Hello everyone my name is Pixar riffs welcome back to a snapshot video this is Minecraft snapshot 22w46a for the most recent snapshot for both 1.19.3 and experimental features for Minecraft 1.20 I have done a snapshot video since we first took a look at some of the new features that were announced At Minecraft live and came to the game shortly afterwards namely the bamboo wood set and hanging signs and rafts and all of that good stuff camels as well I still love the camels so much but I decided to skip a couple of snapshots didn’t want to just flood you guys with Snapshot videos and there were fairly minor additions to the game but I wanted to come back this time because I am so happy with one of the changes in particular that they have made in this specific snapshot I’m going to be doing this in creative mode by the way because Some of the other stuff they’re doing in this snapshot is a little bit difficult to get hold of in survival requires a lot of commitment you need to get a creeper struck by lightning and that requires lightning rods or Trident and then you need to take it to the nether So that you can blow up a piglet to get a piglet in head yes there are piglet heads in the game now but we’ll cover that in just a second the thing I am here to talk to you about is the chiseled bookshelf also I love the fact that they’ve reordered the creative Inventory I’m still not super familiar with it but I found that chisel bookshelf pretty quickly I think we can say it’s going pretty well now in the ingredients tab we’re going to find some books the chiseled bookshelf is now I believe a perfect feature because previously you had to fill the chiseled Bookshelf by just right clicking on it and it always added the books in that specific order and you had to remove them in that specific order as well which you know worked out okay it was just like an ordinary container basically and the fact that it had a Comparator signal depending on what the last slot you interacted with was didn’t really make a whole lot of sense excuse me I’m trying to make a video but yeah before this it didn’t really make a whole lot of sense because the chiseled bookshelf actually looks at the slot you Last had interaction with so if you put a book in slot 6 and then took it out of slot six that wouldn’t have any effect on the Redstone signal coming out from this comparator so you really had to interact with the bookshelf twice for that to change but now things are Different because now they have finally allowed us to remove a book from the slots in the bookshelf just by looking at that specific slot and that works basically anywhere so now if we interact with slot 1 it changes the comparator signal to one even though the bookshelf Already has books in other slots it’s not based on capacity it’s based on the last slot you interacted with and since Slot 4 was the last one I took a book out of the comparator signal reads four this in my opinion has made chiseled bookshelves a perfect feature they are Doing exactly what you would expect them to do intuitively now and it’s so good being able to fill them up with certain orientations of books this is also going to be spectacular for decoration because previously if you wanted to decorate with a bunch of chiseled bookshelves They were all going to look like some sort of variant of this they were either going to be partially full or they were going to be completely full or completely empty but they always had to start left to right on the top row and then left to right on the bottom row so They would always look kind of samey but now if we remove books from any of these slots we can actually have a completely custom configuration of books so the shelves can look empty and full in different ways now we can end up with a combination lock where if you interact With a couple of slots down here it doesn’t do anything but if you interact with Slot 2 the door opens and I think that’s great another thing they’ve done with chiseled bookshelves is make them compatible with Hoppers so we’ll hop onto any of the side faces or the top Face will allow you to add in books automatically you’ll notice that this also affects the last slot interacted with so if I throw this book in here it interacts with Slot 2 filling that and that changes the comparator signal so there is option for Automation in here But you can also fill up certain slots manually to to make sure that the slot that gets interacted with ends up being a specific one and then blocking it from going any further by already having a book in slot 6. I think that’s going to be pretty valuable incidentally you can Also remove books from a chiseled bookshelf using a hopper which I think is going to be a pretty neat way of filtering out loot-like enchanted books from say an AFK fishing setup or something like that but having removed all of my hastily assembled and pretty bad door circuitry from the back of this Wall that also allows us to for example fill these barrels with enchanted books of a specific type and have those books automatically refill this would be really cool on a multiplayer server if you wanted to have a Bookshop we could for example label these Soul Speed 3 and Sweeping Edge 3 and then if we fill these barrels with books from villager trades you then end up with a bookshelf which automatically refills the slot that you take the book out of and did you notice there is a specific sound effect that even shows up in the Subtitles there for when you take an enchanted book out of a chiseled bookshelf compared to when you take out a normal book for the record books and books and quills both have the same sound effect they’ll be pitched slightly differently each time but it doesn’t show up any differently in the subtitles Which is a bit of a clue enchanted books have that enchanting sound to them so it’s easier to identify what you’re removing from a bookshelf when you take it out now some people may not consider these a perfect feature yet because they still want them to have interactions With enchantment tables and I think honestly they don’t need that right now the main reason being it kind of removes value from the existing bookshelves to have chiseled bookshelves just be a way better alternative so should a chisel bookshelf then have twice the impact on an enchantment table what happens if it Only has five books in it does that make a difference or not there are so many variables that would not be particularly intuitive for players to figure out there is also the issue of them being directional so right now if I place this chisel bookshelf that way I can’t place Any books inside or remove any books from this one you can’t fill up a chisel bookshelf by right clicking on it anywhere anymore it has to be interacting with the slots on the front which I think is the best mechanic for it to be intuitive but of course if you Place these a certain way you could fill up the Chisel bookshelf like this and then cover the front of it and you wouldn’t know whether this had books in it or not you could still add or remove them with a hopper and in future that could lead to some really interesting Mechanics for variable enchantment tables controlled by Redstone but you can already do that simply by pushing regular bookshelves around in short I don’t think the chiseled bookshelf really has a place in the enchanting setup unless they decide to completely overhaul the mechanics of enchanting in future which I would not be opposed to But for now chisel bookshelves have enough functionality of their own to be worthwhile as a feature and of course if you get creative with your bookshelf placement you can even include a couple of chiseled bookshelves in your enchanting setup throw in a couple of books like this and you’re not going to Affect the level 30 enchantment on the enchantment table because you’ve got all of the bookshelves around the outside so all that is to say I think chiseled bookshelves are pretty much a complete feature as of this snapshot a Mojo have done a pretty spectacular job of making Sure that this operates how you expect it to there have been some other really cool features in these snapshots for the creative mode inventory I’ll Briefly summarize a couple of my favorite things although I’m not going to go into every single detail here first of all the fact That you can now get monster spawners from this spawn eggs tab here in the creative inventory it also removes those from the miscellaneous tab where there were a lot of them and they were cluttering things I really like the fact that we can get monster spawners and They also don’t have a default mob already set in there you have to set it using a spawn egg which wasn’t the case before so whenever you set up a default spawner like this using the slash give command it would just spawn pigs as soon as you placed it down and apparently That one didn’t want to spawn polar bears in the desert not a big surprise really but throughout the creative inventory you’ll find that there are a few items missing that we normally have to use slash give to get like we used to with the monster spawners and those are Now going to be available to you if you go into options navigate to the controls menu switch on the operator items Tab and if you have admin permissions for your world basically if you have cheats enabled or if you’re the op on a multiplayer server now when you open the Creative tab you’ll notice that the operator utilities tab becomes available and that’s got all of the different levels of light Block it’s got structure void barriers and structure blocks along with Jigsaw blocks if you’re doing more complicated things with generating structures also has Minecarts with command blocks and the three different Types of command blocks along with the coveted debug stick so that you can change different block state which I’ve already been doing a little bit in this world because I was lamenting the fact that hanging signs don’t connect to fence posts and I really wanted them to Be able to connect on the side but frankly it doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense if they do because normally they’d connect to the side of a solid block these aren’t solid blocks even if you use the debug stick to adjust this it doesn’t exactly line up super well With the hanging sign model so yeah better left the way it is I think in the building blocks tab we also scrolled past these block of bamboo and block of stripped bamboo these are now made using nine bamboo the planks are a two by two Of bamboo the block of bamboo is a three by three and you can strip it using an ax to get this lighter variant that matches is color with the rest of the bamboo here but it’s directional like a log block is so we actually get multiple different aspects of this plus a really Cool top texture that kind of puts me in mind of TNT actually you see how TNT is really meant to look like 16 sticks of dynamite all bundled together with a big fuse well the block of bamboo kind of looks that way it also creates this really Pleasant green yellow red combo But I’ve been thinking of the block of bamboo as vegan TNT and honestly mixing stuff like this into the existing bamboo texture gives us a lot of different fun options to play with so I do really like having that around sort of looks like I’m playing pipe dream in Minecraft Right now doesn’t it with all of these connecting and disconnecting shout out to anyone in the comments who remembers pipe dreams so with that out of the way let’s move on to one of the other key features from this snapshot specifically in the functional blocks tab we will Find mob heads and we also now have a piglin head complete with floppy ears and I really want the ears to actually flop when I place them on my character and walk around they do yes I hadn’t even tested this before we started the episode but I’m so Happy that the ears flop oh I kind of wish they had a bit more physics when you jump up and down with them but just the fact that they flop around like that that’s so good I wonder if we could substitute these for gold armor in the Nether I wonder if piglens will be happier with us if they think that we’re an actual piglet nope turns out they’re not the biggest fans of that which makes sense really I mean you are wearing one of their severed heads the trick to getting a piglet in head is Just like the trick to getting any other mob heads that are available in vanilla you blow one up with a Charged Creeper which of course presents the interesting question of exactly how you get a Charged Creeper safely to the nether but presuming you can do that okay what’s The point of having the piglet head other than just Aesthetics and being able to put it around well it turns out mobheads have some extra functionality as of this snapshot and did you know that mobheads actually had functionality before this like if you wear a creeper Head it is less likely for creepers to notice you it’s kind of like sneaking or an invisibility potion it decreases mob’s awareness of whether or not the player is around if you’re wearing one of their heads at the time nobody bothers using this because honestly it’s not that great a protection as opposed To wearing you know a blast protection helmet but the fact is it is possible but now each of these heads has some compatibility with note blocks placing a mob head on top of a note block actually changes the note block to Output the the sound of that mob which is gonna make For some pretty good trolling opportunities when it comes to creeper sounds in particular what I’m curious about is what happens when you tune the note block at this point and from the looks of things tuning the note block does not seem to do a whole lot to the creeper sound in Particular but it’s fairly staticky playing a note block with a skeleton head above just creates a random skeleton noise and tuning that doesn’t seem to do anything either it doesn’t seem to make the noise a different pitch or make it louder or quieter or anything like that which I think presents some Interesting opportunities I would kind of love it if we could have a skeleton xylophone track play even though the xylophone is one of the other instruments you can get using note blocks it would also give us an interesting opportunity for baby zombie sound effects to be part of the zombie Note block offering each of these mobs does have different sound effects that could be interesting to play like the sound of any of them dying might be worthwhile as far as I can tell the piglet one just makes the angry piglet noise and it shows up in the subtitles As that sound effect not a sound effect being reproduced by a noteblock so even for players who use subtitles this could be a very confusing and otherwise pretty trolley thing to do now the same is of course going to be true of wither skeletons who make that trade trademark Rattling sound very different from the regular skeleton kind of more dry and breathy the dragon roar is absolutely deafening even when you’re fighting the dragon in vanilla so I expect that’s going to be a great way to annoy players just having this running on a 60 hertz Observer clock and it seems like player heads don’t currently do anything now some people were speculating that this could be a player damage sound or the old trademark oof sound that Steve used to make back in the early days of Minecraft but for now it just seems like Player heads are exempt from this particular lineup so what do you think of these changes do you think they could be improved do you think it’s just a nice level of trolley right now I am curious to hear your thoughts and perhaps you agree with me that the Chiseled bookshelf is now a much more complete feature and honestly might be what they hoped to do with it all along but anyway that’s gonna be it for this look at the latest snapshot thank you so much for watching this video my name has been pixel riffs don’t forget to leave a Like on this video If you enjoyed it subscribe if you want to see more On Wednesday November 16th, Mojang released the first major Java Edition snapshot for Minecraft 1.20… and kinda 1.19.3! The 1.20 update STILL doesn’t have a name, but Mojang have been refining the announced features and adding new ones based on community feedback. Chiseled Bookshelves now allow you to place and remove books in individual slots, which makes them way more intuitive and the redstone mechanics make sense! A new Piglin head has been added to the range of Mob heads, and mob heads now allow note blocks to create mob sounds when a mob head is placed on top! We also check out the new Block of Bamboo and Stripped block of Bamboo.
It’s also worth noting that these new features can only be accessed by enabling an ‘experimental features’ datapack when creating a new world.
