Minecraft 3B SMP episode 6: Redstone storage system setup.

If i do say so myself but there is one small issue under the hill is still a gigantic hole now the reason i mentioned that is because over here is a stack of shulker boxes and this is pretty much everything i own and honestly speaking that’s not quite

Good enough so what i want to do in this episode is i’d like to build a storage system that basically sorts everything automatically and also has a shulker box feature now over here is a large platform that i’ve basically assigned for exactly that so this entire area is going to be

Converted into a storage system and what i’d like to do in this episode is i’d like to show you sort of exactly how i build these things and how i basically design around them to try and make them look good emphasis on the word try now i really can’t overstate the importance of

Forethought and planning on a project like this especially if you have one build that influences another one so in here i want to turn this whole area into a really big cave but the storage system is actually going to influence the design of the cave in

This area so what i want to do is i want to choose my block palette and design for what uh basically would be inside the cave so what i’ve decided to do is take a lot of inspiration from tango tech’s decked out from season six herbert craft so step one research

This right here again is where you put in your uh what’s gonna be a dungeon key i’m gonna move away i think step two planning welcome to my most recent testing world uh i think we’re all familiar with this style of sorter here uh this is our sorting hopper so

You get whatever item you want sorted here make sure there’s 22 items all told in there the comparator reads that and powers this redstone over here as soon as one more item goes into that hopper that that signal goes to two redstone dust which powers this repeater down here

Which turns off the torch and unlocks this hopper allowing one item through after that the entire system locks back up again and you’re good to go now this particular sorter will actually be at the heart of my storage system but i do actually have three different types of

Storage that i want to use the first will be bulk storage for things like stone and building items anything that i’ve i’m going to require lots and lots of the second will be anything you end up with about a chest’s worth which i’m going to use primarily this particular style

And the third will be for items you generally end up with like maybe a couple of stacks at the most any anything that won’t require a full chest okay so here is the design for the bulk storage i’ll obviously be using a different block pallet for this but the

Idea remains the same here is the access chest i filled that up with dirt and the redstone lamps tell you approximately how much is actually in the system so if we go around the back we’ve got all of these chests that can be filled up each chest has a corresponding

Comparator which goes into a block next to a redstone lamp and if as in if there’s anything in that chest the redstone lamp will light up down the bottom here we have this comparator here going into the block directly behind the lamp and i’ve actually sort of brought the

Brought the hoppers around to prevent this block here from locking any of them up so items can flow freely through this without without any of the hoppers getting locked because if i just have it run directly behind there that block there will actually lock the hopper next to it

Now i believe that yeah this these items are sort of filtering through the system so if i go into here and fill this one up absolutely nothing will happen because i forgot to put in these hoppers here now these hoppers will let everything just flow down through the system here

We go so now that is filtering down into here so items are all filtering through and now we should have three lights lit up perfect so that is going to be my bulk storage and this solid block of redstone here is a designed by tangotek from 2017. i’ll link the video in the

Description below but it’s still a very um useful piece of equipment um so for things like redstone components i’m not going to need a solid chest of comparators but all i have to do is just line up the things i want in here like so

And as long as when i take stuff out i’ll leave one behind it should work just fine and that’s going to be my chosen design for these small item sorters as for the input i’ve got this little circuit here it is ultra simple um input chest and i’m using this little chest down

Here for my tests uh put i could put the shocker box in there the comparator sees if there’s anything in the shelter box repeater makes the signal stronger takes it up here to this um falling edge pulse um dearly here which basically activates the piston once the once the shulker box is empty

So i’ve got this little shot i’ve got the shulker box here with half a stack of redstone dust in it so i just put that in there you can see the whole thing activate and as soon as the shulker box is empty there we go breaks the shulker box there’s the half

Stack of redstone and there’s the shulker box and that can go off into storage as well all right so now that i’ve got my storage solutions ignore the one in the middle that’s a failed test so this one that one this one and that one i now know the

Footprint size and i can start planning out my storage area and i’ve just finished editing that section and a falling edge pulse boy my my ability to describe redstone circuitry is absolutely astounding i think tango could describe it much better than i ever could so go over to

His video and check it out it’s a really good storage system now that i’ve got my module sorted i’ve gone and dropped down a floor i do know i want uh nether brick as the floor so i’ve put nether brick slabs down and i’ve also marked out

Where the modules are going so this is going to be the loader this is going to be a line of the regular uh item sorters as well as there and over there they’re going to be all lines of items of regular items orders uh so i’m all

Told i think i’m going to get about 25 item sorters in there these squares here are going to be the uh the storage silos and over here is going to be five of those um the small items orders so i can basically have them as high as i

Want the thing is completely tileable up as are the silos the only thing is these guys i think are three tall and i could probably get two of them one on top of the other but i’m going to see i’m going to see how many of these i can get in and still

Actually reach the reach the chests but if i want i can always put a second floor on this so there’s plenty of room upwards so this may be a multi-storey um storage chamber but next comes everyone’s favorite part resource gathering And now comes the fun bit building it all Oh Do So [Applause] [Applause] And all done now i actually built this on a twitch live stream so if you uh if you’re on twitch go on over to my channel and join me i stream basically whatever i feel like mostly building games so things like minecraft uh satisfactory space engineers factorio

That kind of thing i’ve actually given it a test and it all works so what basically what you do you put your items either in this chest or put your shulker box here and it all drains out this this water stream over here uh takes it all up to the bulk storage

So i’ve got 10 box storage units here um so it runs down that line and then it comes back up this line here where it reenters the water stream up there and drops down into these storage chests here now these are connected so whatever’s in this one is in the one

Above it and so on and so forth i’ve actually got 25 of these units and the rest of them are over there and it basically runs through those systems there and then it comes into here which is my which is my small storage system so i’ve actually dumped like a random chest

Uh shoulder box in and this is where it all ended up so all i have to do is basically assign slots to everything um and it’ll basically go through and place everything in its sort assigned position anything that doesn’t get sorted will end up down in this hopper here and

I still need to put an overflow on so basically just a chest or a hopper a chest or a shocker box or something along those lines that’ll accept anything that doesn’t get sorted that way i know it either slipped it missed something or it an item just doesn’t have a slot

Aside for it yet okay so after additional testing i’ve actually discovered a couple of small issues with this storage system firstly all of this stuff so everything up to this point so these modules these modules here uh all of this stuff and all of the modules on

This side they all basically run at hopper speed but these four over here now i know i said i i know i said i was going to get five in here but unfortunately i had to put a gap between them so i’ve only got four so these four

Modules here they actually run at four ticks so because they’re the last thing that gets sorted and everything else runs at upper speed if i’m not careful with how much i actually put into the system this entire line can back up all the way to here

All the way to here so i actually discovered that i was um i was getting a build up of of items right here that was coming out of um was coming out of here so things were going in here not getting sorted because there’s no place for them

So they were coming in here and this entire line of hoppers this whole line that i’m walking up here all the way down into the depths and up to this first dropper dropper stack was completely backed up by items the whole thing now i don’t actually have anything uh

Assigned to any of these chests except for the first few so i’ve got so i’ve got tough in the first one i’ve got assault in the second one deep slate in the third and that’s it the rest of the chests are unsorted now when i assign these that might resolve a

Bit a lot of the issues but i’ve basically gone through and sorted everything so all of the shulker boxes out the front they’ve all been sorted and i’ve i’ve even gone through and pulled it all out that’s what this group of shulker boxes are this is a completely sorted

Set of shocker boxes so in here i’ve got my melons here i’ve got my pumpkins over here is um that’s never blocks so everything that comes out of the nether goes is in here here is nether bricks uh these are unstackables that’s another issue i’ll get to in a second

But now i can go through and i can place all of these items into these chests and basically group them by by item type and i can use the amounts so let’s say the the melons for example i’ve got a lot of melons so if i was going to keep melons in this

In this system and actually i’m not going to keep my melons and pumpkins in here i’m going to i’m going to keep them somewhere else then i would assign them one of these chests because that would mean that they’ve got i’ve got a lot of them so they require

One of these chests if i’ve got very few of them then they would go into one of these chests but that is the other issue the unstackables so along with along with the shulker boxes and all the unstackable items i’m going to have to work out what to do with them because i

Don’t want to keep them in in these chests and i’m not too sure exactly how to how to sort them into an appropriate chest as for the shulker boxes this this is actually my stack of empties so from all the items that i’ve basically compressed down this is what i’ve got left over

But i do actually want to sort out my shulker boxes so i’m going to have to come up with an additional module maybe to go over here that actually stores the shulker boxes so after everything has been sorted the shulker boxes come over here get go into their own little module and maybe

Unstackables end up in another module over here but that’s going to prevent me from actually decorating all of this so what i’m going to do is i’m going to i’m going to come up with a couple of modules for shocker box and unstackable sorting and i’m also going to assign all of this

Stuff to their appropriate chests and hopefully have everything every slot assigned to an item and i’ll do the decoration in the next episode but mouse actually asks me over to his base for a sec to give him a hand with a little quick something all right follow me

Here no i didn’t think he was on the server no not quite all right so this is your um string farm or my string farm stand back they do hit you yes they do hit you pretty good um my issue that i’m having is i need either you or me

To climb in here and fix some of these um trapdoors actually probably better if i do okay so in the meantime will i stand guard and take out any spiders that come yeah so i’ve basically got all these doors out actually i’m gonna go grab some glass so i can see them

Guys how you doing ouch what did you what did i oh no no no no dang it crap you blocked me in here with them i never do deserve that you killed you killed many of his brethren ow he doesn’t need to know that stop hurting me yeah they’re they’re really annoying

Okay i think the spawner should be more or less deactivated or left What my assurances are like i i know you’re mob proofing it doesn’t work well yeah when you try to mod proof an entire biome it tends to get a little bit uh on the complex side a little bit i almost died like 10 times i can’t

Count how many times almost died in that in your base okay yeah it keeps things interesting oh yeah interesting is not the right word i believe there we go hopefully that should be working perfect so now we can access the spiders um the spiders will die on the uh

On the trapdoors that way the uh xp should roll straight out hopefully if they try to climb they’ll drown spotters drown yeah yep they do okay coming up come spiders here come the spy forget one yep yeah see he goes up there and eventually he’ll drown somebody

You’re all going to just go there okay well you do you right they’re all just going to climb up there all right well plan number two i’ll go turn it ouch how did you hit me through a full block well what you can do is you can put your uh your killing

Chamber up there at least you at least you guaran at least guaranteed to guarantee to get like 100 of the spiders use their climbing nature against them i mean that is a perfect point good and it doesn’t look like they’re doing too much drowning up there yeah i see that i could just

Look around you could just break a block and kill us all yeah go for it oh three and that one over there coming out how about the whole hop out of the there all right so now i can get here perfect all right i’ll see you later i catch it

With the improvements to my storage system planned and underway and mouse’s string farm up and running so hopefully now i can actually get rid of all of the snow i’m on my hill uh unfortunately that’s all the time i have this episode so thank you so much for joining me
