because you’ll know when the warden is coming

Quickly open up your inventory and move that to the appropriate place so that you know you can distract the warden but uh you don’t necessarily need it like in your hot bar uh immediately every single one of these structures should have uh a some type of chest in them there’s that

One right there with this one specifically i like to kind of do this little hop over there and get to it so enough with the easy mode uh where we actually don’t have the deep dark uh biome sitting around here uh let’s get to what it would be if uh you know

Things were a little bit more difficult and we actually had the deep dark biome and so i think that starts over here somewhere there it is so uh this first structure doesn’t so we’re gonna loot that and i’m gonna go ahead and clear my night vision effect

Just so that you can see what it would be like if you didn’t have the night vision potion if maybe you hadn’t gone to the nether and gotten glaze rod yet i could see this is a very early game situation so we’re gonna head into this

Area and this does have skulk stuff so this will have the sensors and shriekers and whatnot and i can barely see them uh over here and i’m holding down uh shift i’m crouching an awful lot and what we’re gonna do is we are going to put down some wool and this wool

I’m just going to cover these skulk shriekers in wool and so that’ll require five wool for each uh shrieker there there we go last one and now that those shriekers are covered up i can just put down torches like normal uh all you have to

Do is work is you know worry about the shriekers uh all these guys you don’t really have to worry about breaking them or anything like that and now that i know that those are pulled up or covered up i can loot like normal i can open

Stuff and i’m not worried that a warden is going to get called and also wool is awesome because when you put down wool it will not accidentally send vibrations to anywhere so while i’m trying to build and while i’m trying to set things down i can use wool as my block to build

With and i’m not accidentally going to set off any type of uh shrieker or uh skulk sensor or whatever and that is one shulker box already full and i have there’s a lot more of this place to uh to explore another tip is anytime you see any of these pathways

With wool the wool will dampen your footsteps so you can run across it like normal i’m gonna get to these stairs here a lot of times the upper floor also has wool i think it’s been burnt away from the lava and also know that you can jump while

Crouching and that will not uh set off any of the skull sensors or anything like that uh also if things are just way way too dark for you remember that vibrations uh well i guess not i was gonna find vibrations can okay yeah they can be so they can be uh

Hidden so they’re directional right uh but it looks like that got around uh that block so if i absolutely need to set down uh a torch say and i have uh you know this sensor right here i could make sure to set wool directly on the edge of it and then i

Could put a torch right here now this won’t work in this situation but i may be able to put down wool there and then over here and then hopefully i think i have my angles covered oh no it looks like i didn’t so you can see that you can set off a

Chain reaction quite easily uh which obviously you don’t want to do and now i have this guy here i’m gonna cover him up so that i don’t accidentally trip him off uh trip the trip that again and then you know have a warden head my way there we go okay looking good

And uh basically you know these patches will only have like one or two uh shriekers but see like right there like i didn’t realize there was some sensor over there so i got to be careful uh of that but in general if you’re like far enough away from a patch

You don’t have to worry too much about setting off a shrieker am i here at the portal what is what is this no this is just a walkway okay it looks cool but this is a reason that you’re gonna go through a lot of wool is you want to cover

Every single one of these shriekers uh up and that requires basically five wool every single time and there are a lot of them so there we go now i think that that through that gap i may just be unlucky here we’re gonna test it here see

I have a feeling that through a diagonal gap uh that will um cause issues so sometimes when they’re sitting on a block like that either try to fill this in we got really unlucky here because there is a uh uh a sensor right there which i think if i break it

Okay see i broke that one and because it was directly diagonal i think that it was activating that and so now i think that that uh shrieker is completely filled and so i’m not worried about putting down torches and keeping on exploring and remember if there is no sensor around the shrieker crumbs

Uh you don’t have to worry about it right uh so if that doesn’t exist then you don’t have to worry too much about uh about the shrieker and then also you know in that situation this is the only one that can activate it i can

Set wool on the sides of that or i could try to put will only uh in those little areas right there and then if that’s the only thing that could possibly activate it so now there’s wool blocking that because those vibration particles are so directional you can create walls between them so

That they won’t set off okay so eventually you will have a warden spawn i’m not even sure there he is up there and the best thing is don’t freak out man you’re good you’re good uh so he’s gonna sniff uh the player out so the name of the game is constantly move

But then also don’t cause any more vibrations like no more vibrations and we just have to wait for 60 seconds for that warden to go back underground and just move away from him uh keep constantly keep moving because anytime you hear that sound that sniffing sound that

Means that the warden uh knows your location and is headed towards you and i’m gonna go ahead and set down that and then that so i can see a little bit better and so we’re just moving away we move so far away that we don’t have the darkness effect anymore which is fantastic

And after 60 seconds that warden is going to forget all about us in the rare rare case that the warden is like right up on you this is when you need to throw some type of projectile remember that resets the 60 second timer so we want to not do

This that much and it also aggravates the warden even more and once you hit a certain amount of aggravation that warden is locked on target and basically you are going to die so you don’t have many times that you can toss a projectile without the warden becoming super angry and

Just completely focused on you and and you’re unable to to break uh that wardens concentration um so we want to use these as uh only like when we absolutely have to and we’re so far away we don’t have the darkness effect anymore we are so so

Far away uh that he can’t even sniff us out so when you lose that darkness effect you’re you’re far enough away that uh even if the warden is doing that sniffing uh sound uh you’re good you’re you don’t have to worry um about anything so now that he has

Gone we can head back towards where we were looting and continue our uh run of this place wow i have five five enchanted apples that’s insane so in this situation i’ve had a warden here for a long time and he’s not leaving i think that he’s

Stuck and he’s in a spot where he cannot dig down and i’m aggroing him enough that i think he may lock on target here and just get super angry with me so one of his uh attacks is you know his sonic blast and so we don’t want him to use that on me

Um but it looks like it’s impossible for him to move can you move over there’s something my friend uh so one thing with these snow balls is you know his range is actually kind of limited so if you just like are like oh my gosh get

Out of here and you just toss a ball uh snowball like super far away there’s a good chance that he’s not going to notice it you actually kind of need it to be close enough to him for him so you have to be kind of strategic like how close am i going to

Throw it uh but i obviously want him to move far away from me so i want to throw it far but i can’t be too far otherwise he’s not going to uh to leave you know he’s not going to notice it so he’s not going to head anywhere yeah our warden

Is definitely stuck he’s not getting down and he is in a too high area so he can’t get up either go over there go right there maybe i’m just gonna aggro him so until i die here so you see his uh heart rate heartbeat is beating a lot faster

And that is a a sign that he is uh getting more and more angry we don’t want that this is a bad that’s a bad thing so i’m just gonna move away uh from him uh and hope that maybe he can figure himself out there that’d be great i don’t think there’s

Any other loot over in that area that i needed anyway i have this really another oh okay no i was gonna say i keep getting areas that don’t have any um uh well that was not gonna work um i don’t have any of the of the

Deep dark in them which is kind of crazy now there are gonna be a few situations where it’s kind of hard to tell what to do like right here i can see that the i have these chests i don’t think i’ve seen every single sensor around

But i don’t see any shriekers at all so i’m like oh my gosh there’s gonna be something that gets me and that’s where you know you you kind of think well i got at least three chances also after i’ve heard a sensor go off and a shrieker not fire

Because it’s just not close enough then i’m like okay well i’m good i’m i can just go and loot all all that i want so it’s hard to tell but that’s actually the portal area so there should be a little space underneath here there is that uh we’ll have some redstone stuff

In it i didn’t have anything to actually open but uh oh wow oh we started off a shrieker i don’t actually think there’s really any loot down here okay and there is a warden uh let’s not be in a confined tiny space uh while the warden is about one other

Thing to note is that uh standing on top of a skull shrieker will set it off so if i was to accidentally have stepped on it uh that’ll do the same thing as if oh oh oh he’s literally right there okay i cannot see a thing

Oh baby where are we where are we oh my gosh i think that he’s right on me okay i had to get off of that but i think that i put down some wool in this situation i may uh brighten the video for you guys but uh you know i can barely see

Anything rums probably notified him there he is oh no oh no hold down shift walking away as fast as i can so situation like this is kind of where i want my night vision because i can’t see anything now i may okay good so you can set off uh sensors with night vision

Um and uh like i said earlier like it’s a little bit weird in that darkness still affects uh your night vision uh so you sometimes you know it’ll still get pretty dark um but it’s way better like it’s way way way better um to manage this and i don’t see any okay

There we go okay good he’s way over there so i can kind of run without fear and i’m gonna run over this direction drinking a bottle can activate sensors and also throwing bottles on the ground uh so throwing items out can also activate sensors i think he’s right over there and

So you want to be aware of that uh when you’re drinking a potion if you think that that will be game over for you you know obviously hold off on drinking the potion right then well uh this is gonna end off i haven’t looted literally everything in uh this ancient city but i

Did want to just show you uh what i’ve got so far and we haven’t died once we’ve been in survival the entire time so we have a ton of enchanted books swift sneak three on this one lots of uh depth strider i got a channeling two that’s pretty neat we

Got lots of potions of regeneration regeneration ii some glow berries enough disc fragments to make an entire new music disc five we also were able to get nine echo shards which means that we can put that around a compass which we found uh to make the recovery compass oh you know

What we even got more of that i forgot to uh double that up so we got 12 echo shards look at that we got seven enchanted golden apples which is uh absurd oh i missed that lure three book over there there’s a lot of um armor that i

Just left behind we got some other music discs as well some soul torches if you care for that lots of skulk blocks and a few diamond hoes this one has efficiency five unbreaking three fortune three mending on it so that is an incredible uh tool right there and i

Was able to find one skeleton skull so a really good loot run from me i hope that you’ve learned a little bit about how to tackle an ancient city and uh you know the warden and uh i would say really comes down to having a lot of wool and

Sneaking a lot and that’s really it just avoid the warden and and you’re good this is actually a little bit more early game than i realized at the start of making this video i thought this is going to be a lot more late game stuff but really other than the shulker box

Which is not required you can obviously head back to your base and set you know put down a chest or two um and uh and you’d be fine you wouldn’t need uh the shulker box so other than that all this is actually fairly early game uh
