The end is a mysterious Place desolate and don’t forget the endless void constantly beneath your feet but how did such a world come to be and how could I have such a weird history there is a lot to unravel when it comes to the end from being inspired by a floating World home To terrifying creatures to a last minute change one month before Minecraft’s official release date when exploring such a topic one may be led down a rabbit hole where they will find themselves asking one question is the end Dimension even real well join me as we explore the weird and perhaps Unsettling history of Minecraft’s and dimensions we’ll start Where it All Began in the beginning January 6 2010 Mojang releases a map type simply called floating the map type will generate floating islands which were populated with terrain based on the selected map theme map theme was a feature in In-depth versions of the game that allowed players to choose a theme that would dictate certain aspects of their world these included normal hell with aspects such as Lava Lakes and two other themes anyway the floating map type would disappear in the info version of the game however it seemed the idea of a Floating world had not yet left the mind of the Mojang developers and about one and a half years later on May 19 2011 Notch would tweet several pictures of a new floating world in Minecraft the Sky Dimension this would appear visually to be very similar to the Overworld and Featured multiple large floating islands the dimension was partially intended to be the opposite of the nether Heaven if you will and sat above the clouds Notch would intend on completing the Sky Dimension confirming it in a tweet however this is something that Minecraft has never came to see but why was this And how does the Sky Dimension relate to the end Mojang developers identified one major issue with the Sky Dimension an extreme breakdown in performance this was due to the top down lining from the Sun and the way the game calculated light rays Mojang originally planned to release the Sky Dimension in the Upcoming Adventure update also known as Minecraft Beta 1.8 and 1.0 respectively however they could not fix the performance issue not wanting to disappoint players they removed the sun giving the dimension an equal lighting level thus fixing the problem with performance but that presented yet another issue how could you have a Sky Dimension without the sun Wednesday July 27 2011 a now deleted image is posted on the Minecraft subreddit of what we can only assume was the first iteration of the Enderman a user leaves a comment Slenderman question mark to which Notch replies that’s it I’m officially naming them Enderman simply removing the first Two letters from the word Slenderman we can’t say for certain but this user’s comment could have very well inspired the name for Minecraft’s next Dimension Enderman would be introduced to the game but the public were unaware of the end Dimension at the time Enderman simply appeared as another mob they initially Had green eyes emitted a black smoke and could pick up any full block and so while players defended themselves from Enderman Mojang would be busy preparing a new dimension which could not have the sun due to Performance issues of the Sky Dimension Notch would first reference The end dimension in a joke three days later some players have petitioned for Enderman to be renamed farlanders to which not replied he was more likely to change the name of the farlands to the end October 6 2011 Notch pose a weird message on Twitter that at first glance Appears to be gibberish it read the following a Reddit user would discover that this was actually an encrypted message and using rot 13 a letter encryption algorithm would decode the message Ender dragons to which Notch would confirm the decryption the puzzle was now coming together and with Enderman and Ender dragons in our Revealed inquisitive players suspected something more than just two new Mobs then on October 7th one day later Notch would reveal the first ever image of the end as we know it the picture depicted the end Island almost indistinguishable from the end Island we have today and The Ender Dragon which seemed to be in development at the time and with that the end Dimension was first released in beta 1.9 pre-release 4. ready for the official release of Minecraft upon its release there was a very out of place looking block used in the end portal Room this block actually gives us more clues that the end was indeed originally the Sky Dimension the block was known as an End Portal block but its blue transparent appearance hinted that it had to be designed for something else a Sky Dimension perhaps very soon this portal block would be replaced by end Portal frames and the end Dimension given a purple Hue now this leads me to a very unsettling Theory but first I want to talk about what actually inspired the end imagine a Reddit user pointed out something about the Yen that I had never seen before a striking similarity between it and another world That seemed too similar to be a coincidence in the game Half-Life there is a dimension called Zen a border World a plane of existence that connects two or more Dimensions Zen appears as a dimly lit world with a purplish Hue made up of floating islands above an endless Void sound familiar the island spare a striking resemblance to n stone with the same yellowish Hue and coral-like texture exactly how Jeb described described in stone to be Zen is inhabited by vortegons alien creatures that have the ability to teleport there even exists a boss known as nylan which To kill you must first destroy crystals to stop it from healing now all of this sounds very familiar but the question is could this actually be what inspired the end well it’s not only possible but likely Notch was a fan of valve games even being awarded his own hat in TF2 Known as Top Notch so it is very possible he also played Half-Life this question may remain open-ended for a while but there are so many similarities that it surely brings to light a compelling case now here’s where the story of the end gets even weirder and perhaps slightly unsettling take a look At this image a quick observation will tell you that you’re looking at a Minecraft Overworld but something weird has happened to the colors well what you’re actually seeing is the Minecraft World Through The Eyes of an Enderman that’s right these mysterious beings don’t see the world like you and I but Rather a version of the world where all colors are inverted almost as if the Overworld was merely another Realm of the end and appeared like some sort of dream world okay now look at this image here we have what appears to be a ground made of cobblestone covered with Enderman you’ve likely figured it out by now but what you’re looking at is actually the end Dimension Through The Eyes of an Enderman it would appear that n stone is actually just an inverted Cobblestone texture but what does this all mean well this leads us to the final unsettling theory about Minecraft’s and Dimension so enstone is merely an inverted Cobblestone texture but maybe there’s more to this than meets the eye or the elements are in this case you see when the Sky Dimension was first introduced Notch said that it would probably be a dream world this meant that you would have a certain chance of Being dragged into the dream every time you slept through the night later you would gain the ability to access the dream world on purpose likely meaning that the player would lose a dream in a sense of course the Sky Dimension would end up being replaced with the end but Ask yourself the question how would you describe the end a dimly lit sky glowing with a purple Hue an endless void one step away and a mythical dragon that seems unworldly you wouldn’t be wrong to assume these characteristics point to some kind of dream world in our dreams We see things that seem just a bit different out of place unable to put our finger on them the End Stone texture represents an odd parallel to the conscious World our eyes see every day even when viewed Through The Eyes of an Enderman it doesn’t appear exactly as Cobblestone due to its slight tint and what does an Enderman see when it Ventures to a world parallel to its own a sort of dream world so could it be that the end is really the dream world that the Sky Dimension was intended to be it certainly is strange that n Stone Has the texture that it does I personally think of it as some porous coral-like substance naturally occurring from unseen spores that float in the haze of the night this is coming from a lead developer who created the very end Dimension itself now maybe it was the Case that Mojang simply ran out of time due to needing to scrap the Sky Dimension and needing an End Stone texture fast but I can’t imagine taking a long time to create one texture especially considering they had still over a month until the end was officially released and they still Designed end portals in time arguably one of the more detailed Textures in the game the end would sit dormant largely unchanged for a period of five years that was until 2016 when Java Edition 1.9 was released massively overhauling the end we would see the addition of end Crystals on the main island as well as the end islands and ncidious and interestingly all of these additions stick with our dream world theory firstly the end Islands themselves are very reminiscent of the original Sky Dimension which was intended to be a dream world and of course there is now a Very odd plant chorus fruit very often in dreams we jump from one place to another not knowing how we got there our memory is fuzzy hazy chorus fruit teleports the player randomly upon consumption and could leave you with this feeling of disorientation and don’t forget about the floating ships located In end cities a site that one would surely only see in a dream and when we finally decide to leave this world shrouded in a permanent purple Twilight we awake in our bed now merging is even referred to the end as a nightmare themselves and in a video Titled the end 10 things you probably didn’t know they referenced the fact that they removed the Sun from the Sky Dimension and that it would help you sleep better and so while the true intent of this weird and unsettling world may remain a mystery I think there is an extremely compelling case to Suggest that the end is indeed the dream world that Notch originally intended the end is certainly a weird place and definitely the most mysterious in the Minecraft Universe there is a lot we may never know in trying to find answers maybe as futile was peering into its Endless void but it’s also a very interesting place and I would say the most intriguing place that our Minecraft characters might ever set foot on like the moon or a parallel universe or perhaps a world that exists only in one’s mind there is a lot we don’t know So as our crops grow the sun sets and the Minecraft days go by we can only imagine what Mysteries of the end might unravel when we turn out the lights thank you for watching this video I hope you found it entertaining and if you’re new maybe hit that subscribe button I’ll See you in the next one take care foreign Video
