excited to have all of you here today This is our fourth minecon we’ve been in las vegas we’ve been in paris we’ve been in orlando we took a little time off and now we’re here in orlando not orlando we’re here in london and we are so excited to be here are you guys pretty excited to be in london too We had people travel as far as from new zealand to get here which is just crazy we have 73 countries represented in the audience which is mind-blowing and today we’re actually getting an award for this audience so we’re we’re here he is over here and he’s going to explain the award that is Going out to this audience that is in this room today hello my name is alan pixley and i am an official guinness world records adjudicator it is with great pleasure for me to announce that minecon is now an official guinness world records title holder and the record you have received is the Largest convention for a single video game that is for minecon 2015 10 000 tickets sold all that’s left for me to say is minecon you are officially amazing thank you so much so this is for all of us which is really really incredible and awesome So thank you this is a maybe we’ll just keep bringing this to mind cons and keep getting more because it will get a little bigger every year it will be great you know i didn’t i didn’t actually think about the fact that i would be holding this the rest of the time I wonder if i could find someone trustworthy to hold it for me let’s see i don’t know i’m not sure that section looks kind of scary over there anybody trustworthy oh okay can i can i give it to you sir would you mind holding this for us is that You won’t steal it though like you’re really gonna take care of it with that i’d like to welcome the mojang team who’s all up here stand up guys and wave hello please welcome to the stage pontius westerberg from un habitat hi everyone how are you i’m from the united nations And for the last three years we’ve been working together with mojang in minecraft on a fantastic project we’re using minecraft as a way to involve young people in urban design projects in developing countries we’re working all over the world using minecraft and it really really works we’ve been in mexico We’ve been in mexico kenya nepal bangladesh lots of different countries and it’s a fantastic project that really really makes a difference to to people’s lives in in poor countries but i’m not going to talk too much about it we’ve got a video that we want to show you so without further ado let’s Put that on i always see the minecraft version first and then i kind of you feel when you walk around like oh i kind of know this place because i’ve seen it before in the game which i guess is a testament to how even in some even in a game that says Low resolution and blocky you can still get the feel of the world around you block by block is a joint program between uan habitat and mojang where we’re taking minecraft in workshops to allow local residents to redesign their public spaces in their own areas un habitat works with local authorities and Communities to put together the minecraft design workshops then we fund the projects so they can be built in real life so far we’ve done projects in kenya india haiti and recently in nepal the great thing about these workshops is that people are just playing minecraft they’re using the game the way it was Built to be used but then those creations that they make in-game are being built in the real world when you look at a 2d drawing it makes it very difficult to understand like okay here’s one building here’s another building but what does that actually mean when you Can walk around in minecraft and realize here’s the pond here’s the building then it makes it so much easier so it breaks down the barriers no one has to have any prior knowledge of the game to be able to understand how it works at the end of the workshop each Group presents their ideas to the local community and to city council where they will decide what will end up being built you know what we do is that we actually give youth a language which they can speak to the local authorities with a language which they understand better Than the local authority gives them more strength in the dialogue for years people have been using minecraft to build these amazing creations you know it’s fun it’s entertaining it’s creative and now some of those creations are being used to change people’s lives we are incredibly proud of the work that We’ve been doing with un habitat and we’re just blown away by all of the workshops that we’ve been able to do around the world if you want to hear more about that tomorrow at 12 30 pontius is going to be having a panel with our very own fire uk who’s always Building the sites and they’re going to tell you more about the specific projects and all the things that are happening we also have a really another really cool initiative which is education and so with that i’m going to welcome our ceo mr vu a stage boo hello everyone whoa There’s a lot of people here people here yeah yeah now we’re talking over each other minecon number four so exciting and this year we have a lot of things to talk about and the first one i want to bring up is how we use minecraft in education Before i talk about that we have a brief video to show you to kind of talk a little bit about what we’re thinking about for the future of minecraft being used in education we gave you a world a world where you could simply create a block and destroy it A world where the only limit is your imagination and you taught yourselves how to build funny creative bombastic epic unexpected and amazing things and you took it even further into the world of education so the question is can minecraft help us to understand mathematics history how to communicate Collaborate to solve problems and much much more you’ve shown us it can the first steps have been taken and now we invite you to show us how minecraft inspires you to change the way we learn exciting right how many of you would like to play minecraft in your classroom that would Be great that would be pretty awesome i used to be a teacher and i wish that i would have had something like minecraft to be able to just go into the world and explore and create so many things with my students yeah if you want to learn more about minecraft and education and How we can use this amazing game in classrooms and other educational environments there’s a booth inside the trade show hall visit them they will tell you all about it yeah actually while i have you here vue could you tell us more about what’s happening at minecon please do you guys want to know What’s happening in my gun okay well as i said we have various booths so we have all these different exhibitors who are here to show various things that they are doing with minecraft we have booths about servers and we have various things about different tournaments and The tournament stage and i don’t want to give away too many things but let’s do a little preview of one of the cool things that you’ll be able to see over there it’s another video wanna see it all right mattel just sent us the stop motion movie creator to try out our hand Animation so in a couple minutes i’m going to get the mojang team in here we’re going to have our little cast of characters and do our first video together today we’re testing a beta of the stop-motion movie creator that we’re making with mattel since there were Seven of us we wanted each person to have a specific role so we could just move through the creation process okay so we are going to we can set it up however we want what’s our movie name going to be it means the word amazing it’s the most amazing movie Ever made there you go done so we can do a shot without him a shot where you see a little bit and then we’re taking the first photo steve the most important thing to remember is to touch uh make the moves very lightly very simple that we don’t Yeah i was really excited to get to be director of the stop-motion movie but unfortunately it seems like my clumsiness is making it so everyone’s kind of banishing me from being anywhere near the set i’d draw it before us okay i’m in the timeout corner i’m jeff and i’m the lead developer for Minecraft steve is crafting and having fun and then there are monsters chasing him we made the most amazing movie ever it was it was great fun it was so fun yeah it was a lot of fun we got so much more out of it and so many more ideas that definitely make More movies i was the director of photography which basically meant i clicked the screen after everyone else did their work i’ve made one other stop-motion video before and i knew it’s so difficult but today was really fun just having a group of people all giving input but i’m kind Of excited to try it by myself and see like what story i’ll create and now he grabs the story spider jockey needs to move slow nice that’s awesome okay all right are you guys ready to see this masterpiece he’s running he drops the sword so mattel will have that at their booth and It’s just one of the many things that you’ll be able to see in the expo hall we work very closely with all of our partners to create the best possible things for the minecraft community so when you’re over there you will see all new things things that haven’t shown Before and just you’ll be able to run around and play and do tons of stuff it’s amazing but what else is happening okay well we have panels everyone loves to go to panels right every year we have excellent speakers who are kind of masters of whatever topic they’re talking about Come and join us and share their information share their experiences and knowledge so that people can learn from them or maybe just enjoy some of their experiences actually panelists all panelists stand up let’s thank them before they’ve even done anything stand up in waves let’s thank our panelists Every year they come and they spend not only the time here with everyone here but also the preparation and everything it takes to bring these panels to minecon and they’re one of the best things here are here we have 17 well children and teens who chose their wish through a wish organization like make a wish and we have other ones Present to decide to make minecon the thing that they wish to come little early we wanted to make this the best weekend ever for them and we’re so thankful to have them here so if you see any of them they all have badges on make sure you say hi and just they are they actually we want to make it cooler better bigger than the last year and we want when you come to minecon and walk Through those doors for you to feel like a part of minecraft has crept into the world and you’re walking through it so when you go over to the expo hall later on you’ll see all these various things that greg and his team have built for us this year I don’t want to give away too much actually it might take away some of the surprise but did anyone see those beautiful iron golems in the hallway that’s just a preview of what’s in the expo hall have a ride here at minecon that was built on location that you’ll all get to Experience obviously there will be a line but here we are in england and people like to queue here so we figured it would be okay there’s an experience you may have seen it on the brochure it’s called small world it will be opening later today so listen for an announcement about that And don’t worry there will be time for everyone to experience it and that will run throughout the two days i’m not gonna give anything else away but it’s really cool that sounds pretty awesome so we’ve talked about a bunch of cool things education block by block with a few more things That lydia’s going to talk about and these are just some of the cool things that you’ll get to learn about here at minecon so there will be more things to come you know our new partnership with microsoft has brought a lot of great opportunities and things that we will Get to do that will take minecraft in directions that we didn’t even know we could do before and on in that light we want to talk about minecraft on microsoft hololens so unfortunately we weren’t able to bring the camera set up to make it so everyone Could view it here but we wanted to re-show the e3 briefing video because we figured there’s probably quite a few of you in the audience who missed out on all of the excitement that we had three weeks ago including me getting laryngitis and almost not being able to please enjoy today we are very excited to show you How microsoft hololens can change the world of gaming to show you how it works let me introduce brand directorate mojang lydia winters lydia thanks cuda four years ago at e3 i met the moyang team for the very first time soon after i joined them on this unbelievable adventure This game has changed millions of lives including my own in the past five years we’ve been blown away by the amount of people who have been playing our game the community’s incredible creativity has taken minecraft into places we never could have imagined every day we see new and exciting things being made On july 4th and 5th in london we are going to have the biggest minecraft celebration in the world at minecon 2015. we can’t wait to share more with the community there and be inspired by their ideas we’re always trying to harness new technology and create new ways of playing the game With that in mind please let me welcome sax pearson from microsoft studios and we’re excited to be able to show a new version of minecraft built specifically for microsoft hololens thank you lydia to show our demo today we’re using a special camera this display technique is like putting a Holo lens right on the camera itself allowing the entire audience to see the holograms now this is a live demo with real working code let’s hear what it can do you can play the minecraft you know today on hololens sax grabbed his xbox controller to play through a giant Holographic portal into a 3d minecraft world right on the wall even though i don’t have a hololens i’m able to play together with sax from my surface are you gonna come join my game lydia i’m in now i see you jumping around one of the cool things about hololens is That it lets you display minecraft virtually anywhere you can get different perspectives on your minecraft world it’s awesome to play with the controller but can we show them something new sax sure let’s take our experience off the wall and then put it on the table over here create world I see lydia way up there as i run around the place can easily navigate and manipulate the world using his voice and his hands he can walk around the hologram pan around for different viewpoints and even look inside let’s follow lydia around for a bit follow player I can zoom in and out for a better perspective closer all the way in close up what are you up to lydia i’m hopping in a minecart let’s take a ride down to the village we’re going to pick a different perspective overview it’s incredibly cool to have minecraft On your table imagine seeing your own worlds like this isn’t it crazy that i see sax just standing at the table but through the hololens he can see a whole minecraft universe at his fingertips you can even raise the entire world and see things that are normally hidden way underneath the ground Could you give us a sneak peek of what’s under that village tax sure grab the world lift it up let’s see what’s hiding underneath lydia huge stronghold right underneath i’m gonna mock that for you mark that i see it i’m on my way there now I’m placing some tnts so i can blow my way into this stronghold i i could use a light though sacks using hololens i have access to all console commands in minecraft just using my voice but i can just focus my gaze on the tnt and say lightning strike step back whoa There’s a lot of materials down there i wouldn’t have seen without you there’s one more thing i want to do with lightning see a pig pen over here i think the pigs need an upgrade lightning strike there you have it zombie pikmin from playing minecraft on your wall to An entire world right on your table microsoft hololens gives the community a different way to play in the world they already love we will have even more minecraft news to share at minecon in a few weeks thank you so one thing we didn’t get to do at e3 Was talk more to two of the people who have been working so hard to create this experience so please let me welcome sax who is in the video with me who is the lead developer of minecraft on hololens and our lead developer of minecraft jeb come up guys hello there It feels amazing to be able to share what we’ve done on hololens like doing something this futuristic and different is unbelievable but like we have to rethink everything like we’re used to mouse and keyboard we’re used to joypad we’re used to touch but putting holograms in your living room is something completely different And we wanted to share it as soon as we possibly could for everybody to get a chance to give their input and this is the phase that gets really exciting we now have enough and now we’re listening and with that we brought a little special surprise so We’re going to be giving away 25 golden tickets throughout minecon come to the microsoft booth and you’ll get a demo tomorrow over 15 minutes of get to experience exactly what we did on stage where you can do whatever you want to inside my minecraft on hololens For the people who win a golden ticket for the people who made their golden ticket yes yeah i think the most important thing to remember that everything you saw actually works uh so it’s it’s quite amazing and i i love how you can lean forward and look At all the small creatures and other players it’s really amazing i have never studied the pigs as much you can get all the way in and look them in the eye so how has it been sax for you working with jens to decide on all the features that are in this version I think we we brought the hololens version up and then jens flew over to see it and we both looked at it and then we sat for two hours and just brainstormed go oh my god wouldn’t it be cool if wouldn’t it be cool if Wouldn’t it be cool if and then we did maybe five percent of that and that and that’s what you see right now but i think because it’s so different like it just felt like there’s so much to explore here so we wanted to get the navigation in so you Can get around your minecraft world see it slightly differently and then from now on it’s it’s about like getting the experience perfect and what about for you yes well obviously this was completely new to me as well so it was very difficult to like Think in in a new way like this it’s a completely new way to look at things and but it it was really fun to work on it so it turned out really well i think yeah what’s your favorite thing both of you in the the current setup What feature do you like the most i have two features okay um one is i think playing on your wall at any size screen you want to play at but also the wall being like an active portal where i can look in and i can sort of look up in The sky depending on how i’m standing is it never gets old and then and the second thing is lightning strike like there’s something about lightning strike that you just can’t stop it’s incredibly fun what about for you well for me it’s definitely just to be able to see like The world from like a ant farm perspective that you can actually see look around and everything almeida to your world it’s very i mean it’s it’s quite amazing it is really amazing thank you so much saks i will keep yens here for a second thank you So vu told us a bit about things that are going on but i wanted to know more specifically with minecraft what’s going on this weekend that people can expect to see well tomorrow on the sunday we will going to have two panels where you get the chance to listen to the minecraft Team discussing how how we how we work and also what we’ve been working on so there will be one panel where we’ll show you the upcoming features of the first 1.9 snapshot for pc so we added a lot of cool stuff to the piece of game and you will also Be able to see what we’re planning um for the updates for a pocket edition and we have uh like with the both the stockholm and the redmond teams they are adding so many things now so it’s plenty to see and in the other panel we will Because it’s a little bit more nerdy a panel so we will talk more about how we work the tools we use and we like difficult technology things that we’ve been trying to solve
