Minecraft 1.20 – Potion Brewing Guide

Hello everybody welcome back to another video and in this video i’m showing you all the potion recipes in minecraft 1.19 so if you like my videos like this one then please make sure you leave a like and subscribe to the channel for more micro tutorials like this one and so

Today we’ll be going over all of the different potions you can brew using the brewing stand which you craft like this with three cobblestone and a blaze rod so let’s just get started so using the brewing stand you can brew three potions at the same time what you need to get is

Some water bottles which can be obtained by first crafting glass bottles like this and then right clicking these on a water source then you can put these in the brewing stand like so and then you also will need some blaze powder which we’ll put in the top left slot up there

So now the broom stand is ready to start brewing so there are a couple of options you can start with let’s go through the least useful ones first so if you start with adding a piece of glowstone dust to your potions this will actually make them thick potions and they are actually completely

Useless thick potion no effects you can’t do anything with these potions and so you’ve just ruined three perfectly good bottles of water but of course you can just drink them and they get your glass bottle back at least so you can start again but you did see that all

Three potions became thick potions and this works for everything i’ll show you in this video all the three potions or water balls you put in here become the same thing and so similar to the thick potion there’s also the mundane potion which you get if you put in either a

Piece of redstone or a magma cream or sugar or glycerin melon or blaze powder or rabbit’s food or a gas steer or a spider eye if you put it straight in there when you put in a water bottle at the bottom it will all make a mundane

Potion which just like the thick potion does completely nothing no effect and you can’t do anything with this potion don’t ask me why is it in the game it just is alright then your next option to put in your brewing stand with the water bottle is a fermented spider eye so

Let’s try that so if you put a fermented spider eye in our brewing stand with a water bottle at the bottom down here we will get a potion of weakness here we go it’s almost ready and there it is a post of weakness you’ll get the weakness effect for 1

Minute and 30 seconds which reduces your attack damage by 4 and then afterwards you can also increase the length of this potion and this is always done by adding a piece of redstone if you want to increase the length of a potion the only

Thing you need to do is add a piece of redstone dust this works for 90 of potions i’ll go over the ones where this doesn’t work for later on in this video but adding a piece of redstone dust increases the weakness effect from 1 minute and 30 seconds to 4 minutes in

Total as we’ll see here poison weakness lasts for 4 minutes it doesn’t change the amount of weakness it applies only the length then after you’ve brewed any kind of potion it is also possible to make it a splash potion because these poisons need to drink and splash potions

You can throw and that is done by adding a piece of gunpowder like this and so while we’re brewing these kinds of potions you can also see that while brewing potions the amount of blaze powder here will get reduced slowly so you have to re add some blaze powder to

Make sure it doesn’t run out at some point there you go we added our gunpowder to our potion and now the normal potion turns into a splash potion and the splash potions you can just throw by right clicking like this and then if you hit yourself with it you get

The effect if you hit yourself on the head you’ll get the full effect of four minutes if you hit yourself at the feet it will actually be a little bit less than four minutes we can see this by first clearing our effects like this so we don’t have an effect we right

Click and we see that we only get weakness for 3 minutes and 31 seconds so i recommend just throwing it right at your head to get the full effect but we’re not done yet with this splash potion because you can also make the splash potion into a lingering potion

This can be done for any potion as well all you need to do is get some dragon’s breath from the end dragon by right clicking an empty bottle on the clouds you see when the edit dragon spits a fireball and if you put that on your splash potion it will turn the splash

Potion into a lingering potion which you once again will be able to throw just like the splash potion but it’ll have a slightly different effect so here it is turning into a lingering potion of weakness this also reduces the time so before we had four minutes of weakness

Now it’s reduced to just one minute of weakness and this happens with all the potions as well it just reduces the time you get the effect and that’s because you can throw it on the ground like this you will see particles appear all around

It and if i clear my effects you can see that once you walk into the cloudy area you will gain that effect for that amount of time but you also see that once i walk around a bit that effect will refresh once you’re still in that cloth but the cloud does dissipate quite

Quickly so you have to get there quite quick and so those are the splash and lingering potions and the potion of weakness so now we’ve had the poison weakness the thick potion and the mundane potion there’s only one other option to put in your brewing stand at

Start and that is a piece of netherwart so let’s grab that and let’s put it in here now we will grab three potions because we want to show off all different types of potions so we put in a piece of netherward and whereas the glowstone got us a thick potion the

Redstone got a mundane potion then that award will give us an awkward potion which doesn’t sound great but it is actually the basis of pretty much any potion in the game except for the portion of weakness and alright there we go our water bottles turned into three

Awkward potions again with no effect but this time we can add other types of items to actually make them into the various different types of potions the first of which is the potion of swiftness which you get by adding a piece of sugar to your awkward potions

This will be a potion of swiftness 1 and as we’ll see shortly the effect will last for 3 minutes there we go 3 minutes of speed 1 from a portion of swiftness and when you apply this to our player we will get a 20 speed increase and so now

There are three different options you can choose between for our normal swiftness potions of course you can turn them into splash portions of swiftness and at lingering potions of swiftness but there’s three other options so as i mentioned earlier if you add redstone dust to your potions it increases the

Length in this case it will increase length of poison swiftness from 3 minutes to 8 minutes as we can see happening here 3 minutes to 8 minutes but here it also becomes possible to add a piece of glowstone dust to our swiftness potion and adding glowstone to potions will always increase their level

This means it will become in this case a speed 2 instead of speed 1 the effect you get when you drink the potion and so this happens for every single different type of potion it increases the level of the effect that is on the potion so here

We go we’ll see that our poison swiftness that gives us effect speed now becomes a pose of swiftness that gives us speed too however there is also a negative side to adding glowstone because this does mean that you reduce the time you get the effect for from

Three minutes in this case to one and a half minutes and so most of the time it does indeed half the time the effect lost if you add a piece of glowstone dust and then the third option you can use for both the regular and extended swiftness potions is to add a fermented

Spider eye and so as a female spider eye doesn’t sound that tasty it usually makes your potions a bad type of potion although there is one exception to that which we’ll get to later on in this video but here we can see that if we add a fermented spider to our swiftness

Potion it turns into a portion of slowness which gives a slowness for 4 minutes instead of the 8 minutes from before and so if we add a fermented spider eye to our regular potion of swiftness we get a potion of slowness that gives a slowness for one and a half minutes which reduces

Our speed by 15 as opposed to the increase of 20 we got from the swiftness potion and then again it’s also possible to add a piece of redstone to this regular point of slowness to get the extended portion of stone is at last for 4 minutes or you

Can add a piece of glowstone dust to the potion of slowness and instead of making it give you slowness 2 which you would expect since the regular one gives you slowness 1 it for some reason actually gives you a positive slowness that gives you slowness 4. so it’s quite unique in

That way that it actually increases level from one to four instead of from one to two however it also does decrease the time it lost significantly from one and a half minutes to just 20 seconds of slowness where reduces your speed by 60 percent but that’s it for both swiftness

And slowness although slowness will come back in a second but let’s move on to the second item we can add to our awkward potion which is a rabbit’s foot a rabbit’s foot is a rare drop you can get from killing a rabbit and if you add

It to our awkward potion as you might already expect since rabbits are good at jumping yes this will give us the potion of leaping which will give you jump boost 1 4 3 minutes and there we go post leaping jump boost for 3 minutes now rather surprisingly adding a fermented

Spider ride to a potion of leaping also gives you a potion of slowness so both the regular potion swiftness and the regular potion of leaping converts into a potion of slowness when a fermented spider eye is added there we go potion of slowness i assume this is just the

Case because there is no poison effect that opposes leaping and so it just went with slowness and so it’s also possible to increase the length of the portion of leaping by again adding a piece of redstone dust this increases the time from 3 minutes to once again 8 minutes

And again you can also add another fermented spider eye to make the extended potion of slowness which instead of lasting for one and a half minutes lasts for four minutes and that’s the same process as we saw for the potion of swiftness for the potion of leaping and finally it is also

Possible to add a piece of glovestone dust to the potion of leaping to get a potion leaping that will give you jump boost 2 instead of jump boost 1. so joan’s swarm will last for 3 minutes with his potion and similar to what happened with the swiftness potions jumboost 2 will last

For one and a half minutes and there it is it’s done jumbos2 for one and a half minutes and you cannot convert this potion into a slowness potion that’s only possible with the extended one not with the upgraded one alright let’s move on to the third item you can add to the

Awkward potion which is actually blaze powder and so that means you have blaze powder in both this slot and also in this slot over here now adding blaze powder to our awkward potions will give us potions of strength which will of course increase our attack damage so the

Regular strength potion we give you three minutes of the strength effect which gives you plus three attack damage adding redstone dust will increase this 3 minutes to 8 minutes as we’ve seen a couple of times before already and adding a piece of glowstone dust will increase the effect from strength 1 to

Strength 2. so it is only possible to add glowstone dust to a potion that has not gotten redstone dust yet and also the other way around you cannot add redstone dust after already adding glowstone dust so let’s grab a regular potion of strength and then add some

Glowstone dust there we go and we’ll see it changes from the effect of strength to the effect of strength 2 which lasts for 1.5 minutes instead of 3 minutes but will increase your attack damage by 6 hp alright then the fourth option to add to an awkward potion is the glistening

Melon slice or glistening melon which you get by surrounding a normal melon slice with gold nuggets and if you add this to awkward potions you will get potions of healing now for potions of healing it is not possible to add redstone dust to increase the length because it gives you instant health it

Doesn’t give you a push effect for a longer period of time it just gives you two hearts instantly if you drink it it is however possible to add a piece of glowstone to increase the level of instant health from instant health 1 to instant health 2 which gives you 4

Hearts instead of just 2 and then it’s also possible for both of these so both the healing potion and the healing potion with instant health 2 you can add a fermented spider eye to both of them you can also do this at the same time if you want and adding a fermented spider

Eye to potions of healing as you might expect makes them potions of harming so we’ll see that happening here they become portions of harming the regular one becomes a portion of harming with instant damage and it won’t have instant health too becomes instant damage too now the regular instant damage or a

Regular potion of harming will deal 3 hearts of damage if you drink it and the potion of harmony that he has instant damage to will do 6 hearts of damage to the drain kit of course drinking it doesn’t make much sense so i would recommend making these into either

Splash or lingering potions to throw at other players next you can also add a regular spider eye to your awkward potions and so whereas adding a fermented spider eye to a water bottle gave you the potion of weakness adding a regular spider ride to awkward potions will give you potions of poison here

They are so these give the player the poison potion effect for 45 seconds adding redstone dust increases this 45 seconds to one and a half minutes and adding a piece of glowstone dust will change the given potion effect from a regular poison for 45 seconds to

Poison 2 for 21 seconds and so here for some reason the time isn’t exactly half because that would have been 22 and a half seconds instead of 21 and then once again you can add the fermented spider eye to these potions so both the regular poison potion and the poison potion with

Poison 2 you can add a fermented spider eye to both and this will not give you a new potion it will once again give you the potions of harming so if you for some reason don’t have glistening melons but you do have a lot of spider eyes

This is the way to get the potions of harming instead of going through the potions of healing route so we see that our potions of poison become potions of harming with a regular poison potion becomes the regular potion of farming and the upgraded potion of poison becomes the upgraded potion of harming

Then we’ll move on to the gauss steer so if you add a gauss there to your awkward potions it will give you the opposite of a potion of poison it will give you a potion of regeneration there it is however the weird thing here is that you can’t add a fermented

Spiderite to the potion of regeneration to get the potion of poison which is what you would expect since it’s the exact opposite where the regeneration increases your health and the poison decreases your health at a constant rate i’m not sure why this is not in the game

But it just isn’t it is ever possible to increase his 45 seconds again to one and a half minutes by adding a piece of redstone dust as we see happening right here and adding some glowstone dust to the regular potion of regeneration which just gives the regular regeneration

Effect which gives you a half heart every 2.5 seconds and it’s lasts for 45 seconds it turns into a potion of regeneration that gives you regeneration 2 which gives you a half a heart every 1.2 seconds for 22 total seconds and this actually means that the regular potion of regeneration in total gives

You 9 hearts whereas the potion of regeneration gives you regeneration 2 actually gives you a little bit more than 9 hearts but mostly the speed is the thing that is increased with regeneration 2. then we have magma cream which you get by combining a slime ball

With blaze powder and this will give us a very useful potion it is the potion of fire resistance which grants you fire resistance for three minutes which makes it so you can for example swim in lava and walk through fire and since it already completely indicates any fire

Damage there is no way to increase the level of fire resistance only the length can be increased from the regular 3 minutes to 8 minutes using a piece of redstone dust then after fire of course comes water adding a puffer fish to your awkward potions will give you potions of

Water breathing which instead of making you invulnerable to fire damage will make you invulnerable to drowning damage it makes it so you can’t drown under water and so you get water breathing for three minutes using the regular portion of water breathing you can’t increase the level since you can’t drown anyway

With these potions but you can increase length again from three minutes to eight minutes using a piece of redstone dust similar to the potion of fire resistance the next item is the golden carrot and of course there’s the myth that eating carrots will increase your vision or

Sight and so if you add a golden carrot to your awkward potions this will give you potions of night vision the regular potion will give you three minutes of night vision and again like with almost all other potions you can increase this from 3 minutes to 8 minutes using a

Piece of redstone dust as we can see right there and again it is possible to afterwards add a fermented spider eye to both these night vision potions and unlike the previous times where adding a fermented spider eye made the poison effect a negative one with red instead

Of blue text in the item information this for some reason doesn’t happen with the night vision potion since if we add the fermented spider right to the night vision potion we get a positive effect and indeed we see that it doesn’t become red here the text and we get potions of

Invisibility both the regular one for three minutes from the regular potion of night vision and the one for eight minutes from the extended potion of night vision again i’m not sure why the fermented spider eye here creates a positive instead of a negative effect that’s just how it is and of course it’s

Also possible to increase this length afterwards by adding a piece of redstone dust to the poison with visibility that’s just three minutes so first adding fermented spider eye and then adding redstone dust can be switched around that truly does not really matter the next portion we’re gonna brew is

Quite a special one because it requires a turtle shell and you make a turtle shell using five scutes from turtles that grow up and put them in a crafting table like a helmet shape you can of course wear the turtle shell as a helmet to get some underwater bonus effects but

If you put them into a brewing stand with some awkward potions on the bottom you will get the potion of the turtle master which instead of giving you just one effect will give you two effects it gives you both resistance 3 for 20 seconds but also slowness 4 for 20

Seconds so it basically makes you a sort of statue although you can still jump of course then you can add a piece of redstone dust to increase the times of both of the effects here from 20 seconds to 40 seconds and you can also add a piece of glowstone dust to increase the

Level of the resistance and slowness effects you will get and something special happens here because we can see both effects are lasting for 20 seconds but if we upgrade it there we go it does not reduce the time of the effect it increases the slowness level from level

4 to level 6 and increases the resistance level from level 3 to level 4 and now when you drink this your speed will be decreased by 90 percent which is quite significant but you will get resistance 4 which basically means you can’t take any damage alright and then

The final item we can add to our awkward potions is the phantom membrane which is an item that is dropped by the phantom that appears after you don’t sleep for a couple of days and adding the phantom membrane will turn our awkward potions into potions of slow falling which gives

You the slow falling effect for one and a half minutes which makes you fall just like a chicken does now it is not possible to make this into slow falling too so you might fall slower or anything like that it is only possible to extend the length from one and a half minutes
