Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of coding with scott and today we are going to be taking our first steps into creating our very own minecraft mods using fabric fabric is a very similar tool to forge if you’ve ever heard of that in creating minecraft mods but they’re each a bit different Fabric is very much smaller it’s more it claims to be more lightweight more modular and is very easy to get started with and you can do a lot of things in it but it’s also harder to do more of the advanced things so think things if you want to Add things to the game like new items a few new entities things like that you would want to go with fabric these are easy to load on the player end but if you’re wanting to do whole systems like something like i don’t know if you’ve heard of the vault mod pack where they Have massive missiles massive energy generators things like that you would probably want to do with forge if you truly want to change the base game but fabric is very lightweight and very easy to learn so we’re going to start today by getting it up and running and the first thing You want to do is get an integrated development environment and the ide we’re going to be using today is called intelligent and it’s very easy to use it’s with java and the best part is it’s free so you’re going to type intellij into your search bar and you’re Going to find it right here now some parts are going to say that you have to pay for it if you go to download but that is not the case the community version is all you will need and you can just download that here simple easy You don’t need to pay for this ultimate version you don’t need any of these extra tools that that provides for pretty much anything you would do out of an enterprise so the next thing we need is a java jdk and what that stands for is a java development kit And you’re just going to type that in again and you’re going to get the latest version you can download it for your operating system right here it’s as easy as that download it run it and that’s going to install both the java development kit and the java runtime environment which Is actually needed to run minecraft so you probably already have that installed but downloading this will update both your jdk which will allow you to code in java and your java runtime environment which allows you to run things in java so that’s two out of the three things we Need the third thing is actually the fabric api itself so we can’t start coding with fabric uns until we actually have the base code for it so we’re going to type in fabric example mod and go there and they have a nice github where you can download the example mod Now the example mod doesn’t have any real examples in it it doesn’t have any items entities any things like that that you would actually play with in a mod this is just what you download to get started coding it has all of your methods all of your libraries built in Everything you’re going to need in order to start coding in minecraft so we’re going to down hit this code button over here and we’re going to hit download zip and then we’re just going to go to our downloads folder and it’s right here so we’re going to Right click and we’re gonna hit i have 7-zip you can go to view compressed folders up here and hit extract all it doesn’t really matter i like 7-zip as a free program to download and we’re just going to extract it to its own folder and then i’m going to drag it to a Separate folder i’m going to go into my um minecraft mods folder and i’m going to just make a youtube folder and i’m going to go from downloads and i’m just going to drag it into there so i’m going to drag it there and drag it into my minecraft mods and then into youtube And it’s as simple as that so we just have it there and now we’re going to open up intellij so i’m just going to type idea into my search bar and hit it up like that and it’ll load up and it might load up to a different Project but what you’re going to want to do you might have a different screen i’m going to hit file and then i’m going to hit open this button here and then you’re going to want to find where your project is where that example mod is so mine is in Minecraft mods youtube and it’s right here now what you’re going to want to do is you’re going to want to get build.gradle click on that and click ok and then you’re going to click open as project you’re going to trust that project and i’m going to just open it in this Window since i don’t need that other window wonderful now it’s going to take a second for this here to build you’re going to get a few messages over here as it goes through and builds your project what that means is it’s taking the code that’s in here and allowing it you to Use it and allowing you to run it and it has to do a little bit before that can actually happen so it’s going to take a bit of time especially if this is your first time doing it if it’s your second or third it’s going To take a bit shorter and then as you do more and more it’ll take less and less time so i’m just going to cut forward until it’s done and that didn’t take long at all 35 seconds the first time it took eight minutes for me so you’re just going to Have to be patient and basically just wait you’ll see here build successful in 33 seconds and hopefully as long as you did everything right in the video this is what you will get and now we’re actually going to run minecraft but we’re not going to run it From a hotbar or from an app we’re going to run it from this code so we’re going to click gradle over here we’re going to drop down tasks drop down i believe ide nope fabric we’re going to drop down fabric and then we’re going to double click on run client Now what this is going to do is it’s going to open up a version of minecraft for us to use very easy very simple it’s going to load up once you see these green and the blue that pretty much means you’re ready to go and it’s going To launch in a second you don’t need to worry about this error here at all it’s going to load up and you can see this is the latest version of minecraft 1.18.2 and this came out only a few hours ago so they got it updated incredibly quickly And you’re never going to have to worry about waiting for an update so as you can see this is our own minecraft world that we have here i’m just going to call it test world and this is what we have we’re able to launch minecraft from our code so What i’m going to do from here on out is i work on fiverr a freelance marketplace you can find my link in my youtube bio and i work as someone who makes minecraft mods for people so people come to me and pay me to make minecraft mods So what this youtube channel is going to be about is basically just showcasing um what i do for that and how to do it so i actually have a really big order going on right now with a customer and he’s agreed to let me showcase the whole mod Development process and i’m going to be walking you through tutorials of fabric where i’m going to be making custom items custom mobs even things to do with the player and i’ll all be explained in a later episode but i’m going to teach basically every step of that and there’s a lot of great Tutorials on the internet about how to learn fabric how to learn minecraft modding but i’m really going to go in depth i’m going to touch on the surface like most of those tutorials do but there’s not a lot of tutorials that will go more in depth to Do a lot more advanced things so that’s what i’m going to be focusing on after i teach you the basics so i hope you guys are excited for that i hope you guys enjoyed the video if you have any questions please let me know and until next time have a great day Video Information

Welcome to the first of many tutorials about coding your very own Minecraft Mods! Today we will be getting started using Fabric and IntelliJ! IntelliJ is our Integrated Development Environment where we write our code, this IDE allows for smooth coding and removes a lot of the tedious work! Fabric is an API that allows us to modify the Minecraft Code to add our own stuff to the game!
