Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide hope you’re having a good day and today you might not quite be familiar with the location we’ve started off this episode in you might be wondering exactly where we are doesn’t like any of our normal places that we Hang out but as you can see we are actually quite close to the base if I take a quick fly up into the air here you’ll see that we are just in the planes biome over the hill from our farm settlement and this is where I plan to Start our next big project there are lots of other things we’re going to be doing in this series we’re going to be making more redstone farms and technical stuff we’re going to be farming slime and stuff relatively soon especially now we’ve got our iron farm set up and a Beacon so we can dig out a large area that’s definitely on the agenda but considering we now have access to a ton of resources I thought it was about time we got started on a big building project and not the kind of thing that we’re building over in our technical area over There in the kind of industrial district today we’re going to be working on a city build out here and as you may know I’m a big fan of building in this game building is one of the things that I like to occupy my time with in Minecraft Quite a lot and I think it’s gonna be a great place to start out here we’ve got lots of open space there’s a little bit of dynamic terrain around here we’ve got this naturally kind of like built up wall around here that we can probably convert into more of a feature and the Main reason I want to build over here is this incredible ravine we’re actually going to do even more with this ravine than it currently appears we’re going to expand it and make it a big feature of the town I plan to build here and I thought this would be a fun project to Take on with you guys because it’s it’s an idea I’ve had in my head for a while and it’s going to use a lot of the things that we’ve learned along the way things like how to get hold of certain resources some of the stuff we’ve been Farming is going to be used in here and it might also open the Gateway up to taking on other farming projects as like the next step in the city’s development so I’ve got a few resources piled up in chests here here and there anyway like If it’s still kind of a work in progress I’m putting together a build palette as we’ve done in some previous episodes and I went and got myself a lot of terracotta at first because I knew terracotta was something I wanted to do a lot with in this city build so we’re Gonna take some of this I match gonna fortune some lapis or to combine it with this cactus green because I’ve got a lot of lapis back at my farmhouse but I want that for enchanting and stuff like that if we do some of that in future so I’m actually gonna fortune a Bunch of this and combine it to make cyan dye with the cactus green well that was a lot more lapis than I expected to get so I guess we can combine all of this now we’re gonna get a lot of cyan die out of this we’re gonna get two Stacks because we’re putting two stacks of material in so that’s actually perfect we might keep the rest of the lapis in here just in case we need it but the cyan is going to be the ideal thing for dyeing some of this terracotta now where do I put the yeah let’s grab An oak log let’s start a new crafting table out here it’s always a good thing to start off with is having a crafting table somewhere central and we’re gonna be making cyan terracotta which is a fantastic block and before concrete came into the game was one of the only blocks That have this really flat gray texture you’ll remember from the episode about Badlands biomes if you watch that one that the whole point of terracotta is that it is the colour of terracotta plus whatever dye that you add to it which means that this is kind of the cyan tint Of orange which kind of turns it a little bit gray I’m gonna need to bring a bed out here as well because they’re zombies and stuff literally creeping up on me as I record this segment so yeah we’re gonna head out there we’re going to do a little bit of build pallet Assembly I’ve actually got a ton of stone and so forth from the beacon mine now so we should be able to put together a a good pallet with stuff like that as you can see there is a whole lot of regular stone in here we’ve also got a Ton of stone brick and I’ve just been combining all of the stone that I picked up in that beacon mine tons of cobblestone in here as well we’ve got plenty of gravel and the gravel will be converting into concrete in the long run we’ll also bring a bunch of andesite Over as well and I’m gonna start loading this stuff up into shelcha boxes so we can bring it over here and save ourselves a few trips back and forth to this storage room we are definitely going to need to farm some more awkward though so it’s lucky we have a bone farm Now because I’m gonna be needing a whole bunch of that to grow pretty quickly now from in here we’re gonna grab a few of these ink sacs and we’re going to actually make a bunch of gray dye I should have some extra bones saved up in Here we’ve got bone blocks that we can use here as well might actually bring those in case they turn into a worthwhile building material while we’re out here so let’s make some light great I will get about a yeah we’ll get a few stacks of that and then some Regular grade I will need in large quantities as well because with all these dies we’re going to be using some of the gravel that we’ve got in here and some of the sand that we’ve got in here to make concrete to make a single piece of concrete in Fact to make eight pieces of concrete which is the minimum amount you can make you need to put for sand at for gravel and a die in a crafting table in any combination it can be basically any way around you want and you get yourself eight concrete powder and the concrete Powder is actually going to be a really nice block to build with I’m gonna probably convert some of it into regular concrete as well but for now it’s going to become a staple of the type of thing we plan to build over here so having found a few oak trees and gathered the Available resources that I have we’re going to start putting together a bit of a build palette for this area we’re gonna need bits and pieces of everything for this I think and I kind of want to start showing you guys a house design that I’ve been working on in creative Mode now obviously as a survival world this isn’t the kind of place where I want to use creative mode like in the regular game play I’m not using it to build stuff in creative mode and fly around in place as many blocks as I want To but I have a separate world using the same seed that I’ve set up in creative mode to kind of test out builds here and there and I can show you guys a little bit more about what I’ve been working on but I’ll show you the build palette for This area first what we’re actually going to do is convert these logs into oak wood which is surrounded on all six faces by the bark texture so we don’t get any of those end textures unfortunately this is a four to three ratio which means for every four O’clock’s we put in we only get three oak wood back so we are losing a little bit of oak wood hence the need to farm a whole bunch more of it we’re going to do that with the dark oak and the acacia as well the birch logs we’re going to do This with but we’re also going to strip them so that means we do have to put them back down in the world and attack them with an X like so with the right click in order to strip the logs alternatively what you can do is just Place them where you want them to go in your build and strip them once they are in place that should be easy enough for you guys to do so the theme of this area is going to be sort of a medieval style town but it’s going to have a few Features that make it a little bit more modern like technology has progressed beyond medieval stuff and that is gonna be largely due to what we’re gonna do with that ravine over there I kind of want to make the ravine into a kind of source of power in a way A kind of like lava filled smoking kind of thing that people are mining out for precious resources and and kind of using it to generate like geothermal energy or something like that I’m a little bit hazy on the details right now but this is definitely the kind of stuff I want To be going with so we’re going to be building kind of cross beams on the houses like so out of a mixture of regular oak and dark oak woods to kind of give it a patchy feel almost like these houses have been cobbled together or perhaps that even like certain areas Of the material have been stained a little bit by the amount of industry that’s going on in this town like there’s going to be I’ll and grease everywhere and that kind of stuff and to that end we’re going to use a slightly more patchwork II combination of materials than I’m normally used to Building with in the construction of some of these Harrises we’re going to be kind of making everything a little bit more noisy than usual I like to do kind of nice clean walls in my builds but this time around we’re going to be making everything a little bit more Hectic we’re gonna use all kinds of great textures we’re going to put cyan terracotta and gray concrete in here where otherwise we would be using other types of stone textures I kind of feel like maybe we will keep cobblestone out of this because cobblestone could be Used for the roads and stuff like that but I think yeah we’re going to be using a a bit of a patchwork of stuff the first floors of these houses are actually going to appear quite small from the outside but what I want to do is dig out the floor behind these so That if you came through the wall here if there was a door then you’d actually step down into the house and you’d find it was a lot more spacious in a kind of sub-basement kind of way now we’ll head up here and we’ll add a little bit of The outside to these up here and this is going to resemble the windows that we have in our kind of more medieval style builds over there but what I’m gonna do with these is swap out some of this light will for some gray and light gray Wall here and there just to make it feel once again like the air is a little bit less pure here and the materials in these walls have kind of been tainted a little bit by smoke and industry in the upper sections of this house I might Actually add in the birch wood here so that it gives more of a kind of wooden feel to the tops of the houses like so and yeah I don’t know I think I think I find that quite quite appealing we need to put some glass in here as well I was Thinking about using some black or gray stained glass for this down the outside of this we’re going to make a sort of drainpipe out of dark oak wood and if we had a cobblestone wall I would put that at the bottom right now but we’re going To save that for later I’m also going to use some hoppers and some other materials in this build mainly because I just like the color of the metal you don’t see this in much else in Minecraft like the iron trapdoors and stuff like that are all very light same with the Iron blocks the iron ingots themselves have that kind of light gray color whereas when you make hoppers they have this more industrial stained dark grey kind of color more similar to this cyan terracotta and that’s kind of what I want to have as a running theme throughout this area but the hopper can Go up here on top of this drainpipe as though it’s kind of collecting water from the roof and the output of the hopper kind of attaches to that fence now we’re not going to be able to use that hopper to collect anything is not really gonna be part of a redstone Contraption or anything like that but it is going to look like a really nice part of this build I want to use the dark prismarine to create supporting pillar structures but we’re going to swap those around with the dark oak wood there as well just to kind of give this a little Bit more of a kind of variant in texture here let’s maybe use two there and then just one dark prison marine this time and swap over like so I think that’s looking pretty good I want to run the acacia wood like so along the top of the wall here to kind Of frame out each section and we’re gonna frame out some windows on the upper floors with prismarine and stone brick just kind of looking out over the town a little bit more I think this is coming together pretty well I think this is pretty close to what I built in Creative as well so let me hop into my creative world and I’ll show you what I’ve been working on here we are in a creative mode copy of my Minecraft Survival Guide world when you’ll notice there is no kind of farm and stuff over here this is just the same seed Reproduced but with creative mode enabled and over here you’ll see what I’ve been working on over in the survival world but a little bit more developed because I drafted this a little bit in creative and I think we’ve actually nailed it goes pretty faithful to what I was Working on there before obviously I haven’t done it much of the top area of that because that’s the stuff that’s a little bit awkward to build in survival so it’s the kind of thing that you might want to hop into creative mode and draft a couple of things before you get it Right and I’ve been working a little bit on path designs as well basically because at the the energy of this area I kind of want it to seem like it’s all coming from a ravine and lava and kind of geothermal energy I wanted to put these magma blocks in the ground even Though those pose a bit of a hazard if you’re walking around in survival I think it’d be kind of nice to have them as a decorative block around here to inject a little bit of color and to contrast with some of the cooler colors that we’ve got in this the kind of dark Grays and the light grays and the prismarine kind of cyan like deep blues and greens kind of thing going on and I think it’s gonna be fun to have these kind of emerging as cracks in the ground almost like the area is volcanic but the Rest of the time we’re going to use some path blocks and stuff some slabs here and there maybe even a little bit of mycelium and this is dead coral I was kind of trying that out we will get to coral in a future episode because I Haven’t found a reef yet but I plan to and yeah the the walls here are angled in a nice kind of way and I feel like this could either be like one large house like almost like a Civic building of some kind or a succession of houses Like a series of Harris’s and maybe this is the back end of them and each one of these or maybe two sections at a time are a single house so you could maybe have like a series of smaller houses kind of set up in rows like this like a Terrace and that would be the start of the kind of housing residential area of this whole place but I think this is a pretty solid design and from close up at least it might look a little bit like a patchwork quilt to you there’s just so much texture going on so many different Colors and variations and stuff but from a distance you’ll find that stuff tends to blend together a little bit and once you get a bunch of buildings built like this in an area it starts to take on a feeling or a vibe more if you’re looking At it from a distance and as all of those textures and stuff blend together it sort of starts to take on its own unique texture rather than relying on the individual textures of the blocks this is how I tend to use creative mode when it comes to my survival worlds is Never use creative mode in the world itself but hop out into a separate world either a flat world or a cop of the besieged you’re using or even just the same biome if you can find it in a different world seat and just kind of try out little stuff like this try Combinations of materials in odd little ways and more often than not you will surprise yourself with what you can build especially when you don’t have the restrictions of survival then of course it’s just a matter of getting up close to the build as close as you need to be Taking screenshots from different angles memorizing sections of it if you need to and putting together a build that you are happy with being able to recreate in survival and as you can see I’ve kind of done that with some of these sections here like I’ve copied the wool and the Birch around here oh gosh it’s raining the hell well since we’re in a creative world we can do something about that let’s set the weather to clear and carry on yes so there we go we can we can practice stuff like putting the birch around here and the trapdoors in place These are two separate trapdoors on top of each other and I think this actually looks really nice with the spruce trapdoor on the top and then the oak one on the front you can even flip some of those down to give that like a kind of window overhang and a shutter feel while Still keeping the whole thing in one place we’ve got a case year trap doors over here serving as kind of slitted windows instead of these large flat glass windows which along the top of the build here would look like they were letting too much light in or letting too Many people see into the building from the outside so these acacia ones kind of give more of a sense of privacy while still letting light through into the build and letting like the air feel like it’s traveling through here so now I’ve shown you this and now I’ve taken a few Screenshots it’s time to go and actually build this in the survival world I’ll need to gather a few more resources because I didn’t bring any magma blocks over here with me we are short on a couple of things I’ve actually also got Pistons behind each of these sections Here just for that kind of black-bordered texture that Pistons have and that seems like a bit of a waste of redstone components in the same way that it’s a bit of a waste to put a hopper up here but I just think it adds a little something to the build that you’re not Expecting which is part of the point of some of this stuff so enough talk let’s go and build this so here we are back in our survival guide’ world and I’ve started framing out this house I’ve actually moved it several blocks away from all of the chests because I Realized that moving these walls back was gonna mean that I had to either move the chests or move the house and moving the house is easier to the chests have like hundreds if not thousands of items in them at this point but yeah I’ve just started framing this whole Thing out and as you can see like it’s it’s very easy if you built this in creative mode beforehand to just kind of build it from the ground up especially if you’ve got screenshots you don’t need to worry too much about the trial and error that goes into messing with a Building survival especially when I’m working with the style that’s as patchwork as this I’m using just like just in this screen right here there are probably like twelve or thirteen fourteen different types of block and so it is a pain to navigate around your inventory with all of that so you can Take things one step at a time if you like you can just do the bottom floor first with all of the stone types or you can work on the windows and stuff first and then do the bottom floor later it’s really up to you it just depends how you Prefer to manage your inventory personally I get a little bit frustrated when my inventory is like this but it’s one of the only ways I can really work it’s just kind of crammed everything into my inventory and make sure I’ve got all of the blocks up here so I’m not Having to refer to chests every now and again to get all the stuff that I need back but you can always bring schalke boxes up with you as well if you’ve got some shelcha boxes handy so it might actually be better if I do that and just Keep all of the stone types in one type of box keep all of the wool and wood and other stuff in a different box and just work from those two alternating between them when I need them and after a little bit of time and effort this thing has come together or At least the facade of it has of course we don’t really have much around the back here at all and I’m not certain quite how I want to develop this whether I want to continue it going round and turn it into like a large round building Or if I want to separate that into a series of townhouses like I said before but I really like the way this has come together and I’ve got a path here already I figured we would start the path kind of going along the outsides of this and we could almost make this like A narrow pathway between two houses this could almost be like an alleyway of sorts even though I’m not entirely sure if it was an alleyway quite what these windows would be overlooking and it’s interesting to think about stuff like that in terms of building your city you know If you’ve got windows that are this size what are they looking out over what can you see from up there and it might be worth kind of scaling some of the builds around here to kind of to take that into account to plan stuff for what what you Can see exactly out of those windows but anyway I think I’ve what I want to do is do a little bit more work here on camera when we’re going to plan out where some of these kind of volcanic riff type things are going to go I think Maybe cuz the the path is sort of diverging here is what I’ve decided we’ve got a kind of natural fork in the road here and what I maybe want to do is have the fork in the road almost be something out of necessity like one of These kind of magma things has come to the surface about here and I want to make this almost kind of like like a vein structure a branching structure like a tree something that kind of splits off into various different pathways and stuff like that so maybe We’ll have one that comes out this way like so and maybe we’ll kind of have it branch off that way instead and just have it finished there something like that feels good I think and we could even inset this into the ground if we wanted to and just have the the the Magma blocks kind of one step down and then and then terraform the outside of it around that looks like we’re gonna have to drop into bed here for a second no I don’t if I like that so much I kind of like being able to see it as you walk Around and right here if we’re just walking around if there are full blocks here you really can’t see the magma blocks at all I want them to be on the surface I think that’s probably a good idea as for the mycelium that I wanted to incorporate into this path I didn’t have A great deal of it that I brought back from the mushroom island so either I can go over to the mushroom island and still touch a whole bunch more of it or I could do what I’ve already done and set up a square of it over here that’s going To spread onto this dirt now I’m still yeah I’m still waiting for some of it to spread from these corner blocks I figure what I would do is set up a complete 8×8 square that’s 64 blocks a full stack of dirt there in the middle and then keep These corner blocks but silk touch everything in the middle that way I just need to replace the dirt every time and this is just a kind of a fairly straightforward mycelium farm it would also probably be a good idea to put torches on here because I have a feeling Mycelium is like grass and it will only spread if there’s adequate light nearby but if I want to add a little purple touch ways to the path especially where these kind of magma events are coming up to the surface then I figured I may as well get a little bit more mycelium Going and you might be wondering hey why are you building in a city with stuff that you can’t really walk on but you can walk on it if you’re holding shift or wearing a pair of Rost Walker boots so either I want to incorporate some frost Walker boots into My armor set or I can probably just shift and crouch and walk over them very very slowly so they don’t have to mess it with my feet all that much or alternatively I just don’t walk on top of these at all problem solved right around the outside We’re gonna put a few more dots of the cyan terracotta and probably some black concrete powder as well which I want to use sparingly because we don’t have a permanent squid farm yet I’ve basically just been killing squids in the river any chance I get but for the most part Black ink is going to be a little bit you know rare it’s gonna be thin on the ground until we have a proper ink farm for it so I think yet we’ll we’ll do our best to contain my excitement for how good black concrete looks next to this Stuff but doesn’t that just look like a block of ash or something like that it really does look quite good so I’m kind of keen on putting some of this around where I can afford to there we go I think that’s looking pretty cool it’s certainly adding something and it’s a Really cool contrast with all of the colder temperature colors that we’ve got in here give or take those acacia trap doors which are very much like our highlights do pop out of this build the rest of this all feels very cool in terms of color temperature so I think Yeah having these little magma streams coming in here and there will actually make a really nice touch to this area and we’ll see how we can incorporate that into the larger plan for what I’ve got going on here up here with the ravine I do want to Start surrounding a bits and pieces of that with some more of the the gray concrete and the black concrete powder and make it feel very kind of volcanic in nature but we’re not going to worry too much about that today I think that’s something I’ll probably need to do a Little bit more of in the next few episodes because we’ve got the opportunity to expand this further and really make it a feature of this place and I think while it is kind of cool right now it feels a little bit tucked away you have to go over the top of the Hill to see it and yet I feel like it could really carve through more of this land scope so we’re probably going to end up using a bit of TNT or a bit of explosive stuff to blast out a little bit more of an area of this ravine and Make it accessible and then we’ll surround it with cool machines and stuff like that like some stuff that will construct just to look really good in the centre of this town and I looking forward to sharing more building kind of stuff with you guys I feel like We’ve been working a lot on our industrial area and working on Redstone farms and for some people that’s your jam but in my case like I said I really do love building and playing around with stuff like this so hopefully you guys will enjoy a few building themed Episodes here and there we’ve not gonna obviously we’ve not given up on the Redstone kind of contraptions and the technical projects we’re gonna be going to make a slime farm and that kind of stuff in the near future so look out for that but in the meantime that’s gonna be It for this episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide thank you so much for watching my name has been pixel rifts don’t
