Hello everyone my name is Pixar IFS and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide hope you guys are having a good day today we’re starting off our site over the house that we built out here to start off Old Town in the last episode I’ve been adding a couple of details Here and there a little bit of mossy cobble under the water just to kind of complete that water logs algae look and a little bit some pieces around the outside you might know so used a couple of slime blocks around here we might actually use slime as more of a detail Block elsewhere in the swamp at some point but I’ve decided that I’m gonna do something quite similar to what I did in a jungle lake that I built in decidedly vanilla Season 4 where there’s gonna be the surface level of leaves that kind of represents you know pond scum algae that Kind of stuff like pond life floating on top of the water and that can be a great way of decorating around the outside of these houses water and leaf blocks don’t necessarily mix they are one of the few blocks because of their transparent layers that still have the flowing water Texture around them like that and slime blocks kind of do that but only on the bottom side of them so as long as we keep the slime roughly on the surface we shouldn’t have too hard of a time with that but yeah I’ve decided that it’s Probably gonna be a decent theme to go with for the long term and to be honest I kind of like this place now I was having my doubts about it before when we were looking around before but I kind of I kind of liked the way this turned out It’s still very wooden there are still a few changes I would like to make to it but I don’t know if those changes are actually in Minecraft yet because there are some slabs and stairs and stuff coming in the next update that I feel like might make a good accent to the Roof might be able to line the roof in that kind of stuff maybe if we if we do a little bit more work with cobblestone we could do it now but I kind of want to see what this looks like with the new slabs and stairs stuff like andesite and diorite are Coming to the game in 1.14 as slabs and stairs and walls so maybe there’s a few touches we could add after that update rolls around so with that in mind and this being episode 99 and wanting to do something a little bit special I thought What we could do is make a copy of this world and open it in one of the in development snapshots for the upcoming update minecraft 1.14 eventually this world will be upgraded to 1.4 anyway but people have been asking me all along why I’m not playing in the Snapshots there are a few reasons for that really the main reason being that worlds in snapshots are not necessarily all that stable and the second being that some of the features that appear in snapshots are subject to change they could change at any time so me using Them in a tutorial series doesn’t really feel like it makes a whole lot of sense however for you guys at home for the folks who would like to take a look at the in development features of Minecraft before they come out and be able to give Feedback to mo yang on them as they kind of come out into these in development versions I thought it would be cool to take a look at how to open a snapshot world how to open your existing world in snapshots and maybe take a quick sneak peek at what founders Forge and the Surrounding area might look like once 1.14 actually comes out so we’re gonna save the world right in hell and then we’re going to go to this menu and we are going to make a backup now this is a very important thing to do if you want To open one of your existing worlds in in development snapshots because like I said they are a little bit dangerous to use as far as the safety of your world goes they can potentially have features that crash or corrupt worlds you do not want that stuff to happen so you want to Make sure you have a backup of your world if you plan on opening it in a snapshot so that you can revert back to the backup if you want to reload it in the most recent stable version of Minecraft so I’m gonna hit make backup now this is gonna take a moment because The survival guide’ world has got pretty big I think it’s about 700 megabytes on disk but that should be okay I’ve got enough space on the hard drive there we go 694 megabytes gosh that’s a big world at this point and it’s only getting bigger but now we should be safe to open The world in snapshots I can revert back to the backup when we go back to one point thirteen point two and I wanted to take a look at the snapshots now because then they the latest update to minecraft is basically feature complete at this point and they’re just working through a Lot of bug fixing then at once 1.14 comes around they might start releasing within a couple of months the next snapshots for the next update so I thought it would be good to get you guys a little bit of a crash course in how to open snapshots from the minecraft Launcher because it’s not immediately obvious the feature is a little bit hidden and it’s mainly hidden so that you guys don’t open worlds in end up getting corrupted and then losing all of your progress so we’re gonna quit minecraft I’m gonna go to the desktop and I will show you how to enable Snapshots in the minecraft Launcher okay here we are welcome back to the minecraft Launcher now you’ve seen me install Optifine using the launcher before so you know that our profiles are stored in here right now I only have two I have the latest release one the basic vanilla unmodified minecraft one point Thirteen point two and I have another one that just has an Optima install so that I can get that extra FPS boost the ability to use shaders the ability to have a zoom that kind of thing and the Optifine profile is the one I login most regularly with now in order to create Additional profiles what you can do is go to launch options here and from here you can add a new profile and choose whatever versions that you want from as old as alpha and beta versions of Minecraft so if you want to go back and see what minecraft you used to look like Back in the day and play some of those early versions play the original 1.0 release of minecraft or beta versions or anything like that then you can however you will not see any of these snapshot release versions here quite yet because what we actually need to do is cancel This and then toggle this on here where it says enable snapshots and it will tell you that snapshots are in development versions which are not guaranteed to be stable and may corrupt your world cannot stress this enough now with snapshots enabled you will see we have a latest snapshot profile that Has just been added to the launcher snapshot 19 w 11 B is the most recent one at the time of this recording and if I click on here I can make sure that my resolution is set to the max resolution for my monitor that I have the right JVM Arguments here so that we can add additional RAM if we want to and a dedicated Ram and stuff like that is something that I’m not going to explain here but you can look that up if you need to worry about that so basically everything is set up here for me already I’m pretty sure it just copies what you have set up for the most recent release so the one point thirteen point two profile just copies over the resolution and the arguments from there anyway let’s hit save let’s go back to the news tab where you can actually launch from And let’s go to latest snapshot there we go and it will ask you to download it first so it’s going to take a moment or two to download all of the files for that and then we’ll be able to launch minecraft in the to snapshot and he will immediately Notice that a few things are different forest arts we have a new splash screen here this is kind of illustrating what’s coming in this update the update to villages and there’s a pillager outpost in the background stuff like that it’s moving on from the update aquatic splash Screen and showing you a little bit about what’s coming soon and this will probably be the splash screen that we see when 1.14 comes out but as you can see in the bottom left-hand corner here is says minecraft at 19 w 11 B snapshot so we’re gonna hit single-player and We’re going to go to the Survival Guide world which as it indicates here was last opened in one point thirteen point two so yeah make sure you got to back up so I’m saying it’ll tell you it’ll remind you several times and if you corrupt your world at this point that’s That’s on you let’s open it up let’s say we know what we’re doing because I have a backup don’t worry about it it’s all good I know what I’m doing let’s look at the snapshot and it’s going to come up with a few things that are a little bit Different it has this lovely like loading animation now and it’s taking a while to load my world spawn just because there’s so much stuff built there already so here we are with the Minecraft Survival Guide world loaded up in the snapshot and you’ll immediately see some differences like the textures are completely different The latest snapshots have been using the beta versions of the textures readied for the full release hopefully when minecraft 1.14 actually launches so there’s gonna be a few things around here that look a little bit different you know the same but different with the textures but I think it’s gonna be fun To have a quick look around and then probably to go into creative mode and mess around with a few things because I don’t plan on keeping the world in snapshots from now on this is just a bit of a demonstration for you guys so you know exactly how to get into snapshots And we’re going to revert back to 1.13 until the next update actually officially launches I just thought it would be fun to give you guys a quick crash course in how to load up a snapshot and use it to take a look around your world now you can already See that the leaf textures and stuff are different which is actually really nice I’m really looking forward to having a variety of different leaf textures and there are some blocked choices that I might not have made originally like I feel like the spruce leaves now look a Little bit too much like they stand out inside these leaves but yeah the the oak leaves are such a dramatic improvement I really love them and one of the first really dramatic changes is going to be yeah over here at the ravine founders Forge simply because the lines are back in the glass Because we don’t have connected textures in this snapshot so yeah we have ourselves a very grid like ravine but it still doesn’t look too bad the glass texture has changed a little bit and it seems almost too dark to me now even though I think we can’t actually see Through the floor but let’s take a quick look at that from the air I wonder if maybe I would want to change that now that the different glass texture is in because that looks much darker and a little bit less foggy than it did in the earlier version so I don’t know maybe Once we eliminate the grid it’s gonna be less of a problem but that does look a lot darker than it did in 1.13 with the connected textures so yeah I don’t know maybe we’ll end up making changes to that in future either way it’s something That I plan to adapt to with a lot of these new textures so we will we’ll have to see how that all works out but the town center is still looking pretty cool we’ve got all of our shops the way they are and everything I still really like The bakery I think that’s pretty great I think that founders Forge is going to be the perfect place to try out some of the new blocks in the game especially stuff like lanterns so I’m actually gonna go into creative mode by doing game mode creative like so and we’re going to take A look at some of the new stuff that has been added with us there’s first art there’s like new flowers new decorative blocks stuff like that new walls what I am really looking forward to in this update is the new lighting blocks specifically lanterns and campfires I Think lanterns are going to be a perfect addition around founders forge they can be placed on the ground and they can be hung from blocks if they’re solid blocks I guess it’s not possible to hang them from the bottom of these stairs so we’d have to put them kind of insult places Like that or maybe I believe they can actually be hung from fences as well so if I put like a fence there and hung the lantern from it there we go that’s the kind of stuff I’m talking about this is such a perfect looking light for the City I really want to hang a bunch of these up everywhere it’s still kind of a shame to me that you can’t attach them to walls but really all you would need to do is hang a fence from the corner like that or just have them kind of Hanging at odd angles like that it just really adds some atmosphere and at night if we do timeset night like that oh yeah the glow would be real I yeah I’m really looking forward to these being in the game obviously I can play around with them right now but I don’t Want to have my world in snapshots permanently so I’m not gonna worry too much about that just having them balanced on fence posts though it’s gonna look very atmospheric in the window of our lighting shop and it’s really gonna give the place a little bit more of that steampunk Victorian Gaslight era kind of vibe it’s also gonna be great for modern garden builds as well you have those lanterns that you put outside in gardens just to kind of give the place a little bit of a cozy glow yes love it love it absolutely love it also the campfires are gonna be Fantastic too because not only do they give off light but they also give off a smoke effect so here right now it’s got a bit of an issue with the particles looking transparent and going behind the water texture over there but if you can imagine that on the roof of a house that Has a chimney let’s put one on the bakery for example like if we put that here obviously like it’s gonna stand out from the brickwork right now but we could fix that with a couple of small adjustments let’s grab some brick stairs there you go look at that an actual Smoking chimney on a build that doesn’t have to rely on fire particles or glass or cobwebs or anything like that that’s genuinely really really nice I think a lot of these will actually produce quite a hefty kind of performance issue in the world they tend to lag stuff out with The amount of particles it produces but just for the atmosphere of one or two builds in your town like that that’s absolutely beautiful by the way if you add a hay bale underneath this the smoke signals get really really large let me grab a hay bale from in here wherever They are there we go if you put that underneath the campfire then the smoke will travel super high it will actually go yeah there you go it doesn’t start to fade out until much further up in the air so you can actually use these for a Kind of skywriting there are a few folks on YouTube who have already given some thought to contraptions that can allow you to write stuff using these campfire smoke particles it’s it’s a lot of fun but for now I think that’s gonna it’s gonna be a really great addition to the Game and it’s gonna definitely give sort of outside campfire scenes and like fire pits out there is gonna it’s going to give them a really nice vibe like if you imagine we could just make a fire pit out here just using I don’t know some some nether brick Slabs around here and something like that if we pop down a campfire in there and then all you need to do oh there we go I think we’ve we’ve made an Enderman invisible all you need to do is set down a couple of logs around it like so for People to sit on maybe a couple of little I know cobblestone slabs around here little seats like that it immediately gives it a nice camping atmosphere having a little fire pit like that I think that’s gonna be great for you know outdoorsy builds and and building in the tiger and places like That I reckon that’s gonna be a lot of fun setting the time back today I do want to go over here and check on my villagers by the way wheat field looking golden and very cool I do want to check on my villagers let’s start with the Guys in the house because villages are actually undergoing a huge change in this forthcoming update and not only do they have different costumes but they now have a different set of trades now these are my legacy villagers so right now I don’t think these guys are actually going to change up their trades Unless there’s a change coming to that in a future update when they fix the bugs and they’re gonna kind of need a grandfather in some of the old villages or if they’re going to just completely refresh their trades I imagine that people might get a little bit mad if Their existing trades go away if they have that one mending villager they rely on kind of like Mendelssohn in the house so it’s gonna be an interesting time seeing whether or not those villagers actually do the same thing also the iron farm that’s up there is no longer going To work in this update because villages generate iron golems based on the amount of villager interactions and gossip rather than the amount of doors that are in a certain area and the villagers needing stuff so these guys are still breeding which is interesting I did not expect them to have quite this Much love but apparently they do so i don’t know i think i think village of breeding is no longer going to be a problem and these guys in the trading hall are still hanging out here despite their costumes oh these ones seem to have these ones seem to have the XP bar Though weird the guys in the house didn’t but maybe that’s because i fully unlocked all of their trades that would seem a little strange to me but at least for now they have a different system and yeah we will we will see exactly how this affects us when the Full 1.14 update comes around but even so it’s very exciting to see a few changes coming to villages we will take a look at them in future and see exactly how some of this stuff see that guy’s a master because we’ve done so much trading with him the cleric is the same Here as well yeah that’s it’s gotta be a really interesting time and I imagine that some of these existing villager trading halls will actually have to change that’s the main reason I haven’t really turned this into more of a formal building it’s because I wanted to make Sure that this would still be a viable design when 1.14 comes around chances are it’s not going to be so we need to prepare for that kind of stuff and I’m probably going to release a bunch of these villages or at least figure out some kind of way that we can keep them In a confined space but give them a little bit more freedom to do what they need to do I am very interested in the fact that all of these villages seem to have love hearts and yet there are no kids so maybe the behavior itself has been disabled they’re not able to produce Kids even though they’d all seem to be in that kind of love mode that social atmosphere is being created anyway and that’s also weird because if I open this up you will see that my main dude up here does not have any doors around him So that is kind of the the proof that we need it if we didn’t have the proof already that villager breeding and villager generation in general is no longer going to be dependent on doors instead I’m pretty sure village detection is meant to be based on the Amount of work stations and beds that are nearby and that’s about it so it’s gonna be interesting to see exactly how that ends up working I think for now the mechanic is still kind of in progress and some stuff still needs to be re-enabled one thing I’m really excited For in the forthcoming update is the options for decoration because there are a bunch of new building blocks like I said there are walls and slabs coming for a whole bunch of different blocks like having mossy cobblestone slabs you guys that’s an absolute revelation considering mossy cobblestone has been In the game for so long but was only available as a block before now it’s going to be the case that basically anything that identifies itself as a stone is still going to be able to have slabs and they’re going to be made using a stone cutter block as well the stone Cutter is in here under decoration blocks let’s take a quick look there you go folks who’ve been playing Minecraft Pocket Edition for a long time might recognize the stonecutter from that but it’s actually going to be possible to craft a single brick block into a single brick stairs so if you Want to do it that way the same for prismarine the same for any stone type block that can be cut into slabs and stairs you’re going to be able to do that in a stonecutter no more putting six blocks in and getting 4 full stairs out it’s Actually going to be possible to modify blocks that way and that’s a really neat change I really like that not to mention the fact that we’re going to be able to have blast furnaces that can replace these regular furnaces and smelt ores twice as fast so if we wanted to smelt Up a whole bunch of iron or gold or something like that in here then we could do it using blast furnaces that’s one of the things I want to do with the 5 blacksmiths a founders Forge is to have a couple that use furnaces for general smelting operations things like Glass and so forth but then have one that relies exclusively on using blast furnaces and can only process a certain type of material because with blast furnaces you can’t hurt from what I understand you can’t smelt like sand into glass using them they only really process ores and by the same token the Smoker which is in here this guy can only like cook food but will cook it twice as fast so there’s actually a whole lot you can do with them and in the meantime these blocks look fantastic in a blacksmith setting like just having a row of furnaces that look like this With the kind of grates in there and so forth I think that looks really really cool so I’m looking forward to seeing a few more of the blocks like this coming into play not only that but you can use them for a bit of decoration as well you Can have stuff like that stacked up in the corners and it really lends an atmosphere to the place there are also barrels which all barrels are gonna be so fantastic to have around the place even just adding like say a tripwire hook onto the side of this like That’s gonna make it look like the barrel has been tapped perfect so so good and not only that but you can still use them as storage in much the same way that you have a chest and they have an animated texture meaning the top actually disappears when you’re Interacting with the barrel is difficult to see in front of the GUI but if you look at it from a certain angle then you can see that happening it’s going to be so nice and I’m really looking forward to you decorating this place with a Of these just to kind of give this place a little bit of subtle storage and a few interesting textures the storage room here in the blacksmith’s guild could use a few of those up here on the shelves maybe stuff like that that’s gonna be fantastic and oh hanging lanterns from The ceiling in here would be great if we just have another slab there and where did the lantern go it just zipped back into my inventory there we go just like that just lighting a room with these things oh I’m so happy with those I think they’re gonna be really really Great but ya throwing a few more of these barrel blocks around the place is really going to give the place a a bit more variety speaking of the blacksmith’s guild we also have the incredible addition of the smithing table block which right now does not have any functionality and the Functionality for that block is not planned to hurt to come up until 1.15 at this point so it’s not coming until the next update but even so there is a crafting recipe for this in the game it interacts with villages and just being able to use that as like a floor tile in A dungeon or something would be so so cool imagine that mixed in with a few other blocks like that let’s put some coal ore and stuff nearby it just has this fantastic feel to it let’s maybe throw in some cold blocks around there as well there’s so many neat little Blocks that you can combine these with and use them for aesthetic purposes as well I think that’s gonna be a really great thing to add some character here and there there are a few other things I wanted to go over I mean stuff like the bells they’re gonna be really nice to Have and they actually make a clang noise when you right-click them those have more villager interaction functionality that needs to be added we have multicolored signs we have signs for all the different wood types now also a very exciting thing there are looms and grain stones all of this stuff Is coming in the next update and nothing is going to be super game-changing from what I can tell but they’re going to be little kind of quality of life updates like the loom being able to craft banners in a slightly different way the grindstone being able to repair tools and disenchant Enchanted tools to give you back a little bit of XP that’s gonna be a really quite interesting mechanic especially in the early game it’s definitely not gonna be the fastest XP grinding mechanic but it’s definitely gonna be useful for all of the stuff that you want to disenchant from mob Spawner z’ and stuff like that before you melted all down into gold and iron knock its lecterns are also going to be a really neat addition to the game not only does this block look fantastic and have like an angled surface which is almost unheard of As far as minecraft blocks go you can place books in it it has a redstone functionality look at this when I change the pages of this book it outputs a redstone signal that actually moves the trapdoor next to it and obviously I wouldn’t put the lectern out here in the First place but that’s a fascinating mechanic and it’s gonna be really interesting to see what people do with the redstone functionality of lecterns the amount of like shop ordering systems that you can make with a lectern and a well-written book is actually outstanding and I can’t wait to see People do some stuff with that if nothing else just having lectins as an aesthetic blog just having these in shops next to looms and all of the other blocks it’s going to be fantastic fun to see what we can do with the the decorative options in this forthcoming Update now let’s return to this house over here in the swamp and see if while we’re in creative mode here we can make a couple of adjustments to it that I going to make this place fit in a little bit better let’s maybe use some slabs of Stone for example like you can actually have stone slabs instead of the smooth stone now so actually having like a stone surface like this is possible which is quite fascinating I don’t know if that’s the kind of thing that I would go for as far as this roof goes but it’s Really nice to have the option now let’s scroll through here and get to I don’t know let’s go to some andesite or maybe red nether brick as an option we can play around with a couple of these and see what we like just having the option To make slabs out of andesite now is so strange and are throwing in some mossy cobblestone stairs to add to this roof really completes the swamp look I’m just havin having mossy stairs is somehow just the greatest thing at this point there we go just adding that streak of Moss down that side has somehow given this build even more of that swampy character and I think it’s come together really nicely I think we could probably still do a little bit more work on this archway over here but then framing that out in andesite is possible now we can Make a few little adjustments to it here and there break up that you know mess of wood that was up there in the first place it’s to be a really interesting time but as for this video I think we’re probably gonna wrap it up here and in the next Video we’ll be back into Minecraft 1.13 point two because like I said the snapshot is feature complete more or less but they’re still working out a lot of bugs villager behavior is still a little bit of a mess there’s so much stuff that still needs to be perfected before minecraft 1.14 actually releases So we’re not gonna see that for a little while and the Minecraft Survival Guide is going to continue in at one point thirteen point two not that not only that but it’s gonna be really difficult to do my intro with the camera angles reversed like this like they are right Now so that’s gonna be it for this episode of the Minecraft Survival guy thank you guys so much for watching this video I hope you guys will enjoy exploring the snapshots and you can always open up a creative test world if you don’t want to look around your Existing worlds but remember if you do that make backups that’s the one piece of advice you should take away from this video but guys thank you so much for the support over the last 99 episodes of the Minecraft Survival Guide if you like this video please do leave a like on it Don’t forget to subscribe if you want to see more I will see you tomorrow for episode 100 take care bye for now Video Information
