Hi! We’re Nevas Buildings. We’re a small build team from the Netherlands. We build together to let people experience historical worlds through Minecraft. Hey! I’m trying to record something here. Okay. One of our favorite builds is the city of Badar, the capital of the medieval world we’re building at the moment. In this video, we’re gonna build a house in the same style as the city, share our best tips, and show you how to make smoke come up the chimneys. But first, let’s take a look downtown. When we build a city like this, we really want to make sure That we have all the necessities covered to make the city feel realistic and lived-in. Here we have the stables. This is where the travelers and the tourists would leave their horses to visit the tavern. We have a town hall, a library, and a fletching shop here. The sewer system, which leads to the river, graveyards, vineyard, castle, and all sorts of other things. Oh… Yeah. That’s one of them. This is the main square. Here used to be a Roman temple, but it’s completely broken down now. And they have placed a church on the ruins. No matter how small or big we build, we always follow the same steps: First research and planning, then the foundations, building walls and roofs, and finally the details, like texturing the build. Now we’re gonna build a house in the same style we used in the city: A house for the landowner here at the edge of town. Even when we build in a smaller scale like this, we follow the same steps. So in this specific part of the world, we want to build in a Byzantine, Southern European style in the medieval era. And then with some Roman influence. Okay. We start by laying down the groundwork. At this stage, you need to make some decisions, like: What shape should the foundation have? Do you want an inner garden? How high should the house be? It looks more natural to have a varied shape, and not to make it too blocky. We started playing together, building some small buildings in a survival world. But as we played more, we wanted to make bigger builds. We felt limited in survival to do that. So we started a creative server, and in one afternoon, we had built a whole church. We posted it to YouTube and it all went from there. We became more and more excited and more dedicated, and we’re really happy to see how it has evolved over time to what it is now. When we’re building a roof like this, we immediately notice This really harsh line which separates the roofs and the wall here. Something you could do to break up that line is to add some stairs, which makes it more interesting to look at. It would be normal to see some part of the building that supports this overhang, Which is really important to make it feel realistic, lived-in, and logical. Something people really need in these times is a fireplace. You need to warm the place somehow, and that could be easily done with some stone bricks. This would create the smoke coming up, And then it looks great if the chimney extends a bit outside of the building and then moves back in and then extends out here. A trick you can do for having smoke coming out of the top: You could have a campfire on there and surround it with trap doors, Which would hide the fact that it’s actually a campfire. This creates the chimney effect. Then we’ll start texturing the build, because it’s very essential to our style. We really want to make it look detailed and weathered and have some kind of indication that it’s been there for a long time. It’s not just something that was spawned in a world somewhere – it has been used and was really built by people. You could really easily do this with a stair. So place a stair either this way or that way. It creates the effect of having small bricks that maybe have fallen down or broken, which I find really cool. Something to do as well is to integrate the nature with the build. We need to attach the roads to the rest of the build. This texture consists of gravel and the sides of stone. We just extend this to the gate. Normally, plants would grow next to the build – some flowers or some leaves. This makes it feel more at home in its environment. Just grab some bone meal and have some tall grass and other things at the edge. So that’s how we normally build the buildings we make. Now the landowner also has a place to live outside of the cramped city. You can apply this to any other bigger builds you want to.
